When cub reporter and New York City girl Cassie Holt takes an anchor job in the charming, remote city of Golden Falls, Alaska, her family and friends think it’s the end of her journalism career. But Cassie has her reasons: she’s in hiding from a terrifying stalker and needs to get as far away from home as possible. The only problem is that she knows nothing about how to make her way in a place with deep snows, fierce rivers, and grizzly bears.
Cody Bradford is a wilderness man through-and-through, born and raised in the Alaskan bush. Now a firefighter for the city of Golden Falls, he spends his days off hunting and fishing, resigning himself to loneliness in the belief that no woman would want to share his civilization-shunning lifestyle.
When Cassie is assigned to go on a ride-along with the Golden Falls Fire Department, she and Cody lock horns over city vs. wilderness … and find themselves fighting an attraction that neither expected. Cody offers to give Cassie “Alaska Lessons” to help her adapt to her new life, but even as their desire for each other grows ever more powerful, their differences—and her secrets—threaten the happiness both of them seek.
Hi, guys! I fell in love with both Alaska and romance novels while on a cruise through Alaska's Inside Passage. I hope you enjoy visiting the fictional town of Golden Falls, Alaska, as much as I enjoyed creating it, and I hope you fall in love with the heroic and hunky firefighters just like I did. I love to hear from readers, so please get in touch at www.scarlettandrews.com! Yours, Scarlett

I think I've found my perfect place to live -- Golden Falls, Alaska. Even though it's a fictional town, it really came alive for me when I read True North by Scarlett Andrews, and I loved it as much as I loved the two main characters, Cody Bradford and Cassie Holt. I liked Cody because a. he's a firefighter, and who doesn't love firefighters? and b. he's what I imagine when I think of Alaska men - strong, rugged, independent. He's a solid guy who's resigned to being alone because he knows most/all women want the comforts he lives without, preferring instead to live nearly off-the-grid. And then Cassie comes along, who's always had the material comforts, having grown up wealthy in NYC, and it's one of those instant attractions that doesn't make sense to either of them, but there it is.
I get instant attraction because that's how it was when I met the man who would become my husband. It was an instant, fluttery-tummy feeling that just happened, and it changed and defined the path my life would take.
I also liked that the sex scenes, while intense, felt intrinsic to the story. I rooted for Cassie and Cody the whole way through, throughout all the obstacles they faced & I hope to see more of them in this series.
The plot was kept simple and I truly appreciated this. There was the romance with its own difficulties and Cassie's past. Those two things were solid through the entire story and there weren't any unnecessary complications, additional dramas, or extra players added to increase tension.
Cassie has a stalker and his actions are escalating. She finds an escape that even comes with a job that increases her own career profile. It seems like the perfect solution to both of her situations being fresh out of a prestigious journalism program and following a near kidnapping. Excited for her next steps she heads off to Alaska despite her parents misgivings.
Things start off well, more than well if the person that greeted her at the firehouse door is going to be part of her new adventure. Her first ride-along assignment is with the Golden Falls Fire Department and the handsome, stacked Cody is the first face she sees. It's also the only face she wants to see from there on out during her temporary stop in Alaska.
Cody is struck dumb, literally, when he sees the fiery and stunning news anchor. He's been chosen to be her guide on the ride-along and he's both eager for and dreading it. His shyness is nothing new, but his being completely tongue-tied is.
They get along really well and despite the synopsis making it seem like they have a huge disagreement between city and wilderness, they have differing opinions based on their own experience that opens them up for the lessons that follow. The lessons are actually practical and not a joke on either of their parts. While they both feel immense desire for one another Cody is reluctant to get involved with someone who will be leaving.
Annoyed and rejected as a lover but not a friend, Cassie isn't sure of how to get what she wants. Through the lessons and Cody's gently, intense nature she finds that she's growing to not just like Golden Falls, but love and even crave the wildness that is Alaska. Their relationship deepens and becomes more passionate and sensual as well.
Just when she thinks she's ready for something more, something permanent with her wild Alaska man, a bear encounter brings up all her fears and insecurities and she decides to run. Cody thinks it's from him that she's running but with her keeping secrets close to her chest he has no choice but to let her go. When a group of Boy Scouts go missing she gets the career break she's dreamed of but it also opens her up for her past to join her present.
The way things intensify and are then resolved is really good for the overall feel of the story. It made sense in the overall plot progression as well as the romance. I liked where it all ended up and even the sentimental moment at the falls was perfect for the couple. Just enough sentimentality blended with honesty, feels, and realistic expectations.
I'd love to continue the series because the side characters are a solid support cast while drawing interest into their own situations beyond what we learn in True North. A great start to what is sure to be a great series.
Read and willingly reviewed this ARC from the author via Booksprout.
Cody is a twenty-eight-year-old in the small town of Golden Falls, Alaska, who, when he's not at the station with his fellow firefighters, live off the grid in a remote cabin where there's no cell reception , no Internet connection nor indoor plumbing. His lumberjack look may impress the ladies, but his solitary and rustic lifestyle help cool down the enthusiasm.
Any man would be please to have to give a tour of his workstation to the new and pretty reporter Cassie Holt and why not for a chance to woo her, except for Cody who's shy around women and think that he's out of her league.
New Yorker Cassie comes from a wealthy family but had always been hardworking. A job in a little Alaskan town was not part of her life plan but to escape a stalker who became more and more scary, she's gonna make the best of a bad situation and take this new opportunity to prove herself. The young woman is intrigued by Cody's hermit status and immediately attracted to him but he made it clear flings are not his style and it couldn't be any other way since Cassie is only passing through and will left when a better offer present itself. But when she asks Cody to show her Alaska around, he propose Alaska lessons that will definitely determine if Cassie can get used to his way of life and share it with him or not.
I read the second book of the series before this one and it was amazing ! I'm not saying I didn't like this one but Cassie and Cody didn't completely sold me on their romance. Something bothered me with their chemistry and I felt like they weren't really on the same page. He wanted to take things slow and it didn't go as fast as she wanted for example. At the risk of sounding contradictory I liked that it showed that Cassie is not completely okay with all aspects of Cody's life or that she needed time to adjust. I think it's because myself I shared the heroine's opinion about hunting and I knew I would be just as torn as her between my convictions and the desire to share a moment with someone and not judge the opinion of the other if it differ from mine. I just had a hard time believing that suddenly at the end the things that bothered the heroine one minute stopped bothering her the next, just like that.
Having said that, I'll certainly continue to read the series because I got attached to the folks of Golden Falls and I want to know about the HEA of the other firefighters and I still think you should read this series because like I said, there's great characters and book 2 was really special !
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. Wow- I absolutely loved this book! I rarely ever give out a 5 star rating- but I really enjoyed this one. It immediately grabbed my interest, and held it straight through to the last page. It made me want to move to Golden Falls! The hero, Cody Bradford, lives far off the grid in Alaska- only making the trip into the town of Golden Falls when he needs to pull his 48 hour shifts at the Golden Falls Fire Department. He is a true born and bred wilderness man, having grown up in a tiny town of 9. He is considered to be kind, but socially awkward. The heroine, Cassie Holt, grew up as a wealthy city-girl in New York City. She is a spunky young reporter who has acquired a persistent stalker. After a particularly frightening incident, she decides to get as far away as possible and takes an news anchor position in Golden Falls, Alaska. Her boss decides it would make a good story for her to do a ride along with the fire department, and Cody is assigned as her liaison. Sparks fly, and Cody proceeds to give Cassie a series of "Alaska lessons" to see if a city girl could make it in Alaska (although he also really wants to spend time with Cassie!) It was so much fun to watch the relationship develop between these two. They had terrific chemistry, and the spicy, sexy scenes fit well and helped to deepen the story instead of detracting from it, which I appreciate! I loved that there was a great plot behind the romance, and the character development was very good. There was always the looming deadline of Cassie's departure from Alaska that created a sense of sadness that lingered behind the fun. And ohhh... there is a scene where Cody has purchased new wineglasses that almost had me breaking down into tears. The suspense part of the story (with the stalker) was also well done. I never felt like it was over the top, and I could actually see something like that happening in real life. I also very much enjoyed the author's descriptions of the Alaskan scenery. It was very easy to picture everything that she was describing. This was the first book that I have read by Scarlett Andrews, but it will definitely not be my last! I plan to start reading book 2 in this series very soon.
This is the first Scarlett Andrews book I've read and I'm impressed. Of course I love the firemen, who doesn't? I also enjoyed the storyline set in Alaska. Scarlett managed to make me feel like I was right there amongst the wilderness and beauty. The sex scenes were written well and not too much at all. A bit of love and a bit of mystery and suspense made for a great easy read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Cassie is a cub reporter from New York city when she gets the opportunity to be a reporter in Golden Falls, Alaska. This is all to her family and friends horror! But Cassie has a stalker and she needs to get away where he won't be able to find her. She has a day riding with the Golden Falls Fire Department. It is during this day that she meets Cody who is a born and bred Alaskan bushman who loves the wilderness and looking after himself whilst realising it is unlikely that he will find a woman to love that would be prepared to live like he does. He and Cassie cross swords during the day and the sparks of chemistry can almost be seen when they're together. Every time they meet the heat increases and they feel more drawn towards each other and eventually they do create a real relationship between them that is so natural. With plenty of heat for spicy bedroom scenes and the depths of their feelings for each other deepening. But he doesn't know her secret and this causes tension between them. The stalker finds her! Will Cody be able to keep Cassie safe? Will Cassie survive this latest onslaught of mental torture? To find out you need to get yourself a copy of this book. I certainly enjoyed the story as I loved both the romance and suspenseful aspects of the book by Scarlett Andrews.
First book in a new series and I know I want to read them all. This is a fairly new Author and I enjoy her writing she kept me interested in the book from the first page. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cassie need to leave behind her familiar life in New York City and move clear across the country to escape a stalker. She discovers new friends, a new love, and what is important to her. I savored this lovely "opposites attract" romance novel.
Excellent well written book. Cassie leaves New York for Alaska because of a stalker. She is out of her element there with the weather and everything. She meets Cody who knows all about the country, weather and such. They have a love story that plays out normally without a ton of sex. And let us not forget the staker. It is mysterious, suspenseful, emotional, and so much more. I highly recommend it. I really enjoyed reading it. I was given a review copy by Book Sprout and voluntarily review it.
I received True North as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
In an effort to hide from a stalker, Cassandra "Cassie" Caldwell leaves her comfortable Manhattan existence to take a job as a newscaster under an assumed name in the small, remote town of Golden Falls, Alaska. Her first assignment is a ride-along with the town's fire department. Among a dashing and attractive bunch of men, Cody Bradford, with whom she's paired, stands out. For his part, Cody is content living a spartan existence far outside town with his dogs, amidst Alaska's native splendor--until he meets Cassie, whose adorable personality and determination to embrace Alaskan life (if temporarily) wins him over. But when the reality of Cody's remote lifestyle and the dangers that brought Cassie to Alaska come to light, the pair have to decide if their romance is real or just a fling.
I actually really enjoyed this. It falls into some of the typical romance tropes (idealized small town, a stable of hot firefighters just waiting to be paired up in future books), but it also doesn't shy away from some real issues that come with living in Alaska--the remoteness of Cody's life, the darkness that engulfs the state for half the year, and the dangers that those circumstances can bring. So often, it's the woman that has to give up her entire life to move where her man lives, whereas between Cassie and Cody there's some compromise on both sides. There's also less shitting on city life than you typically see in these novels. And to top it off, the chemistry between them is really hot. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Even though Cody and Cassie have an immediate and intense attraction to each other the moment they meet, they are the complete opposite of each other! Cassie's an outgoing girlie girl from NYC and loves everything about living in a big city and her move to Golden Falls is only temporary! Cody's a quiet man who likes to be alone and lives in the wilderness, living off his land when he is not working as a firefighter in the small town of Golden Falls...in fact he likes living off his land so much that he does not have running water, internet or phone service and uses an outhouse! Things start to get even hotter between them when he agrees to give her lessons on Alaska living...only to have them fall apart when her past catches up to her and she decides to leave Golden Falls much sooner then expected. Good read!
i was the lucky winner of a copy of this novel through a goodreads win. it is a very steamy and lighthearted romance set in the arctic. the story is about cassie, a newscaster who flees her life in new york to relocate in alaska because of a stalker. there she meets shy, hunky firefighter cody and the sparks fly. cody is looking for a permanent relationship but cassie makes it very clear she is only there temporarily. i enjoyed reading this book because of all the descriptions of alaska, and the steamy bits of course! can't wait to continue the story in book two. syndi
Cassie and Cody’s story contained my favorite things; sexy, hot fireman, remote location in Alaska, and an independent, strong woman. I absolutely enjoyed True North by Scarlett Andrews, book one in her Golden Falls Fire series. Cassie leaves New York, along with her family and friends in order to hide from a terrifying stalker. She hopes that by taking a job in this remote city of Alaska and changing her last name he will be unable to find her. Golden Falls fireman Cody is a true wilderness man, being born and raised in the Alaskan bush. He spends his days off from the Golden Falls fire department hunting, fishing, and living off the land. Talk about being off the grid. He is under the belief that he will never find a woman willing to share his civilization-shunning lifestyle. After being assigned to go on a ride-along with the Golden Falls Fire Department with Cody as her guide, these two find themselves fighting an attraction that neither expected. Cody offers to give Cassie “Alaska Lessons” to help her adapt to her new life and spend time together. As their desire for each other grows ever more powerful, their differences, city versus wilderness, and her secrets, threaten the happiness both of them are seeking.
Ms. Andrews wrote a wonderful, steamy, and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Cassie and Cody a chance at having a true love. I highly recommend True North to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Running away from a stalker, New Yorker Cassie gets a job in Golden Falls, Alaska as an on-air reporter. As part of her job, she has a ride-along with firefighter Cody. Cody helps her acclimate by giving her “Alaska lessons.” They are attracted to one another. If you like romance, you will like this book. I received this book from Goodreads giveaways.
I received this book in a giveaway on Good Books. I read the whole book; but I was not really enjoying the book. The story is easy to predict the ending. I am an avid reader but this book just did not hold my interest.
This book is full of great characters, wonderful descriptions of beautiful scenery & then there is this great love story that has happiness & tear jerking moments. Good Read.
I really enjoyed this story. It was written well and kept my attention. Characters were pretty much developed for the story. Some sexy items, some suspense, and a HEA. All good.
I received True North in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for my honest opinion.
I found True North to be a cute romance that kept me interested from beginning to end. My only problem with the story was that the break up seemed rushed. It was like Cassie just suddenly decided she didn't want to be with Cody, with no real reason, and broke up with him. The break up portion of the story bothered me, but everything else was great. I loved the end where they saved the Boy Scouts, faced Cassie's killer and realized what was right in front of them all along.
I would definitely recommend True North to any romance lover!
How far would you go to get away from a Stalker. In this book she has to go all the way to Alaska but is it far enough? Okay enough of the back of the book blurb. You have already read it or wouldn't be looking at reviews and I don't see the sense of going over it again. I like how the author painted Cassie as a strong woman but still has some weaknesses. You get to see the reasons she does what she does. She meets with a fire fighter that has some of his own problems. With a little miscommunication thrown in and instant lust makes for a fun story. You could feel a connection with the characters and with the land. With so much wilderness in the area the author stages the story that has to play in the story and does, but in a way that is helps the story along.
Is Alaska far enough away from NYC to stay safe from a determined stalker and protect your heart as well? A sweet quick read about love and Alaska and the choices we make. This definitely makes me want to go back to Alaska again.
