Sometimes super powers aren't all they're cracked up to be...
Kate has enough problems - a boss that's a little too friendly, a sex life that's non-existent, and a cat with zero tolerance for late meals. The last thing she needs is to be kidnapped, even if it is by a hot Brit.
Afterwards, she's mysteriously returned and has no memory of what happened. She learns, with the help of an eccentric sexy woman, that she's been modified - given a power unique to her talents. Sounds cool, right? It would be if she knew how to use it without killing everyone around her...
Modified is a funny, sexy, geeky romp about the trouble of acquiring an unexpected and inherently evil super power. Full of offbeat characters, profanity, and a healthy dose of salacious thoughts, you'll love this fun series. With the box set edition, you get all five volumes for one low price!

Originally a Jersey girl, sunny Texas is where I now call home, in a town way up north in the panhandle called Wellington. Along with the man of my dreams, I have two children: a rambunctious little girl and a sweet but vocal little boy. Three cats, three dogs and an inordinate amount of pet hair complete my household. For fun I like to read YA, horror, and existentialist fiction, as well as watch cartoons, movies, and sometimes even cartoon movies. I try not to take anything in life too seriously and I tend to smile often.
I'm so happy to see Modified in a box set. Having all these great stories combined is awesome. I can only think of one thing better, having them in hard copy. Kate is a heroine for all and Modified rocks. Thank you Kat Stiles.
This is so different with its comic book flavor that it does grab the reader’s interest then proceeds to entertain! This collection is a funny, sexy, geeky romp when the main character, Kate, acquires an unexpected power she does not know how to use, especially dangerous because it is an inherently “evil” super power, hence wildly unpredictable.
The fast-paced story is supported by lots of quirky characters to take us off in many directions. This box set edition gives the reader all five volumes and should keep you out of trouble for some time as you wade through them all!
I absolutely loved this authors style. Written in the first person the listener gets an upclose look at Kate's thoughts which had me rolling in laughter. Its light--hearted fun for adults, especially if you enjoy a paranormal twist. Note there is some profanity, actually lots of profanity.
Kate doesn't have a glamorous life. She works as a temp, doing boring work, has a boss whose sexually harrassing and has little to no social life with the exception of one friend. Then she wakes with a huge throbbing lump on her head, can't remember anything about the previous night and soon finds out she has super powers.
Along with the humor is a touch of mystery and action.
First, I want to say that this isn't a set you want to read when you don't have a lot of time. You'll want to set aside a day to read through every story in this set, back to back. It's just that great. I sat at my computer, ready to read through the first episode of this story before continuing on with my day. I'd planned to read an episode a day, but that never happened. I found myself reading through the entire thing in one sitting. Here is why: This story takes you into the future where humans are kidnapped and modified. They go through a procedure that gives them gifts, gift the antagonist wishes to use for his own advantages. This story follows Kate as she's kidnapped by a man she's attracted to and given powers of telepathy. She tries to navigate the world with her new powers but she had to figure out who she can trust. Either she trusts a sexy Viola, who shows up every time she's in a tough spot to save her, or the sexy stranger, Steve, who Viola tells her has nothing but bad intentions towards her. From the beginning, I wanted to take that ride with her and I must say, I am grateful I did. Through all the twists and turns, I was invested in Kate. I was easily able to connect with this character throughout the story as she learned to control her new powers. More than that, this story had it all - humor, suspense, action, cringe-worthy moments, and moment of pure celebration, sprinkled throughout it. I laughed and nearly cried with Kate as the story unfolded. The characters were well fleshed out, my favorite being Viola. If you are looking for a story that's intense, funny, and action packed with characters you're sure to think about years after you read it, this is the story for you.
Modified:Volumes 1-5 Box Set by Kat Stiles, narrated by Jennifer Gilmour
WOW! I loved this box set so much I listened to it again immediately. More please! The story is fast paced, full of suspense and action, but also has humorous and emotional moments. There is futuristic science and tech stuff and just the right amount of steamy sexual encounters to amuse, but not interfere with the main story. There are many twists in the tale and unexpected developments to keep you interested. All the characters are quite believable and relatable, despite or maybe because of their individual quirks.
The story is told from the protagonist Kate’s perspective and allows insight into her thoughts as situations develop. Kate is a regular woman with regular needs, a boring job, a work friend called Jay and lives alone with her cat. One day she is kidnapped by a handsome man with an English accent and wakes up the next morning with a lump on her head, but otherwise seemingly unharmed and no memory of what has happened to her. From here on strange things start to occur, she is develops superpowers, which she must learn to control. Steve , the man who kidnapped her and had something to do with her change and a perplexing woman Viola, with powers of her own; keep mysteriously turning up and try to influence her against each other. Her only friend Jay is being very solicitous, but may have a secret of his own?
The narrator Jennifer Gilmour is perfect for the voice of Kate and does a pretty good job of changing her voice for the different characters, though her English accent has room for improvement.
I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review of my own opinion of it.
Kate works in IT at a job with a boss who is too friendly - quickly moving to too handsy - a dating and sex life that is basically non-existent, a cat who is incredibly intolerant of late meals, and a coworker who she may or may not be able to develop a crush on. The last thing she needs is to be kidnapped by a hot guy with an even hotter accent who then leaves her in her car with no memories of the night.
And things don't really get better from there. With the help of a very eccentric, very sexy woman, Kate learns that she has been "modified," though neither one of them know what her power is going to be. She finds out about one of her powers when she inadvertently uses it on her asshole boss who tries to take advantage of the fact that the two of them are the last two in the office one night by trying to rape Kate. While her power saves her, it opens up a whole other bag of problems.
This story might best be described as an adult-rated version of the X-Men, including multiple people with different powers, an evil madman who's trying to control said powers, and a crazy plan to stop said evil madman. Between the cursing and the sexual innuendoes is a good story about friends who band together to stop a bad guy, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The narrator for the audiobook, Jennifer Gilmour, did a fantastic job with the performance, and I couldn't stop laughing at her portrayal of Vi.
With the way this story ends, I hope that there are more volumes to continue the story. I would definitely love to see what happens after this story, which is basically an origin story.
The Illustrations of this covers and drawings on some of the chapters are absolutely stunning and well done! Now, a big disclaimer, about this book, It's a book not a, graphic comic book, Which would have been cool to read it as. Anyways, due to social climax of today there is violence's and possible sexual assult. .If you don't that then this is not something you should r Kate is having one heck of a day, she was just wanting a pack of smokes and meets a sexy stranger. She and said stranger were going to step outside and within a blink of an eye she wakes up in her car the following morning. And, the day for our heroine just starts going down hill.
I'm glad I picked up this ARC, the cover of this boxset is beautiful and caught my eye. The blurb definitely got20e lightly touched, nothing to in depth. But I found this story very interesting. It's a bit fantasy and I just kept thinking about X-men series. The characters could go more in depth but nothing like leaving you with cliffhangers to get you back to watch the next episode the following week. Wait, so if you like fantasy with a lot of action then you're gonna love reading this book. I found it ok and interesting and I'm ok in having read this book.

How much fun to get a box set by Kat Stiles. I love being able to go from one novel to the next without having to wait! Whenever you read a book by Kat Stiles you know you get certain things: the book is well-structured, well-proofed and well-edited; the storyline is fast-paced, without trite or contrived scenes; the story is strongly written, the characters are complex and well-developed and the dialogue is honest and believable. Now to all of that you add a fast paced story and you just have to hold on to your seat. There is no time to take a deep breath! We have a nerdy protagonist who is kidnapped, given a super power, and then given a mid wipe and return without a break in time. Put that all together with the super power having her killing everyone in sight and you just have to be paying attention. I can't wait to read the continuing sage. I received the boxset through storyorigin. This review is my honest thougts and opinions.
I typically don't do futuristic reads that often but this one caught me pleasantly by surprise. I really enjoyed the story line and the flow was fast paced. I'm SO glad I got the box set - the cliff hangers at the end of each volume would have driven me crazy if I have to wait - so that tells you how engaged I became in this series. I loved the twists and turns and appreciated how the addition of characters was introduced. The narrator did a fantastic job on this read - the accents used to differentiate between the characters was amazing! Overall I really enjoyed this futuristic X-Men like read with some erotic and romance thrown in for good measure.
this book was given to me for free at my request (as part of a box set) and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this book
Our heroine shows a bit of disdain for superheroes, which is doubly fun when she becomes one herself. To say things are complicated is an understatement.
This is a collection of all five books currently in the series. Whether there will be more in the future is an open question, but for now you get it all right here.
This is a science fiction story with a superhero theme. The story packs in some excellent characters that fun, sarcastic and rather quirky. To say they have some issues is an understatement, but it is all done with a sense of humor that makes it fun instead of angsty. We also get a fair amount of steam along the way, which is an unexpected bonus. Overall, this was a great collection of stories that were a lot of fun to read. I certainly am looking for more.
Highly recommended.

Will update with a more thorough review later tonight. Fun read/listen but super unrealistic in parts (nobody goes prowling for sex an hour or so after being almost raped... I'd believe it maybe after a few days, or even one day, but the book made it seem like she waited just long enough to put on clean underwear). So if rape is a trigger for you, definitely skip this one. I did enjoy the whole comic book feel of it though, very superhero like.
Quick Note: I listened to this instead of read it, so there's a chance that the narrator took away from the story a bit for me. Her inflections and tone seemed a little off in parts and you could definitely tell that she doesn't have much experience narrating. Lots of potential, but it didn't quite work for me (as far as the narration goes).
Although short, this is an omnibus of episodes 1 through 5 of this series. I have separately read and commented on episode 1.
My comments on that episode apply through the rest. The main change is the author massively turns up the sexual content without getting too cheesy, but otherwise keeps a tightly plotted story with sympathetic characters and that rarest of things: internal consistency. It’s very well done, except for a slightly daft “billionaire” happy ending. These superheroes were sympathetic through their ordinariness, but I suppose superheroes can’t function without a secret mansion and unlimited resources ...
This series is complete, but leads on to a “season 2”. Will I read on? Probably.
Very nice start to the series. Lots of action, lots of sex (fairly graphic, like maybe a stronger "R"). Even though the main character, at the beginning, looks down on comics and comic movies, she sure knows her X-Men. Things a non-fan would never know; Wolverine's regenerative powers, only one X-Man capable of teleporting (Kitty Pryde. Oops, forgot about Nightcrawler). This isn't a change of heart for the MC. It seems like a small error from the author (That's why I didn't give it 5 stars). A very fun read that is almost like reading a graphic novel. And with the covers, I can easily imagine it being one!
On the way home during a storm, Kate stops for a pack of cigarettes and ends up kidnapped, having her brain modified, then put back into her car as if nothing has happened. Later, Kate finds out she can read minds then teleport. When the man she loves is shot and dying, Kate her telepathic ability to plant suggestions. She even does it to her cat. This book contains an evil mastermind and his minions plus a slew of modified people who get together to figure out a way to take the evil one down. Highly recommended.d

I don't know what I was expecting when I downloaded this set. Maybe mildly interesting but I'll give it a try. I can always return it. Holy Crap !!! This set was a hoot!! I totally loved it. It had everything....hilarious dialogue, geeky co-workers, wild friends, accidental murders, mind control, diabolical evil, true love...like I said, everything!
I love the idea of someone just grabbing you off the street. Just to inject you with a drug that gives you super powers. The down side he's a bad guy out to steal said powers. I enjoyed this series but sometimes the writing felt wonky. Good to read on those off days we all have. Give it a try!
Highly readable story about a woman who lives for SQL stored procedures and sex who gets modified for superpowers and together with her plucky band of geeks seeks out the supervillain of the organisation responsible. Yeah, it's slightly trashy, but it's pretty fun. Not a graphic novel series but has the style of artwork for cover and sub-books.
Slow, drab start. But relatable daily humdrum. Once we get rolling, the characters and their weird actions gain necessary context. And you feel for them as horrible and whacky events progress.

I love this unique sci-fi series. It's fast paced and full of suspense, action, and romance. Great sense of humour too. The writing style hooked me from the first page. It's a fantastically entertaining read and I highly recommend it!
I chuckled and laughed and thoroughly enjoyed escaping into Kat's world for awhile. Loved the characters and their journey. I did not put this down until I finished and I definitely want more of this wacky group.
This is an excellent box set of a group of people getting kidnapped, activating powers, and some gruesome death scenes. But awesome how the main character is a geeky computer creator!! Loved this and can't wait for more!
Haven’t read a story like this before. The action was fast paced and there was a little bit of everything for everyone from regular to hot. Kudos to the author, great story!
Super powers, action, mind games, erotic situations. Impossible If you aren't affected by the characters. The individual books end in cliff hangers moving from one to the next.

I bought the entire box set all 5 volumes after reading volumes 1 and 2 and buckling down because I really wanted to enjoy all of them and I did if you like super heroes the X-men DC comics you'll love this Pick it up as you can!
A quick Read that definitely was a very different kind of superhero story. Interesting characters and a villain that really needs a full background story set around, Definitely moving onto Modified: Unified!
