I thought I was out for a night of fun with the love of my life, Ebbin. My best friend Blue had other plans. She added a little something extra in our drinks. Something that was meant for Ebbin and I. A lust spell. We ended up taking three men home that night.
Now eight weeks later, we find out we are pregnant. We are ecstatic, that is until we run into three men we thought, were long gone.
We didn't know they were different, supernaturals which we call Other. We also thought our baby would be human like us, a Hollow.
Forced to find out if our child will be Hollow, or Other, we are sent on the journey of our lives.
**This is intended for readers over 18** Mild cliffhanger. This is a Reverse Harem series. One woman, four men.
Trina was born in Washington State, but moved to Arizona to become a Motorcycle Mechanic. During her years in school she met her now husband, and has since moved to Texas. She lives there with her husband, three boys, three cats and three dogs! (she like the number 3). She is an avid reader and is just starting her career in writing! She loves paranormal romance, and anything that gets her mind into another world!
Very interesting worldbuilding. I enjoyed the mix of supernatural and myth. Hollows Awakening had a nice fast pace, and the characters had some great banter. A few too many coincidences, so there could have been more complexity. There are some irritating typos and grammar that may annoy grammar nerds, a proofread would be helpful, but I liked the storyline, so I skipped over them.
Oh Trina, I have such a lady boner for you. This is an amazing story. It's also very unique. So little unknown fact about me - I'm not a fan of pregger books. Because, well. Meh, I don't have kids so I can't relate. BUT, and this is a huge but, like baby got back BUT...
I Loved Mira. Yes, she finds out she's preggers on the first page (no, that's not a spoiler - read the blurb, with love) but the preggers doesn't take the center stage. I kinda forgot she was preggers for portions of the book. Yes, there are some pregger specific parts, but dude. I was HOOKED.
I mean, come on, a sexy orgy with 4 dudes (also, this is a reverse harem, in case I forgot to mention it) and now it's a fun game of 'who da baby daddy?'
This book is set in a world where all the paranormal species are out and proud baby! We get introduced to a whole new world and there's plenty of species to play with.
And FYI - our girl Mira? Yeah... She's a prankster. LOVE IT. I loved reading how the character relationships develop and grow, especially after some of the crazies that are thrown the group's way.
PROS: - Funny characters - Interesting new worlds - In-depth with character/species
CONS: - Cliffhanger Warning! - Trina, you know what I need! Make it happen. <3 - Where's book 2???
OVERALL: Loved it! I can't wait for more and there are some questions that I need answers to. Great first book from a new author.
I love Valkyrie books, who does not love a strong female who doesn’t take crap and kicks butt, said no one ever! I loved this book!!! It is enchanting to learn of the different paranormal groups introduced. The opening of this book hooks the reader and keeps them struggling at midnight to stay up and finish the rest! The storyline is developed, there is a bit of the unknown, but it adds to the base of the story it does not deter from it.
The main heroine of this tell is a “Hollow” or a human named Mira; who is in a long-term relationship with her Hollow boyfriend Ebbin. Mira, is a funny, loveable character who shows inner strength and kindness, all while being completely ok with protecting what is hers! I truly love this character! Ebbin is the easy-going, go with the flow guy; both he and Mira are in for one heck of a surprise that leads to an unforgettable adventure! One night of drinking and a special spell from Blue her paranormal or “Other” boss leads to 4 guys and a bedroom of fun times. The 3 men who join in on the fun are also what is known as the “Other.” Rhett who is the residential joker and wizard, Merrick who is the brooding serious type and his other is Fae, and Rhydian who is the shifter of the group; and he is the loving cuddle type of guy too!
These five have one heck of adventure, with some, oh, wow really, moments! I love how this story builds and is opening it up for the next book in line! I can’t wait to read book 2!
In The Hollows Awakening we're immediately thrown into the story of Mira finding out about her pregnancy after an evening of some magic enhanced fun with her boyfriend/love of her life and 3 other males. From here on out we learn about the others, hollows and the general mood is set.
Throughout this book we learn bits and pieces of the different characters and the world as it is (the Conclave seems sketchy AF).
The main goal? Keeping everyone safe and find out more about Mira's heritage to make that happen.
This book is wellpaced, not too slow, not too fast and that is one thing I really love. I do not like plots that take ages to build up. Mira is a strong female main character and the men surrounding her are devoted to her and their group. The ending of this book left me wanting to know more and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I was instantly interested in this book from the blurb and decided to dive in. About a quarter of the way through the book, I didn’t know if I was going to finish it. I love the whole Other/Hollow aspect of this story and enjoy the supernatural side. The story telling I felt was kind of all over the place. There were a lot of details not necessarily needed in some cases and the story seemed to jump around to me. I feel like a lot of things should have been pointed out/caught during a beta read like places where it would switch between past tense then present. There are extra words and places where the order of words are switched around. I pushed through the story and genuinely wanted to know about Mira and how things would turn out with the men. The story is solid but I just wasn’t into it to pick up book two.
To be honest, I was on the fence about reading this because the description mentions pregnancy and I usually don't like to read a book with pregnancy in it but I listened to some friends and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! This is a good story of love, friendship, and self discovery. The pregnancy doesn't take away from the story or romance. It was very easy to read and I'm very glad I chose to read it. I would definately recommend this book to others to read.
LOVED IT!! Trina Bates knocked it out of the park with her very first book. The story line is unique, just like the characters. It is very well written and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I hated putting it down because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next!! Unfortunately I must eat and go to work! Damn you work!
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an exciting, unique, fun, emotional, loving, funny, tear at your heart strings book!
I’m not loving this book unfortunately. There are some grammatical issues that I find annoying; misplaced commas, incorrect words, and incomplete sentences are some of the issues I have noticed. The plot is kind of interesting, but there is a lot of explaining that I am not a fan of. I know that the author needs to explain things because it is different from the human world; however, it is a lot more focused on the explanations than the plot and characters. I want a lot of plot with sprinkles of explanations throughout. Simply not the book for me…
I enjoyed this book, but it desperately needs and editor. Lots of minor typos, repeated words or wrong words used. It felt very fast paced, like there was no down time. I wouldve liked more relationship development. We don't really know much of anything about any of the characters because the book lacks those slower, "filler" chapters that pull you deeper into the story and make you more attached to the characters. Zero steam apart from the odd kiss.
This story is so captivating. The author took the time to really show you amazing character development and set up a creative world full of mythology and wonder. I don't do spoilery reviews because I feel that it takes the magic, intrigue and mystery away. What I will say is that is a must read and I am Jonesing for book two!!
Wow just wow. I don't even know where too start as I am blown away by this book. Trina did such a wonderful job. As soon as I got through the first chapter I was completely hooked. I definitely loved the humor and the suspense of what is going too happen. I definitely didn't want too put it down. I was sad when it ended too. Great job Trina.
Well written chapters from POV of the main characters. Once you get your head around what the definitions mean (hollow, other), the story line flows and each chapter filled with right amount of description. Finally finding out what she and Ebbin are sets up the scene for the next book.
Wow this was such a great book been dying for shifter book lol i fell hard for the guys and I’m seriously hook Trina left a lot of go teaser for the next book that has me dying for the next release such a good read
Trina has created a world that has me eagerly awaiting the next book!! Mira and her men (who are all amazing!!) have sucked me into an incredible adventure!! It’s a wonderful story with deep meaningful characters. I am on the edge of my seat to see what happens next!!
This book is definitely one of a kind! So many surprises, twists and turns, I just couldn’t put it down! This is a MUST READ! Now I’m off to start book 2! Happy Reading!!
I read a lot in this category, so often the stories all start to seem the same. This one is different and fun! Good spice to plot ratio. It moves at a great speed with good humor throughout.
I liked it. The characters were diverse enough to be interesting while still meshing together and there were plenty of “fun” times while not detracting from the story.
Absolutely brilliant, the story pulls you in and doesn't let go. The guys are hot, the lovin' is hot and the guys are hot. Read this, you won't regret it
This book has great bones and has some great potential but the execution wasn’t the greatest. It was wordy and had a lot of day to day task descriptions that didn’t push the story forward.
I’m sorry but I am not going to give you any spoilers because I do not want to ruin all the surprises that’s hidden inside this story! So this is all I am going to say and that is I really don’t have the right words to describe this book except to say OMG I freaking loved it, it was absolutely amazing!! I was completely hooked before I had even finished the first page and stayed hooked until I got to the end of the book! Trina Bates has created an awesome masterpiece for her very first book, and she’s shown that she’s definitely going to be an amazing story weaver because I am already really looking forward to reading the next book in this series. So yes it is a big HECK YEAH I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a fantastic story to climb into and get totally lost within its pages! But fair warning you will be wanting and needing more after reading The Hollows Awakening (Beyond The Veil Book 1)!!
Very interesting worldbuilding. I enjoyed the mix of supernatural and myth. Hollows Awakening had a nice fast pace, and the characters had some great banter. A few too many coincidences, so their could have been more complexity. There are some irritating typos and grammar that may annoy grammar nerds, a proofread would be helpful, but I liked the storyline, so I skipped over them.
Always love finding a book thats a bit different to what ive read before and so far this one is hitting the spot!!! Love learning more about the cjaracters as it slowly comes out!!
