Non-fiction. I felt that this book was poorly written. At times even confusing. I have read quite a few books on Biblical prophecy, and so I have familiarity with the subject matter. Still, it took me a while to catch on to his "now" prophecies logic because of the terminology he is using. I also thought that there were many redundancies -- and the flow of the book didn't enhance the clarity of the subject. I got more out of reading the appendixes which discussed the subject more logically than the text material.
This is book 5/11 in Bill Salus' eschatology series. It deals with what Bill describes as the NOW prophecies (which are all the prophecies that need to occur according to the Bible before the rapture occurs).
This is a well written book with an easy reading style. There are plenty of end notes / bibliography / appendices for deeper dives into the content as appropriate.
With the unsettling stories in the Middle East continually in the forefront of the news cycle, it seems that many of the events prophesied in the Bible are in the process of being fulfilled right before our eyes. Over the years, I’ve compared the many different interpretations of these prophecies with the Biblical record and frankly I’ve not been totally satisfied with the results.
Into this mix Bill Salus offers a new book entitled The Now Prophecies. This book looks at some of the more important prophecies related to the destruction of Damascus, the final Israeli-Arab war, current events in Iran, and the decline of America. In this book Mr. Salus takes, what is to my knowledge, a unique approach to organizing these prophecies into a congruent interpretive framework. Mr. Salus’ framework is as follows:
1. The NOW Prophecies 2. The NEXT Prophecies 3. The LAST Prophecies
According to Mr. Salus the NOW prophecies “spans the period of time existing between the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel, which happened in 1948, and the fulfillment of the Ezekiel 38 and 39 prophecies…” which Mr. Salus explains are the NEXT prophecies.
I must admit to feeling a little bit lost while reading this book. The NOW Prophecies is the first book I’ve read by Mr. Salus and it became apparent to me that I missed much of the necessary background information explained in his other books, Psalm 83, The Missing Prophecy Revealed and Israelstine: The Ancient Blueprints of the Future Middle East. So if this is your first book by Mr. Salus I’d definitely recommend you first read his other books before you dig into this one.
Admittedly, I have not reached an understanding of the subject with which I am completely comfortable. This is the 2nd book I’ve read recently discussing the Gog-Magog prophecies of Ezekiel 38-39 occurring before the final tribulation (Douglas Woodward’s: The Next Great War in the Middle East being the other book) and I can’t shake the thought that many of interpretational challenges that both authors raise might better be solve by seeing the events of Gog-Magog as occurring after the millennial reign of Yeshua. To be sure this is a minority opinion but this approach would allow us to take the burying of the wooden weapons of war at face value as well as the statement of Israel living in un-walled villages. Also it might explain why Gog-Magog comes to take spoil, after all Jerusalem will be receiving tribute from all the nations of the world during the Millennium.
In any case, even though I am not totally convinced by Mr. Salus’ arguments presented in this book and I do have other disagreements I enjoyed reading it and seeing the subject through his eyes. To be fair to Mr. Salus I came into this discussion not totally understanding the complete context of his arguments for Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38 & 39 so this deficit on my part I’ll have to remedy by reading his other books before I am willing to make a more definitive conclusion regarding his interpretations.
In closing I will say that the final two chapters of this book are critically important for every Christian to read regardless of how you believe events in the Middle East will shake out in the coming days and years. The time is NOW for Christian’s to prepare to meet the coming Messiah.
Excellent summary of the various prophecies concerning the Middle East.
What is special about Bill's work is he's very detail oriented and precise. He has researched well the names of ancient places and peoples and provides them in coherent summaries.
I had the pleasure of talking with him about a few prophetic passages and I greatly admired his attention to details that most generally gloss over or simply ignore. An example of that is in Ezekiel 38 and 39. We were talking about those chapters and when they might take place and he pointed out that Psalm 83 and other passages would likely need to take place first because there are currently walled villages inside of Israel. Most others, including myself, just kind of overlooked that, thinking that mention applied more to the walls of ancient Jerusalem. But his point is valid and when he explains in this book, and in Psalm 83, what will likely take place to remove those walls, well... the prophetic Word becomes even more clear.
He is an excellent researcher and a careful student of the Word of God. I was so blessed to have been able to hear him speak at the World View Conference here in Seattle in 2018 and talk with him personally about these prophecies. The NOW prophecies are a great place to start to understand the remaining prophecies prior to the tribulation period. Psalm 83, Jeremiah 49, Isaiah 17 and ultimately Ezekiel 38 and 39 which will likely be the start of the tribulation, because of the references to the burning of the weapons for seven years. Bill's careful analysis is laid out in his books and opens up the Word to see what's coming. He signed one of the books I picked up from him with these verses: Isa 46:9 "Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Isa 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure';
Quick read. Good synopsis of prophecies that should be fulfilled in short order with possible order of events. Sound research that shows how these events build to create the conditions necessary for the NEXT set of prophecies, ie the Ezekiel 38-39 war.
Lots of facts but toes the dispensation theological line heard him and many of his references speak so forme not a lot of new info but still lots of info and a good refreshing of the material
It took me a long time to finish this book. I lost interest half way through and pushed myself to finish. It was well organized but too much repeat of information.
This book provides the "Live or Die" required information for the times we live in. The chronological prophecies that must be played out in the end times, are presented in an easy to understand manner. The reader is impressed with the most important decision in his or her life. Make no mistake, time is running out. Read the book.
