Huge fan of the ongoing webtoon which is based on this series. I had to know what happened next and ended up reading through the entire 13 books in less then a week. Granted its an easy read.
“This isn't a coincidence or good will. This is what the system needs. A strong Sung Jin-Woo.”
Solo Leveling is about Sung Jin-Woo, an E-rank Hunter, also known as the “World’s Weakest”. Even though he was really weak, he has to earn money by fighting in low-leveled dungeons therefore endangering himself to be able to care for his sister and to pay for his mother's medical bills. During one of the raids, they encountered a Double Dungeon which resulted to him almost dying but was saved due to receiving a strange power.
This is the first light novel (or light novels in this case, 14 to be exact) I’ve ever read and I can say that I have no regrets. Originally, the manga version of this book/s was referred by my brother who usually never reads. I gave it a try and became hook with the story and drawing style, but since the manga is still ongoing then light novel it is.
I loved the plot of the story being from zero to OP (overpowered) MC. Although he did receive an ability which made him so strong, you could still see how his powers developed over time. I also loved that the author avoided doing some of those clichéd elements of this genre such as:
the MC having a harem (he did have girls liking him but you can see that he’s not entertaining them)
the system which the MC uses is not over complicated (it is pretty straightforward with leveling up)
the MC is a Mary Sue (meaning the main character was not perfect)
I also loved how the story arcs in the story were well defined and have been concluded properly. Although it may feel like a never ending race of having to fight beings after another, I think the author planned it with the development of the story and the character in mind. For me, it is the type of book that makes you not want the story to end as you’ve spent some time invested and has become attached to the characters.
The ending of the story might be seen as unsatisfying by others but I think that it fits really well with the personality of the main character. Overall, I think that this book is an easy read and is definitely an interesting story.
Ended up finishing all 13 books under a week >_< . The story has a great plot and keeps the reader in the dark until the last minute. Loved it. Rise Up!
Bjoss. E bora terminar mais um livro.
Great plotting, writing, world development and character growth.
The review is for all the 14 light novels.
This was my first time reading a fan translated light-novel, from Korean to English. Felt like I was reading a manga/manhwa.
It has characteristics of Fantasy as well as Sci-fi. First time I saw a levelling up and character growth system in a novel, these are common in RPG games and animes. Although I realized this is common style in Japanese/Korean/Chinese light novels, personally experiencing it for the first time made it a very entertaining read. I really dig the transformation of weak characters from zero to hero and that is what you get here.
Excellent read, the author didn't drag any of the subplots and overstretch the length, also it didn't feel as kiddish as I have seen other similar style light novels I have read since. I really got lucky in choosing this as my first Japanese/Korean/Chinese light novel.
I really like this whole series! I was hooked by the webtoon first, and then I read the whole novels. This was a really fun read. I really like this kind of plotline, like SAO. Just not really fond of how the ending. It felt quite rushed. Good thing the author lengthen the novel with the side stories, so I was quite satisfied with how it turned out in the end. This book's vibe was quite dark and heavy, so I really like the shadows antics, especially Beru's! All in all, this book is perfect for beginner in webnovel because it didn't have THAT much chapters. It was concluded in only 270 chapters!
Story-wise, I felt that the Japanese's role in this book was really nasty. Maybe the author still have some antipathy left? And sometimes, the using of Korean suffix regarding on who's talking was also quite disturbing for me. It felt weird when the westerner calling Jinwoo as Jinwo0-nim. Well, that's minor though.
There is a reason why this book, which is currently being done as a "webtoon" is causing so much hype. This year I must have done the novel about 10 times during lockdown.
If you are a gamer of MMORPG's you will so get this book. It's got the traits and plots we go nuts for and we can relate to so much in this otherworldly situation.
It's also a really good long read, that lets you get to know the wider world and attach to Jin-Woo so much. I loved this book and I adore the Webtoon. I believe there is an anime being planned in the future which could make or break this story from going mega mainstream in the west. Since reading this novel (I started on the Webtoon) I've been reading more Korean based Urban Fantasy and it's really good. I have been trying to find other good stories, but for me personally, Solo Leveling just stands out as an outstanding and original piece of work.
I've read and am up-to-date with the manhwa based on this story, but I couldn't wait for the next chapters without finding out what happens next, so I decided to read the light novel after hearing about it.
It's the first Korean light novel I am reading. There are a lot of sound effects and such within the text which was a little bit jarring at first, not gonna lie, but it's something small and easy to get over after the first few chapters.
The story started off great, throwing you into the action pretty much from the get-go, with maybe only chapters 1 and 2 being a bit slower. And the action keeps piling up slowly. it's a satisfying read, to say the least!
I had a great time reading this. I found the comic which really got me into the story, then I continued the Novel, unlike most of the fantasy genre, the protagonist isn't dense trash who doesn't know how to continue the story by himself. As a book lover in general, I want to recommend this because I liked it to the point I can't sleep. This novel could also help you some general truth within crimes.
Found the manga first and then realized there were book versions. I could't stop reading this series, I loved it that much! Sadly I can't seem to find a place to buy the hard copies as would love to support the author. I would definitely recommend this series to anymore that loves fantasy + dungeon battle.
Great story line. Enjoyable reading experience for fiction reader's lover. A tale of a man struggling in his life seeking for success for the sake of those around him, bearing the burden all by himself later helped by a Sovereign thus changing his fate altogether. Consist of 270 chapters, just finished reading it this morning after an all-out marathon.
Hi mr.Sung im shawn from philippines i really like your novel i'd like to share your work to some app but some apps didn't have your novel i really tried to realease it but i failed. Im scared because i think im doing is a copyrighting. I'd like to ask you if its ok
una novela que iba increíble, un personaje fantástico y un desarrollo personal maravilloso. Sin embargo, un final que dejo mucho que desear desde una perspectiva personal mía, muy recomendable esta novela y su manhwa ni hablar!
Super entertaining and all the arcs are so gripping with intense action. But I can't tell you the first thing about any of the characters because the story is so focused on Jinwoo's powers.
Read the webtoon in a day, decided I had to know what happens next and since there are full fan translations of the entire series... here I am, reading the novel as well :D
