Marked hit me hard, slayed me, broke me, made me smile, broke me again and hit me on a level I never thought that it would but in the end I was glued back together again. This isn’t what I usually read in a book but it seems what usually doesn’t work for me is beginning to work in my favour.
I would love to tell you each and every single tiny detail of this book but it would be crying shame as this is a book that you need to experience without being influenced by my awesome review.
The Characters & Chemistry.
Kate has been a widower for nearly three years, her only shining light is her son Owen otherwise she is faking everything to everyone. I really liked Kate not only because we share the same name. She tries to be strong but it doesn’t always work. Kate felt like a kindred spirit to me.
Liam a tattooist at Sailor’s Grave, and he has carried a torch for Kate. Liam is one of the best Hero’s I have read this year. He is patient, kind, gentle, and hot as f-c-u-k and well I wouldn’t kick him out. He did everything right even taking the blame.
This is a slow burn romance, it’s a journey from friends to being more and then becoming lovers. They kiss at about the 45% mark maybe. They finally get to knock boots at 70% but that is okay for me. I really enjoyed the build-up.
There were some secondary characters but a lot of them were from her other series. My favourite secondary character is Margot, Liam’s Mama.
The Writing, Plot & Pace.
I loved the writing style it captivated me from the beginning especially how the author manages to evoke specific emotions, it flows well, the emotional balance is there. I can only repeat that the story of Kate’s journey overcoming her grief gutted me every single time.
The love that we experience she had with her husband there are flashbacks and they are bittersweet. Kate had to come to terms with it being alright to move on and there were a lot of things that she needed to work through and that only really happened to the end.
Once or twice I felt as if Liam was somewhat in the shadows but if that was to be rectified I wouldn’t know how. But he was there for her every step of the way. He is the ultimate Hero. He gets through to Kate on every level.
It is rare but the book made me cry it was quite embarrassing while I was on the train/tram and trying to keep my sniffles to a minimum.
The pace of the book was spot on.
The Verdict.
This is a fantastic start to a brand new series. It has heart, it is grit, it has good and bad times and I’m so glad I took a chance on this author. I am intrigued by the other characters of the Sailor’s Grave tattoo parlour. I want to so very badly read Jess’s story.
Move it to the top of your to be read shelf stat.

I really enjoyed this book. A beautifully written story of love after loss, a young mother and widow struggling to move on, and the sexy, tattooed biker who brings her back to life. It’s sweet and sexy with lots of gorgeously swoony moments, and a whole lot of feels, and I loved it.
This book is the first in the Sailor’s Grave series, which is a spin off from the Savage Disciples series. A lot of the characters in this book have already been introduced, but this book can easily standalone. This is my first book by this author, and I certainly never felt lost or like I was missing huge chunks of information. She does a good job at providing appropriate backstory, and I’m actually now really intrigued to read more about these characters and how they all came together.
Kate’s world came crashing down around her when she lost her husband in a tragic accident, leaving her alone to raise their then-three-year-old son, Owen. For three years she has battled to keep on going. She puts on a brave face to the outside world, fake smiling and doing what she needs to in order to get by, and to raise her son, but on the inside she feels like she died along with her husband, and she has no idea how to pull herself out of her grief and depression. She has support from her late husband’s younger brother, and the MC that he is a part of have adopted her into their family, so she’s not alone, but she’s definitely not living.
Sailor’s Grave is a tattoo studio owned by the Disciples MC. Liam is one of the artists working there, and though he isn’t a member of the MC, he is included in their extended family, so he knows Kate, he knows her story, and though he is attracted to her, he knows he has to keep his distance. But his frequent trips to the bakery where Kate works remain the highlight of his day, and when she comes in to the studio looking for a significant, multi-session piece, she is put into Liam’s hands - literally.
Kate is attracted to Liam, but she has no idea what to do with it. She still misses her husband, and is in no way ready to move forward, but there’s something about the gentle man that draws her in. And when he proves over and over what a great guy he is, helping her and her son, and working hard to put a smile on her face, their feelings are strengthened and a tentative friendship develops… with the door open for more.
It’s a difficult road for Liam and Kate. They want each other, their feelings about that are clear, and they certainly act on it. But Kate’s grief is very much the third and unwelcome member of the relationship that they are trying to build together. Liam is absolutely incredible – supportive, understanding and patient, doing whatever he can to help his girl (and his time with little Owen is just gorgeous), but it’s very much something that she needs to deal with, and her doing just that is an important part of her journey as she has to learn how to say goodbye and claim the future that she wants.
This book is well-paced, heartfelt and written with lots of emotion. It's a wonderfully realistic story about the all-consuming nature of grief and the battle to overcome it, but it's written with understanding and a feeling of hope. There’s a heavy emphasis on the emotional drama, but the story never gets angsty or overwhelming with it. There are sweet and funny moments, cute times with little Owen, fun flirting from Liam and of course there’s a whole lot of sexy time as well as a beautifully swoony love story. I enjoyed the cast of side characters, the relationships with the MC were gorgeous to read about, and I loved Liam’s family and the dynamics there.
I enjoyed my first read by this author, and I’m definitely looking forward to checking out more of her work.

I really liked this book and connected to both main charters very easily. This book has some very sad parts, dealing with the h's deceased husband at times was really hard to read because he was such a great husband and father. But having said that the H was just as great and so very patient with the entire situation. Though some of this subject is heavy this book was a very easy fast read. I got into this book very easily and didn't want to put it down.

Read till it was done. Very touching and wonderful read. Kind of picked this on a whim because it had to do with tattoos. I loved it. Kate’s journey was so sad yet realistic and heart breaking. It dragged some, but it needed to, to be real. You just don’t get over the love of your life in an instant.
Liam, wow, he was so wonderful, so patient, talented, and loving.

The feels are real in this one. Not that I wasn’t prepared for them, I mean the description tells you pretty much all that you need to know, but you never know exactly how they will hit you and the feels in this one, along with meeting some pretty amazing characters and wanting to get to know them better made it really hard to put this one down and had me wanting to spend more time with them even after I read the last words to their story.
I absolutely adored Liam. Talk about book boyfriend all the way. He’s sweet, charming, considerate, patient and tenacious. And though he doesn’t fall into the alpha AF category, he still got that alpha vibe when it comes to taking care of those he calls his own.
I loved Kate. My heart hurt for her and all that she had and was going through, but I loved her strength and how hard she loved, even when it hurt her. Her journey was a long one with a lot of ups and downs, but to watch as she worked through it all and coming out stronger for it was a absolutely satisfying.
Liam and Kate’s journey to their HEA is all kinds of slow burn goodness as they both work through what it means to have loved, lost and to find love again. It’s was a rough one, but to watch Liam and Kate connect and become more was totally worth it. They had a sort of flow when they were together that had me rooting for them from the very beginning.
This is my first Drew Elyse book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing was engaging, the pacing was good and the dual 1st person POV was well done. This is a spin-off of her Savage Disciples MC series, which I didn’t know before diving in, but I never felt as if I was missing out on anything, though I do hope to find time to read that series in the future *Glances at the TBR pile and sighs*. I loved the supporting cast of characters and I loved what they brought to the table as Liam and Kate worked things out. My fav’s are Conor, Margot and Owen ~ though no one should be surprised that they are ~ but I loved Jess, Avery and Daz as well and am definitely looking forward to getting my hands on Jess’s book next!

This is the first book in the newest series by Drew Elyse. This is somewhat of a spin off from her MC series because the characters do appear in this series as well.
This book starts off hitting you with all the feels and ends the same way. This book in my opinion is a bit different because its more emotional and some of it is more realistic in my opinion.
I loved watching Kate and Liam fall apart and seeing the way that liam was with joel melted me.
I cannot wait to see what lies ahead in this series.

Marked hit me right in the feels! Kate's husband died tragically in a car accident. Several years have past and Kate is pretending she is 'moving on'. She loves her son and will do everything she can to keep him happy. Liam watched his mom struggle after his dad died and knows all too well what Kate is going through. He wants to help her, but how do you help someone who is so closed off?
I loved Liam. He had feelings for Kate, but knew exactly what she was going through. The guilt, the loss...all of it was what he watched his mom go through. He was the perfect guy for her. Sometimes, I find widow stories difficult; if you loved someone, moving on feels like betrayal and I feel that the new person in the relationship is always competing with a ghost, but if you move on too quickly, then you question if they really loved them at all. Its a fine line to walk. Kate's survivor's guilt was heartbreaking. She felt that she shouldn't ever love again, that doing so would be a betrayal. She really loved Joel (her husband) and they had been together since high school. As if the death of her husband wasn't tragic enough, Kate didn't have a great childhood either. She clung to Joel because they created a family neither had ever had. Appropriately, this was a slower burn since Kate has such love and devotion to her late husband.
Liam had a great family and I thought that was wonderful to read. He was close to his mom and his siblings. Its not often you get functional families in romance. I loved that he was a tattoo artist as well. He embraced and encouraged artistic talent. While my heart went out to Kate and her struggle, I adored Liam and he is what made this book for me! Marked is full of deep, real emotions and will have you tearing up frequently, but its a beautiful ride!

Well shit on a stick I am in love - I am head over heels in love with Drew Elyse and I want to have all her shiny book babies. I need more of her in my life and I need them now. Seriously, Marked crushed me in all ways possible. This book hit me like a truck; I cried, I laughed, I swooned, this book really brought so many amazing things together in one blend of just fucking amazeballs of emotions. I loved it.
The first thing that I absolutely loved about this novel was that the writing style really intrigued me. Right at the jump my emotions were invested. The pacing is wonderful. It really makes the situation of the grief, how the characters move forward together just believable.
The characters. Holy nuggets the characters.
I loved them. Kate on the one hand was such a powerful female lead. being a widower with her son, Owen, she is extremely strong presence and personality. She is light and darkness all at the same time plus getting the glimpse with flashbacks was stunningly heart breaking. Then with Liam I swooned. I swoon hard for a tattoo brooding man. I can't help it. Especially one that is a delicious sweet heart. He is this perfect additive to Kate, he is patient, kind and just gentle with his feelings.
And their chemistry - oh my lanta. The biggest thing that I LOVED about Marked was the slow burn. The romance that buds between them was natural. It had it's conflicts, it had its sweet moments, it was real. Kate and Liam were real. I could not get enough of them together. The build up was perfection.
There was also some amazing secondary characters that really tugged at my heart in all the right kind of ways. My first love was Margot, Liam's mother. She really was that bottom lift that Kate really needed. I also loved Daz, who was Joel's brother - Kate's husband. He was jsut this support anchor that I really enjoyed as a secondary character. It really makes me want to go back and read the Savage Disciples MC Series, which I plan too.
Bottom line, this was amazing. This was absolutely phenomenal. I could not recommend Marked enough, it is a new series from Drew Elyse, being the first book from this author I dived into I really cannot wait to get my greedy hands on more. This really set the bar pretty freaking hard. Elyse has such a beautiful writing style, this book had so much depth, heart felt moments that left my heat pounding.

Marked was a hit and a miss for me. I liked the story and the way the characters were written but I hated the fact that she was three years out from a loss and hadn't dealt with anything. I get love being strong and feeling guilty is normal, but I hated that she used it like a crutch to prevent herself from moving on. I did however love the way Liam or Lee as Kelly called him had patience with her. And that she didn't sit around whining too much after she decided to heal her heart finally!!
Her kid was cute and the family dynamic was perfect. I loved Liam more than I liked his Gypsy... she just annoyed me with her unwillingness to get past the whole husband who was dead. I thought she was over it enough to move on, but then she was still dealing with it in the epilogue which was somewhat annoying. Loving someone so much is okay and I get that it still hurts but treating the man you love differently because its the anniversary of your dead husbands death isn't okay. That's not healed—its not letting go which I didn't like.
I got that she loved Joel (I even understood why the baby's name and the day of the anniversary of his death would be hard on her and make her sad.) but the whole weeks of grief thing overshadowed the romance making it a little depressing.
So for me this was a SEPE or 4-star read...because I felt the grief more than the romance
Marked was a hit and a miss for me. I liked the story and the way the characters were written but I hated the fact that she was three years out from a loss and hadn't dealt with anything. I get love being strong and feeling guilty is normal, but I hated that she used it like a crutch to prevent herself from moving on. I did however love the way Liam or Lee as Kelly called him had patience with her. And that she didn't sit around whining too much after she decided to heal her heart finally!!
Her kid was cute and the family dynamic was perfect. I loved Liam more than I liked his Gypsy... she just annoyed me with her unwillingness to get past the whole husband who was dead. Marked by Drew Elys is the first book in her new series Sailors Grave. And Wow! I wasn't expecting such an emotional story. Marked gave you all the feels with such a realistic story of one woman’s struggle through loss and her journey of learning to love again.
The relationship between these two characters is utter perfection. I absolutely adored Liam he was so sweet, patient, understand and loving. The care he showed Kate and Owen was swoon worthy. You may be thinking he won't be all Alpha but he most definitely was. He just had the respect and understanding of when to push and when to pull back.
My heart hurt for Kate and all that she had and was going through. But while trying to figure out her emotions and feelings. I loved her strength and how hard she loved, even when it hurt her. Her journey was a long one with a lot of ups and downs. But to read as she worked through it all and coming out stronger for it, was a absolutely beautifully written. Definitely a slow burn you will love.

This is the first book I've read by Drew Elyse. This book was great. A heartwarming and emotional read. Liam is a great hero. He is so patient and understanding. Kate, the heroine is impossible not to like. All of the secondary characters are great as well. While the story is heartwrenching, it's an absolutely beautiful book. I'll definitely be reading the author's backlist.

I loved Liam; I loved how he always took care of Kate and Owen. He “knew” that Kate needed that push and made sure to be there for her when she needed him and was there to guide her son, Owen.
I loved Kate....she was so strong and even though she was going through the motions of life and being a mom until she realized she needed to actually live.
As this was my first book by Ms. Elyse, I look forward to reading more.

On goodreads , trying to find a book by a new author who would be attending the Rare convention in London next year , I stumbled over this beauty . The cover straightway caught my attention -I have a thing for the whole tattoo theme .
But this book is way more than just about a tattooed guy . It’s filled with the heartbreaking story of two people who are meant to be together but repeatedly pushed apart by something dark and life-changing that happened in the past . Something that changed the female main characters life thoroughly .
This author did an amazing job making me as a reader feel exactly all these emotions . Denial , heart break ,funny moments , love , sadness .....
She is extremely talented - I can’t wait to not just read more of her books but also meet her next year myself in person and talk to her .

I was really enjoying this book until the female main character got a "gypsy" tattoo because she always feels that she is "roaming endlessly." That word is considered a slur so I was disappointed to see it and especially disappointed when it became the male MC's nickname for her! Romanticizing the stereotype, getting a tattoo for it, and making it a cutesy nickname? Yikes. I hope the author has since done some research and educated herself on this. Otherwise, would've been an enjoyable book but too problematic.

I had to fight back tears through have of the book. I didn't want to be a blubbering mess in public.
My heart ached constantly for Kate. She lost her husband, she had been afraid to move on.
Liam was far beyond patient. He was the friend she didn't realize she needed.
Heartbreakingly sad, but beautifully written. This book was an easy read and it was hard to put down, even when I wanted to cry.

there is sadness and beauty in this love story. it drags out all of your emotions and holds you tight till the very last word. one of my favourite authors and she absolutely slayed it

1 2 3 In 1 2 3 Out .... seriously loved this story. We had met Kate in the previous series and knew her back story, so I was thrilled that the spin off started there. You definitely don't need to read the Savage Disciples to enjoy this, but I enjoyed seeing some of the crew. Liam is wonderful, but I think a big mention needs to be his mom - loved her. Great read!

Going into this book I was really interested in the concept. I love reading about characters that get a second chance at a one of a kind romance. Marked follows Kate and Liam. Kate lost her husband in a tragic accident 3 years before the start of the story and she hasn't gotten to the point where she is truly living agin. Liam is a tattoo artist in the town that Kate is currently living in with her son.
Honestly, I had some mixed opinions about this story. From the synopsis I knew a big part of this story was going to be Kate grieving and pretending to move on. Liam understands Kate isn't in the right place to start a romantic relationship. Even though he's interested in more Liam offers Kate friendship, or at the very least someone to talk to. The two start to grow closer when Liam starts working on Kate's tattoo. During the time they spend together Kate starts to realize she might be ready to move on.
One of my big worries while reading was this would be a situation where a new love/relationship cures everything Kate had been dealing with for the past 3 years. For a while it seemed like the story was going in that direction. Thankfully the author didn't take that route. Instead there was a focus on wanting to make a change for the right person. On another note I didn't care for the writing, mainly the use of flashbacks. They were overdone and at times made it hard to get a grasp on the movement of time.

My Readultery Life Review
Marked by Drew Elyse is the first book in her brand-new series, Sailors Grave, and all I can say is this book had me smiling, crying and completely engaged in the characters and their story. Marked, is a beautifully written story about one woman’s struggle through the loss of her husband and the journey she takes rebuilding herself.
Although this is the first book in the Sailor Graves series, most off the characters we meet have appeared or been introduced in Drew’s series, The Savage Disciples. Most often when series overlap, I usually find myself missing information that I need to help to build the backstory or characters, but I am very happy to say that in Marked I never experienced this feeling. Drew does a fantastic job providing enough backstory to allow her new readers not feeling left out. This clearly shows a fantastic awareness from the author, that while her loyal fans will know most off the MC characters that they met in The Savage Disciples Series, it also allows new readers to fall in love with the main characters featured in Marked and introduce them characters from a series that they may want start reading.
Getting back to Marked we meet the main characters, Kate and Liam.
Kate’s world came crashing down around her three years ago when she lost her husband in a tragic accident. Left alone to raise their then three-year-old son, Owen, Kate has put on a brave face for the outside world, but deep down she still feels the loss like it happened yesterday. Looking to move on, or at the very least start healing, she decides to get a tattoo, which leads to Liam and Sailor Grave’s tattoo parlour.
Kate is attracted to Liam, but she still misses her husband and knowing that she’s not ready for a relationship, she fights the attraction but there is something about Liam that draws her in and won’t let go.
Liam knows Kate, he’s seen her about, knows her story and knows that while he is seriously attracted to her, she needs her distance. But he’s willing to put in the work to see where this attraction goes. His frequent trips to Kates work place are the highlight of his day and when he is given the opportunity to create a piece of art for Kate, he jumps at the chance.
Liam knows that building anything special with Kate is going to take time. When he proves, time and time again what a great guy he is, his willingness to help her and Owen and taking the time to put a real smile, not the fake one she has been presenting to people, Kate opens herself up to the possibility that Liam may become someone special to her.
This story captivated me from the beginning, the emotions that the author is able to evoke in her readers allow us to feel the pain and triumph that the characters go though in the story. Drew has written a story and a relationship that shows the ups and downs off a relationship. It’s a wonderfully realistic story about the grief and the journey it takes to rebuild a life once a love on leaves us, the author offers her readers a feeling of hope, hope for a better future where love can cure a broken heart.
Throughout the story there is the perfect balance of sadness and happy times. The pacing off the story was spot on for me, I enjoyed the slow burn romance as I felt that we saw Kates character evolve from a broken-hearted woman into a strong beautiful woman, ready to embrace life and love again. I feel in love with all the characters that are featured in the story, but obviously Kate and Liam hold a special place in my heart.
If you are looking for a book that will break you and rebuild you, then this is the book for you. Make sure you add to your TBR List, you won’t be disappointed!!!

On pourrait presque croire que je me fais des semaines à thème et c’est pourtant pas le cas ! Encore une romance poignante avec une veuve qui doit élever son fils seule et qui doit faire son deuil afin de tourner la page. Drew Elyse me surprend avec ce choix de protagoniste très intense qui évolue toujours dans son univers de MC mais pas seulement, elle y rajoute des tatoueurs touchants et sexys, et c’est le jackpot !
Kate a eu trois années compliquées bien qu’elle ait un sourire sur son visage à longueur de journée. Seuls les instants avec son fils la font sourire pour de vrai, ça et quand elle va passer du temps avec Liam, un tatoueur amoureux de sucrerie qui vient souvent dans sa boutique. Elle fait sembler d’avancer alors qu’elle n’a pas réellement fait son deuil et le regard compréhensif de Liam va la pousser à vouloir tenter sa chance, vivre enfin à nouveau et non pas survivre pour le bien de son fils et de sa famille. Kate est à la fois forte et fragile, courageuse et trouillarde, ce qui la rend si humaine et réaliste.
Liam est un tatoueur de génie qui a une petite faiblesse pour les cupcakes et surtout pour la personne qui les lui vend. C’est quelqu’un de bon, c’est un bon vivant sur qui on peut se reposer, doué avec les enfants et proche de sa famille. Il a un passé similaire à celui de Kate, à la différence que lui c’est son père qui est décédé dans un accident de voiture. Cela explique pourquoi il est si compréhensif avec elle, qu’il ne la pousse pas à bout alors qu’il aimerait être avec elle et surtout comment il a comprit que ses sourires étaient faux. Franchement, je n’ai rien à dire contre Liam, il est presque parfait, si on retire le fait qu’il se retienne peut-être un peu trop.
Le couple de Liam et Kate se met assez rapidement et naturellement en place. Ils ont beau dire qu’ils vont commencer par de l’amitié, ils ne trompent personne surtout qu’ils s’entendent à la merveille et que Liam s’attache aussi à Owen. Owen fait partit intégralement de leur couple, ce petit garçon adorable et plein de vie est comprit dans le package et les réactions de Liam à son contact forcent le respect. Bien qu’il est question de sexe entre Liam et sa belle « gypsy », c’est surtout émotionnellement qu’évolue leur couple, il y a beaucoup d’obstacles à surmonter et la communication en est la clé.
Drew Elyse m’a une fois de plus séduite avec ses personnages réalistes, haut en couleurs et attachants. Elle utilise peut-être des stéréotypes, mais tout est bien intégré dans son histoire, au point où on ne les voit plus au final. J’ai aussi apprécié le fait qu’on voit plusieurs membres des Disciples, qu’ils ont un rôle ici, par contre je suis frustrée qu’on ne voit personne du Sailor’s Grave à part Sketch et Jess. Même si le livre se lit très facilement et d’une traite, que les émotions étaient très fortes, il manquait un petit quelque chose, de la surprise qui pimenterait le tout. Mais je lirais la suite de la série sans problème !

This is a kick you in the feels kind of story. It sticks its hooks in you and you get dragged along for the ride.
Kate is a widower who lost the love of her life in a car accident. She's barely existing but keeps it together for her son and has become a zombie expert. Hardly anyone can see through her exterior. Liam has silently carried a torch for Kate and is the only one seeing her drowning and understands her struggles more than anyone else in her life.
Cue the endearing and emotional slow burn. Words to describe this read: heart-melting (and wrenching); swoon-worthy; bittersweet.
Liam is the definition of a book boyfriend. He was kind, patient, understanding, and the right amount of possessive and alpha when he needed to be. He was the most gentle with Kate but he also gave her the kick in the pants when she needed it.
You truly empathize with Kate. Her journey is rough and long and slow to recovery; but beautiful. At times you want to smack her and tell her to just let Liam in, but you totally understand why she's hesitant. Although tragic that she lost her husband, and I have no doubt they would've made it for the long-haul; Kate & Liam were made for each other in a way that's hard to explain. They both had to live through tragedy to be compatible for each other.
Liam's family is great. Kate's son is adorable. And I loved all the other side characters as well.
Overall this is a fantastic story. I highly recommend if you're in the market for some tissues. But it's an absolute feel-good by the time you get to the end.
So, after singing all my praises, why the 4 stars? This author chose a writing style that at times totally took me out of the story. Italics.
Kate spends a lot of times in hear head. She relives the past and sometimes hears her husband's responses in her head. Insert use of italics here. Which makes sense.
But as the story goes on the author uses italics for all the following scenarios:
*Kate reminiscing/reliving events that happened just hours earlier
*Kate's internal thoughts
*Conversations - instead of using quotation marks, entire conversations will be in italics as Kate is absorbing what is being spoken to her; especially when Liam speaks
*Liam's internal thoughts
*Liam reflecting on his interactions with Kate
All of these scenarios are mixed together. I found it inconsistent and confusing. Sometimes I would have to start paragraphs over to confirm what the italics were being used for since it was used for literally 1 of 7 different things. The italics would run for paragraphs, if not entire pages.
I digress. Amazing story. Almost 5 stars. Just some of the writing style choices were not for me. I would however, totally recommend.

All of these scenarios are mixed together. I found it inconsistent and confusing. Sometimes I would have to start paragraphs over to confirm what the italics were being used for since it was used for literally 1 of 7 different things. The italics would run for paragraphs, if not entire pages.
I digress. Amazing story. Almost 5 stars. Just some of the writing style choices were not for me. I would however, totally recommend.

Liam loved his brother so much, and had harbored feelings for Kate through the years, so he knew how Kate was doing. If only he could find a way to leave a mark on her.....

Crying is therapeutic, that's what they say.. Sobbing and wailing, now that's kind of ugly to see, but I liked how soothing it felt once the rivers of tears had dried up. Throughout reading this book, I couldn't really tell the feelings that capitulated my tears to fall, but damnright, this book is all about heartfelt emotions and leaving a mark in someone's heart.
Regardless of the number of times I cried, I really enjoyed this book solemnly, immensely. I cried buckets for Katie, not just because of her widowed status, but also because of her abusive childhood. This girl had been through a lot and I felt her pain. Liam, the tattoo artist extraordinaire, was sweet, gentle, persuasive and oh so caring, I'd want a piece of him. He was such a cupcake sweetheart despite all the ink covering his sleeves...
MARKED is a remarkably great first book in the Sailor's Grave series by Drew Elyse and it's really overwhelming. I felt like a part of the Disciples and Sailor's Grave's family and now I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Drew Elyse introduces readers to the Sailor’s Grave series with Liam and Kate’s heart-wrenching story. Marked is raw, painful, and wonderfully real as these two seemingly opposite personalities find common ground and an unexpected understanding of one another’s pain. Liam and Kate shared an easy friendship with an electric undercurrent of attraction that drew me in. This couple’s sometimes awkward, but always sweet encounters left me wanting more, and I quickly became invested in their developing feelings. Liam and Kate made me laugh and swoon and cry. Marked delivers plenty of angst and breathtaking vulnerability with just the right amount of sizzle in this emotionally intense story.
Both Liam and Kate exhibited significant personal growth over the course of this novel. I absolutely adored the way Drew Elyse used Kate and Liam’s budding relationship to push both characters to move forward, work through their pain, and let go of the hurt. Kate, in particular, had me in tears as I felt her grief and sorrow down to my bones. My deep understanding of this character had me celebrating every victory and rooting for her to find her happily ever after. The secondary characters really helped to round out this story, and they played a significant role in revealing the true nature of our hero and heroine. I found myself quickly getting attached to the peripheral personalities in the Sailor’s Grave world, and I look forward to hearing their stories in future books.
I wish we could have seen more of Liam and Kate’s past together, specifically their first meeting and the ensuing moments of awkward flirtation and mounting sexual tension. Without this basic foundation, even in the form of flashbacks throughout the story, it felt as if the reader was diving into a relationship already in motion. However, since we didn’t get to experience it personally, I had a hard time connecting to their established familiarity and understanding how quickly it progressed into more. I did appreciate the uncertainty and fear that plagued Kate and Liam’s relationship. The “will they won’t they” aspect of this story felt genuine to where Kate was at in her life, and it gave the overall journey an emotional authenticity.
The pacing of the story is consistent and Marked was an easy read. Drew Elyse’s writing is vibrant and imaginative, and I always feel transported into the story. Marked hits the heart a little harder than some of her previous novels, but Drew balances the intense emotion with just enough sweet and sexy fun. Overflowing with sparkling chemistry, witty banter, and inked book boyfriend perfection, Marked will leave you begging for more of this new and colorful world from Drew Elyse. A spinoff of the Disciples Daughters MC series, Marked features some familiar faces that will make you grin. These cameos gave Liam and Kate’s story a feeling of family that had me instantly hooked. Drew Elyse serves up sass, sizzle, and some serious feels - Liam and Kate’s story is sure to leave you Marked!

Marked is the first book in the Sailors Grave Series. This book follows the life of Liam and Katie. Taking us through their journey of Love and loss.
Katie has lost a part of her world that was meant to be forever. She has the support of her Brother in law who brings them into his Savage Disciples family without hesitation. She smiles and plays the part of the widow that is moving on with her life. Liam is a talented tattoo artist who is going about his life, loving his family and trying to stay away from the sweetest treat, failing miserably.
Liam wears his heart on his sleeve, he shows a side of himself that is full of emotion and bares his own personal loss and struggles. Katie’s character brings grief and loss to life in the book, she is independent and a protective mother.
The chemistry between Katie and Liam is there from the start. Their friendship opens them up to a level of intimacy that brings you the full love story feels. Leaving you wanting to be swept off your feet. Can Katie move past all her fears and live the life both her and Owen deserve?
Drew’s writing is strong throughout this book. The emotions that both Katie and Liam go through makes you feel that you are right there feeling them too. She seamlessly goes between the 2 characters with ease making the book flow into a love story.

Marked is the first in the new series Sailor’s Grave which is a spin off from the Savage Disciples MC.
Sailor’s Grave is a tattoo parlour run by the MC, where Liam works. He is a man with plenty of heart and from a close family, his penchant for sweet cupcakes means he daily gets to see Kate at the bakery shop. He knows that Kate has been through a bad time in recent years but having a Mom who has gone through a similar devastating loss, he has an understanding of what she has gone and is going through. Having a major crush on the young widow has him treading carefully.
Kate is still coming to terms with the loss of her love of her life, leaving her behind to cope and raise her young son alone. She gets support from the MC but it’s a mixed up bag where she partly blames them for her husband’s demise. She notices the hot tattoo artists coming into the shop regularly and gradually they pick up a friendly banter which develops even more when Kate decides to get a tattoo.
This was a slow burn romance and it felt like the parts with Liam and Kate took a back seat to the recalling of the past with her times with her husband. It didn’t feel as balanced as I would have liked. However I loved the characters and the connection between them. Liam was especially endearing (as well as being sexy!) and I loved his family and the banter between them. His mother was a hoot but also became a great support to Kate.
Overall this was an a good storyline and if you love a slow burn romance with engaging characters then you will definitely want to pick this one up. Looking forward to the next books in the series. Four stars.

Tldr: an overall lovely book that just needed a bit more development
After a ton of bad books in a row I usually go for the simpler (aka harder to fuck up) books, but after my last failure I was really in the mood for something with some strong emotion. Though this book didn't rip me apart like some I've read, it did deliver. The heroine was tragically wonderful. She was loyal to her own detriment, buried in brief but without ever making it a pity party, and still had the spark that makes me like her. The hero was a perfect match for her. He understood exactly what she was going through and he was so patient and sweet with her, he always put what was best for her first. The writing was lovely, I don't normally like when books mix in flashbacks preferring to understand what's happening from the get go but for this book it really worked pulling the emotions from me in a way that doing it on page one wouldn't have. My only real complaint is that I wanted a little more development to get to the end. I feel like more of the book is spent on her and the dead husband's relationship than forging this new one. I think the couple was great together but I would've liked to see them actually date for awhile to get to where we end up rather than a long time sniffing around each other then secret hookups until it blew up and straight into forever after. It wasn't necessarily unbelievable but it was the difference between four and five stars. I'm not sure I'm invested in the other characters enough to read this as a long series but I am giving the next one a try

Beautiful tale of a woman finding new love
This is a spin off from Drew Elyse’s MC series, that I really enjoyed. The female character is Kate, someone we were introduced to in the previous books as her brother in law is a member of the MC. Kate lost her husband in an accident they were both in, with their 3 year old son. Her husband sacrificed himself so his family would live. For a long time Kate has been grieving the loss of the man who was her whole world. She has been hiding her pain and living for her son, Owen.
Through the MC, who had become her family after the death of her husband, she knew the Sailor’s Grave tattoo artists. About a year ago a new artist arrived, who was returning to the area he was raised in, Liam. Liam lost his father in an accident when he was a child so he understands to a certain extend what Kate was going through, because he watched his mother do it.
Liam is very attracted to Kate but has left her alone, apart from daily trips to the bakery where she works. Then Kate comes in for a tattoo. Liam admits to Kate that he has feelings for her.
What comes next is a beautiful story of two people who want to love each other, but a previous love stands in the way. It’s painful to hear about Kate’s loss and Liam’s hurt over the woman he cares for, but it is beautiful too. It’s actually a very simple story without massive plot twists and excitement. It is gentle and soul stirring.

Okay so it needs to be said that MARKED should have a fucking warning label on the front that says you will need 3 boxes of tissues. I was expecting to have my emotions go through the wringer because Combust got me emotional with Daz losing his brother and seeing Kate become a widow. But HOLY MOLY! I had to stop reading this book in public because I didn’t know if Drew was going to make me cry again on the next page. Needless to say Kate and Liam have such a beautiful and amazing story! MARKED is an epic slow burn that is a spectacular start to a new series. To say I’m excited for what’s to come with the Sailor’s Grave series is an understatement! Liam totally won my heart over from the beginning. I’ve never read a character that is so caring and understanding and patient. I was definitely curious to see who Drew was going to write to win Kate’s heart after her tragic loss and Liam did not disappoint! Also, the side characters! Liam’s family was hilarious and so cute. I wish the book was longer just so I could have more scenes with them. MARKED is such a beautiful story and I thoroughly enjoyed going on this heartbreaking journey with Kate and seeing her overcome her grief. Easily 10 out of 5 stars for this book. 😍😍🙌🏻🙌🏻
