This is the fifth book in the Jane Hawk Series and you really would want to read these in order. Mainly this series is about Jane, who is on a search to find out why her husband was killed and who did it. His death was set up to believe that he committed suicide but Jane knows better. She is hiding for her life depends on it as she is hunted by some government officials, who have a way to find their enemy. Jane used her intelligence to outsmart the enemy. She is an ex F.B.I. agent and is a wanted fugitive. Jane's enemies are determined to see her dead or make her wish she was dead. The Arcadians are just pure evil. They use a drug and inflicts it into people, and then they have total mind control of them. They do it to those who they feel are a threat to society.

Dean Koontz brings Jane Hawk's one-woman war to an explosive climax as the rogue FBI agent wages her final battle against a terrifying conspiracy--for vengeance, for justice, and for humanity's freedom. At first, only Jane stood against the "Arcadian" conspirators, but slowly others have emerged to stand with her, even as there are troubling signs that the "adjusted" people are beginning to spin viciously out of control. Now, in the thrilling, climactic showdown that will decide America's future, Jane will require all her resources and more as she confronts those at the malevolent, impregnable center of power.

This book was super action packed. The books in this series, just get better and better. Make sure you have plenty of time on your hands because I didn't want to put this book down. This is a thriller series. I loved the writing style. This is a long book but the chapters are short and it has riveting suspense that makes it a fast paced read and it didn't take me long to finish it. My heart was pumping and I was holding my breath and coming up for air several different times to find out what was going to happen next.

I love Jane's character. She is an ass kicking heroine and doesn't seem to be afraid of any thing and truly trusts her instincts. I loved the dynamics of the characters.

I loved the ending. It was the perfect ending to the end of this series. Sadly, this is the last book of this series.

I highly recommend this series to thriller fans. Sadly, this is the last book of the series. So those that start this series are so lucky because you won't have to wait for the next book.

I want to thank NetGalley, Random House and Dean Koontz for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Apparently this is my week to read Hawk books. H is for Hawk earlier in the week and now I finish off the Jane Hawk series from Dean Koontz. I may not have had a glowing review for H is for Hawk, but the Jane Hawk series ended with a big and spectacular bang!

Thanks to Bantam Books/Random house for this ARC – I think this is one of the few times I am actually getting to an ARC while it is still “Advanced”. And, again, a standing ovation for Dustin Crazy little brown owl - moderator of Koontzland - the definitive Koontz Goodreads group - for hosting another book giveaway!

This whole series was great! There is so much to be found here, including:
• Lots and lots and lots of chases
• Very creepy bad guys
• Mind control
• Brain fried zombie monsters
• Espionage
• Corruption
• Computer hacking
• Black market deals
• Triumphant heroics
• Heroes you love to love
• Teeth-grinding, intensely perilous, suspenseful moments
• Events in the United States from coast to coast
• Characters losing touch with reality
• And, since it is Koontz, dogs!

I have read parts or all of a couple of Koontz’s other series (Odd Thomas and Frankenstein) and I think this one is his best so far. It does not have quite as much of the horror/supernatural creepiness that many expect from Koontz. So, if that is what you love about him, this may not be the series for you. But, if you love edge of your seat techno-thrillers, you cannot go wrong here!

Here are some links to my other reviews from the series – all of them very strong and worth reading, but read them in order or you will be very confused!

Book 1 – The Silent Corner
Book 2 – The Whispering Room
Book 3 – The Crooked Staircase
Book 4 – The Forbidden Door

Dean Koontz concludes the insanely thrilling Jane Hawk series in fine style with a shocking leftfield conclusion. This has the feel of the Will Smith film, Enemy of the State, with Jane as the feisty stellar protagonist being ferociously hunted down, she is joined in her battle by the genius hacker that is Vikram Rangenaker and the few allies who believe in her. At the heart of the conspiracy is the Voldemort like billionaire, Wainwright Hollister, and his death eater government and private industry cabal of Techno-Arcadians. The pure evil that is Hollister is convinced of his godlike invincibility and the inevitable subjugation of humanity, with its 'adjusted' individuals, and technological slavery. There are engineered suicides and the wiping out of any person perceived to challenge his malignant vision, all of whom find themselves on the Hamlet List to be assassinated. On the Hamlet List is a film maker, Thomas Buckle, lured by Hollister to provide him with a deadly entertainment.

Jane has left her beloved 5 year old son, Travis, in safe hands but with all the powerful and ruthless forces arraigned against her, not to mention the criminal elements out there in society, how long will he remain safe? With Vikram avidly chasing the kind of information on Jane's enemies that will help to bring them down, her priority is to save Travis at any cost. Leading the hunt for Jane is the cruel Charles Weatherwax, a man who enjoys torturing people, and his partner, Mustafa al-Yamani with his aspirational dreams of the highest social circles, a Tom Buchanan wannabe from The Great Gatsby, in search of his very own Daisy. An enraged and drug fuelled Charlie and Mustafa become desperate to avoid being 'adjusted' as they find themselves being Vikramised. In the meantime, Jane feels there is only one way to try and overcome the conspiracists, but could it succeed and what price will it exact?

Koontz writes a tense and exciting conclusion to this excellent thriller series, fast paced with its short and snappy chapters, and which piles on the suspense and tension admirably right through to the unbelievable and surprising end. This is a series that is for all those who love nail biting and compulsive thrillers and for all Dean Koontz fans. Fabulously entertaining and highly recommended. Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC.

This is book 5 of the Jane Hawk series. And as most everyone is aware it will be the last in the series. I’m a relative newcomer to Dean Koontz’s work - this being my only exposure to his writing. And while I’ve found it entertaining, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster for me. There were some books in the series that I thoroughly enjoyed, leaving me breathless. While others seemed lacking, and more or less just a filler to the installment.

The last book, The Night Window didn’t hold the excitement throughout that I’d hoped it would. I was hoping for something a bit different from previous books and I just didn’t feel it.

But… The final 20% had me hooked! I couldn’t wait to see how Dean Koontz was going to wrap up this highly successful series! Well done!!

I continue to love Bernie Riggowitz and Cornell Jasperson! My two favorite characters of the series! I will indeed miss them both!💖

I will now be watching for perhaps the start to a new series from Mr. Koontz.... I’m ready!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group Ballantine and Dean Koontz for an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review

This one was good. In fact it was very, very good and it finished the series off in great style.

I loved the way Koontz wrote it, in short choppy chapters, each one bouncing around between different characters. Every time he reaches a really suspenseful moment with one person the chapter ends and the reader is left hanging while he deals with another character. It was very stressful but certainly built up the excitement.

Koontz knows how to write really nasty characters and there were many of them. Of course the nastier they are the more glorious it is to see them get their due. And they did, in spades. He can also write good characters like Jane who we have followed now through five books. At last something good can maybe happen for her. Vikram also had a huge role in this final book and proved himself to be pretty amazing!

Best of all was the ending with a solution only the author could have dreamed up. I thought it was just right and I finished the book with a smile on my face. Well done Mr. Koontz and long may you keep writing books.

This was a buddy read with my husband who loves Dean Koontz. I read the first, second and now final book in the Jane Hawk series. It didn’t take long to get caught up to what was happening.

Jane is a strong, intelligent heroine, as she is on the hunt for the crazy billionaire, Warwick Hollister. With those working with him they have managed to implant devices into the minds of about 16,000 people in the US. His goal is world domination and he has a “God complex”, he believes he is destined to rule. His group is now called the Arcadians. It is impossible for Jane, or anyone, to know which people have been implanted with the device since they act normally until they are commanded to do something, including committing suicide which Jane’s husband had done. Likewise it is difficult for Jane to hide as there are surveillance cameras everywhere with sophisticated face recognition software which makes using conventional disguises useless.

Jane has had her son in hiding hoping to protect him from anyone who is tracking her trail.

In this book Jane finally has help in the form of FBI guy Vikram Rangneckar. He not only has obvious great tracking abilities but he is also a computer nerd who has a secret crush on Jane and will do anything he can to help her.

This was an entertaining read and Mr. Koontz keeps the action moving and Jane on the run. This book is a very good ending and I’m glad that he chose to keep the series fairly short which kept everyone’s interest peaked.

I enjoyed reading this book and see that it is getting rave reviews from Koontz followers. I recommend it for sheer entertainment value.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through Edelweiss.

An awesome, thrilling finale to the Jane Hawk series. Dean Koontz this has been an outstanding series! You do need to read this series from the beginning though - I don't think you could pick up this final book and easily figure out what has happened. Action-packed and full of tension - I couldn't put this one down. I agree with the quote: "Jane Hawk is arguably the best character Koontz has created. Simply put, wow."--Associated Press. I'd give the series a 5-star rating. The mind-control theme is really interesting and Jane Hawk makes a great heroine.

So this is it; the grand finale, the end of the wild ride, the whole enchilada, fini, -30-.
I am glass eyed from trying in one night to finish Dean Koontz’s The Night Window, the fifth and final Jane Hawk book. As much as I wanted to see much of what happened happen, I am really sorry to see this marvelous series end. Yeah, baby, parse that sentence.
Common wisdom says one should start this series from the beginning, but we aren’t all “adjusted” yet. A major villain, Warwick Hollister, the guy with so much money that he makes single-digit billionaires look like simple trash, does a great job in summarizing the previous books. Hollister makes this grand summary, demonstrates some of his power to a filmmaker and then sends the filmmaker on a run for his life. Ah, what fun the super rich must have. Other than for the expository pages I’m not sure why so much time is devoted to Hollister’s craziness and death chase of the filmmaker.
Former FBI Agent Jane Hawk has been fighting almost single handedly against a group called the Techno-Arcadians who have developed a means for widespread mind-control, through nano-technology; and therefore a new way to take control of the country, then the world.
Jane has been on the run ever since she discovered her beloved husband Nick’s suicide was not a suicide but part of the effort to eliminate anyone who might have the intelligence, the means, or the influence to fight the Techno-Arcadians. They just weren’t smart enough to include an enraged widow and fierce mother on their “Hamlet List”; the list of those slated as suicides for the same reasons and same method as Nick.
Jane is running out of steam and options. It seems as if every method she has used to escape detection is being eliminated. At the same time she is discovering there are people who don’t believe Jane Hawk is the beautiful, murderous monster that the Techno-Arcadians have turned her into via the corrupt media.
Jane is joined by a former co-worker from the FBI, Vikram Rangnekar, a computer genius who is willing to aid Jane, along with the surprising help of his family.
Travis, Jane’s five year old son is still under the protection of a man in his eighties and a younger man who is severely on the spectrum. At one point they encounter a woman with a secret basement who spent most of WWII hiding in a comparable basement. This is a true moment of grace and remembrance in this book, of what can really happen with an out of control government.
I love this series for the excitement, for the thought-provoking moments, for Koontz’s masterful storytelling.
The ending ofThe Night Window caught me totally by surprise. So shocking, yet made so much sense. Did I mention shocking?
I’m really not sure what to write now. This is Dean Koontz, the master, the original; the Dean Koontz who writes books that readers still talk about twenty years after reading them So I will just sadly say good bye to Jane, Travis, Vikram, and all of the brave souls who helped Jane. I’ll miss y’all.

Jane on the Run

When a 400-page thriller has grabbed your attention so much that you tear through it in less than 24 hours, you know the author is on to something. The Night Window, the final volume in the 5 volume Jane Hawk series, is a jet-propelled thrill ride. As it continues and completes a story developed five volumes ago and does not recap those volumes, it is not recommended that you start here.

Koontz offers us a high-paced story of a woman on the run with all of law enforcement and high technology arrayed against her and hemming her in at every turn. The concept is that an elite group is injecting people with nanotechnology which subjects them to mind control and it’s key people in key positions being targeted. Many become a veritable zombie army of rayshaws. Others are induced to suicide. FBI agent extraordinaire Jane Hawk is one of the few who have figured out the Arcadians’ secrets and they are desperately hunting her through facial recognition software, control of the internet, monitoring of communications, etc. Jane has few allies and they are in the run too.

What makes this novel and indeed this series work is the concept of the lone wolf on the run fighting against an evil cabal. The concept of how quickly the control of social media and credit cards etc can be taken over is frightening as is the extent to which all media repeats propaganda they are fed and how quickly lone voices can be isolated and made to look crazy. Groupthink is here in some ways even without nanotechnology being implanted.

Forget whether the science elements make sense and enjoy the story of Jane - nearly alone- against an organized conspiracy of thousands of controlled people. How would you go about surviving and escaping in a world of flying drones, monitored transactions, and readable communications. How far off the beaten path would you go to survive?

I have loved this series and am very sad to see it come to a close. It was thrilling, "unputdownable", and I always looked forward to the next installment featuring the brave, strong, and courageous Jane Hawk. It is truly an amazing feat by this author to have kept this series constantly fascinating and awesome.

Jane Hawk again is battling the evil forces of the Arcadians, a group that wants domination so badly that they inject nanoparticles into people so that they can control them. Triggered by a phrase, the controlled group will acquiesce to the command of the speaker, and wreck havoc if they are instructed to do so, even to the point of their own suicide. It is mind control carried to the ultimate. It's a way to achieve domination and with every telling of the story, Dean Kootnz has created such amazingly vile and horrendous villains, as well as people who are valiant and stalwart.

In Jane, the author gives the reader an extremely strong brilliant protagonist, one that will go the ends of a earth to protect her son and the people she loves. Jane possesses that resiliency that have made her such a heroine and one that has propelled these five books into something special and fascinating.

Mr Koontz has been able to carry this story with his uncanny ability to present both the dark side of humanity contrasting with all that is good and noble in society. I am sad to see this series end as I could always look forward to a story that I knew would never disappoint me. I definitely recommend this book and the preceding ones to all of those readers who love being mesmerized and fascinated. Jane, you will be missed.

Thank you to Dean Kootnz, BantamBooks, and NetGalley for a copy of this awesome novel. This book is due to be published on May 14, 2019.

The fifth and final novel in Dean Koontz's series featuring his protagonist Jane Hawk, "The Night Window" is a satisfying conclusion to a sci fi/horror series that has cleverly combined issues such as nanotechnology, A.I., and mind control with contemporary conspiracy theories involving super-wealthy cabals bent on world domination.

Everything Jane has learned about the Techno-Arcadian conspiracy is coming to a head in this one. With the help of a nerdy ex-NSA computer whiz, Jane has compiled a list of every top Arcadian in the country, including their "Hamlet List", which is the secret list of people that the Arcadians are planning to kill or "adjust" through the administration of brain-controlling nanobots. There are literally thousands of names on the list, hers being the top of the list.

But how do you break a story to a public that has become super-cynical and distrustful of "fake news" and a corporate-controlled (and Arcadian-controlled) media?

Koontz has been unfairly criticized for unwittingly spreading ridiculous Q-Anon conspiracy theories. (In a book he wrote several decades ago, he accurately "predicted" a viral outbreak that emananted from Wuhan, China.) In this series, the Arcadians inject the nanobots via the bloodstream occasionally disguised as "vitamin" shots or vaccines.

It's not Koontz's fault that there are gullible idiots out there who can't distinguish between fiction and reality.

Dean Koontz introduced us to ex-FBI Agent Jane Hawk in 2017. Four novels later, he asks us to say farewell to her.
I was apprehensive when I began The Night Window. Would the series ending satisfy? Would I be able to say goodbye to Jane Hawk without regrets.
Dean Koontz has written a series finale that does not disappoint. This is a fast paced, intelligent, edge of your seat thriller. Jane Hawk uses every tool in her arsenal in the final showdown with the Techno-Arcadians. Battling corruption, murder, revenge, treason, monsters, and mind bending drugs, the fight comes down to good versus evil. Dean Koontz gives us a fast paced book that takes us on a thrill ride to an unbelievable ending.
Thanks to Dean Koontz for the Jane Hawk series. We have gotten to know a fierce warrior who faced the enemy with courage and skill. Much as I lament the ending of the intelligent series, I am pleased with its conclusion.
This summer the best thriller isn’t on the local movie screen, nor is it on our TV screen. The best thriller is between the flaps of Dean Koontz’ last Jane Hawk novel. So settle in, open the book and prepare for an edge of your seat thrill ride. I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. #NetGalley #TheNightWindow

I finished reading The Night Window a few days ago but needed a bit of time to get over my enormous book hangover. Actually, it’s a Jane Hawk book hangover, and I’m going to miss her tremendously! Except for maybe Einstein from Watchers, Jane is my favorite Dean Koontz character, and I have read ALL of his books and own most of them (maybe all of them).

Koontz has an uncanny knack of bringing us the greatest of goodness in his characters but also the absolute worst, evil dreggs of humanity as well. He manages to infuse so much dark into his books, yet he balances it out with the light, and the hope of what humans are, or should be, in my eyes.

Jane Hawk is a formidable woman with some darkness of her own, but only what she needs to be able to combat the pure evil. She always manages to surround herself with the pure of souls to fight the horrendous humans. This is what I love so much about Koontz’s work; the hope and love of his characters.

Although I am extremely content with how Koontz ended this series, I am extremely sad to leave Jane Hawk.

Bloody hell that was sooo intense. It wasn't the violence or anything but over five books you can get so invested in the characters that you cannot bear for anything bad to happen to them. So in reading this there was a lot of stop and start as I soothed my fevered brow.

Clearly this is do or die for Jane Hawk so it was always going to be full on. And it was - wall to wall action, suspense and nerve shredding terror. Once Jane's FBI buddy Vikram (you've been Vikramised ha ha - that was good) got involved it all escalated again as I was afeared that Vikram would meet a sticky end. Luckily they find an ally when they need it the most. The negative press coverage of Jane has had the opposite of the desired effect in some quarters as many people are now smelling a rat and are willing to help her. The ending was just brilliant although I should have cottoned on earlier. Never mind.

I don't want to say any more. I can't to do the book justice in a few paragraphs. If you love thrillers you will love this series. Start at book 1 and just keep going (there's only five books). It will stay with you for a while. The daunting thing is that it doesn't sound so far fetched. You can almost see this happening. Loved it, Loved it, loved it.

Review:
An explosive conclusion to the bestselling Jane Hawk series by the renowned author Dean Koontz. The Night Window is a finale like no other with full-color characters, twists, and screams.

Jane, still on the run from the Arcadians, finds she cannot do this alone. Finding out that her distinct disguises will no longer work because of new technology becomes a new problem.

Meanwhile, a young director becomes wooed into a hapless situation with an Arcadian, that is to say, THE Arcadian. Observing a suicide and hearing the plot of the Arcadians, he is set off in weather most horrible only to be hunted. It soon becomes a race for his life. The man chasing him will stop at nothing until he is dead.

A man, a burglar and rapist, decides to make a cash smooth” hit,” only to find out that he may have hit the jackpot. When things go too well and too good to be true, things get ugly. Can he get away with his life?

The Tech Arcadians are getting desperate, and so is Jane. Making an ally of a man she didn’t trust in the beginning, they venture forth to bring down the most evil organization there ever has been.

A shocking discovery, a host of allies and utilizing unorthodox methods, Jane and her ”friends” venture forth down a path of no return.

Characters:

The villains are full color and so cold it makes the reader see just how talented Koontz is at creating characters.

By now, Jane is fully formed and well known; there are no mistakes, and individual character traits pop up that make her unique.

The allies are quirky, serious and bold. They show plausible traits and have great dialogue.

The book rides like butter without fail. The attention to the most minute detail is one that is not distracting but lends itself to each scene. Each nuance has given life to the story in ways that only Koontz can.

This novel is sure to please the followers of the Jane Hawk series and delight any Koontz fan into reading more of the writer’s novels.

Writing:
There is nothing negative to say about Mr. Koontz’s writing. He is a terrific, if not, genius as crafting a story so plausible so musical that it becomes more than a pleasure to read. The very way the words appear on each page, it makes one envious of the skill that was employed while creating the tale.

Plot:
The many subplots involved with the main plot came together perfectly towards the end with a bang. The surprising effect is something that cannot be duplicated well.

The ending was not predictable. Of course one would guess HOW it may end just not specifically. This is just how wonderful and unpredictable the story is.

What I Liked:
The very manner in the way the story progressed, the twists, the unpredictable and unprecedented nature of the story, that was enjoyable. I saw that the succeeding nature of the story would take place, just, not how. I was in shock and awe at the skill and the breadth of the information that came from her new ally and began rooting for him for the entirety of the book.

What I Didn’t Like:
There were some slow and unnecessary parts of the book I felt. It almost seemed like parts of the story took unnecessary risks. I would have been happy if some characters hadn’t gotten in the way.

Also, I would have liked to know More about her in-laws, who were in hiding since the last book.

Overall Impression:
Night Window by Dean Koontz is a marvelous book and a tremendous achievement for him to close off a series that has been so successful. Readers will not be disappointed to read this or any of the other Jane Hawk books. I rates this a 5.00.

This ARC was provided to me by Netgalley and the Publisher, Bantam, for an honest review, thank you. My words are my own.

Jane Hawk risks everything to take down an immense societal conspiracy, and bring this series to a dramatic conclusion.

SUMMARY
Ex-FBI agent Jane Hawk’s war against the Techno Arcadians conspirators come to a stunning conclusion in this fifth novel, THE NIGHT WINDOW. A computer hacker armed with “back doors” into government data bases joins efforts with Jane to identify members of the conspiracy and those people across the nation who have been “adjusted” with nanobots. The two of them gamble everything to stop the madness overtaking the country. The architect behind the conspiracy, is a monstrous billionaire facing a red-silk madness all his own, while chasing a young movie director across his snow-covered ranch in Colorado. Two brutal members of the Arcadian revolution, well-equipped by Homeland Security, are on the heels of the computer hacker, who stole millions from nine different government agencies, While trying to extinguish the conspiracy and evade capture Jane biggest fear is that her 5-year-old son Travis, who is in Arizona and guarded by an octogenarian and a gentle millionaire ladened with personality disorders, is in jeopardy.

REVIEW
Jane Hawk is a fabulously strong female character, who comes alive on the pages of The Night Window for a dramatic conclusion. I will miss her intelligent and thoughtful character and am delighted to see that at least the first book in this series, The Silent Corner, was optioned for television. In The Night Window, Vikram, the computer hacker is a new addition to the series and is a particularly endearing character.

The chapters are pleasantly short and each is told from one of several alternating perspectives. THE NIGHT WINDOW is creative and dramatic and DEAN KOONTZ’s writing is both haunting and action-packed. The plot is crowded with amazingly unique and well-developed characters. Some you’ll love, and some, you’ll love to hate. As it should be. It’s a contemporary thriller, and while it’s sad to see a series with a fabulous female character come to an end, it’s time. And the ending was...well, you’ll just have to read it!

Thanks to Netgalley, Bantam, and Dean Koontz for an advance reading copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. Other Koontz books in this series include The Silent Corner, The Whispering Room, The Forbidden Door and The Crooked Staircase.

I thought this was a great ending to the series. Although it had several perspectives just as the previous books did, it was not confusing and the science was not overwhelming. There was part that felt a bit contrived, yet it was perfect in its own way. Unfortunately, I can't explain it any better than that without giving away the ending to not only this book but the whole series and that would be a shame. This series is definitely worth a read and it is complete now so it is the perfect time to work your way through it. 4.5★

While it's been an exciting read with lots of action (everywhere), some likeable characters and some really despicable ones, the only ones that felt real to me were some of the minor ones that helped Jane along all 2,329 pages.

This should have been a much shorter read... maybe 2 books only. But I guess it was worthwhile if one doesn't mind thesaurus vomit and overly detailed and repetitive descriptions of gourmet foods, men's clothing, the luxury of a Bespoke Mercedes Wagon, blah, blah blah.

DNF. It took me ten days to read only 200 pages, or so. There’s a good story hidden somewhere in here, but it’s buried under Dean Koontz’s bloated, purple prose. This “action” series has had the forward motion of a truck stuck in mud since book two.

I loved this book. The 'goodie' characters, the plot (the advances in technology have a plus and minus aspect), the sub plots and the beautiful writing of Koontz. So many of the sentences were a joy to read. Beautiful prose.
I've ordered 2 more books in the Jane Hawke series. Unputdownable

Finishing this book brought back feelings similar to those I had after reading the last book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series: I didn't want the journey to end, but I wanted the journey to end. I'm not sure this is the last we'll see of rogue FBI agent Jane Hawk, actually, but if it really does mark the end of this series, it brings a bang-up ending to her battle against mind-controlling powers-that-be who killed her beloved husband and threatened the very existence of society as we know it.

It's been a heck of a ride - this is the fifth book in the series - each and every one a winner in my book (in order, The Silent Corner, The Whispering Room, The Crooked Staircase and The Forbidden Door). I will say, though, that while the books do stand alone, each builds on its predecessors, so I strongly recommend starting at the beginning if you're new to the series and want to maximize enjoyment thereof.

At the heart of the adventures is a secret but ever-expanding group called the Arcadians, who use implanted nanotechnology to infiltrate the minds of their victims and control their words and actions (and I won't even get into all the things they do to torture people). By this time, a large number of humans all over the country have been "adjusted," as the process is called - and it's been next to impossible to determine who's been infected (and thus, who can be trusted). Jane is determined to bring the group down, but in the process she's had to go to monumental lengths to avoid capture and hide her precious young son in the hope of keeping him safe. She's had a rough time of it in the preceding books, but so far both she and Travis - he with more than a little help from her friends - have eluded capture.

But it's getting much harder; at every twist, turn and corner are cameras loaded with face-recognition software that renders disguises like wigs and make-up virtually useless. Behind every stranger lurks the possibility of an Arcadian or a person whose mind is being controlled by them. As this story begins, Jane is researching mega-billionaire Warwick Hollister, who may be at the top of the ringleader chain. Meanwhile, oblivious to Jane's investigation, the egomaniacal Hollister is entertaining his twisted side by playing catch-and-don't-release in the snow with a terrified victim.

A few chases and near-misses later, Jane hooks up with FBI guy Vikram Rangnekar, a computer nerd with a larger-than-life crush on Jane. Young Travis, too, is facing unforeseen danger; it seems someone with an eye on a big payday has stumbled upon the boy and his identity. Jane's Spidey senses tell her he's in danger - but can she find a way to save him without losing them both (literally and figuratively)?

Don't expect me to answer; you'll just have to read it for yourself. At this point, there's nothing left for me to say except thank you to the author for an exciting series and the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy. Over and out!

This is definitely a series that any fan of the techno thriller genre won't want to miss. Be sure to start at the beginning and read the books in order for maximum enjoyment. This title brings the fast and furious tale to a close and, as I've said since I finished THE SILENT CORNER, this collection should definitely be made into a miniseries or a single blockbuster movie on the big screen!

What's it about -- well, in a nutshell: "Nanoweb brain implants; adjusted people shorn of free will, memories edited; human beings turned into bio machines programmed to kill; thousands on the Hamlet list slated for extermination...the Arcadian story" of utopia with unimagined power and riches for those at the top tier. And only one woman, ex FBI agent, Jane Hawk, might be able to bring it all down. She's been on the run using every possible evasion technique and trick since her husband committed suicide. She's hidden her 5-year-old son, Travis, from those who seek to use him as a bargaining chip to trap her. She has a few good souls on her side, however, and perhaps she can come up with a plan to foil the rise of the Techno Arcadians and save America. NO SPOILERS.

The writing is typical Dean Koontz verbosity with endless detail, simile and metaphor but the pace is fast and the bad guys are REALLY bad. Lots of action, dramatic description of maiming and murder, and the eventual climactic struggle between good and evil where the good guys win! We hope.

I've really enjoyed this series and was happy with the author's departure from the supernatural bent as this was slightly more believable and I prefer tentative reality. I have read almost every book Koontz has written -- a huge collection with lots of variety and some quite interesting and strange characters. Although sorry to reach the end of a fun series, I'm looking forward to finding out what subject Koontz will tackle next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bantam Books for the e-book ARC to read and review. Don't miss it!

So, a book or two ago, I was mightily upset with our author. While I still loved Jane and was still very much into the series, I was…not pleased…with some decisions the author made. And I wasn’t the only one.

Well, in a case of what surely must be an author listening to his loyal readers, Mr. Koontz pulled it all together!

Now, based on this book I’m assuming we’re at the end of Jane’s Saga – and Mr. Koontz pulls this ending off in fine (and seriously exciting) style!

He pulls out all the stops and gives readers a slam-bang ending that just feels right!

Should I be wrong, and there’s more Jane in our future, I’ll be happy. But if this is the end, I think that this book ends just the way it should.

Very, very happy with this read!

KoontzLand - May/June 2019 group read

Thanks to Random House & our Koontzland group, for the ARC copy.

A well-written Jane Hawk triller & mystery - she’s able to do everything! A “Beautiful” heroine, most wanted fugitive, x-FBI “rogue” agent, admired for her courage & the series ends showing she’s able to defeat anyone & solve any problem thrown her way.

In this book - she must defeat the “Techo Arcadians”, find/protect her son Travis (5 yrs old) & prove her husband Ken, was a murder not suicide.

Jane teams with the sophisticated Vikram Rangnekar(30). Computer “white-hat” hacker, a 2-week resigned FBI agent. They must defeat Warwick Wainwright Hollister (Wayne). His “Arcadian” philosophy with powerful “rayshaws” - mind-controlled & “brain-washed” to take over of the world.

I enjoyed the exciting & overwhelming chases bet. Wayne/Tom the most. Tom Buckle(26) a filmmaker to be one of Wayne’s key members. Ordered to murder & rape his neighbor’s daughter - but doesn’t.
Wayne can command anyone!! Wayne must punish Tom’s disobedience himself, in a surprising, enjoyable, hunt & escapes thru snow-filled woods!!

Jane’s torment with Travis(son) - protect & hide him safely in friend’s house - Scottsdale, Arizona from a "villain”. Who is out to capture, hurt and/or demand ransom...

Jane’s goal is to prove was Nick’s (husband) death - Suicide or Murder?
She is out to prove that her husband did not take his own life & discovers that there are many others that didn't either. She tracks, runs & finally is able to exposes the evil persons that are behind a plan to control the world.

Another great Koontz book!! You will love it from the beginning to end!!

I have enjoyed the Jane Hawk series tremendously and this installment doesn’t disappoint. Jane’s kick-ass character, the storyline and high tech gadgetry feel fresh and new. Jane’s street/tech smarts shine through again as she vigilantly works to expose powerful and ruthless bad guys.

The man seemingly at the top of this dark network, Wainwright Hollister, believes “people are tools, unless they decline to be used, whereupon they become merely obstructions that must be broken and quickly swept aside - or eliminated entirely.” Hollister proves this is not a bluff early in the book to his newly invited houseguest Thomas Buckle.

One of the most compelling aspects of the story revolves around Thomas Buckle, a fledgling movie director summoned to Wainwright’s house and who unwittingly becomes a pawn in Wainwright’s sick game. I was completely sucked in. Thanks to Random House Publishing-Ballantine for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. A great series.

Fantastic character development paired with a fast pace, and non-stop action. This is part of a series, but could easily be read as a stand alone novel. Jane Hawk is a wonderful heroine and definitely one of his best written. There are only a few male authors that I can always count on to really get the female psyche right, and he’s done it yet again.
In this conclusion, to his 5 part series, Koontz dives into what could go wrong with the technological race we find ourselves in, and it’s so believable, that it’s terrifying. His exploration of evil always leaves me a bit shaken as well, because his monsters are always walking among us, most wearing “masks”.
