Will Fain, U.S. Marshal, Book 7 -- Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Isum Wood has a brother on a homestead in New Mexico. Isum's brother sends a telegram asking for help. Isum takes the train out to Durango, Colorado, then rides down to New Mexico to his brother's ranch. A neighbor is stealing cattle and branding calves that don't belong to him. Isum arrests the man and two ranch hands, but the neighbor's son shoot Isum, who falls off a cliff and spends five days alone in the wilderness with a wrenched leg that won't allow him to walk far. U.S. Marshals Del Cole and Abram Shallot ride in to find Isum and help stop the cattle-thieving rancher. Will Fain, meanwhile, finds that the new judge called to replace Judge DuVal is not suited to the task, so he gets President Grant to help him call on President Rutherford B. Hayes to have the judge's nomination pulled. It's another classic western from R. O. Lane.
What can I say? After all, it is a Will Fain extravaganza, and there is always enough action to load a cattle car. This story, an the entire series, is a never ending stream of magnificent recollection of out old western folklore, and Will kinda lets his Deputies carry the load this time, which enhances and adds to the who's who end of the story. .
Most definitely a five star masterpiece and the happy trails is ablaze with never ending adventures throughout the entire book. Never any rest for the bad guys, and Isum goes above and beyond with it the other Deputy Marshals. Mr. Lane certainly did a magnificent job with his extraordinary selection of his characters and the storylines always maintained my undivided attention throughout this outstanding western adventure. I have always been impressed with Mr. Lane's exceptional knowledge of his subject, and this can be attributed to his apparent research abilities. Most definitely recommend this book, and series to all of you loving wonderfully heartwarming adventures, as the author most definitely goes above and beyond in desire to appease following. The never ending gunplay does not inhibit this series of being a family-friendly episodes from beginning to end. Try these stories, as you will definitely be as impressed as I have been, oK am sure!😂
5 STARS to Book 7 in the Series of US Marshal, West Texas with a storyline that will have the readers riding the rails from Texas to NYC & back to Las Vegas, NV plus someplace in the NM territory. The murder of the federal judge is still being felt by many people especially since he knew the law, would still sentence with compassion & empathy & common sense yet with the rule of law firmly in mind.
Head US Deputy Marshal Isum Wood had to head out to NM territory after receiving a telegram from his oldest brother Ezra sent asking him to come because he had bad trouble & needed help. Which Isum knew if his brother was asking he knew it was bad trouble & only hoped he could get there in time.
The other deputies were sent to Las Vegas, NV to be near Isum when finished & Will & Ross were going to head in that direction as they took care of some business in West Texas. These 5 were a tight group of men, and made it a point to have each others backs. It was their work ethic. & just the way they lived. They knew no matter what the others would always follow & find them or avenge them.
When Isum Wood gets a letter from his brother in New Mexico that he needs help defending his ranch, Isum knows he has no choice but to help. War does many different things to those involved, and for Vernon Wallace it made him a bitter and conniving man. He steals and kills to get what he wants, but this behavior catches up with him in a tragic payback. The best result was that two families were able to reconcile and become good friends. A good read with several top notch life lessons.
ROL has penned the seventh novel of U.S.Marshal Will Fain. The group of Marshals assigned to the West Texas District are at it again chasing down the evil doers until Isom received a telegram that says, Come a Running, Trouble here. He departs for his brothers and the o t her Marshals are not far behind him. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This book was the best one I've read by R O Lane, the story line and the characters kept me so intrigued and wondering what was going to happen next but the U.S. Marshal and his deputies banned together and got the jobs done as I knew they would, can't wait for the next book so I can do this again!
Once again Will Fain and his crew of deputies take on the biggest and most vicious men that cross the U.S. Marshal's path. This story was a little more personal when a rancher starts giving Ishum' s brother. That wasn't a smart thing to do. BRAVO 👏👏
The book is full of action and adventures. I really liked , how the Marshals thought to help the other when one thought the other was in trouble. Lessons was taught, a comeuppance was given and lots of love in the end.
A very good 👍 read. I will be checking for the next book !
I am so entrenched with the people in these stories, they almost feel real.
I really hope there are more stories with these characters. The story lines are awesome. There is such a good message in the stories of goodness, frienship, love, honesty and faithfulness in family and friends. I also enjoy the history in some stories.
I just wish with all my heart there were more real people like Will, Isum and the other good hearted people in this book. It is heartbreaking how the ones with hate and greed in their hearts harm so many. At least, in these books, they get their just rewards.
Another great story about an area of New Mexico, where I used to live! It made me homesick to be back where I lived living, but my health got bad, and we had to move back East, to be near two of our five children! I love this series of westerns, about U. S. Marshal and their exploits!
As with the other 6 installments, this story does not disappoint the reader. Seems Will is grooming Isum to take over as Marshall - makes one wonder what R. O. Lane has up his sleeve. Good thing these are not paperback, the pages would be frayed and torn from countless rereads.
Story October Ezra asking for help and his brother Isum comes to help. Ezra has problema with neighbor stealing his cattle. Isum is shot by neighbor's son and almost died. With the help of fellow Marshalls they help Isum kill neighbor. Another exciting story to enjoy the old West.
Well I've just finished reading book seven and I am really looking to the last book in the series, book eight. The books so far have been a real joy to read and I am really curious how the author is going to pull it all together in the end of this tale. Great stuff!
Marshall Will Fain, Will, dedication being a man of integrity, and the ability empowered people. Lead to helping two family's become friends and good neighbors. This story remind me of time when neighbors care about each other, and the humanity of life, great readings, really enjoyed this short story.
What an awesome book this was. The characters are so true to life which makes the story come to life. Would highly recommend this series to all that enjoys a great western.
Another R. O. Lane work of art ! Each of his characters development has been masterfully entwined in his stories to the point that his readers recognize their individual p
Western pride a well written story and a great view of history at the time setting in the new old west.the country setting was so written that you could see the country traveled in .another winnerpride
Unlike a lot of writers of Westerns, R.O.'s stories have plot, pacing, and believability. Each story contributes to the development of the characters and the overall story arc. Enjoying the series very much.
I have all seven of his books in this series. They are wonderfully written and hard to put down. I fact I had realized the seventh volume has come out and stay up all night reading it. Look forward to the next one to be released.
As always, the Will Fain stories do not disappoint. This story finds his Chief Deputy, Isum Wood, answering a call from his brother for help. Isum goes out alone and soon runs into trouble. Will and the Deputies come to his aid.
I loved reading this Will Fain adventure, this author sure knows how to write an excellent story. When he writes more stories I will read them with great anticipation. Thank you.
Deputy US Marshal travels to New Mexico to assist his broth, Ezra, who is being harassed by a neighbor who is still carrying the anger fueled by the Civil War. The neighbor is stealing Ezra's cattle and is threatening Ezra and his family. Isum engages in a gun battle with the neighbor and followers and is injured and unable to return to his brother's home. Meanwhile his fellow deputy marshals, Del and Abram complete their assignment and rush to assist Isum and rescue him. Will and his remaining deputies arrive to assist them and they drive the villains from New Mexico. Ezar's brother and his family are able to live in their own home without constant threat. The characters are well developed with their own personalities, needs and concerns. R. O. lane allows the deputies to have their own stories and provides a rich and family centered story. I thoroughly enjoyed the 6th book in this series and highly recommend it.
Decent story, some people have stupid ideas about how the color of your skin decides how you are. Smart folks know it's the state of your mind. What you do and why you do it, is the most important thing.
I didn't think your western characters and books could get better, but they have. You have created a true western role model. Keep up the superb western writings. Thank you, God bless.
Enjoy this series very much. Starting to read book #8. Thanks for providing interesting facts about the area the book is set in. I ride a Harley and have been to ever location you write about. So cool
Enjoyed book 7. As usual a great read. There is never a dull moment as the cases are always coming to keep our interest moving . I am going BB to now go to book 8. Dave Cochran
Mr land's stories are always a superior read. He writes so well you could think you were there. He does that without profanity (that I noticed), or crude descriptions.
This book drew me in because it hit the core of how people and events in their lives makes excellent or send them in a path of evil. Everyone of us can choose. Enjoy this edition I did.
