Rent-a-Dom #1

Daddy Wanted

Rate this book
Naughty brat needs a strong guiding hand. Must love dogs. Reply ASAP

Toby Andrews is a busy, forgetful, scatterbrained musician with ADHD, a precocious dog named Ruffles, and a bad rep for partying too hard. When Toby’s actions put an all-important contract with a large label in jeopardy, his manager sarcastically suggests that the omega needs a keeper who'll redden his bottom if he steps out of line. Toby is intrigued, so when he sees an ad for a discreet company called Rent-a-Dom while scrolling his social media page, he impulsively sends a request for a Daddy Dom to help him stay on track.

Thorne Barrett is a jaded, worn-out daddy of a Dom who has no desire to babysit some naughty, out of control, celebrity brat. The alpha reluctantly takes the job, promising himself he’ll find new employment when the contract is over. He doesn't know what his next step might be, but whatever it is, he hopes it will leave him stable enough so he can settle down and think about having a family of his own.

Neither man is precisely what the other expected. Once Thorne gets his naughty 'boy' settled into a routine, Toby begins to blossom and find better ways to focus... and most importantly, stay of out trouble with the paparazzi.

Between band issues, a crazed stalker, an unexpected pregnancy, and a thirty-day cross-country tour, Toby has a lot on his plate. Can he find stability for himself and Ruffles with Daddy Thorne?

This MM book contains mpreg, D/s elements, and is intended for 18+ readers. Warning: Don't read unless you like fun books with feisty Chihuahuas, naughty boys who really want to be good, hot daddy alphas, a story that will keep you in stitches, and steam-filled passion. But then again, this is a Susi Hawke and Piper Scott collaboration—you already knew to expect that, didn’t you?

I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!

I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.

As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.

I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! Meh, this wasn't very good. I gave it two stars instead of one because of a somewhat interesting beginning.

Otherwise the writing in this was pretty damn mediocre, it took forever for anything romantic or sexual to happen between these two, the "stalker" was cartoonish, the "kink" wasn't that hot, barely focused on, this didn't even write out what happened to Toby when he was kidnapped by his stalker, just that Thorne was waiting for him and worrying and then Toby gets out of it and comes back and THEN he TELLS what happens.

Like??? That isn't just telling, that's a character telling, instead of showing. Not good.

Weeks go by that we don't see several times, Toby gets pregnant from some dude he met before meeting Thorne at some orgy, so that immediately bummed me out (also, Toby gets sick once from morning sickness, Thorne takes him to the doctor and then it's like "yep, pregnant" like, not a very good build up).

I found myself skimming by the 65% mark, i didn't care what happened to the characters, I didn't feel a connection between Toby and Thorne - there was no build up either.

I don't get why Tommy, one of Toby's band members, hates him and accuses him of things he doesn't do and has no sympathy for the fact that Toby has ADHD. But Toby is the clear star, and worthy of it because he has talent, but Tommy wants to replace him with some rando? Who in their right mind would want that when the real talent would get them to go much farther? Also, why did two of the other band members go along with Tommy's bullshit? We don't really get any answers.

The sex, also, took so long to happen that I was bored by the time it came along, and it wasn't that interestingly written either.

Just...I didn't like much about this book at all. It did show promise at the beginning, but that promise wasn't fulfilled. Piper Scott can do much better this, so I wonder if the major failing in this for me was the other author's writing, which I haven't read any other books for. I don't know.

But this was a thumbs down for me. Do not recommend.

This was a really good book that I liked. Toby Andrews is a busy, forgetful, scatterbrained musician with ADHD with his little dog Ruffles. When photos of him having an orgy while doing cocaine off some guy's "Johnson" comes out his manager Gary tells him that he needs to stop, or he would be putting his upcoming record contract in jeopardy he also tells him that he needs his ass redden. Toby comes across an ad for a Dom. Thorne is going through the motions of life he doesn't want to be a hired Dom for much longer so he tells himself that this will be his last job. When he gets to Toby's apartment and see how dirty it is he knows that he has his work cut out for him. Toby is dealing with a lot he has a stalker and backstabbing bandmates and when he gets sick after a practice session Thorne takes him to the doctor where he finds out that he is pregnant. Thorne knows that Toby needs someone in his corner his parents are busy with their own lives with his father being a senator Toby comes from high society he is living on a trust fund with Thorne he learns how to find his center he does his daily chores that he set for him, and he loves his punishments. I wanted to see more of the BDSM aspects in this book. This book also had some funny scenes in it after these two got married at first for show to help Toby who was in love with Thorne. When the stalker tried to take him again by threatening Ruffles the dog attacks and what Ruffles did to him was funny. This was my first time these authors this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Not gunna lie I think I enjoyed this read way more than my first haha it’s still a 3-3.5 star read but they hooked me more than i thought it would!

So on to book two!

3 stars: October 2021

This was quick and entertaining but I felt like it had a lot of good ideas but just executed in a blah manner.

I felt as though the authors had the ADHD that Toby had because one chapter would end and bam it would jump to either a few weeks or months later and that wasn’t brought up until a few pages in which made it confusing.

Also this was very low angst as is no angst.. Sometimes it’s needed but idk I wanted something.

Overall it was alright… Nick J Russo did a good job narrating but now I am debating on continuing with the series…

Daddy Wanted is the first book in Susi Hawke and Piper Scott’s Rent-a-Dom series. Since I’m still finding my way in this genre, please bear with me…

This is a sweet and comfy romance with a nice dose of humor, a bit of drama, and some fantastic dirty talk. The main characters have good chemistry, and when they get together they’re a perfect match.

Toby’s a promising young rock musician whose scatterbrained behavior is just screaming for someone to swoop in and take charge. He sees an advert for Rent-a-Dom and hopes this is the answer to his problems. When gorgeous, dommy Thorne shows up it looks like his prayers have been answered.

I enjoyed watching Thorne whip Toby into shape, and the domestic discipline scenes were very nicely done. The early interactions, where they’re getting to know each other, are a lot of fun.

There are quite a few plot twists in this one, and I liked that very little went as I expected. Thorne and Toby are adorable navigating the whole courtship, pregnancy, and parenting thing and I’m glad I gave this Omegaverse story a chance.

I did the audio version of Daddy Wanted and the very talented Nick J. Russo delivers an impeccable performance. His stern Daddy voice is the perfect contrast to sweet and bratty Toby... the only way it could have been any better would be to hear him sing Toby’s ballad in the final chapter *sigh*.

I received this audiobook for the purpose of my honest review

DNF @37%

This was horrible, like it actually hurt to read. The characters were bland and yet still kinda gross, and the dialogue read like a really really really bad script, written by someone who thinks they know how human conversations work but has never actually seen them happen. Even skimming it still tripped my gag reflex. And don't even get me started on the terrible interpretations of ADHD and BDSM culture - I'm actually kind of angry about it...

Toby is an up and coming musician with ADHD who needs help managing his life. Specifically, he realizes he needs a Daddy. So he contacts Dom for hire service, and gets Thorne.

What starts off as a business arrangement soon turns into something more. After spending a few weeks together, the guys realize that the other is exactly what they are looking for.

This is action packed, dealing with a stalker and kidnapping, a fake relationship that turns into something more, backstabbing band mates, and a surprise pregnancy. Through it all, it’s clear these two belong together.

I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to read more in this series.

Omega universe, non-shifter mpreg.

If you are into "Daddy" kink, don't expect this book to deliver no matter what the title promises.
There is no chemistry between the MCs to justify any sort of a relationship, let alone a daddy kink.

5 Stars Book/Audio Overall
Updated/Edited E-Book Review to include Audio review 10/11/18

Audio – Nick J Russo did great with this book. It was nice to see him give us such perfect voices to match each of the main characters Thorne and Toby, as well as the smaller character parts as well. Each voice had its own distinction and I really liked how their more playful personalities really came out and shone with the narration we got from Nick. I liked this audiobook a lot. I hope he is able to narrate the rest of the books in this series.

This book is awesome. It has a ton of fun characters and action packed into it. Another great collaboration from these two authors Susi Hawke and Piper Scott. They seem to be the perfect match when it comes to writing the hot, kinky, sexy dirty books. Great start to what I am sure is to be a fantastic series. I can't wait to see what these authors have in store for us next.

Fake boyfriend/marriage, Daddy Dom/boy, m-preg, Spanking, Stalking, kidnapping, Hot and dirty Alpha/Omega sex, cum play, rock stars, friends turning on each other, and cute little dogs. The BDSM aspect in the book is all very light and more D/s than anything, no hardcore elements or pain just mainly the Dominant Alpha taking charge of his Omegas needs. This book has pretty much everything you could ask for in it. I loved it all.

Toby is a musician who is sweet, clumsy, a complete and total brat who has ADHD which does not seem to help him along in his out of control lifestyle. He really just needs a Daddy, Dom or someone to take control and give him some much needed structure and direction in life. That's where Thorne comes in. Thorne works for an escort type service that helps pair people with Doms depending on their specific needs. Thorne is instantly enamored with Toby, seeing through his ditzy, bratty behavior to the boy who just needs someone to care enough to help lead him in the right direction. What is supposed to be an 8 week contract while Toby deals with his musical career, and tour turns into more as time goes on. They can’t fight the obvious attraction and connection to each other. I really liked this story, not only do we get the dialogue and interesting communication between the two men but we actually get an in depth action filled plot as well. I was happy with the Daddy/boy trope we got especially seeing Thorne was only mid-thirty's, that he was old enough to fit the role he was put into but he also wasn't really old compared to how some daddies are written into books. I thought Toby was a really fun character and I loved seeing the two of them in their Daddy/boy roles, they fit perfectly together. Thorne being annoyed whenever Toby called him daddy was funny too, you could literally just imagine him rolling his eyes each time it happened lol. I wasn't really expecting all the extra drama in the story either with the band mates and the stalker, which was all an added interesting twist. And the pregnancy aspect didn't overshadow the entire story either, it wasn’t really at the forefront of this book. But Thorne taking charge and stepping into the real role of Daddy was nice to see and I liked how that all turned out. Oh, and Toby's "rat" dog Ruffles was an awesome add to the story, I loved his dog and the interactions everyone had with him, it was super cute.

Well, this was an interesting departure from the norm I've come to expect from daddy kink. I didn't actually feel the daddy/boy dynamic--it read as more of a boyfriends thing. There wasn't any sexual tension or buildup to getting the relationship off the ground. It sort of just happened, mostly because Toby was already pregnant from a blackout gang bang and Thorne wanted to protect his reputation and, since he was already hired to be his daddy, why not marry?

I liked the story but it wasn't overly challenging or stimulating and TBH often was quite bizarre, but it's a nice book for those who like mpeg and don't want to have in-depth sex scenes or a complex plot.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I always love a good Alpha/Omega story and throw in some kink and it makes it even better. Toby knows he needs someone to help keep himself on track, especially after his manager suggests it, and by coincidence sees the ad almost immediately following he jumps at it. Thorne is tired and hasn’t had anyone to actually be his boy in so long but even just seeing how Toby immediately acts for him he knows there is no way he can walk away.

Toby is so lost and hasn’t had anyone actually care about or for him in so long. Other than the one example of his partying, it doesn’t seem as if he is quite as bad as they make out, just a bit scatterbrained. It’s easy to see why he quickly takes to the Daddy lifestyle and how much Thorne quickly comes to mean to him. Thorne tries to keep an emotional distance from Toby but once he actually comes to him with his fears he can’t really do it anymore and they both get the chance to see what they really mean to each other.

Now, Toby’s parents, I had trouble with the interactions with them. They kept him at such a distance for so long and after they accuse Toby of horrible things they quickly change their tune and are suddenly involved with his life and seem to care. I don’t know, how things worked with them didn’t work for me and I have trouble with sudden changes in feelings/actions.

2.5 ⭐

Fun, short read but as all the Susi Hawke I tried to read there was so much tell and zero show and it got me quite frustrated 🥲

The MC literally got kidnapped, brought somewhere, tied to a chair, escaped and got back to the love interest off page and we learn about it by his briefly explaining what happened to the police 🤦‍♀️

I'll give the second one in the series a shot since I'm intrigued by the dynamic reversal but I'm not holding my breath 🙃

2.5 stars, rounding out to 2

Well, I finished this.
First the positive:
1. It was fast. I read it in 2 sittings.
2. The relationship was healthy and the BDSM aspect was fairly healthy, except for that one scene in the beginning without aftercare.
3. There were a few funny jokes "the proverbial silver spoon - we're not actually born with it, it's gifted to us"... aaaand that's pretty much it.

It was... not very good. Mostl,y it reads like it needs another draft. The pacing is just way too fast, and the scenes are too... You don't really stay with any scene for any amount of time to make you feel anything. There's too much dialogue and not enough description, inner thoughts, setting, and emotion. The book doesn't breathe. Except the Thorne scene in the beginning, where it was ALL inner thoughts, and I started to feel he was contradicting himself. The sexy scenes were also not that sexy, at least to me. Too fast, not enough space to develop the relationship.

The writing also felt a bit try-hard, just trying so hard to be "hip" and "with the youths", and it was really unnatural. (I don't like the word 'cringey' but well... that.)

And not to be gender essentialist, but I could tell this book was not written by a gay man. A lot of these books. They read like a straight woman's vague understanding of gay men, rather than anything that actually resembles real-life gay people.

To be clear, this is not the worst thing I have read. It's pretty addictive and very short, and there were a few funny jokes, but ... meh.

One last thing. I really don't like the fact that Toby getting back on his adhd meds is somehow seen as a bad thing??? The book promotes lifestyle changes over meds, which... no. Take your meds, kids!

So this was ok. It had a few cute moments and I kind of liked the characters but the story was meh and so much felt way too rushed and a lot of situations felt so wrong. Like e.g. the situation with Tobys parents, who switched from cold to loving parents in a heartbeat.
Also I was expecting much more steam and the steam we got wasn’t even that great.

I was skeptical when I started this, but soon as I knew Toby (he's so a diva), and he did need Thorne in his messy life.
I enjoyed the 'relationship' between Thorne and Toby from the beginning, and how Thorne automatically hired himself soon as he saw how unorganized Toby's life.
There's a little drama in Toby's daily life. Well I think it happens in some celebrities life?
Good thing Toby have someone to protect him and someone he can depend on to.
It really was a sweet romance. I think I enjoyed it the most because, I read it on my lazy weekend.
So yeah, you'll probably want to savor this story, while I'm waiting for the next installment! :)

I was expecting Daddy kink, spanking, accidental pregnancy, and the cute insta romance I’ve grown to love from Piper Scott’s Egg-preg series.

This is that but it also isn’t.

Like despite the fact that the Omega MC requests a “Daddy” the Alpha insists that the title is too intimate so he’s called “Master” for the most part. I personally hate that title so that was disappointing. Then a lot of the spanking happens off page (not all but most). The baby isn’t the Alphas because at the time that they find out about the baby these two haven’t had sex or even kissed yet I think! There’s just very little intimacy and then suddenly they’re getting married for convenience but they’re both saying I love you. It was just too much, too fast, but also not enough. I never felt the connection between them.

I DNF’d at 80% because it’s a fast read and I kept hoping it’d turn around for me but once the L word came up I had to stop. If I was rating it it’d probably be a 2⭐️ just because it was so messy.

On a whim Toby hires a Dom to help him get control of this life. He is constantly late, forgetful, and spending too much time partying. All of this is starting to have an impact on a contract with a music label. Thorne shows up and quickly straightens out Toby's life.

I enjoyed Toby with all his sass and happy outlook. He can be a little oblivious, but he is trying and just can't seem to get a handle on things. With Thorne's help, and a few spankings, he is making good progress and then is thrown a curve and discovers that he is pregnant.

The stalker storyline was pretty obvious and the largest part of that story happened off page and did not really mesh with the rest of the story.

While there are no big surprises in the book, you can't help rooting for Toby because he is just so much fun.

I'm a little put off that with Toby's level of add, and how much it derails his life that Daddy Thorne didn't go with the message that there is nothing wrong with taking medication if you need it.

The relationship was cute. I wish there'd been more intimacy between the two mcs. I felt Thorne almost spent more time building a working repitoir with Toby's pet dog. I didn't want to leave the book, I just wanted more intimacy, more talking, just more. Toby felt so spaced out most of the time he wasn't able to build an actual relationship with his new daddy. I want to read the rest of the series, I just need a little more TLC.

I don't think I've read this author before and was pleasantly surprised with this little read. I'm also really enjoying the non shifter, alpha/omega books which is what this is. Toby is the omega with what appears to be severe ADD or ADHD (I'm no expert so not sure) and Thorne is the Alpha who is also for "rent" to help omegas in need. Toby hires him and I found the whole beginning of their relationship quite funny. This was just a really fun read with a few twists and turns and just enough going on to keep things interesting. Will definitely read the next one soon.

Toby is a musician who's career is on the rise. He needs a Daddy dom to keep him in line and out of the tabloids.
He answers an advert to find himself a dom. Thorne becomes his dom and quickly gets Toby's life in order with his rules and structure.
Thorne looks out for Toby and has his best interests at heart. He proves time and time again that he's on Toby's side in an environment where others are not.
"Oh, my. He was taking my heart one tiny piece at a time. If I wasn't careful, he'd own it completely before we were done."
I really enjoyed this quick, sweet read.

A great start to a new series. I really enjoyed the storyline and am looking forward to more in this series. Thorne is exactly what Toby needs in his life. Thorne centers Toby and makes his life so much better. I love how Thorne takes charge and really cares about Toby and helps him with every aspect of his life, even his career. Love them as a couple and Ruffles is just too cute! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

This is a light, fun and entertaining book that I really enjoyed. The characters are great but it's not really a daddy/boy relationship which disappointed me as I was looking forward to that. I like how Thorne helps Toby organise his life but it feels like he is more of a life coach than a Dom. Toby is sweet but pretty clueless when it comes to his band and his personal safety. They don't really have much of a connection or chemistry between them but they are cute together. The stalker and problems within his band cause some angst for Toby but luckily Thorne is there to take care of him. Some of the secondary characters are interesting and it would be great if they show up later in the series. I like the ending and I look forward to reading the next book in this new series.

I’ve really been trying to expand the diversity in what genres and such I’ve been reading, and this was one of those excursions. The writing style was fine, but literally the entire book was so detached and uncohesive. Very bizarre, I felt like I was reading poorly plotted fanfiction.

This bordered on being absurd for me. Let me elaborate (rant incoming) :

It was a little too much. There is mpreg, an out-of-control musician, 'daddy' kink, an overly caricatured antagonist, a stalker. All in one book. Also, there was a few too many "Boy"s sprinkled in there for me to keep a straight face.

SPOILER WARNING:

The relationship: I never felt the MCs personalities, nor did I feel a connection between them. It's straight from business arrangement to love. Also, why call Thorne a daddy when he was more like a lifestyle coach with dominating tendencies? As someone who has read their fair share of daddy kink, this book fell a off the wagon for me.

The stalker: I get the need for added drama, but then why have it all happening off page? Why not hear about the kidnapning from Toby's POV as it is happening rather than through Thorne as Toby tells the story.

The antagonist: The storyline with Tommy was legit enough, but his whole character was too caricatured for me to take him and the conflict seriously.

I understand that Alpha-omega /mpreg dynamics are often a little far fetched in terms of realism, but this was too much for me.
