Nomi: Can we be alone together, Shadow man? That's what I said and that's what I meant. Only I didn't know that anyone was really listening. But he was and from the moment he spoke, Garrin swept me up into his world. Death surrounds him. My love can save him. If he just let's me in. If he just takes my light I can help him through the dark.
Garrin Can we be alone together? That's what she said to the man in the shadows. That's what she said to me. An invitation to a world, that's lonely, bloody and dark. But with her, there is light and I need it. My love comes with a cost. A price that has to be paid in blood. Let her go...a better man would. I'm not a better man. I'm a selfish killer. And I want what I want. Her.
This was a great storyline and I loved the main characters. If you love a dark romance then this is it. I would recommend this book but it looks like it will be a part two. I can't wait to find out what happens next. I hope the couple get their HEA.
I had to give up and tap out! I have no need for weak-ass, punk-ass heroines. I need her to STFU, woman up, and stop all the whining. She has a backbone but it’s like she’s allergic to it. Also, Germans do not walk around saying “ja” every sentence. That’s not how it rolls. I love a dark lead, but homeboy was too emo for me. I won’t. I shan’t. I can’t. I put this shit down a month ago and I keep running. I need to admit defeat and just call it a day. Give me a lead who loves herself and isn’t afraid to punch someone in the face. And if you can’t be that, please be dark, submissive, and damaged. Those are your two options in these scenarios.
2.75 Stars. (BWWM). KUB # 71. The book cover depicts Garrin with black or dark brown hair; however, the author describes him has having blond hair and grey eyes.-apassing observation. Dark romance. The story introduces the protagonists as attendees of a Holloween Costume Charity Ball being held at the Art Institute of Chicago, the heroine, Nomi Turner, a pretty plus size Black architect is holding up in a dark secluded lower level room, lurking in the shadows of that same room is the hero, Garrin Riemelt, a wealthy German businessman and assassin who is there in is father’s steed to commission Nomi to design his repurposed basement. Nomi is dressed as Alice in Wonderland and is battling a migraine and panic attack, Garrin is dressed as Dracula, the Dark Prince, has been secretly commissioned by Nomi’s Detective brother to guard her. Nomi and Garrin shared and immediate attraction and entered into a sexually exclusive dating arrangement for a year. During this time Garrin is killing bad men and looking for the man who killed his wife and Nomi discovers, about the wife and suicides of 2 of his ex-girlfriends and wrestles with her feelings for her ex-boyfriend, insecurities about her weight, fear of crowds and what she thinks is the unrequited love of Garrin. Turns out they love each other and love making love with each other; but they keep breaking up and making up to the point of exhaustion then they get married, thinking he killed one of her homeless friends makes Nomi fear Garrin; so, she cuts him and runs away. Would not have read this hodgepodge of unnecessary drama had I known it ended in a cliffhanger.. don’t intend to read a second book- she’ll be pregnant and find out it was the man that killed his wife who killed her friend not Garrin. Oh well.
This was a dark and tantalizingly great book! Loved how the twisted alpha millionaire Garrin and the full figured beautiful architect Nomi fall in love with each other amidst murder, rough sex and intrigue! It's not the typical love story with sweet flowers and candy but Ms. Camille Mackenzie weaved all of these elements into a must read page turning tale. I loved how Garrin and Nomi complemented each other she provides the light to his very dark murderous soul! There are many twists and turns and this story leaves off abruptly!! So I wait with bated breath for the next installment of Nomi and Garrin's tale. Ms. Mackenzie will be added to my list of authors I must read. Bravo on a job well done!. Please have part 2 quickly in the works. I loved the solid length of the book over 300 well written pages with very minor typos! I thought about both characters well after the book ended. That's how much the book affected me. Ms Mackenzie I am a loyal fan for life now.
By the end of this story....my rapidly beating heart was unsure what was more disturbing...Nomi striking Garrin with his prized weapon or Nomi finally realizing that the Prince of Death is a man who would do anything to protect her...including eliminating people she cares about...the raw sexual nature of their relationship began as a curiosity that spiraled into Garrin's self actualization that he does possesses the one flaw humans have...the ability to fall helplessly and passionately in love with another person who pureness is either a blessing or in this case...his down fall....everyone is against them...except her bff Jessica..or so it seems...Nomi is finally finding her voice and backbone to stand up to the naysayers and wham!...out of nowhere and everywhere...comes Lita death...
I have read all of Camille’s book and this has to be my least favorite. The premise is interesting and for a time the plot keeps you going but then it gets repetitive and the angst of will he finally tell her the truth is just drawn out. There was no need for this story to end on a cliffhanger. Cut out some of the repetitive crap and unnecessary continued back and forth the characters do with themselves and others and you could have ended this book in one swoop. I feel I could have gotten it to 3 or 4 if she had done that but alas she kept it going way too long and now there is another book that should have just been combined with this one.
I gave this three stars because Mackenzie should have warned the reader that there are two parts to this story.
Mackenzie needs to find better adjectives to describe Nomi's physical appearance. Who wants someone to have their shoulder called fleshy. Also, BBWs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and when describing characters, it's helpful to describe more than their butt, breast, and thighs. It's basically the hallmark of an hourglass figure, which also doesn't look the same on everyone. Anyhow, describing her height, waist, size, etc will create a clearer picture.
The Girl Isn't on The Kindle Cover, which is a Good thing...
This book is like a roller coaster with all the dip and crazy turns. I loved both of the main characters, even with all of his darkness, Garrin is one of my favorite leads. Mimi took a while to grow in me, but she's cool. Obviously there has to be a book two. Mimi can't stay away from Garrin and he won't let her go too far for too long. And what's with the Pierto character? Is he actually Kiefer? And Ian, what's that about? Was Lita something more than a homeless woman? I'm looking forward to the next book, I hoped it's not too long in coming.
Naomi and Garrin make the dark sound like so much fun. Naomi we meet while coming from a bad breakup and dealing with personal trauma. Garrin we meet while coming from chasing not only personal demons but actual live ones. The way they meet, stay together snd (temporarily) end is the stuff that romance readers crave. One of the best books i've read all year.
This is definitely a dark and twisted story of love. Every time I thought Garrin was a little better Nomi would find something else out about him. I don't want to give too much away so I can't say lot but know that these is an intense novel. I loved it and can't wait for the next one!!
Wowzer this was bad. This book made me feel fatphobic. There was too much painful sex and it was described as painful but was still supposed to be sexy. I got 40% of the way and could not force a finish unlike the hero who would force himself into the dryest of holes and swear he's pleasuring someone.
This book was a longer read. I thought that there would have been a better ending with how long it was. It was different from other books by this author and I enjoyed the five into darkness. I think everyone in this book was a bit off and had some darkness in them. The ending left many unanswered questions. BWWM
OMW that cannot be the ending wth. Miss Mackenzie I taught broken was bad but this top it. This book was soooo good wow. Can't wait to read the continuation, cause nah I get speechless yes. Hmmm bring on the next one cause he can't die nope
Is really over so many twists and turns, and moving parts. Who is Ian really? Did Garrin really do it? What really what to Nomi? So many questions, is this all of the story?
This book requires a slow clap standing ovation that turns into a roaring applause. Oh my word!!!! I try to never do this, because I know what all goes into writing a book, but please..... PLEASE hurry with the second part to this story.
I'm severely hoping that there's a part two. No matter how twisted this book was I loved it. I loved every word. It sucked me in so deep I was wondering if I was crazy. Please let there be a part 2
I'm ready for part 2 now. Garrin and Nomi are two sides of one coin. Their personalities mesh and they have a deep love for each other. Really want to know how their story ends
I actually mean that in the nicest possible way! But damn it I've been Obsessing Over this story!!!!! It's so damn good but the ending😩😩. Okay enough theatrics, out the gate the book will hold u enthralled and I can't wait for more
I remember when this was just a short story Ms Mackenzie wrote. But now to read this I have goose bumps. This read gave me some of everything and I can't wait for part 2 cuz I need answers!!!!
I laid in my bed all day with the curtains drawn and my kindle falling in love with Garin and Nomi and now I'm desperate for more. Awesome read! No spoilers here. Read the book!
Nomi, doesn't realize she's on someone's hit list and Garrin has been chosen to take care of the creator of the threat. Nomi and Garrin are drawn to each other and secrets are shared.
I like what I read, but Nomi was getting on my nerves. Swishy washy! Either she trust Garrin or she don't. This ends in a cliffhanger. Hopefully, book two comes soon because I don't want to forget.
Stop what you are doing and read this book. So many twist and turns. Make you question your sanity if you found the lead character sexy and want someone to love you this way. A fast post book that keeps you guessing. Can't wait for part two.
I didn't know it was a cliffhanger....oh well. Really creepy storyline but I couldn't put it down. Author gets into her characters head. Nomi is strong and courageous. I hope she gets her happy ending.
Had I known, had it been disclosed this would end in a cliffhanger I’d not had touched this book. Brilliant enough for 5 stars, cliffhanger with no following sequel ready to read 1 star. Infuriating is what it is.
Seriously I waited all this time for this story and she end it like this! I’m so freaking upset. Money doesn’t mean everything that you should cheat us of the whole story. I’m so upset I spent my money on this book.
To many twist and turns. I like nomi and garrin but this story has to many twist. Then turns out to be a cliffhanger! I'm like I read all this for nothing because I still don't know what the hell is going on.
Spoiler alert* Nooooo not a cliffhanger!! I don’t even know where to start. This story is so well written. Garrin and Nomi are so incredibly complex as individuals but together they make perfect sense and such a beautiful disaster. I need book 2 immediately!!
Just give the book a read, I heart this book so much! I truly fell in love with the characters, love that it was a cliff hanger. Now I get to continue this sexy, dark, passion filled, intoxicating, mesmerising book!!!!
