Tres hermanas, narra la historia de tres hermanas y un hermano que ven alterada su rutina con la llegada de unos oficiales de artillería. Cuando creen que su vida cambiará, el hermano contrae matrimonio con la novia que siempre ha estado a la sombra de la familia. Pero ésta aprovechará su nuevo estatus para dar rienda a su autoridad. En El huerto de los cerezos dos hermanos confían en que el tiempo solucionará sus problemas con la finca de la que son propietarios, pero ésta será finalmente subastada y con ella se subastarán también toda una serie de entresijos morales y amorosos.

Born ( Антон Павлович Чехов ) in the small southern seaport of Taganrog, the son of a grocer. His grandfather, a serf, bought his own freedom and that of his three sons in 1841. He also taught to read. A cloth merchant fathered Yevgenia Morozova, his mother.
"When I think back on my childhood," Chekhov recalled, "it all seems quite gloomy to me." Tyranny of his father, religious fanaticism, and long nights in the store, open from five in the morning till midnight, shadowed his early years. He attended a school for Greek boys in Taganrog from 1867 to 1868 and then Taganrog grammar school. Bankruptcy of his father compelled the family to move to Moscow. At the age of 16 years in 1876, independent Chekhov for some time alone in his native town supported through private tutoring.
In 1879, Chekhov left grammar school and entered the university medical school at Moscow. In the school, he began to publish hundreds of short comics to support his mother, sisters and brothers. Nicholas Leikin published him at this period and owned Oskolki (splinters), the journal of Saint Petersburg. His subjected silly social situations, marital problems, and farcical encounters among husbands, wives, mistresses, and lust; even after his marriage, Chekhov, the shy author, knew not much of whims of young women.
Nenunzhaya pobeda , first novel of Chekhov, set in 1882 in Hungary, parodied the novels of the popular Mór Jókai. People also mocked ideological optimism of Jókai as a politician.
Chekhov graduated in 1884 and practiced medicine. He worked from 1885 in Peterburskaia gazeta.
In 1886, Chekhov met H.S. Suvorin, who invited him, a regular contributor, to work for Novoe vremya, the daily paper of Saint Petersburg. He gained a wide fame before 1886. He authored The Shooting Party , his second full-length novel, later translated into English. Agatha Christie used its characters and atmosphere in later her mystery novel The Murder of Roger Ackroyd . First book of Chekhov in 1886 succeeded, and he gradually committed full time. The refusal of the author to join the ranks of social critics arose the wrath of liberal and radical intelligentsia, who criticized him for dealing with serious social and moral questions but avoiding giving answers. Such leaders as Leo Tolstoy and Nikolai Leskov, however, defended him. "I'm not a liberal, or a conservative, or a gradualist, or a monk, or an indifferentist. I should like to be a free artist and that's all..." Chekhov said in 1888.
The failure of The Wood Demon , play in 1889, and problems with novel made Chekhov to withdraw from literature for a period. In 1890, he traveled across Siberia to Sakhalin, remote prison island. He conducted a detailed census of ten thousand convicts and settlers, condemned to live on that harsh island. Chekhov expected to use the results of his research for his doctoral dissertation. Hard conditions on the island probably also weakened his own physical condition. From this journey came his famous travel book.
Chekhov practiced medicine until 1892. During these years, Chechov developed his concept of the dispassionate, non-judgmental author. He outlined his program in a letter to his brother Aleksandr: "1. Absence of lengthy verbiage of political-social-economic nature; 2. total objectivity; 3. truthful descriptions of persons and objects; 4. extreme brevity; 5. audacity and originality; flee the stereotype; 6. compassion." "Tre Systrar" i fyra akter är märklig genom att det förflyter ett par år mellan varje akt. Så pjäsen visar livets flykt, hos mer eller mindre sysslolösa militärer och fyra kvinnor i den utbildade medelklassen. Tjeckov ser ironiskt på livet, personerna lyssnar sällan på varandra, de rör sig i sina egna tankar, hoppas och önskar, tror på förändring, men det mesta fortsätter i samma cirklar - oavsett att åren går. De sysslolösa börjar tänka att 'arbete' måste vara meningen med livet, men när de väl får arbete, tröttar de ut sig, inget är som drömmen.
Allt är stämningsbilder. I synnerhet "Körsbärsträdgården" - en stämningsbild över Ryssland inte långt innan revolutionerna rullar igång. Tänker på Hjalmar Söderbergs som skapade ironiska stämningsbilder från Stockholm vid samma tid.
Tänker också på Rilke som förälskade sig i den Ryska naturen och var rädd för det larmande Paris. Men nu hugger de ner trädgården, alla de vackra körsbärsblommen går om intet ...

Leí solo el huerto de los cerezos porque á me dijo que era de sus obras de teatro favoritas. Esta bien pero yo no desarrollo attachments como él lo hace así que no me caló muy hondo.
+ no entiendo las jerarquías de la rusia rural post-feudal y puede que sea importante saber de eso para leer esto nose (!)
PERO creo que si eres una persona que se encariña fácil con las cosas/gente it hits hard
+! no puedo sentir empatía hacia la gente rica esq soy incapaz un poco feo por mi parte pq tampoco es cosa suya nacer ricos pero ns make amendments si tu familia tuvo esclavos Tan Solo Una Sugerencia

Las obras de Chéjov me parecieron entretenidas, muchos dirán que no pasa nada en la trama pero es la idea. Es muy fácil de leerlas, pasas un buen rato y es fácil de identificarse con los personajes. En las tres obras abarca una gran profundidad sobre el existencialismo y la vida aburrida y mal lograda. En las tres obras hablan sobre el trabajo y que mierda van a hacer con su vida los personajes. Absolutamente TODOS los personajes son un potus donde lo interesante es casarse y tener plata y trabajar. Se muestran los deseos de los personajes al querer salir de esa vida cotidiana pero no lo logran.
Destaco al autor que me parece que estaba muy adelantado a su época y además es un papucho
El jardín de los cerezos me parece una locura, la obra más distinguida de las tres, ya que ese aburrimiento de la vida aparece en la trama y la puedo llegar a comprender (hasta a mí me puso triste que cortaran el árbol).
Cuando recién terminé de leer Tio Vania me pareció que no había pasado nada pero al releerla no podía dejar de emocionarme, me parece que es la mejor obra que habla en sí del sentido de la vida.
Y las tres hermanas también me gustó pero es la que menos me impactó. Me gustó mucho como interactúan los personajes pero lo único que desean es irse a Moscú y luego termina en nada. Es la idea pero comparando queda abajo

Iniciando otra obra de teatro de Chéjov, El jardín de los Cerezos. 🍒😏
Le doy 3* Está interesante , pero es una obra de teatro corta. Por ahora mi favorita sigue siendo El Tío Vania.
Es una gran finca en Rusia antes de la revolución pero ya iban notándose cambios , ricos que cada vez lo eran menos, siervos liberados, el ferrocarril , trabajadores que empezaban a ganar dinero y poder tener tierras, algunos con poca formación y maneras...aquí se deja entrever la crítica a un nuevo digamos rico hecho así mismo pero sin las buenas formas de los antiguos señores.
La nostalgia de la infancia , el pasado , los recuerdos y saber que ya nada será igual. En la postura de la madre , que al final vuelve a París , pues no puede vivir de sueños , sin una visión práctica para el dinero ni ganarlo, sólo gastarlo, la visión práctica de la hija q por otro si lo ve , incluso piensa en estudiar y ayudar a su madre.
Como fondo esa hermosa tierra llena de cerezos que otros ven como un pasado que ya no es rentable ,y si la llegada del ferrocarril y las casas de veraneo que se podrán hacer en la zona . La protagonista se desgarra ante la visión de esos proyectos , sólo quiere volver a como vivió su infancia

I'd only read a short story of Chekhov's prior to reading these two plays, though you'll often hear about Chekhov in relation to being intentional with your writing: if you feature a gun in one scene, it must be fired later on, otherwise it's pointless.
I do think a deeper level of knowledge about Russian history, particularly the freeing of the serfs, is required to appreciate the atmosphere of The Cherry Orchard, but even without that knowledge the play is an interesting look-in to Russian society at that time and looks ahead to a future of globalization and holiday homes: a society with no roots, anywhere.
Perhaps in no other playwright do the anxieties of modern man so suffuse the work as to be unavoidable.

Tycker hans pjäser svänger mellan nattsvart hopplöshet och vardaglig spleen, han själv tyckte tydligen inte att det var så nattsvart för - "det är ju så vardagen ser ut". Blir inte direkt muntrar för det. Kan bara konstatera att det inte var jättekul att vara borgare på rysk landsbygd runt förra sekelskiftet.

Para interpretar escena entre Natascha y Olia se ve la lucha de poder y el cambio entre el burgues que hace y la muerte de los aristocratas que solo ven a Olia "le pesa mucho" trabajar y Natascha es ... un personaje para decirlo así... pero es porque quiere aparentar algo que no es. Por lo menos hace.

The Three Sisters. Shamefully I have never read anything by Chekov, or even seen a play, but a conversation with Vera, a very friendly and lovely nurse, prompted me to read this and I'm glad I did. At first it was 'Huh? Nothing's happening!' but then I realised that was the point. A forerunner to 'Waiting for Godot' and other masterpieces, this put a whole new twist on theatre. Thank you, Vera.

När jag köpte boken förstod jag inte att det var två pjäser i den, jag trodde det var två noveller. Har alltid varit lite skeptisk till att läsa pjäser, men de här två var verkligen bra. Kanske var det för att jag inte hade så höga förväntningar, eller så var de helt enkelt riktigt bra.

Humoristisk absurdism – distans mellan replikerna och karaktärerna, finns hela tiden tomrum och tolkningstvång i rörelsen framåt. Skulden som viktigt tema (livegenskapens upphörande) – överklassens blindhet för sitt eget fall. Platsen (heterotopin) som symbol för tradition, kanske för ett paradisiskt stillastående, ändå blir rörelsen därifrån förlösande för så gott som alla karaktärer...

Cherry Orchard was okay, but Three Sisters was very thought provoking. It is amazing to compare the difference in each characters’ responses to life, suffering, and how to move on in the world.
The characters speak in almost speeches with a depth of thinking that is not common today.

In Three Sisters we follow the titular characters through the years as their upper class life comes and falters, punctuated by melancholy and a longing for a simpler past. They push and are pulled in different directions and at the end it is mostly hard to know whether any character will find much satisfaction.
The Cherry Orchard is focused on change as the family home with the orchard is to be auctioned off. It is largely indicative of changes in Russian society at the time it was written and pretty dense with ideas (which is nicely summed up on Wikipedia).
With odd details and story strands that don't seem to come from or lead anywhere in particular, Chekhov did a few of the same things and received a lot of the same criticisms as the Coen brothers. Stories with little closure or catharsis don't come natural to how we expect them to work and are usually rather out to shine a light on our expectations and how we approach them. In these plays, Chekhov seems to be out to use this unintuitive fashion of storytelling to reflect a complicated and uncertain time and society, it's sort of using stories to illustrate the limitations of stories.
Which is all very well put together but it is often also so mercilessly melancholic. It can work if you're in the mood for it but The Big Lebowski had more fun along the way.

Which is all very well put together but it is often also so mercilessly melancholic. It can work if you're in the mood for it but The Big Lebowski had more fun along the way.

Es mi primer autor ruso y quizá lea a más autores en el futuro pero conecté a medias con éste. No sési estoy listo para Tres Hermanas pero me pareció demasiado sutil, aunque El Jardín de los Cerezos me agradó más. Quizá no fue el momento correcto para este tipo de literatura.
