Paranormal romantic comedy novella. Hook at very end for next adventure.
Matilda’s office is overrun by a Demi-god with Cupid in tow. Apparently Cupid needs counseling. Before Matilda even realizes what’s going on, she is kidnapped by a bounty hunter and is driving across the States with a gun to her side and a miniaturized Cupid in her purse.
Wacky and off-the-wall, this “case file” is laugh-out-loud funny and raunchy in the best way. I loved the scene when she jumps up on the chair when little boy Cupid runs straight for Matilda. That’s she returning the interest of all the hot men around her, makes me really wonder where this series is going! I can’t wait for the next case.
🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Hollie Jackson. The performance was phenomenal in voices differences and timing. The humor came through clearly even listening to this at 1.5, which is my current preferred speed for easy listening.

A funny, quirky, sexy fast paced read. Definitely caught me off guard and made me smile.
What do Cupid and Psyche, Crixus, a sexy hit man and an uptight virginal psychologist have in common? It all started with an obnoxious 3:45am phone call by a demigod that interrupted Matilda’s very salacious dream, followed by the same demigod thrusting a very disillusioned and disgruntled Cupid onto her couch demanding she counsel him or risk world instability.
After reluctantly accepting that these events are not a product of a mental breakdown, Matilda is kidnaped with Cupid as a stowaway by a Las Vegas hit man who claims has been sent to bring her back to pay the one million dollar debt she accumulated.
Can Matilda help Cupid find love while she convinces Liam, the attractive hit man, he’s got the wrong girl to pay such debt but the right one for a sexy fling?
The blurb for this novella caught my eye, it seemed wacky and fun and totally delivered. The fast flowing plot with crazy twists and sexual tension had me engaged while the crazier cast made me continuously smile and laugh. Starting with the more theory than practice virginal couple’s therapist, her extremely proper vocabulary and constant spewing analysis of the people she encounters is a total contrast to spontaneity.
Even the bad guys are funny and endearing. Well, I’m not sure Crixus or Liam could be considered bad guys, but Mr. Fathead to whom the debt was owed was quick to please. I don’t remember any Crixus in my Greek mythology, but his demanding and overconfident nature aligned with the demigod persona and added flavor to the story, especially after we learn about his method of travel.
Liam Whatshisface, though playing his role of a hit man to a tee with Matilda’s unrepentant kidnapping, through their journey together we learn he has cracks underneath his stoic armor giving both common ground and added incentive to their attraction and even with abounding hilarity and sexiness we still get key poignant moments between Liam and Matilda.
But my favorite character was Cupid, with his grumpy, obnoxiousness he still managed to charm his way into making me want to cheer him on. There was a lot going in this short read, and although I would have loved an extended version of this story it certainly wasn’t lacking in humor.

Fun, fast-paced paranormal romp. Be prepared to suspend all reality for this one.
I liked this one, and I listened to the whole thing while running errands today. It is paranormal chick-lit, and enjoyable in a mindless way (and I mean that as a positive!). Parts were a bit rape-fantasy for my taste, and I totally rolled my eyes at the virgin psychologist bit, but there was no slut-shaming here and I'm always behind a smart woman MC.
I'll probably keep going with the series as long as the price is right.

Matilda Schmidt is a psychologist that has more studied human interaction than actually lived it. When she receives a strange phone call from a man claiming to be a demigod she thinks she actually may be losing her mind. When that man shows up the next day at her office with Cupid in tow expecting Matilda to treat him things couldn't seem to be any crazier, that is until a armed man comes in and kidnaps Matilda claiming she's been to Las Vegas and has gambling debts to pay.
A rather crazy mix up of events that wasn't bad but with it being such a short story it seemed a bit too much to try to toss in. I would've liked to see a lot more detail and fleshing out of characters and story lines before jumping into the next event but this is novella length so it felt a bit rushed.
Overall, not bad just felt it would've worked better as a longer book.

Unlovable" was a short fun read that I could not put down .
What happens when a very uptight psychologist has her dreams intruded by the demigod Crixus, who the the very next day dumps a not so cherubic Cupid on her office couch for analysis.
Well if your Dr Matilda Schmidt, your day just keeps getting crazier when a very big, very sexy and attractive mobster shows up and abducts her along with Cupid because she supposedly owes a Vegas casino a million dollars Of your not laughing at this point you will be when Liam Whatshisface meets Cupid for the first time. The scene kind of goes like this The bathroom door opened, and a towel-hipped Liam sauntered into the room on a cloud of steam. “Forgot my—” They froze. Cupid, smoke puffing from the cigar, embers burning down the cardboard match to his hand. Liam, hand halfway to the duffle bag, in search of a razor or shaving cream. Then, they screamed. Cupid first. Then Liam. Then Cupid. Then Liam. “So, this is awkward,” I said".
Cupid well he is just full of surprises he also winds up shooting Liam with an arrow and dr Matilda then winds up the victim of Liam's amorous feelings. One arrow shot then gets Cupid sent from the motel room, he apparently can not stay out of trouble though and winds up firing more arrows at other hotel guest.
“What did you do?” Liam asked. “Let’s just say Fast Eddie won’t be walking right for a while. At least, not if his friend Moose has anything to say about it.” “You didn’t,” I said."
Cupid and his problems lead them on further adventures that keep you flipping page after page.

I came across this book on Amazon and it sounded like a good read and I sure was right.
It’s a quick and good read with lots of things happening in it.
The only thing I didn’t quite enjoy is the whole two men thing. Like she doesn’t like him but she sleeps with him within minutes...she doesn’t like the other one either but she feels things when she’s close to him, she annoyed me when with those two but other than that it was good.
I enjoyed the fact that she choose herself in the end and walked right out of them, good in her.
I think I may have to pick up the second book and see how that goes.

As a fan of Janet Evanovich, Mary Janice Davidson, and Charlaine Harris, I love to read a mystery and/or romance that makes me LITERALLY laugh out loud. I'm not talking about an "lol" or an amused chuckle, I mean my family comes in to check if I'm actually reading, because how can a book be this hilarious?
Unlovable is not only witty, sexy, fast-paced, and action packed, it has moments of extreme poignancy, vivid characters, and a few hot scenes that will melt your socks off!
Did I mention it was funny?
St. Aubin gave us closure for this story, but she definitely left me anxiously awaiting the next one!

SO FREAKING FUNNY I SPIT MY TEA OUT! This is the kind of book you wanna read when you are having a spit in your face kick you in the groin pich you tit kind of day! Matilda - i wanna be YOU when i grow up! This is a sweet and sassy short read and i loved every bit of it! This book filled my cork and snark quota for the year and just in time! DO NOT MISS!!

This is how an awesome book from an awesome author begins….. Yep! It totally made me want to read some more!
At page 7 I was determined I needed more…. Humor, suspense and sexual tension, all in the perfect analogy!!
“Is it supposed to be that big?”
Oh yeah! It was definitely a good choice of a book!!!
It’ s fast paced, humorous and it makes you beg for more!!! I would like it to be longer, but I totally understand why it isn’t. Since it has elements of Greek mythology, I had a problem with Cupid’s name, but it was sorted out! The twists are amazing and the way the cliffhanger comes (yes, it has one!) leaves you at the end of your seat, looking to buy “Unlucky”.
A must-read if you’re looking for something with paranormal elements, that will make you laugh (out loud, most of the times… :D ).

I was totally captivated from the very start of this fast paced, incredibly funny story! A 3:45 am phone call from a demigod named Crixus telling the good doctor that they are going to save the world, is a darn good indication of things to come!
Add a hit man named Liam who works for a Las Vegas casino owner named Stefano Fathead, Cupid who is love sick himself and not doing his job, Psyche and her Pegasus and we have a recipe for an Unbelievable side splitting adventure!
This cast of entertaining, well developed characters will have you laughing out loud with their antics and individual style. I found even the "bad guys" endearingly hilarious........and the best is yet to come as you'll see at the end.
I definitely recommend this outstanding, funny, paranormal romance to anyone 15+ who can see that the sometimes blatant & descriptive language is aimed at the fun.
I was gifted this book in return for my honest review.

UMM... i really don't know what to say... i didn't really get it... The book felt more like a train of thought than an actual story.... All a bit random and all over the place.

This is a quick read that had me laughing out loud. Matilda is a psychologist that is having a rough day. She’s kidnapped by a Vegas hitman with Cupid hiding in her bag. I enjoyed the narrator and I immediately started reading the next book!

Unlovable is a fast, fun ride! It blows your hair back, makes you gasp and laugh, and leaves you wanting more...
Dr. Matilda Schmidt, Ph.D Psy.D - is a pretty, analytical, mentally moderate virgin. Her orderly day has a sudden hitch in its giddy-up when the sexy demi-god Crixus, (who so arrogantly freaked her out the night before) suddenly tosses a winged baby into her office - demanding she fix the cherubic love god's broken heart.
Before much progress can be made, the good lady doctor finds herself kidnapped by Liam, another delicious male specimen. His job - deliver her to a Vegas mob boss. Dr. Schmidt is to be called on the carpet for a very large bill that an impostor has racked up in her name.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"One of your favorite places." Only a tourniquet could stop the false brightness bleeding from his voice.
"Whole Foods?" Hope floated my voice to a pitch too eager to respect.
The first installment in The Case Files of Dr. Matilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist series is a very quick read. What it lacks in length, it more than makes up for in fun. Cynthia St. Aubin's writing instantly charms with vivid clarity and color. The range of humor flows naturally. It streams along the spectrum from dark to silly, harmonizing with each situation.
Matilda reacting to her orderly world being upended in a fantastical way is quite amusing. She pinballs from analytical curiosity to irritation and fear to lustful abandon. She's very quixotic, but not in a way that makes her unbelievable. As a character, she's surprisingly rich, and she stays within the boundaries St. Aubin has given her.
Crixus is a demi-god of whom I've never heard. He's got the arrogance and impatience of an immortal but it's implied he has a kind core. The irreverent tossing of Cupid into Matilda's professional care is out of concern for the love god. He's got some intriguing teleportation skills, and flirts unrepentantly with our heroine.
Liam/Luigi Whatshisname is another character that St. Aubin writes very well. He's an alpha-male, a little broken, but he's stoically done what he has to do. He doesn't really pull any punches with Matilda's capture. There's not an instant, gooey-eyed intimacy that prevents him from harming her. He doesn't truly hurt her, but is somewhat blase about keeping her unconscious and in less than comfortable physical conditions during much of their journey.
The best supporting character is Cupid. He's surly, whiny, self-serving and completely ignorant of boundaries but somehow, still charming. Rather than being nothing but annoying, these flaws create some very funny situations.
The story moves at a brisk pace, but doesn't lose too much due to the lack of length. The "rules" of the paranormal are joyfully bent - no lengthy exposition, fresh ideas of what the para characters can and cannot do, etc. While it could easily be stretched out into a full-length novel, part of its charm is that it's a quick read. The reader gets a good introduction to the characters, a roller-coaster of a plot, and a silly but well-devised resolution - just before being efficiently teased with the next chapter of Dr. Schmidt's adventures.
There's not really many problems here. Liam's character seems to gravitate toward Matilda's quite quickly, despite Cupid's assertion that the attraction should be only physical. Other than that, there were no glaring plot holes or discrepancies. On a side-note: I have a very major pet-peeve about typos and editing errors. It's a compulsion and something that will yank me right out of a story. This book was beautifully edited and formatted.
I've purchased all three of the stories in the series, and am looking forward to seeing what new characters and shenanigans will ensue.

Liam/Luigi Whatshisname is another character that St. Aubin writes very well. He's an alpha-male, a little broken, but he's stoically done what he has to do. He doesn't really pull any punches with Matilda's capture. There's not an instant, gooey-eyed intimacy that prevents him from harming her. He doesn't truly hurt her, but is somewhat blase about keeping her unconscious and in less than comfortable physical conditions during much of their journey.
The best supporting character is Cupid. He's surly, whiny, self-serving and completely ignorant of boundaries but somehow, still charming. Rather than being nothing but annoying, these flaws create some very funny situations.
The story moves at a brisk pace, but doesn't lose too much due to the lack of length. The "rules" of the paranormal are joyfully bent - no lengthy exposition, fresh ideas of what the para characters can and cannot do, etc. While it could easily be stretched out into a full-length novel, part of its charm is that it's a quick read. The reader gets a good introduction to the characters, a roller-coaster of a plot, and a silly but well-devised resolution - just before being efficiently teased with the next chapter of Dr. Schmidt's adventures.
There's not really many problems here. Liam's character seems to gravitate toward Matilda's quite quickly, despite Cupid's assertion that the attraction should be only physical. Other than that, there were no glaring plot holes or discrepancies. On a side-note: I have a very major pet-peeve about typos and editing errors. It's a compulsion and something that will yank me right out of a story. This book was beautifully edited and formatted.
I've purchased all three of the stories in the series, and am looking forward to seeing what new characters and shenanigans will ensue.

Which leads to her goldfish in a cup thanks to a Vegas hitman and a cross-country ride to Vegas. With Cupid as a stow away throw in a bed , a towel a set of handcuffs and a fight over a cigar and you get a story that will leave you laughing out loud. Grab the Kleenex you are going to need them from laughing so hard the tears will run. I can't even tell you how fun a read this was.

When I was in college I took a class on the essentials of writing. The professor (and the writing lab) stressed that the opening sentence had to draw the reader in and make them want to continue reading. I never really mastered that skill, but Cynthia St. Aubin certainly did. From the opening paragraph, the reader knows that what they are going to read is going to entertain.
Unlovable is in a class by itself, in that it is not like anything I have read before. It's kind of like an R rated Charmed (you remember Charmed, don't you?) in that the reader is being introduced to Cupid, mobsters, a sexy demigod, and a lecherous security guard, when they all show up in Dr. Matilda Schmidt, (Psy.D, Ph.D) office and reign havoc on her life and good sense.
My hope is that Unlovable will be turned into a full length book and this will just be the first chapter. Happy reading.

I got this book as a gift from the Author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was unable to sleep and figured I just glance at the book until I get sleepy, well I found the book so entertaining and funny that I ended up reading way later than I intended. I loved the characters, the steamy romance and the witty dialog along with a great plot with a new spin on the paranormal. I cannot wait until the next book comes out. Cynthia St Aubin has a new fan in me and I hope to read many more of her books in the future.

Cupid is cheesed off, he as been unlucky in love and so feels the rest of the world should suffer as well. Demigod Crixus has decided that Matilda Schmidt is the Phychologist to help Cupid out and get love back in the world . She also has to cope with a case of mistaken identity and sexy vegas hit.
I read this in one sitting and have already brought her next two books.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this, and boy was I in for a surprise! I absolutely loved this book, I love the main character Matilda, she is hilarious! And I can't decide which of her men I love more, the gorgeous demigod, or the very sexy hit man. Sigh. As soon as I finished this, I immediately started the second book, then went to Amazon and bought the entire series! If you like a fun, sexy, and hilarious romance, then try this series!

A fun and quick read. I didn't know what to expect when I decided to read this book, but I'm glad I did. It was different, lots of fun and oh so sexy. I can't wait to read book 2, I am hoping Liam will make another appearance.

This is my first book by Cynthia St. Aubin and a fairly quick read. It was a sweet, funny take on the paranormal and Greek mythology.
Summary:
Dr. Matilda Schmidt is proud of where her life is going. Especially after the childhood she survived. She’s running a respectable, successful psychological practice right up until a sexy demigod busts into her office and drops a lovesick Cupid in her lap with instructions to fix him. Getting past the fact that she isn’t in fact, having a nervous break and hallucinating current events is a little difficult. Just when she feels she may have a handle on the situation and get’s back to the business of her business, she’s interrupted yet again. This time by a sexy hitman intent on kidnapping her. What follows is a hilarious, steamy, wild ride across country, destination Vegas. Unfortunately, Matilda isn’t sure she’ll ever get back to her well-ordered life in one piece, if at all.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a sweet little escape with laughs, some sexy times, and a little danger. I really liked Matilda. Having her life disrupted by such fantastical things through her for a loop, but she reacted much the same way I hope I would: a quick freak out, followed by denial, and ending with cool acceptance. Lol. She’s smart, both book and street, a little bit sassy, and funny. Crixus is still a bit of a mystery. I’m not sure I’m sold on him. He’s hot and a demigod, but I didn’t really like that he was completely oblivious during Matilda’s kidnapping because of a woman. Especially if he’s a love interest of Matilda’s. I also don’t understand his motivation in seeking out Matilda for help. I did like Liam, though. He’s also very smart, sexy, funny, and has a childhood similar to that of Matilda’s. I liked their chemistry together, too. Overall, this was a fun read, and I can’t wait to delve into more cases with Dr. Schmidt. ♡

This was an over-the-to, fun, and quirky romance with paranormal elements. I love how the psychiatrist in Matilda was always at work - first on herself when she thought she was crazy and then on everyone else she came in contact with from Cupid to a mobster. The story moved quickly and I laughed quite a bit.
Read if you enjoy quirky characters and an even quirkier plot.
Be wary of reading if you have issues with male characters being a little pushy in the physical department.

So this book is both funny at times and cheesy at times. The best part of this book was Cupid! He was hilarious. I am glad it wasn't a very long book.
Even though this is the written in the first person it wasn't full internal blah blah blah nonsense.
As for the narration it was pretty good. Hollie Jackson did a decent job on the male voices.

In the first book in the Dr Matilda Schmidt series, Matilda lives for her 9 - 5 routine. She deals with her therapy clients, eats healthy and does yoga.
Part of that control Relates to mother issues.
Everything seems normal until Crixus, a demigod she's dreamt of crashes into her office looking for Cupid. I won't spoil him for you, but he's an awesome character.
Then in bursts a bit man, Liam, who kidnaps her to bring her to a casino in Vegas for a debt she doesn't owe.
This is one crazy road trip with the psychologist, the hitman , a Cupid and Demigod. With therapy and orgasms.
It's very funny and also heart warming and sexy.
Great fun.

This is a fun start to a series. Matilda is having a rough day. Crixus, a demigod, is forcing her to treat a depressed and ineffective Cupid. Just when she is coming to grips with that, a hitman kidnaps her in a case of mistaken identity. The story is funny and the characters are likable. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator did a great job. I look forward to seeing how Matilda's the story continues.

What? I’m not sure what I just read. The story is a jumble. There’s no flow. There’s a gratuitous sex scene, a demi god, Cupid, a mob boss, and a case of mistaken identity. Completely lost
