A shadow war is coming—and only Brady Hawk can stop it.
Deep in the Changbai Mountains of North Korea, a team of government hackers have unleashed an attack on U.S. politicians, throwing the entire country’s political system into upheaval.
In an effort to stay above the partisan fray, the CIA engages the Phoenix Foundation’s elite response team to halt the attacks and restore order to Washington.
Led Brady Hawk, the team quickly discovers that the assault on the Senate’s servers is just the beginning. And while they work to uncover who’s behind everything and why, they get a tip about Obsidian and a U.S. Navy admiral who appears to be secretly working with the Chinese government—an alliance that would make the U.S. vulnerable in an unstable time.

THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.
In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.
After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.
I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!
But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.
After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.
I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
Captain Kudrati hired men to plunder a specific Chinese boat, now having military weapons on board, that are only sold through the black market. A war that is waged against everyone, everywhere, he replied. Sniper takes him out, he was the first good lead they had, that had connection to Obsidian. Hawk and Alex have a meeting with Blunt. Telling them it is a problem that has far reaching consequences, a cyber attack. Fontenot, is up for re-election, keep your eyes on him. Senators are being targeted to step down also. The hackers causing this are from North Korea, go and find the leaks. Al Hasib has a new leader and devastating news for Hawk. Interesting to see how Hawk and Alex work together.A problem that only Hawk can fix, I found it intriguing to the end. They are full of non stop action from the beginning to the end. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
The Phoenix Foundation’s newest threat makes their former nemesis, Al Hasib, look like amateurs. Obsidian is planning on gaining world control and its tentacles reach into the highest government levels in just about every country in the world. Brady Hawk and Alex join another Phoenix asset, Titus Black, to discover the threat and eliminate it. What they find is a plot to unleash a virus capable killing at least a billion people — Obsidian’s thought being that fewer people makes things easier to control.
Patterson builds the plot and pacing with meticulous care while inserting snippets of Brady and Alex’s adjustment to married life as teasing banter. This formula works and as long as Patterson keeps refining it, I’ll keep reading. Good job!
A true page turner! Mr. Patterson has created another spellbinding Brady Hawk thriller. This story was filled to the brim with action, plot twists and intrigue. Interestingly enough, this type scenario could be playing out in today’s world and just like in this story the majority of the population would have no clue it was occurring. I fully anticipate the next Brady Hawk story to be just as action filled or even more. If you are a Brady Hawk fan grab a copy and clear your schedule for a day, if you are new to Brady Hawk, welcome aboard, this is an excellent introduction to these stories. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
An extremely powerful organization that is secretive, immensely wealthy with it's followers dispersed into powerful positions in government's and corporations throughout the world is ready to disperse a deadly virus that could kill millions. There end game? Control. Of everything. Brady Hawk and two other agents of a presidential sanctioned, ultra secretive team are dispatched to eliminate the threat. This is an extremely fast paced novel and a magnificent read! Enjoyed immensely!
Wonderful read. A great team working together can could consistently move like this to protect the people. It is a shame regular people as well as government persons can be Bushwact into doing their bidding. Terrorists are duping people involved without consequences. The team works endlessly to bring the bad guys to pay for their crimes.
The concept and development of Brady Hawk is compelling. However, due to sentence structure (lack of proof reading evidenced), I find myself stumbling through each book. Annoying
This story keeps you bound to page turning until you think you have figured out what is next. You're wrong again. It always goes the opposite way not saving everyone.
Relevant related news issues with solid resolve around the globe. Still written with basic family relationships as key. Style , action , intrigue— fun to read
Obsidian's reach is unbelievable! The team doesn't know who to trust. Al Hasib is a boy scout troop compared to the newest and latest threat to the World!
