I’ve been totally loving Paul Bellow’s Tower of Gates series. It’s provided just what I look for in LitRPG, a logical reason for the characters to be immersed into a gaming world, action that’s both believable and yet gives a real “RPG feeling” (something I’m abundantly qualified to opine on as I’ve been a gamer since the days of D&D’s height and still do MMORPGs) and, yes, provides stories that are well written and fun to read. And now we get to the fourth book in the series, Brute: A LitRPG Novel. This one is a bit of a departure from the preceding books as it’s all about what happens to Josh, the one character in the original trio who was mostly absent from the other books. Now I didn’t particularly like Josh in the prior books, but I have to admit that - to my surprise - I totally enjoyed his story here. And that is a sign of great writing. This is, quite simply, a fun read. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
