The Evaran Chronicles #8

The Cosmic Parallel

Rate this book
Not all prey is the same.

Dr. Albert Snowden just wanted to see a parallel timeline where Neanderthals were the dominant species on Earth. What he did not expect was a barren world. While investigating what happened, he, Evaran, Emily Snowden, and V are pulled into a trap created by a mysterious group.

One issue is that the trap forces the group to jump to parallel Earths. Another problem is that the Torvatta, Evaran’s ship, is out of the picture. It does not help that the cosmic-energy-enhanced nanobots in Dr. Snowden and Emily are not working as intended.

To make matters worse, each jump to a new parallel Earth weakens them. Along the way, they meet Jelton Stallryn, a Rift Guardian, who has also fallen into the trap. Together, they will fight to escape and then track down the mysterious group responsible.

I have been dreaming about fictional worlds since I was a kid. I devoured anything related to fantasy and science fiction. I developed a setting over the last twenty years and struggled to find a medium I could express it in. Several years ago, I discovered I enjoyed writing. It is a passion of mine now, and exploring my setting with it has been an awesome journey.

I work in the information technology field and have my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in it. It has helped me to shape some of the concepts I write about. I also enjoy keeping up on futurology and science in general.

I live in central Ohio and enjoy walking, reading, gaming, learning, listening to music, and trying to keep up on my never-ending list of TV shows and movies to watch. If you want to contact me, you can do so on my website at

The Cosmic Parallel (The Evaran Chronicles #8) by Adair Hart is a book I requested and the review is voluntary. This novel is super intriguing! Not only do That an and the gang get transported to a world out of there timeline but in a different parallel universe. They spend a great deal of time trying to jump to the right world at the right time witch would be easy if the had their ship. The do meet an interesting fellow that was also trapped in the deadly game the immortals out them in. I hope he becomes a regular! Each world is full of very imaginative life and dangers. Great fun how they get out of this one!

Summary:

Evaran, Dr Snowden, and Emily wanted to see what a parallel world ruled by neanderthals would look like, but what they found was both unexpected and chilling. Instead of a world teeming with like they found a dangerous wasteland that lead them to a new friend, Jelton. They become trapped in a game orchestrated by an unknown group bent on taking their life force as they are forced to jump from world to world trying to get back to the Torvatta. As the game continues, Evaran is determined to find their freedom as they find many of the worlds have been decimated by their hosts who seem determined to end Evaran’s life force as they have many of his other plane forms. It was telling how angry they were over what the other Evaran had done to them making this reader wonder if their was some truth in what they said. Evaran had his own doubts, but their own disregard about other life forms sealed their fate in Evaran’s eyes. I wonder if this could be some foreshadowing of things to come in future books.

This was a fast paced action filled story as the crew fought to return to their lives while protecting those who need their help. I really enjoy V, their AI, as his ability to understand emotions brings him closer to becoming human. I love how when he gets a complement his lights grow brighter showing his happiness. Evaran and his friends will fight to protect each other in spite of the danger to do what is right because protecting others is what they do which makes them heroes in my eyes.

A delightful book that is a little bit ruined by the last 20% or so.

This novel due to its premise fixes a lot of the issues I had with the previous ones. The large overbearing cast and needlessly stretched out plot is instead a very succinct and clear story. The villains, though still another group of power-hungry despot, are at least a bit more interesting this time due to having a variety of personalities and a personal connection to Evaran. The story still jumps from setting to setting but this time there's an in-universe excuse and the structure of the story supports. The characters are still very fun, and this time they get quite a bit of development.

However, the ending kinda ruins it a little. Once the characters escape from the trap that limited them and their movements the story returns to the overbearing mess of terms and abilities of previous novels. And while it's not a big part of the story, this novel does bury the reader with all of the different energies and reality-levels and other bullshit unnecessary concepts this series loves. And it really drags the story down. Still, even then it does retain its good parts like the characters and drama.

This series is very obviously inspired by Doctor Who and I wish it took a few more things from that show, such as the non-combative protagonist who solves problems with wit rather than with firepower or technobabble.

After the drag of the last novel I thought this one would be the last one I read but it changed my mind, so I think I will keep going, at least for another novel.

Thinking that the series of Evaran chronicles has ended the author Adair Hart have surprised me with another Evaran and the gang audiobook .
Every time that a new one got released I used to stop, put everything on hold and immediately start listening to the new one.
And now once again I was glad to put everything on hold for The Cosmic Parallel.
Wow is all I can say ! Adair Hart have truly out done himself on this one, I fell into this series from the first page on the first book, I never thought that it can get better and don’t get me wrong all the books in this series are great but the first was the best till now he have out done it and I’m so great full for Adair Hart, this I’ll never forget.
As usual narration by Michael Pauley was dead on perfectly done.

Absolutely full heartedly recommend this audiobook for all without a doubt.

In exchange for an honest review I’ve received this audiobook.

Review of : T!he Cosmic Parallel; Book 8 of the Everan Chronicles

See another book of the series completed and I feel a little sad, because it is the last so far. I still have the prelude book to read, so it isn't all bad. I have really enjoyed this series and hope Mr. Hart adds more books with Evaran and the gang as his characters. I hope you read and enjoy!

Another grand adventure

As always, another nail-biting adventure across the universe, rifts, and parallel Earths. Dangerous consequences for everyone, but help from new friends.

In one of the most creative books written for this series, Adair Hart, the author, has Evaran jumping through different celestial planes using an alien transportation system that saps some of his cosmic energy with every jump. Evaran ends up discovering that the cause of the increase in malevolent energy enhanced beings is one of his other selves, an evil Evaran. He decides to sacrifice his life to rectify the harm done but is saved by his traveling companions, Doctor Snowden and his niece Emily.

Every book in this series seems to excite me more than the ones that came before. I can't wait for the next book in the series to be written.
