When Jenny first arrived in Pelican Cove, it was not easy being a newcomer fitting into a small town but it was thanks to a group of kind hearted ladies who made her welcomed, accepted and even offered her a job which meant a lot. So when one of them is shot, it becomes personal for Jenny and she is determined to find out the perpetrator. But what she is not prepared for is the fact that things and people are not always what and who they seem to be.
Another fun filled cozy from Leena Clover. I did really enjoy this one, the new characters that she has introduced makes me smile and I cannot help but really love Vinny, Enzo and their associates. I think Leena has captured their characters very well, their love and attachment to Petunia as well as their ideas as to how to fix things!! I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion. Looking forward to Book 7.
Another great addition to the Pelican Cove Mystery series! The setting of an island off the coast of Virginia is beautifully described. I felt like I was sitting in Jenny’s back yard with her. The characters are people you’d want to know personally and the storyline is enthralling. The books can be read separately, but I would recommend reading them in order to get the background information. I would recommend this book (and series) to anyone who like clean cozy mysteries, island settings and surprise endings.
Jenny is having some series mood swings and the mob comes to town. What more can go wrong? One of the Magnolia Girls is murdered! Jenny is investigating and grieving and spending some serious time with Jason. Will Adam be kicked to the curb? Will they find the murderer? Will Jenny say yes this time? Come on over to Pelican Cove and find out!
Jenny's day started off like any other day until she noticed that Petunia wasn't at the cafe like she normally was. She sees her sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean. But when Jenny gets closer, Petunia was shot in cold blood. As everyone is shocked over this happening, Jenny tries to keep her mind going by keeping the cafe open in honor of Petunia. Looking for the orders she needs for supplies, Jenny noticed that Petunia meet with someone once a week. Sheriff Hopkins and Jenny have been in a rather cool down period of their relationship and he isn't helping her with any information on her dead friend. There is also a major mosquito problem for the town, and things are heating up about what to do about that. Can the killer be found? Why was Petunia killed? Who was Petunia? She is not the person everyone thought she was. You will need to find the answers in this bitter sweet book. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
A great read - written with feeling and emotion. Although I must admit that they could have wrapped it up much earlier if the police had actually taken action. When she gets to the cafe she finds the door unlocked but no sign of Petunia. Worried but still going through the motions of opening up she doesn't think about it until later in the morning. Going out she spots her sitting on a bench facing the open sea. It's not until she gets closer that she finds Petunia dead. Shot at point blank range! Now with everyone in shock they start looking into her life, surprised at how little they know about her life previous to coming to the Cove. The truth hits them full on. She was the only daughter of one of the biggest mob families. Petunia a Mob Princess! Throw in the arrival of her sons, her father and their varied entourage. Add in possible gang involvement, transients and mix well. Or is the real answer a simpler one. Can they find the killer before anyone else gets hurt? How will the various members of the mob family react? Will her relationship with Adam get smoother?
I keep reading this series but I'm not sure why except that I do like to follow books with the same characters, etc.. This installment was the worst of the bunch.
I don't understand the "chemistry" (which is really the lack of chemistry) between the lead (whose name completely escapes me right now) and Adam. He's rude. She's rude. They snipe at each other. It's just no believable that they are couple newly in love.
Also, getting entirely sick of the author using various verbs rather than just saying "X said." Everyone "wails, " "cries," "seethes," "roars," "cackles," "growls," cribs(??)", "jabs," and "wheedles" just to name a few.
I also couldn't figure out the timeline of this one. Did the victim die yesterday or 2 months ago? And the mobsters part of this was not even to the story.
This is my favorite book yet in the series. It is also a sad book because this time it isn't an unknown person who gets murdered. But Jenny and her friends leave no stone unturned and solve the case. It is also kind of a funny book because there are mobsters in it (this is pretty evident if you read the title) and they sound like they were sent over from 1930, Studio C. Calling Jenny, "Doll" and wearing fedoras, they tickle me!
Ms Clover has really hit her stride with this book. She gets some of her characters moving (finally) and makes me more anxious than ever for the next book. I can't wait to see how things happen next! She also has left us up in the air somewhat, but I think the next book will make us understand why. (I hope!)
Book 6 in the wonderful Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery Series, with Jenny, Star, Adam and all the usual characters.
However, when one of their own is found dead, Jenny has no option but to investigate, despite Adam asking her to stay out if it. Jenny uncovers some startling things about their friend and her life before Pelican Cove. People in the Cove aren't necessarily who they purport to be!
There's also an infestation of mosquitoes in the Cove, and Barb Norton doesn't make any friends when she starts to deal with the problem in her usual brash way.
I can't stop reading these books, they're easily read in a couple of hours and I have to ration myself in order not to read them too quickly! They're well worth reading.
Wow! Petunia's family now considers Jenny to be one of them. What happens to Petunia is sad. It does open up new possibilities in the story. Both Jason and Adam want to keep Jenny in their lives. Who will win her hand? Or will she just want to remain friends with both of them? Get a copy of this book and come along on this ride. Find out if they figure out who killed Petunia and how they go about getting answers to the questions. Who are the two who worked together to solve the case? What happens to the killer? This story is well written. New characters are introduced. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is 100% my own.
Jenny goes to work at her usual time, but something must be keeping Petunia her friend and boss. Petunia is always there with coffee made when Jenny arrives. Things get busy and Jenny doesn't have time to call and check on her til things slow down. When she walks onto the deck intending to call she notices a woman sitting on a bench. It looks like her friend. When she goes down to make sure Petunia is ok, she finds her friend dead from a gunshot. Who would hurt the sweet, older woman?
Why? That’s all I kept saying while I was reading this one. I enjoy the series, I enjoy most of the characters. I’m hoping real hard that Jenny says a resounding NO! But mostly I whole heartedly wish the correct character had been killed off. I find myself needing to put the book down and walk away for a few whenever I see her name or her loud greeting appear on the page! I know this series is done and all the choices have been made and I’ll find out soon enough where the story goes, but I just needed to get my opinion out there.
Jenny arrives at the Boardwalk Cafe at her usual early hour and is surprised that Petunia isn’t already there getting things started. She’s concerned and inbetween prepping for the day she tries to locate Petunia. Unfortunately she finds her on the beach, on a bench, but she’s been shot to death. As Jennie tries to unravel what happened the Magnolias discover that Petunia had invented herself and her life and is not who she claimed to be.
The five stars are for all of the Cozy Murder mystery book. All of these books make the characters come to life. Jenny and Adam are my favorites. Each book,so far, leads into the next new adventure. They all are great mysteries. I highly recommend these books to anyone looking for a good mystery that is not heavy and ends on a positive note with a little bit of the action coming in the next book! Read the series ☺
This story is part of a great cozy mystery series that I am binge reading. I love Jenny and her posse, the Magnolias, and all the other wonderful characters brought to life in this book/series.
The Magnolias are grieving a loss. Jenny and her posse will not rest until justice is served.
There is no graphic violence or vulgarity in this intriguing whodunit. It is a fun and easy read.
Jenny King has moved to her Aunt Star’s house in Pelican Cove, Virginia after leaving her husband of twenty years. Moving there had opened a new life for her. Her day is crushed when a body is found on the beach, Jenny, Star, Betty Sue & Heather make a pact to investigate the death. As time goes on more suspects come into play regarding the death. The puzzle finally comes together & the town gets back to normal for the moment.
Jenny and the Magnolias are devastated when Petunia is found murdered on the beach. Determined to solve this case, all the girls band together to each help in their own way. They find a lot of surprises along the journey, and Jenny needs to figure out her relationship with Adam.
The mob has moved into Pelican Cove. Well not really moved, just visiting. This is a fun cozy mystery. The Magnolias have lost one of their own and have to help find the killer. They are a warm loving group of women, who support each other and feel like old friends. The Boardwalk Café is a wonderful place to visit. Really enjoy this series and the characters.
I was not prepared for the death of one of the Magnolias. Jenny had to find the killer. Another great read. So many suspects and red herrings. Wonderful characters, an intriguing storyline, colorful visitors. All this makes for an interesting installment in this entertaining series.
I understand that some readers need a refresher of the main points when it is an ongoing series, but the continuing and ongoing repetitive junk going over basically the same thing, book after book is beyond ridiculous filler that amounts to at least a fourth of every book, so is beyond annoying and useless filler.
I still am liking this series; however, this was my least favorite book so far. It dragged in places and it didn't seem to flow as well as the others. Some of the phrases/paragraphs ended or started abruptly. Without giving anything away, the Magnolias have lost one of their own. Jenny needs to find out exactly what happened to help bring closure to the group.
Great murderer mystery. Love the main characters Jenny ,Magnolia gang Adam and Jason. Hopefully there will be more in the series. It's nice to see the relationships get stronger. Thank you .Stay well and please continue this series.
I could just picture the Magnolia girls sitting at the table outside the restraunt drinking coffee and munching muffins while they solve the latest mystery. Cute story for a rainy afternoon.
I enjoyed this series of stories, the author has done a wonderful job of telling her readers of the mysteries that are discovered by characters in her series of stories. The author included a little humor into the series.
I love this series by Leena Clover and if you love a cozy with characters you will love and a storyline that will keep you turning the page then this is a must read I can't wait till the next book
This book is completely making past Pelican Cove stories irrelevant. Remember when Jenny became a silent partner to give Petunia the cash infusion she needed to fix up the Boardwalk Cafe? I hate when you read a series and it forgets earlier plots 😞
Again I am almost without words to say how much I truly love reading your 📚. The main storyline in each book is so unique and intriguing. Great characters....Great book....Great writing....📚💃✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I like the plots and the characters. Jenny is older than most amateur detectives. She has A murder to solve, a mosquito infestation to fight, and complications in her romance. There are plenty of suspects and some surprises.
Wonderful family mystery murder series! Suitable for readers, teen to oldies. Funny, romantic and a great read! I read the whole series and loved them all!
