What exactly did I just read? There was next to no explanation as to why Fin turned on Sky suddenly. It's vaguely inferred that she doesn't want to lose him, and I guess that we have to assume that she just decided to ice him out. It makes no sense. Sky would have had more questions, he would have tried to reach out to her rather than just accept the ice out, again that had no explanation. And if she is doing this in an effort to protect him, why doesn't she give half a crap about Sky potentially dying at the camp with the children? She's just happy she doesn't have to see it. So does she care about Sky, or is she just preventing herself from trauma? It makes no sense that someone who is allegedly top-tier intelligent would do either of those things. It honestly ruined most of the book for me because *nothing* made sense after that.

For people with allegedly super intelligence in them, they sure do mess up a lot and miscalculate everything. When will they realize that every single person in power they trust ends up betraying them?

There is so much left to be desired with the writing. Hugely important details of world building are not there. Like how did Elias and Fin get to the base from the crater where she started succumbing to the effects of the radiation? Did the guards see them in the distance and rescue them? Why didn't the guards, their supposed inferiors, also struggle with radiation poisoning?

I'm really starting to hate this series. Book 1 was terrible writing, book 2 really perked it up, and then 3 and 4 are such a steep decline that I don't know if I am willing to keep reading 5 and 6. If these books weren't included in kindle unlimited, I would 100% not read them and try to return any copies I had of physical books. I'm playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes.

Here's hoping that book 5 redeems this disaster real quick or this series will be a big DNF. As of right now, I want my 2.5 hours back.

I wish the characters were as developed as the plot

I really want to love this series, but it continues to fall short. The story is interesting enough to keep me reading and is still very fast paced, but once again I am disappointed by the lack of character development. So much time is wasted on random insignificant details, which seem to mostly be attempts at imagery, but the time would be better spent on character and relationship development. Honestly, Fin’s attempts at avoiding her relationship with Sky are the most feelings or interaction I’ve seen from her. It was confusing to me that she went from hardly knowing Sky and sharing two awkward kisses that she broke off to suddenly in book 4 it’s a month later and we’re supposed to believe that they are in love and living together. I wasn’t even sure they really wanted to be together, but suddenly they are so serious. Also, in all 3 previous books the only indications Elias gave about having feelings for Fin were a couple of looks, now he’s heart broken and not even willing to look at her or be around her and she’s saying that he’s in love with her and hurt. Both seem like big leaps in relationships that were not developed what so ever.

Luckily, I am intrigued by the post apocalyptic world and the several dystopian societies that have been created and have continued to stay interested in what will happen next. If the characters and relationships were more developed I would be a lot more invested in what their future holds and would rate this series higher, but for now it remains a 3 out of 5.

Will her determination be enough to save humanity?

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:

Fin was one of the under-dwellers who was used by the rulers to do the dirty work never to see the light of day. That was until Fin, Sky and their friends revolted enhancing themselves in order to survive. They found allies along the way, but there was more going on than anyone thought. Different factions are determined to take control taking anyone out who stood in their way. Unfortunately, things are never what they seem leaving them confused about who to trust when the stakes could be everyone’s death.

This was a fast paced and complex story that keeps the reader enthralled as the plot as it unfolds. There are still questions left unanswered and I for one can’t wait to find out how it will all resolve.

They never learn

I'm getting real tired of the group never learning their lessons. First book: betrayed. Second book: betrayed. Third book: betrayed. And what a surprise! They also get betrayed in this book. One would think that enhaced humans with superior intellects would learn their lessons, but no, they keep falling over and over again, and making things worse every time.
They wanted to free everyone, but it seems they only succeed in killing people and instead of making things better for a few, they are making things worse for everyone.

I have not read any of this series before. I don't know what happened to the planet or the people. It is almost like a military op. So there is a lot of bullets let loose and people getting shot. A lot of excitement about some of the things they have found also. So it is action from the start. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

I loved this one. It's a fantastic continuation of this series. The characters continue to evolve and become more complex as their difficulties continue to multiply. Beautifully written and constructed, I am so hooked on this series. So many twists and turns in the plot!

This series keeps getting better! Fin, Elias, Sky, and Lacy continue the fight for freedom in this fourth book. The twists, turns, and betrayals are insane! I can't believe what happens at the end. You don't want to miss this series!!

Intense! The next chapter in Fin’s attempt to survive and keep those she cares about alive. Non-stop action with lots of twists and surprises. I’m looking forward seeing what happens next.

I didn't love it. There was too much war and fighting. There are some creative aspects of the planet where this takes place but the interactions between characters were predictable.
