Rider Dillinger likes who he is, and he knows what he wants. He works hard for one of the toughest teachers on campus and he likes to unwind the same way any other twenty-something does; with sex. When his friends with benefits arrangement ends badly, Rider finds himself at the school health clinic where he meets campus nurse, Eli James. Rider thinks this will be a simple hook-up, but he doesn’t count on the connection that forms between them. He sees this as his golden opportunity to tell Eli his secret desires, after all, what has he got to lose?

Eli James was enamored with Rider from the moment he saw him. His round eyes, and pouty, innocent mouth hid a man who wanted sinfully delicious things. The idea of sharing Rider appeals to Eli, but only on his terms. As they navigate a relationship based on emotional exclusivity and sexual variety, they end up falling deeper and deeper in love.

When an event neither see coming rocks their world, Rider knows he needs to do something drastic to rectify the situation or risk losing Eli to the crushing weight of guilt.

Hell, this was so hot!

CW: sharing with multiple people

Rider has a kink, a secret desire he couldn’t ever share with someone before. When he meets Eli their romance starts out quickly but before they were emotionally in too deep, Rider confesses that he fantasises about being used by several men while someone he cares about is watching.

I loved that Eli not only agreed to experience this fantasy with Rider but also got involved. He chose the guys himself and made rules to ensure Rider’s safety and that of their relationship.

And I loved even more that Eli felt a smidge of possessiveness and got a thrill out of that experience, knowing Rider was his and would return into his arms. That the other men could have him physically for a moment but have no claim on him at all.

Eli wanting to pin Rider down and fuck him. He wanted to cover him in marks, and cum, and make sure everyone knew who he belonged to. Rider was his. His to keep, and kiss, and hold. His to share and look after. His to enjoy in whatever way Rider wanted to be enjoyed.

Otherwise Rider and Eli were so sweet with each other, so considerate of the other one’s feeling, it was wonderful. *swoon

I enjoyed this a whole lot and am now super curious about the three man who own the second book and we all met already in this one.

A Joyfully Jay review.

So this is kind of a non-traditional romance story, but I think Denning totally makes this relationship work. Eli and Rider have an open relationship of sorts; they don’t date others, but from time to time they gather a group of men to have sex with Rider while Eli watches. It is a long-held fantasy of Rider’s and when he works up the nerve to tell Eli about it, it turns out that the idea makes Eli hot as well. So this book is probably not for everyone, as we have graphic scenes of group sex and sex outside of the primary relationship. But if you are all cool with that, I think there is a lot to offer in this story. Denning really showcases the intense love these men have for one another and I never doubted the depth of their feelings and their strong romantic connection. They are sexy and sweet and romantic and I loved the way these guys support each other and take care of one another.

I don’t usually rate books I DNF (unless I pass the 50% mark), but I just cannot understand all the 5 star reviews here. The subject of this book completely drew me in and I was so excited to read a new author. Was I actually reading the same book everyone else was reading? I got to 40% and had to call it quits. Some sentences didn’t even make sense while others were complete run on sentences with a bunch of commas. This book had a great premise, but there was no substance to it. I love reading smut, but I expect more from the authors I read. This book was in dire need of a proofreader.

I was intrigued by the sharing concept of this story but the writing style didn’t work for me. Personally If I’m reading a story that’s mostly smut then I expect that smut to be damn good. I didn’t find the sharing concept unappealing, it was the way it was written that didn’t hold my interest. I found it light on certain details, repetitive and unrealistic but not in a good way. There are some sweet cute moments between the MC’s but not a lot else that captivated me. I did like the concept that the author was going for with the nature of their relationship but the execution didn’t work for me.

The plot is not heavily developed and is very instalove, it does try to have depth but I wasn’t feeling it and wish I did.

In general there was editing and grammar issues and simple things like at one point Eli is 26, another time 28. Different situations with characters jobs in healthcare and how things occurred were also so unbelievable and on top of everything else this just added to things that didn’t work for me with the final plot point resolution being the nail in the coffin. I’m often happy to ignore lack of realism but it kept throwing me out of the story here. I wish I could have enjoyed this more but the more I think about it the more things I find that frustrated me.

I also think the way they go about things isn’t particularly accurate in terms of safe sex and STI’s. Once again I often look past this but it’s a main point that Eli is a nurse and works in the testing clinic so I expected him to be shown to more knowledgeable.

Also a trigger warning for one of the opening scenes which has a ‘stealthing incident’ - anal sex where the MC is not enjoying it and then the other person removes the condom and comes in him without his consent. I feel like this could be uncomfortable for some readers.

The good
+ Eli taking Rider's needs seriously right from the start
+ Eli taking an active part in Rider's needs, instead of staying at the sidelines
+ Rider feeling absolutely secure with Eli
+ How they both keep saying they love the other 'half as much'. It's ridiculous and stinking cute
+ Rider making new friends through Eli
+ How both of them feel confident and good about themselves around the other
+ The total trust they have in each other, and how they never doubted their feelings
+ Eli calling Mason out for what he did
+

The neutral
o Rider talking to Leroy (I guess that was his name?) because he was Eli's friend and a therapist was a little weird to me. Just because someone is your friend doesn't mean you can just demand favors. Eli should have asked first
o The storyline with Rider's mom ended a little anticlimactic. I didn't really agree with the way Rider handled that, but well, it's up to him I suppose
o

The bad
- This book contains false information about STDs. Rider goes to the clinic initially because his friend-with-benefits stealthed him and came inside him without a condom. That same day, before Rider had his test results, he had unprotected oral sex with Eli. Oral sex can still spread STDs! Then later, when they're discussing the rules about gangbangs, Rider insists on condoms for penetrative sex only. Unprotected oral sex is fine. Again, unprotected oral sex can cause STDs! Use protection, please!
-

I really enjoyed this book. It would have been a five-star read, had it not been for the unsafe sex. I absolutely adored the connection between Eli and Rider, and how they handled everything together. They always sought each other out, never pushed away. They're perfect for each other. Would definitely recommend to people who know they should use protection when engaging in oral sex.

I made it to 85% and then just skimmed to the end. The whole incident popped up and I just couldn't help thinking that it was inevitable especially dealing with college kids. I couldn't really get past that. It's a a huge stretch of the imagination that most of the football players were involved in the WHOLE situation from when they came into the picture until they left. I mean I am sure there are gay/bi players but not that many on one team or who are out.

And there's the fact that it's mostly the Rider story with Eli almost being a secondary character if he hadn't have had his own POV. It was mostly sex with some plot sprinkled in but that's not necessarily a huge problem with me but it wasn't as hot as I would have liked.

Not to mention that the writing style was not my favorite and in need of some desperate editing. I read the blurbs on the other books in this series and nothing is very compelling to me so I doubt if I will be continuing with this author.

This was actually a very pleasant surprise! This author has been on my radar for a while but I had never giving her a chance yet. And this book was totally unknown to me, until I saw the author marketing it on instagram and the tagline called me in: "Emotionally endearing gangbangs". Mmmm, yeah, I was curious!

And the book delivers what the tagline promises and more. To be honest, I thought this was going to be a much shorter story, going straight to the smut, without much of a plot. But I loved getting to know Rider and Eli, seeing what made them tick, what else was going on in their lives, etc. I thought Rider was super brave opening to Eli so soon in their relationship about his most secret desires, but we had seen how well they worked together, how well they fit, so Rider's gamble paid off.

You have to have some suspension of disbelief though to read this book. For me it felt a bit incredible that EVERYONE that Eli talked to was ok with having a gangbang and sharing like that. I mean, he manages to pull 3 different groups of about 6 to 8 people each time. That's a lot of men, some of them who may not even be gay? But still, if you decide to ignore that, the story is hot and cute and funny, and I really enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved it!!

You know what was best? None of those pissy on again off again romances. Needs were voiced and fulfilled, bringing them even closer than they were before.

The sex was unbelievably hot and they never once lost sight of each other.

Fantastic!

It's no secret that I love Ms Denning's books and this one is just perfect...I loved Rider and Eli right away....They were just perfect together....Eli looked after Rider just right......I know some people might not like books where the MC's sleep with other people but it really isn't cheating in this....Eli gives Rider what he loves and that's to be used whilst Eli watches....The hot scenes really are so damn hot.....Eli is always there for Rider especially when things go wrong....An amazing book and one I will definitely be re-reading x

Sometimes You Meet Someone and You Just Know!

A tale of a hookup, first date, kinky fantasy for Rider & Eli. This should be 3 1/2 ⭐️s. I like the storyline, simple yet intriguing. I liked the MC’s, the pacing, even a bit of a fairytale (I don’t think the sports team would get involved). Well written, solid story.

Beautifully done!

This was such a wonderful story. I love how he author approached this. There are only a few author's who can write kink while showing the respect and understanding it deserves and E. M. Denning has shown here that's she's on that list. Eli and Rider are great characters. There is so much to work with here and I hope to see much more.

This would've been a 4 star read if only it had been better edited, the number of sentence splices were extremely annoying. However, these two characters and their relationship was lovely, and the sex was smoking hot. I'm sure I'll be reading the other book in the series, so hopefully the editing is a bit better.

2019 = 2 stars
2023 = DNF / review written

This is a shallow series that lacks depth, with few details or descriptions. The stories are heavily focused on sex. They feel very "insta" — everything happens quickly and unbelievably.

🤢 It starts out with Rider having sex with his F-buddy, Mason. It's nasty, b/c Rider doesn't want to have anal sex after eating three burritos and chili. Mason not only does it anyways, but he doesn't use a condom. Rider gets mad and kicks him out.

Rider, an English major and T.A., meets Eli, a nurse, at a health clinic. Due to the Mason incident, Rider is waiting to have an STD test done. Afterward, Rider and Eli have sex.

At 8%, Rider thinks: He could get used to the all-consuming feeling of Eli kissing him. He didn't know him from a hole in the wall, but he kissed Rider as if he were air and he touched him as if he were something Eli needed to have. Rider breathed in the feeling and found himself intoxicated by this man. It was stupid, he'd just met him.

14%: He craved the feeling he got when Eli was near him, like his skin was on fire and his heart would explode. Rider didn't believe in fate or soulmates or any of that other stuff. But he believed in his own intuition, and his heart (along with both of his heads) told him he wanted to keep Eli for as long as possible.

Three sex scenes later:
19%: Rider says he wants to have sex with several men while Eli watches.
Operation gangbang is now being planned.

At 25%, insta-love happens.

That is where I stopped. When I originally read this, I was new to m/m and much easier to please. Thankfully, my tastes have improved.

Wow! Something different to what I normally read but oh so worth it!
The writing of this story by E.M. Denning is completely absorbing, diving headfirst into a relationship between Rider and Eli. Though it's a quickly moving relationship, it's packed out with enough emotion, connection and interaction that you can't fail to see them working well together.
Rider is a TA and studying at university and Eli is a nurse at the clinic. We get to see a little of their separate lives but most of the story is the two men together, developing their friendship and relationship, date nights and exploration. The way that they work so well together allows for each being so perfect for the other, especially with Eli wanting to provide everything that Rider could ever want, both in every day life and his fantasies. Their lives also come together well with Rider's family and Eli's friends being a big part in certain areas of the book.
One of my favourite things about the two is that everything is talked about. With such events as what happens in their relationship, it's a massively important aspect and E.M. makes sure to cover it well. There is no shame in what the two men have, or what they choose to do and that came across so very well.
This book contains a committed between two men but also the occurrences of multiple partners during sex.
I cannot recommend this book enough. The story is fully engaging and I was highly invested in the outcome, rooting for their HEA. Looking forward to book 2 in the Upstate Education series.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review

3.5 rounded to 4

What an interesting little book. I really liked the pairing of Eli and Rider. Their dynamic was so fun to read. I love that we got a sex positive couple. I also loved that Eli was secure enough in his relationship with Rider to allow them to explore.

The scenes between Rider and the others were hot and well written, though I thought the after effects details were a little light. Clearly, Rider would have been sore for several days after taking multiple guys, but we get barely a mention of that. Still, that’s a nitpick.

The topic I was so happy to see addressed was stealthing. I’ve not read a book where this is called exactly what it is: assault. Mason assaulted Rider and I’m glad Eli called him out on that. In addition to stealthing, I was happy to see the inequality in persecution for sex tapes addressed as well. Rider made some excellent points near the end of the book and I was cheering him on.

This is the first book I have read by the author, but it won’t be my last.

I have been wanting to read this since I found out what it was about and the fact that I loved her other work’s made it easy to snatch it up as soon as it was released.

Rider is adorable and..........I feel like I open with that on every review but damn it these author’s know how to make the most adorable characters no matter the situation’s they find themselves in. Rider is no exception to this trend, when he meets Eli he begins to gain confidence in himself in little ways. The way they came together might be a little odd to some but I loved it (maybe not the reason but the final result.

Eli is such a sweetheart he loves his job at the campus med center though it is small and he is under appreciated by the higher ups. When he meets Rider he doesn’t know what he is in for. It is a wild and sexy ride and all he can do is hold on and enjoy ever thing that happens, and boy does he ever!

DNF @ 21%.

I don't mind smut, but I prefer it to serve as a side dish to the plot, not act as the entree.

I do appreciate the author's warning at the beginning of the book, in regards to the relationship & kink (not that I had any issues there). I do wish that there had been a warning that there was no real plot, unless you count kink negotiation as plot.

I'm also not a fan of instantaneous relationships. Rider and Eli hook up once, go on one date and then BAM! They're a couple ("emotional monogamy, sexual variety"). I probably would have been more on board if it we got to see more of Rider and Eli getting to know each other before jumping into a committed relationship.

On top of all that, the writing was very bland. One chapter in, I was already skimming and my attention was wandering.

E.M. Denning is a new-to-me author, and I have to say, the writing in this book doesn't instill much desire to give any other books from her a go.

This is a book that I went into with reservations. I was concerned about some of the aspects of this book but I have to say that EM Denning did such a fantastic job with this book. Rider and Eli are so good together and make such a cute couple. The love and respect that the two have for each other make it so that the nature of their relationship never once made me uncomfortable. The way that Eli looks after Rider and takes care of him and his needs made me want to hug him and love him. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more in this series from EM Denning.

What a freaking fuck fest! OK, I love reading MM, I love reading MMM, but MMMMMMM is a teensy bit much for me it seems. THOSE parts made be all squirmy and I don't mean in that hot, pleasurable way, I felt uncomfortable, it turned me off. Believe me, I'm surprised at myself. The other half of the book was very enjoyable, a nice gentle love story with two lovely young men, very nicely written. I noticed some complaints of editing and placement, I never noticed any of that myself, it was a smooth read for me.

“I really am. You should stick with your strengths.”

“And what would those be?”

Rider pulled away and looked up at Eli. He sounded uncharacteristically shy when he spoke, batting his tear-damp lashes. “You’re good at loving me.”

“I am, aren’t I?” Eli agreed as he scooped Rider up into his arms. The food could wait, or get thrown away. It didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered to him was Rider. He carried him to his room and laid him on the bed, stretching over top of him. “It’s because you’re easy to love.”

“I’m so lucky.” Eli whispered against Rider’s skin as he slid Rider’s shirt up his body and tugged it off him. “I’m lucky because I found you. I’m lucky because you gave me a chance. I’m lucky because you love me half as much as I love you.” Eli whispered in not quite dark room where the only other sound was Rider’s breathing and his own pulse hammering in his head.

“Only half as much?” Rider huffed, sounding amused. “Your love math isn’t very flattering.”

“It’s because I love you immeasurably, so to have you love me even half as much as I love you, it’s still immeasurable. And it’s a miracle. And I’m lucky. And I swear it made sense a minute ago.” Eli laughed through his embarrassment.

Rider laughed softly and stroked his fingers through Eli’s hair. “I’m the lucky one, because you love me half as much as I love you.”

“That’s no fair, you’re the brilliant writer. Get your own material.” Eli tugged at Rider’s pants pulling them down with his briefs, peppering his body with kisses as he did so.

“I’m not that brilliant.”

“You are. You will win every single one of those contests.”

Rider laughed, either at Eli’s confidence in him, or because the inside of his thighs were ticklish and Eli had gently feathered his fingertips down them. “You’re delusional.”

“You’ll win something. You’re too good not to.”

“I already won you. That’s all I need.”

___________

Amazing start to a new series. Rider and Eli are one of the most unique couples I've read about. Right off the bat the plot and dynamics of these guys grabbed me because I've never read something like this before. To have two people come together with explosive chemistry and a insta-deep love for each other but have one want a sexual open relationship was crazy to me. This works perfectly though from start to finish. Eli is a strong solid rock that Rider needs, being able to control the experiences and give Rider what he needs also gives him what he craves. Rider is unique, inspiring and adorable. To be able to not only voice what you need to feel complete but go for it and be happy despite it not being common or understandable to some is so brave. If you're hesitant about this type of book definitely give it a try, these two are one of my favorite couples and their relationship is rock solid. Add in great side characters and friends that I want to know more about and am hooked. Can't wait for the next.

Oh my god, SO hot, SO sexy and SO full of love.

Not my usual trope but I just HAD to give this one a try and oh my god, I am SO happy that I did. I fell completely in love with Eli and Rider. Two guys with a lot of insecurities but also a huge capacity to love and be loved. They each knew what they wanted and needed but getting to that place of trust they had to reach to open their hearts and share what was most hidden within them made for a complex and fascinating journey.

This is not a 'no one but you will ever touch me' book. These two guys get off on the hot, the sexy, and a bit of the unusual and it ALL makes for a fantastic ride. But what comes through the strongest in this amazing book is the love these two men share. It brought tears to my eyes. No matter what difficulty they face it is their love for each other that brings them to peace and healing. I loved this book and HIGHLY recommend it!!

Salty the cat 🐈‍⬛

This was a first for me.. I’d never before read a story where the main characters had a relationship built on emotional exclusivity yet physical freedom (yeah.. with some rules).

I think Rider was right.
If he hadn’t shared his deep desires early on with Eli things may not have gone down as successfully between them as they did.
Eli struck me as a uniquely possessive kind of man. So long as he was in control all was well. This was tested with the whole video incident, he could’ve crumbled I think, but in that moment Rider was stronger and reminded Eli that the relationship bond they’d been building was strong enough to ride it out.

I liked this story, it was an enjoyable, if not an eye opening read for me.

I liked both the main characters and most of the supporting characters too.

And, btw, I’m totally stealing the name Salty for my next cat!!

Hot, fun and emotionally rewarding. The campus setting was just right for the meeting between TA Rider and student health clinic nurse, Eli, where a hook-up became something more.

I felt we really got to know both characters in depth, both really likeable guys, with great banter between them but also with a level of emotional depth as we got to know their friends and family.

I really felt the tension when Rider was brave enough to voice his needs to Eli, emphasising the growing trust between them. The honesty of their discussion and their communication throughout the story really made me believe in them and their love. The group sex scenes, written from Rider's point of view, rather than being a complex and explicit game of Twister, focussed much more on his feelings and sensations, with Eli always in his focus.

I really enjoyed the author's breezy writing style which always included all the feels.

Near perfect

I love this story. This author is new to me and so is the trope of this book. I went into it hoping the end would turn out different than it did but totally changed my mind as I got into it. It’s near perfect...the only problem I have with it is the writing. There were several errors in wording and grammar that sadly took me out of the story for moments each time. I can usually handle some errors but this was different. So I’m giving the story and awesome characters 5 stars but the writing errors would normally bring my rating to a 3 if I didn’t stop reading it altogether. But since I couldn’t wait to learn more about these men and their beautiful love, I’m sticking with the 5 stars. I’m hoping book 2 - which I’m reading next - has way less wording/grammar issues for me.

This book was like a Hallmark movie with kink. Majorly sweet and extremely low angst. Even The Big Incident was resolved quickly and easily. Some people may see it as too unrealistic.

The sex was exactly my cup of tea. For the most part when it was just the two of them it was very slow and sweet and full of feelings. Maybe not always the hottest, but the romance was off the charts. I found the scenes where Eli “shares” Rider very hot (I’ll use the term “share” from the blurb to remain spoiler free). And the connection and love between Eli and Rider was still very palpable.

So hence the “Hallmark with kink” analogy. It was a little light on plot and the sex did get a bit repetitive due to the frequency. This was my first book by this author, and I enjoyed this one enough to try another one.
