Question? Does being a gawky boy, who loves fantasy novels make you popular in high school? No, but who cares? Total Lies! A few people did care or at least had some choice opinions, bummer. So the boy, teenager, whatever pronoun, tried ignoring the cliché bullies like the jocks, and the mean girls, major mistake. So he got stealthy, kept his head down, went uber quiet, and tried on social invisibility. Mega bad fit, and having no tailor, hardcore disaster! Then something sorta extraordinary happened and like magic, everything changed. Bitchin huh?
Short story by a new-to-me author. The cover art hooked me in (so cute!), blurb sounded interesting and the short free sample was promising. Coming out at the finish line I have no idea what I just read.
There was fantasy type magic but most memorable a lingo I struggled to grasp as a non-native English speaker. I still have no clue what 'divi-lyfer' could possible mean. None! The unusual spoken dialogue did fit the young age of the characters though. The story had a spark and energy I liked. What could be improved is the writing style/editing towards the end. There run-in sentences becomes the norm, making it even harder for me as the reader to process what's going on.
For me the book was a nice little venture into the unknown, but not a genre or theme I'm typically drawn to.
