Spirit is fine. Living a life she didn't chose, keeping secrets she never wanted, on a mountain covered in darkness. But everything's fine. She can handle it all. Including the deputy making her life harder than it has to be. In more ways than one. **** Jerrik used to be good at his job. That was before he had to fight something he couldn't see. Chase someone who was always two steps ahead of him. And try to get a tiny woman to come off the mountain. That might be damn near impossible.
Back to the Appalachian Mountains and Bigfoot shifter Jerrik, and the woman he loves, Spirit.
The town is growing, the crazy is growing too with more black witchcraft showing up. Spirit is still living way up the mountain and Jerrik is still worrying, she thinks that no-one knows she is the local source of quality speciality moonshine and that this will cause a problem for Jerrik who is one of the local deputies. She has loved Jerrik from afar for years because of this belief, even tho his sister is her best friend and helps with the brewing and buys and sells it in her bar. When it all finally comes out, Jerrik knew all along, as did most of the county, and no one was gonna turn in the best moonshine brewer in the state, no matter what. Even when she was underage, they bought her shine and said nothing. But Spirit has a secret admirer, one who is willing to use black magic to make her his, the same evil person who kidnapped Lance and his baby daughter.
If you're looking for a heartwarming and adventurous read, look no further than Janice Whiteaker's 'Mountain Calling' series. I fell in love with the first book and couldn't wait to get my hands on the next one, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Jerrick and Spirits' love story is one for the ages, and the setting of the mountains adds an extra layer of charm to the already captivating story. But let's talk about the real star of the show - the moonshine. Whiteaker's vivid descriptions of the homemade brew will have you craving a sip with every page turn. It's not just a love story, it's a love letter to the mountains and the traditions that make them so special. So grab a jar of moonshine and cozy up with this book, you won't regret it.
This book is my favourite of the series so far. Love these characters. Jerrik in the previous books was always short tempered and we find out why in this here.
Spirit’s a complete mystery and in this book she comes into her own. She grows and becomes tougher and more independent.
Jerrik just wants to protect her, but she’s more than capable of protecting herself, much at his expense and her amusement. He tries so hard to get a tiny woman to come off the mountain but Spirit is stubborn, headstrong and defiant but also in danger.
Keeping her safe is his job. His responsibility. He will do anything to protect her whether she wants him to, or not. Their journey is full of danger, romance, misunderstandings, action and family. Such an entertaining read.
Deputy Jerrik Wolffensen has been covering his attraction to Spirit for years it’s getting harder to keep his distance. But Spirit has so much news for him! She’s not the sweet innocent mountain girl he thinks, she’s a woman, fully grown that has secrets of her own, including why she stays alone on the mountain. Maybe she can shock him into seeing her as she is!
Jerrik’s noticed and uses his job as an excuse to come to Spirit’s doorstep twice daily. That’s good and bad for her, good because yum! But bad because of her secrets plus Spirit thinks a Bigfoot has been coming closer to her house her mountain that always had a bit of darkness is getting darker. But why? Could it be the same darkness that targeted Kari and Vanessa? Rating: 4.5stars
I can't get enough of this series... Two of the most stubborn people on the mountain, well there's is Magni, but let's get down to brass tacks... Jerrick is having a hard time controlling the beast within when ever he's around Spirit, and Spirit has been living on a mountain due to Guilt and Secrets of her own. Spirit may have trust issues but weather she knew it or not, she's had an entire family looking out for her wellbeing all along. As Christian told Spirit one day "Have Faith in the one you left your Trust with" not sure if that's the word for word phrase, but that's good advice for everyone. Now I'm off to read what happens next!!!! Happy Reading Everyone!
I am seriously addicted to this series and these characters.
This author is so easy to read and enjoy. I didn't expect Spirit to be harboring the secrets that she held, but I love that she is so strong and just perfect for Jerrick.
I recommend reading this series in order for the best experience and to avoid spoilers. These characters are easy to connect with and enjoy, and I finished this book much to quickly for my liking! Thank goodness there's more to come in this storyline! Because I just can't get enough.
Obviously I recommend this series, and this author. I additionally suggest reading more from this talented and creative author, who consistently provides engaging, steamy, suspenseful, and addictive reads.
I enjoy this series as it’s fun and engaging. I appreciate that the women rescue themselves even though it sometimes feels forced. It does seem like no one else lives in this town but this family. They never run across another person unless it’s at the bar, which is just a bit weird to me. Also, Whiteaker does not use commas with her nouns of address. I cannot express how irritating this is when someone speaks directly to another character. I think I cringe every time.
My serious series addiction is growing stronger! Reckoning When the hometown moonshiner falls for the local sheriff, there are bound to be secrets. But when those secrets threaten her life, the whole town rallies to put things right. Intrigue, moonshine, magic, and steam, are served up aplenty. With one book left in the series, I am not ready for it to end, not because the story is lacking but because I am so in love with this family and their small town.
So, 3.5, but not as strong a story as the first three. The author does forget dome story lines for a while - like when/how did Magnitude divorce Lori? And how did Chris get involved in the occult, and why move back at all if he's an adult? I still really like the series and next is Joel's story.
First off, Jerik should have been arrested as a stalker. As a deputy it appears he had no other work to do except to harass Spirit even at the bar when she worked. Apparently he didn't care about trespass laws or leaving when he was told to. It wasn't cute or funny or romantic.
Definitely loved the character growth, especially Spirit's. Glad the mystery was finally solved and the evil taken care of. Looking forward to reading Joel's and Cora's story next. Wouldn't mind Gail finding love or companionship.
It would appear that one part of the problem still leaving a portion to be resolved. Who will be the next female strong enough to balance the last 'bigfoot'? Hats off to the current heroine.
“Jerrik” (Big book 4) by Janice M Whiteaker **Spoiler Alert**
Spirit has been alone since the age of 14 and she has secrets… secrets she can never share and because of these secrets, she knows she can never be with Jerrik. He will only see her as a criminal. He thinks she is sweet and innocent but little does he know she is anything but…
Jerrik has wanted her from a young age but he knows he can never be with her. She is not only his sister’s best friend but she is also too innocent and she could never be with a man/beast like him. He will however always protect her even from herself. She has guts and shows no fear but deep down he knows she was forced to become the woman she is today.
The darkness and the evil surround them but this brings them together as one where they feed of one another’s strengths.
A must read with so much more story. The deceit… the pain suffered… the truths told and a love all-consuming that with conquer all.
Great character build up with so much humour, sass, love and amazing sex scenes that will keep you warm in all the right places ;)

I loved Jerrick and Spirit together they were amazing but it took them a while to realize they belong together. Spirit has loved Jerrick forever but he has never noticed her or so she things, she has her own secrets that she's hiding that she doesn't want him to know about because he's a police officer. Jerrick has been fighting his attraction to Spirit for forever, but it's finally becoming harder to do because something evil is happening in the woods near Spirit's home and he goes to check on her everyday, he also has a big secret that he is part of a Bigfoot shifter clan. I loved this story especially the mystery of what is going on in their town with this darkness lurking around.
While the the story as a whole from all for books is very interesting, the actual pacing, characters and events are not so much. The characters have way to much inner dialog. Events don't match up with ages of characters, for the events that take place, and how long it happens between them. The female characters in a books are completely over the top in the direction the author tries to portray them as. Making the men look gullible, and not a beast at all! The stories are quite slow through out all books as well. I want be reading any more from this author.
Jerrik is book 4 pf the Big Book Series.. its not my favorite but it was a good addition to the series. Spirit was the best part of this story she is amazing character. Jerrik and Spirit had great chemistry at the beginning but it felt weird to me once the story progressed. Loved the story and I am hoping Craig, Cora and Joel get their own stories. Happy Reading !!
I think you'll be more than half in love with Spirit and Jerrick's journey to HEA after the first couple of chapters. Sexy, stubborn, and romantic dialogue as well as some seriously twisted actions that makes this memorable. Intriguing addition to the series!
Ooo creepy stalkers kicked this one up a notch. And poor Spirit. Although Jerrik is hilarious with his thoughts of protecting her from him. The campsite scenes were hilarious.
I’m really obsessed with these books. They’re sweet (hah!), creative, interesting, and very very sexy. I love everything about them. I read them through KU and will go back and buy them for my collection, for sure.
I liked this one. The mystery was good. Spirits secrets were not obvious thank goodness. The love story worked too. My only problem is the bad guys background. I thought the town was small now did they not know. Any way onto the next.
You knew who bad crazy trouble makers were the minute they showed up at bar. You just didn't know why. And their answers were not good enough. The author could have been a better explanation because she left out questions. Again, a drawn out story. SMH
I love the banter between Jerrik & Spirit. It’s adorable and funny and a real treat to watch their relationship develop. The mystery gets solved in this book and it’s exciting.
Wow what a great story. The intrigue and suspense made for compelling reading..Jim almost sorry this bit is over. Looking forward to reading the next few books.
