Eine unterhaltsame und leicht verrückte Liebesgeschichte mit vielen Verwicklungen und noch mehr Missverständnissen.
Es geht um Daisy, die an Weihnachten in der Notaufnahme landet, da sie eine im Weihnachtspuddig versteckte Münze verschluckt hat. Außerdem hat sie gerade eine Trennung hinter sich und im Job läuft es auch nicht gut...
Im Krankenhaus trifft sie auf einen sehr gutaussehenden Arzt, der ihr im Laufe des Buches noch öfter begegnen wird...
Ich mochte die Geschichte. Sie hat mich sehr gut unterhalten können, allerdings darf man sie wohl nicht so ernst nehmen. Die Missverständnisse hier im Buch - von denen gibt es einige - sind so offensichtlich, dass es nicht mehr glaubhaft ist. Und trotzdem... Eigentlich stört mich so etwas, aber hier hat es irgendwie gepasst.
Es passte zur Geschichte, zu den Figuren und ich mochte die Entwicklungen, die daraus entstanden sind.
Und obwohl das Cover des Buches und auch der Titel recht weihnachtlich sind, hat die Geschichte eigentlich keine weihnachtliche Atmosphäre. Die Geschichte spielt zwar zur Weihnachtszeit, aber das ist eigentlich nebensächlich.

This is a festive read by Lilac Mills that is warm, funny and ever so slightly bonkers. Thirty year old Daisy Jones is expecting to get engaged to Freddie, the boyfriend that she has been living with, as Christmas approaches. However, life has other plans for her, when they break up and Daisy finds herself having to move back in with her mum, Sandra and her grandmother, Elsie. In sharp contrast, Daisy's younger brother David is living in his home that he conscientiously saved up for and is married to Zoe. He is the perfect son, and Daisy is markedly resentful and jealous of his more ordered life and career as a dentist. As Daisy expects, she gets little sympathy for her break up from her mum and grandmother, as neither have found men to be either reliable or trustworthy. Daisy's great grandmother, Gee-Gee, thinks an old sixpence placed in a Christmas pudding will bring Daisy the luck she needs as her life falls apart.
To Daisy's dismay, she chokes and swallows the sixpence, and David has to rush her to the A and E department in hospital where she is treated by the good looking Dr Noah Hartley. Daisy is convinced that the sixpence which she has to wait to pass through her body is bringing her anything but good luck and more worryingly, the cursed bad luck appears to be infecting her family members too. After being sacked by the card company that employs her for using the internet for her own personal affairs, she is forced to consider other job possibilities. Daisy keeps bumping into Noah at the hospital as Zoe has desperate problems in her pregnancy and David suffers from multiple breaks in his leg after a car accident. This is a heartwarming story of gaffes, misunderstandings, coincidences, slapstick humour and an unexpected romance that is to have Daisy reconsidering whether that sixpence in the Christmas pudding was so unlucky after all.
Lilac Mills writes a lovely festive tale of Daisy Jones and her haphazard life, where so much goes wrong for her that you really feel for her. However, as the narrative progresses, so many wonderful things happen, Daisy's poor opinion of her air head sister in law, Zoe, shifts remarkably as she gets to know her better and discovers just how supportive and wonderful she is. She comes to view her ex-boyfriend, Freddie, in a more sympathetic light, and a new job does wonders for her self esteem as it exceeds her expectations. More satisfyingly, the injustices Daisy suffered are redressed. The biggest gift, of course, is her growing relationship and love for Noah, although it is littered with obstacles. This is great escapist fare, packed with comic moment after comic moment, and so thoroughly entertaining. Many thanks to Canelo for an ARC.

Finally, I had my hands on a Lilac Mills book and it was everything that I expected. A cute and lovely Christmas romance with lots of banter and hilarious misunderstandings. I won't trade places with Daisy even for the happy ending, but you know what they say, everything is laughable when it's not about you.
Daisy is an amazing character and because of the blurb I have foreseen that breakup with Freddie, but the reason was shocking and I couldn't help but break into a laugh. Well, that was before her 'loving', all women (except for the darling brother) family is introduced. Hmph, fortune's ways are not smooth at all, even at Christmas.
Then there are all those hospital encounters which have me chuckling even now. And that was only just the beginning of mischiefs a single silver sixpence could trigger.
An amazing, sweet but quirky romance that you wouldn't want to miss this Christmas . . .

Daisy wasn’t having the best luck, but the ruddy silver sixpence certainly didn’t help. It all started when she came home to find her boyfriend, Freddie, in bed with another man, forcing her to move back home with her mother and grandmother. With Christmas around the corner, familial tensions quickly start boiling over. However, she makes a genuine effort for peace, even going so far as to making her great grandmother’s recipe for Christmas pudding—adding in a silver sixpence for good luck. Unfortunately, eating too quickly, she chokes on the coin and has to be rushed to the local A&E where she’s greeted by the dreamy Dr. Hartley … and that’s when her luck really starts to change.
Well, this book started off with me glad I wasn’t in Daisy’s shoes. The first few pages are incredibly rough, and it only goes downhill from there for a time. Fortunately, author Lilac Mills handles these scenes with a bit of a wink to the reader. At times, she seems to even relish in the misfortunes of her main character simply because of the sheer volume of bad things that happen to her. However, it’s a Christmas romance after all, and it’s apparent her fortune will shift by the end.
Before she gets there, though, the suffering piles on and a lot of it is pretty funny. The Christmas dinner scene at the beginning is a completely chaotic mess and relatable. It’s topped by Daisy’s choking on the sixpence piece. I won’t spoil everything, but the results of that incident crop up over and over in increasingly hilarious and fresh ways.
This book is light on romance, which isn’t a problem, but should be noted. Noah Hartley is a great foil for Daisy, and their progression together is a highlight. One common trope in the book is the use of miscommunication. Characters hear what they want to hear and make vast leaps to conclusions. At first, I found this slightly frustrating. However, Mills sets the stage for poor communication early and it makes sense for these characters. If Daisy didn’t realize her longtime boyfriend was gay and that she didn’t actually love him anyway, then it seems reasonable she would have communication problems.
And I do want to give special praise to Lilac Mills for her handling of the gay ex storyline. Plenty of other authors inadvertently demonize characters like this or play into awkward stereotypes. That doesn’t happen here, and I was pleased with how tastefully it was handled.
It’s a fun and festive romance with some bite, perfect for Christmas.

4 - "It all started with the sixpence..." Stars!
My second read by Lilac Mills was as enjoyable as the first, with the added bonus that it was a Christmas book. A Very Lucky Christmas had me laughing out loud at regular intervals, as Daisy Jones negotiates her life and the many disasters that befalls it during one seasonal period.
She was thirty, single, and living back at home with her mum…
A relatively quick read, I think the main reason I enjoyed it so much was a lot of the bad luck that befalls Daisy, and a lot of the familial situations that occur are things you as the reader can relate to. Romance wasn’t really the main priority in this one until the latter stages of the book, and that was the only downside for me as I felt the connection between Daisy and Noah was a little tenuous, in relation to the amount of page time they actually spent together.

But Daisy, and her family themselves were a fully fleshed out unit. And that was where the main focus of the story was for me, and where I derived the most enjoyment.
Ideal if you are looking for a little light reading entertainment over the Christmas period, and another winner from this author for me!

Initially I didn't warm to Daisy but she kept getting better and better as the story progressed. She had me in stitches laughing in many of the scenes with Dr Hartley (finally getting to know his name is Noah). Noah and Daisy get each other so wrong at first jumping to so many hilariously wrong conclusions. A great read once you get into it.

A Very Lucky Christmas was a nice, quick read.
This Christmas Daisy Jones seems haunted by bad luck, but like you said "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and stronger she becomes.
It was fun to follow her journey, reading about all her misfortune and how she handled them.
Daisy and her family are a funny group of characters, I've enjoyed their bantering even if at times they are too chaotic.
It was Christmas in July and I did need some cold air.

This is my first venture into reading a book written by this author. Christmas is supposed to be the happiest time of year right? Why then is everything going wrong for Daisy. She has a devastating breakup with her boyfriend and while she's still reeling from that she's let go from her long time job. It couldn't possibly get any worse than having to move back home at age 30 could it? But........... well, yes it could. When Gran insists she put a silver six pence in the Christmas pudding for luck, things go from bad to worse and she ends up in A & E. This book was hilarious and had me actually laughing out loud at the hilarious mishaps and misunderstandings in this heartwarming holiday read. Just what I needed to read today!

This fun Christmas romance has it all: a cheating boyfriend, family drama, backstabbing "friend", and even a few trips to the hospital. Just when it looks like things couldn't get worse, they do, again and again. When an ill-fated attempt at improving her luck back-fires, Daisy heads down a hilarious path of misadventure. Will an unlikely love interest turn things around for Daisy in new year? If you enjoy a holiday love story that isn't overly Christmasy, this one is for you.

Thirty year old Daisy Jones is happy and the fiancé of Freddie, her boyfriend who she lives with. It's the run up to Christmas and life should be peachy, right? Wrong.
Daisy's festive preparations are interrupted when she and Freddie break up when she finds him in bed with another man. This is definitely not what she expected.
This is a wake up call of the worst kind for Daisy and the last thing she needs at this time of year. Daisy finds herself forced to move back in with her mum, Sandra and her grandmother, Elsie. Daisy,and her younger brother David, a dentist, are living completely different lives. He and his wife Zoe live in a house he saved up for long and hard.
With Daisy's family, especially her mother and grandmother being severely lacking in sympathy and support for Daisy's new situation due to they themselves not trusting men, Daisy feels far from great.
Inevitably, there's a moment when they must have a Christmas meal. During this, Daisy's Gran suggests planting a sixpence in the Christmas pudding.
A short while later, Daisy is in A&E and being treated by a handsome doctor. Is he the answer to her problems in life?
A Very Lucky Christmas was SO funny and true-to-life. I automatically liked Daisy and identified with her in her enthusiasm for shopping and pampering. The Christmas preparation and atmosphere was so cosily and accurately described that I wanted to be there with Daisy. The family situation and how they acted was so realistic too.
When things started to go wrong for Daisy, I felt angry at Freddie and was glad Daisy got out of the situation as soon as possible. I was also glad her family was there for her and she was able to go back to her mum's. I identified with the feeling of feeling less than family members or starting to compare oneself.
This book had a romantic theme yet was very Christmas-orientated and, I felt, the best of both worlds. It has humour, realism, great character development and really made me feel for Daisy. I was cheering her on and would have loved to have been Christmas shopping with her.
A Very Lucky Christmas is everything a good Christmas book should be, heartwarming, hilarious and true-to-life. The atmosphere is amazing. Christmas decorations, the very English feel of the Christmas meal, and even the air freshener smelt festive. The book oozes Christmas charm and mishaps in equal measure and the cover is absolutely GORGEOUS. Eye-catching and colourful. I'm always ficusing on covers before choosing a novel and this just said REVIEW ME! I am glad I did.
Lilac Mills writes in a way which makes her words flow off the page and she gets right to the heart of the characters and their relationships and the desceiptions of the Christmas tree, decorations and excitement over wrapping gifts resonated with me as, no matter how many years pass, I am like a big kid when it comes to Christmas. I was relishing in the book.

This is like a comedy of errors, full of gaffes, humour and -eventually- true love. Daisy Jones was expecting her boyfriend to propose this Christmas but they end up splitting up and she moves back in with her mother and gran. Her great-gran says she needs to make a Christmas pudding and guides her in making it. However, when eating it, Daisy chokes on the ‘lucky’ sixpence and ends up being rushed to A&E. That’s where she’s treated by Dr Noah Hartley . . . . Somehow they keep meeting but discovering the secret of her ex, losing her job, moving back to her Mother’s home . . . . comparing herself to her “perfect” brother .... there are lots of changes for Daisy but will that sixpence prove to be very lucky or the portent of an even more disastrous year?

This wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I found the main character Daisy just a little too gullible and didn't think things through and the rest of her family were no better. I guessed the outcome of this story very quickly.

Lilac Mills gives us a very funny Christmas romance with this one. I can't count how many times I was laughing out loud while reading this book. The characters just had a way with their humor that made you want to read more to see what they were going to come up with next. Very well done!
Daisy is a young lady that is in a relationship that she thinks is ready to move to the next level. Apparently though her boyfriend is not on the same level as Daisy in his thinking with that. Daisy was expecting a ring instead of finding her boyfriend with another man. Daisy immediately moves back in with her mom, but her grandmother is living there as well now. They all give Daisy a hard time. When Daisy's great grandmother comes over for dinner one day, she tells Daisy that she is going to tell her how to make an old recipe of Christmas pudding and that she has to put a silver sixpence in the pudding for it to be good luck. Well, Daisy makes the pudding and as she is eating it, ends up chocking on the sixpence. Her sister-in-law is there to help her when she is chocking. Daisy's brother insists on her going to the A&E to make sure that everything is ok.
Daisy is so embarrassed that she is in A&E the first place, but when a hunky doctor walks in and tells Daisy that she is going to have to check her bowel movements for several days to make sure that she passes the sixpence, she is mortified. This whole lucky sixpence thing has quickly become the unlucky sixpence.
Daisy's sister-in-law calls her one day and says that she is in the A&E and needs her to come be with her because her brother is out of town. She is pregnant and thinks she is loosing the baby. Daisy finally gets in touch with her brother after getting to the A&E and he ends up having an accident on his way to the A&E. Daisy has got to find a way to get this sixpence out of her system and away from her as quick as possible.
Things go on and there are lots of misunderstandings by Daisy and the hunky doctor at the A&E. This is where is gets pretty comical. When things are figured out and everyone is good to go, Noah decides that he wants to try his luck with Daisy. You will have to read this one to find out how things go between Noah and Daisy. Will it be more misunderstandings or will they hit it off, or both?
This was a good Christmas read but was not over the top with Christmas stuff. It gave you just enough but I feel this one could be read any time of the year. I am anxious to go back and read others from Lilac Mills now that I have read this one. Great job!

Lilac Mills has learned the arduous art of captivating her audiences’ attention and keeping us riveted until the very end wanting more. A Very Lucky Christmas was comical yet romantic; quirky yet entertaining. I genuinely enjoy the characters and their development. Zoe surprised me as an enterprising intellectual and I loved the interesting addition to the plot her character provided. Thanks to ‘a Very Lucky Christmas, I’ll be on the lookout for Lilac Mills’ other pieces. Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of reading and reviewing this novel.

I'd previously read Lilac Mills' other novel Love in The City by the Sea and really enjoyed it, when I saw the cover revels of Lilac's other novels I was really eager to read more by this author. This cover certainly didn't disappoint, I adore the Christmas pudding in the centre (oh the relevance!) and of course the snowy scene out the window, the candles, crackers and the baubles just make for an extra festive and just beautiful cover! It's just so twinkly and pretty!
On to the story itself, it was just as good as the cover! From the off I was so drawn in to the storylines and the characters. I was eager to find out what was going on, and although I didn't twig what Freddie was up to at first, I soon caught up with what was going on when Daisy showed up at Freddie's house early! To say I couldn't believe it would be an understatement! As well as this, I actually found parts of the scene quite funny (although this is obviously meant to be an emotional and heart wrenching moment for Daisy), Carl in particular had me laughing with his sass and attitude - and the dress that Freddie was using to cover himself - don't get me started! Ha!
I felt really sorry for Daisy throughout this novel though, I know that Daisy's mum, nan and great-nan were probably meant to come across in more of a jokey way but I felt really sorry for Daisy and felt that she was being picked on by her family quite a bit. There was only a few moments when her family were nice to her which made me feel quite sad indeed! With regards to the other characters, I liked Noah, he seemed quite gentlemanly and really nice! Some of the conversations in this novel actually had me laughing out loud. There were quite a few times where a conversation would take place but one character would get the wrong end of the stick, ending in more confusion and more laughter from me!
Overall, this novel was funny, full of laughs and in moments quite heart-warming. I really liked the character of Daisy and felt her to be quite relatable. I wouldn't say it was overly festive, as Christmas takes place nearer the beginning of the novel, it's more a story about something that takes place on Christmas Day and the effects it has afterwards. I have to be completely honest and say that I have never heard of this author! Even though, when I have looked her up, Lilac Mills has written so many books of exactly the kind that I would read! This author has slipped under my radar in stealth mode and I will certainly be going and reading more of her books in the future.
This book definitely gets you straight into the Christmas spirit before you open it with its fabulously festive cover! The blurb makes it sound like the kind of book that was right up my street, and I was keen to get started on this one. Everything is going wrong for Daisy Jones this Christmas! Trouble at work and having to move back in with her parents after a break up is made worse by a trip to A&E when Daisy chokes on a sixpence in her great-grandmother’s Christmas Pud! But are things looking up for Daisy when she is treated by dishy doctor, Noah Hartley?

Being the obvious romance that it is, you know where the story is going,but I really enjoyed Daisy and Noah’s story-line and you certainly couldn’t help feeling sorry for Daisy throughout the book for her sheer bad luck!
It was such an easy read, no complicated story-lines and everything just flowed so well. I was carried away on a festive story of fun, laughter and love and found myself speeding through the pages as it was so enjoyable. This would be a most welcome present in someone’s Christmas stocking or failing that just read it yourself, curled up under a blanket with a big hot chocolate!

It seems I'm alone on this, but 2 stars means I regret the time I spent reading this book. This was an unpleasant surprise, as I have enjoyed the author's other books so far. The first 60% of the book is spent describing the bloody awful things that happen to the heroine, either through her own stupidity, or others' stupidity or nastiness, or just plain bad luck. After the first 3 chapters I pretty much skimmed most of the book until the end, and I didn't even enjoy that much. There was so much that could have been done with the characters, and wasn't, and in the end they live happily every after anyway (because of course, it's a romance, don't you know). :-(

I loved this book! The characters are such fun and so fantastic to get to know. A sequel would be fantastic! This book is hilarious and heart warming. The series of events is absolutely sublime - a couple of tear jerking moments along the way but more laughs than sadness. This will not be the last book I read by this author!

Jingle Bells Kiss war am Anfang absolut nicht meins. Viel zu viele Klischees zu Schönheitsidealen und dem Verhalten einer Frau ihrem Mann gegenüber. Daisy verbiegt sich total für ihren Freund Freddie und für mich war es echt unangenehm das zu lesen.
Ich beschloss dennoch dem Buch erstmal eine Chance zu geben.
Doch auch mit dem Schreibstil des Buches konnte ich mich nicht so richtig anfreunden. Er wirkt viel zu kindlich und gewollt für diese eher leichte und erwachsene Geschichte.
Außerdem wird Daisy während der ganzen Geschichte nur runtergemacht. Von sich selbst, weil sie sich mit ihrem perfekten Bruder vergleich, von ihrer Mutter, ihrer Großmutter und ihrem dann Ex-Freund.
Puh. Nee. Dieses Buch hat mir echt nicht gefallen. Ich breche sonst nie Bücher ab aber hier musste ich leider nach 10 Kapiteln sagen, dass es nicht mehr geht.

Daisy's life is a disaster she has split up with her boyfriend and had to move back in with get mother and then to add insult to injury she swallows the sixpence from the Christmas pudding and ends ip in A and E.......... but actually maybe things are looking up when she is treated by Noah the rather gorgeous doctor!
A lovely warm festive book which is as much comedy as romance and great to curl up in front of the fire with

This was a cute Christmas rom-com, not laugh out loud funny, but there were some funny moments. I especially liked the misunderstandings when she first met Dr. Noah. I did find some of the toilet humor to be a bit much.
Daisy's life is a total mess, but she doesn't wallow much, so I couldn't help but like her. It's fairly predictable, but it's pretty much what I expected in a holiday rom-com.

December 18, 2018Enjoyed this book from start to finish. Daisy really doesn't have much luck, with some hilarious consequences. Her misunderstandings with Dr Hartley were amusing, although perhaps a little tedious after they just kept on happening. I really liked Daisy's character and the writing style was a perfect compliment to her personality. Haven't read anything by Lilac Mills before but will definitely be wanting to read more in the future!
