This is probably one of the best books written for single or divorced women...ever. Michelle gives advice that makes a light bulb literally click in your thoughts about relationships with men. It was like, "Oh...ohhhhh, [click]...wow, that makes sense". I think it's better than "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus"..hands down for single/divorced women. No competition here. She uses her own experiences and then slowly integrates the biblical advice from Proverbs (one of the best guides for women in the NKJ). She doesn't tell you to be withdrawn or to use biblical quotes to force any situation into a "win win". She advises women to get a healthy mentality towards dating, to adopt a healthy lifestyle while waiting for the best man in her life and why it's important to wait for a man in your life that understands the importance of treating you like a lady or a "child of God"...which I interpret as being respectful of you as a person on all levels (very important and wise for women to learn these days). She explains why you should never lower your moral standards and the repercussions of these choices most all women feel pressured to make in order to keep a man interested (absolutely insightful...explained better by her than anyone I've ever read). If you feel challenged by today's dating schematics, then you really need to read this book ASAP. It totally removed stress from my thoughts on dating and helped me to put total trust in God to take care of the dating arena for me. Awesome, powerful book!

The first time I read this book.. I was just reading.. then.. a friend of mine had it and I re-read it.. and this time.. it was like being in class.. I could NOT get enough.. McKinney Hammond's writing is so upfront.. it is really like sitting in the living room with your aunts and your girlfriends and them giving it to you straight.. Everything my mother ever told me about dating.. was reaffirmed in this book.. Its a must-read for any woman.. whether she claims to be Christian or not.. even though this references the Bible.. the advice given here translates past Christianity.. it is for any girl out here dating.. It basically is allowing you to get to know the "man's" place and "woman's" place from courtship and beyond.. it's not too preachy and is definitely spicy!

The reason I rate it a 3 is because although the message is good there is some fault to it. Please be aware that you can pray for a husband and all that but that does not mean he will show up on your door step tomorrow or that you will run in to him the next day you said your prayer or that he will have every exact quality that you have ever wanted. God does not work that way.... This is a good guide of how a woman should be and how to act but don't let it be you bible on dating and men. Let God lead you!!!

I loved this book!! The principles were great and really emphasized the self-worth of a woman as well as the importance of valuing yourself above all else when seeking a romantic relationship. I have to say just how refreshing it was to come across something like this, especially in this time and age where the rules on finding love and keeping it are all up in the air. I liked that she rooted her principles in biblical scripture and brought it all back home to what mattered most: what God ordained and His plan. The author's wit as well as sassy, humorous voice made this a great read, definitely a book I would recommend. My mother gave this to me and I am so glad she did!

I probably learned a lot from this book when I first read it in high school. I don't disagree with several of the major points: get a life and don't come off as desperate, basically. BUT the content in this book is scattered and a bit shallow and there are so many half formed metaphors that are hard to follow. Overall I couldn't wait to finish it and be done.

This book so far would be great for any single woman of today to read. So often women chase men around for their affections, when it is the MAN's job to the chasing. The book explores gender roles in the realm of dating.

This is a great read and intelligent reminder to be Godly woman in finding the right and Godly man. It's no non-sense book, yet Christian women tend to forget how we should seek the man God intend for us to have. I like this book as it quotes Scriptures and also explains further and citing examples. Each chapter has prayer and it's wonderful. You can read this fast as you learn along the way, however I suggest to read it slow and reflect. At the end of the book there's a study guide to deepen your relationship with God and as well as knowing who you are and what you looking and wanting in a Godly man.

Her Gifts & Purpose are superbly presented in every work she's written and every show and event she's done. I went to one of her speaking/book signing events and hearing her speaking voice made all of her books seem Audible! This book is mainly for single woman, but I still found so many things in this book to be a reminder of what kind of woman God wants every woman to be. The author goes through 18 key principles and backs up what she talks about with scripture. A study guide is included in the back of the book that helps the reader delve deeper in each chapter. I enjoyed the author's examples, and she had a way of explaining the principles which really helped me better grasp the concepts. I would definitely pick up another book by Michelle McKinney Hammond!

I love anything by Michelle McKinney Hammond. She's so wise and speaks biblical truth into you the entire book, but she does so in a way that's engaging, sassy, witty, and fun. I really enjoy reading her books because afterwards, I feel so much better equipped to handle life - and also encouraged.

The book:
Women in their desperation to have someone in their lives, have forfeited their power and have become frustrated victims in affairs of the heart. Rules are made to maintain order from relationship to flow of traffic, the principle remains the same. Stay in order and things will move smoothly, get out of order and you will run smack-dab into difficulty.
The principle woman as she calls her, is a woman of spiritual principle, not only does she have a learned knowledge of who she is and how she should be treated, she also has an understanding. She knows she is a valuable jewel. She won’t settle for less than God’s best for her. she’s a lady at all times………..

Valuable Quotes:
• You are better off with a man who loved you more than you love him.
• Principle women know there’s no such thing as falling in love.
• If a man isn’t submitted to God, he will not have the capacity to love you the way you want to be loved.
• It’s smart to keep your feelings and emotions to yourself until you have a clear read on his love for you.
• Your love should be expensive like pearl of great price. The man who truly loves you will be willing to pay the price for you, like a merchant
• A principle woman who minds her own business and has a life doesn’t usually trip over the weed.
• She watches her husband’s back with prayer and know when to quietly diffuse the mistakes of her husband without making it painful and embarrassing for him.
• Do not make up excuses for a man, and do not nag or ask questions. A man will do exactly what he wants to do. And when he wants something bad enough, he will do whatever he has to do to get it.

My Opinion: The book places emphasizes on:
• Your relationship with God
• Order and Rules using God’s manual (The Holy Bible) as a guide
• Loving yourself and being whole
• Living life to the fullest
• The art of dressing

This book looks familiar; unsure if it is stashed in a box from my library before the move last year or simply read this back in 2007/08 (the former cover). However, I am lead to read it now. So far, I am reading quite quickly though the book--conversational if you like these type of reads as if she is talking to you 'honey child' or 'sistah girlfriend' style. Usually I loved her reads in the past, but hope to have a great outcome with this one in the next couple of days...

Some parts I sadly found myself skimming thru to complete; however when I got to principle #15, I carefully read this chapter. Thereafter, I enjoyed the other principles that followed. (I normally love this writer since a dear friend I met online has introduced me to her book "Men are like Buses".)

"God knows where you are and where your man is. Pray and ask Him to order your steps so that you meet at His ordained time." I recall in the past God asked me to do this very thing, pray for my husband to come in future tense, but sadly after a couple years of meeting Mr. not, I stopped. She also states 'leave every cute men where you found him unless he approaches you.' Not sure if men do not approach women anymore or we are unapproachable, but I haven't had a mate in over 10 yrs and wondering what is going on. Yet I know I no longer want to date unless he is my mate. She also advises to check references with the Holy Spirit before getting excited since we tend to go after someone based on outer appearance and not knowing their true intentions or heart.

Ignore the world's rules. (This was a bite to chew.)

Leisure read 2015
Overall it was a decent read, and has a study guide which I will pass since I have 20 books to read in a few days.

A truly divine spiritual leader

I chose this rating, because she is a woman who uses the bible to reinforce Godly living without manipulating the Word of God. Her ministry has blessed me in ways more than one! She teaches you those things that our mothers should have taught, what institutions can't teach, and what most influential people will not teach. Her thoughts and insight on paper transformed into the spiritual mentorship that I greatly needed as a young woman desiring to live for Christ; a woman who desires to be the epitome of the proverbs 31 woman. Enlighten yourselves ladies!

a dear family friend-turned-sister gave it to me before I set for an "adventure" here in Africa.. maybe I wasn't looking closely on the bookshelves before, 'cause if I did, I should have finished this book already! but wt's the rush.. I was advised not to read it at one sitting..rather, take time on it..ponder on each chapter as I go thru.. and that's what I've been doin'.. and with each passing day, the picture gets more and more clear to me.. about my worth as a woman..

I'd like to give credit to Ate Joy for giving me this book.. this is definitely one of my favorites..:)

This book is full of soulful, Southern advice on dating and relationships. I love the author's voice as she explains each idea with Bible stories and personal examples. I think the "secrets" are not the same as the chapter titles which is kind of what the author implies but they are in the book. The intended audience is the modern American woman who is still single because of dating mishaps. As a married woman I was still able to benefit simply because I experienced dating mishaps that I wasn't able to resolve in my head before marrying and this book helped with that resolution process.

As usual Michelle cuts to the core of the very matters women think about with honesty and plain-speaking and she backs it all up with scriptural references that you can study so you may know for yourself. She brings up a great deal of valid points a lot of women haven't considered as well. A great read for any woman who wants to be married.
