WHAT A BANGER!!
Here’s the thing. I honestly expected very little of this danmei. I literally started it because some of my friends in danmeitwt have been nagging at me for ages about how amazing 不死者 [Undead] is and have been so adamant of convincing me (and everyone they know) to vote for it as the next project to have an official translation from 7S (or at least they were, until 7S decided “that all asians are the same''😒 and decided to use danmei as a blanket term for any bl work that comes from asia, because they say so, which is not only extremely ignorant but highkey racist🤬), and it made me very curious. So after reading perhaps one too many contemp novels in a row, I decided to jump into this one as a palate cleanser before I moved on to the next one I had in my TBR, which was definitely a choice since I am positively NOT your classic ABO reader (sorry, to each their own, but AO couples bore me terribly and most of my favorite reads in either books or manhwas/manhuas are either AA or OO or B couples because I have some very particular thoughts about how most AO dynamics are written); additionally, I had never read any zombie apocalypse danmei before (my only time dipping my toes in the zombie apocalypse world was arc #1 in Mist, and even though I had fun, I am very clear most of the enjoyment was because of the causality elements and quantum physics components of it, making it perhaps the best book I've ever read that can scientifically hold the time travel premise… yes, I am a nerd, are you really shocked?). Ergo, not expecting much, I just wanted to read something I could vibe with for a bit. Zero expectations.
Btw, this is me admitting being a f*cking clown🤡 lol.
In all fairness, I should’ve known because not only my friends have taste but we are talking about Huai Shang, an author I've been dying to read for years, patiently waiting for either fan tl to be completed or official english licenses (thank you, Rosmei!💗💗) of both Poyun and Tunhai to devour them. And if you are like me, and you think zombie apocalypse is awesome in movies, tv and sounds fun in theory but not quite sure how it can translate into a danmei I am gonna ask you to give this one a chance; even if you feel a bit underwhelmed for the first 10 chapters or so (as I was, and if you had asked me how I was going to rate this at that moment I would’ve given 3 stars solely for the efforts and funny jokes), keep going. Because you not only have a fabulous dynamic between Zhou Rong, an Alpha who detests Omegas for ✨reasons✨, Commander of Squad 6 of the 118 Special Forces, last hope of the humanity after the apocalypse has happened, an absolute and unrepentant clown from beginning to end of the novel, and Si Nan, a powerful Omega who has lost his memories, has a deadly fixation with Alphas (as in he enjoys beating the sh*t out of them and killing them), has a never-ending craving of sweets and is someone who prizes his sleep above the life of any person(you and me both, bestie, you and me both). Sounds fun, right? It sure is!! Add a sprinkle of the entire circus around Major Clown, aka the entire Squad 6, a plot that keeps getting better with every chapter, lots of morally gray people acting as real people act when faced with life and death decisions in the midst of what feels like the end of the world, a slow burn romance that keeps building (and yes, there is explicit smut and marking!🔥🔥), lots of banter, adorable and swoony interactions between both MCs any time they can, competent female Alpha vs evil competent female Alpha fights, nuanced social commentary about what it takes to get medical breakthroughs and the cost it has on the psyche of the scientists who have to focus on saving the world instead of listening to their consciences, and what you have is 85 chapters of AN ABSOLUTE BANGER!!!
And even though I have some minor niggles about pacing, and how imho the resolution/ending felt a bit rushed, I forgive it. I forgive everything because this is the most fun, cackling out loud, screaming, and making sounds that made my doggo concerned for my wellbeing, in a very long time, which is my very incoherent way to say if you come across someone who recommends 不死者 [Undead], don’t be like me. Don’t put it at the bottom of your TBR, don’t ignore it for months. Let yourself have fun and read it!!

January 29, 2024zombie apocalypse danmei always sounds SO COOL in theory but never in practice for me 😔 zero motivation to continue with this even though i really enjoyed the characters and plot from what i’ve read
my tbr is way too long to spend time on danmei where i don’t have the urge to even read it anymore. might pick this up one day when i want to give the genre another try but for now i have to dnf :/

I'm a bit torn on this one because it started off SO strong like 5 star material, but it definitely dwindled a bit by the end. It has a lot of good going for it, but also quite a few 'meh' things about it and some of those things went hand in hand lol
The Pros
- the characters - I absolutely ADORED all these characters. They were all so distinct and wonderful in their own ways. They all had their own stories, their own reasons for doing things, and it was a wonderful sort of "Found Family" with 118. Especially Si Nan, his story and his character was definitely one of the most interesting and complex I've ever read in a danmei before
- The relationship - gosh I loved Si Nan and Rong-ge so much they were so perfect together. I just love love LOVE change-ups to the typical omega/alpha pairing - I loved our golden retriever puppy Alpha and our cool headed, quiet, badass Omega. The scenes with them fighting zombies side by side were just so fun - I love when relationships are shown as equal, especially in omegaverse where it's so easy to have a huge power imbalance.
- The plot - this was SUCH a fun plot. Zombies and apocalyptic books are some of my absolute favorites. I think I'm also particularly burnt out on the standard danmei historical china cultivator setting, so this was a breath of fresh air
The Cons
- the relationship lol - the relationship itself was perfect but... not to make it sound like smut is everything, but this is a fade to black/closed door romance, and I think its to its detriment. I can admit I simply like smut, but I'm also totally fine with there not being any (some of my favorite danmeis don't have it - like TGCF, little mushroom, and thrice married to salted fish). I will kick my feet and squeal over hugs and kisses just as much as on-page smut. BUT, I feel like we missed out on a lot of character/relationship development with Si Nan/Zhou Rong because of this being closed door, mostly because the first time they are together , and then suddenly its days later and their relationship has changed SO MUCH without us actually seeing it. I loved seeing them so obsessed with each other and soft and in love, but we didn't actually see that progression - it went from infatuation/fondness to love without anything being on the page.
- The plot LOL - this was such a fun plot, but it was also VERY repetitive. I feel like the same thing just kept happening over and over and over and over . The action was also one of those things that was very pro AND con for me because the action scenes were very fun to read and I loved how cinematic (and sometimes ridiculous and silly) they were. But also, they got to be sooooo repetitive after a while - there's only so many times I can read thousands of zombies getting their heads blown up by perfectly shot machine guns
- the length - I LOVE a slow burn, but this book felt way too long. I think it could have been cut by about 15-20 chapters and it would have been the perfect fun, silly danmei
Overall, I really liked this, but I'm a bit let down because I think I could have absolutely LOOOVVVEEEDDDD it if just a few things were tweaked. But, I think this is a great danmei for a fun little palette cleanser or a fun fall/Halloween read!

Me encantó. Pese a que la temática de zombies no me llamaba mucho la atención, resultó ser una historia muy atrapante y llena de acción.
La pareja principal es preciosa. Empoderados y graciosos.
Definitivamente, la unidad 118 se robó mi corazón.

Lo único que se le critica, es que es muy corta... Y necesitaba más pero ya no... No se.
Mientras la leía era tan wow, pero a la vez desesperante. Necesitaba terminarla.

Ha pasado un tiempo desde que me emocionaba y reía tanto con una novela como con esta.
Si Nan es un omega top top top. Me gustó mucho como protagonista, especialmente que la autora respetara la esencia del personaje de principio a fin... Aunque sí reconozco que luego del amor, se volviera como se volvió.

I guess I set my hope too high because I heard nothing but great things about this book. I was really excited about the zombie apocalypse plot but it turned out to be a very typical hero journey. The dialogues made me uncomfortable. I don't know if it's because of the translation (I read the Thai translation) but for the most part they sounded unnatural and very cringy to me. Besides, I just couldn't get into the writing style. I really have to rethink about buying the other novel by this author.

It’s my first time reading about zombies in general. Zombies in a Danmei novel is something entirely new. It was an enjoyable read. I liked the main characters, but I lost interest 53% in (exactly after the main characters got together).

淮上的文有保障的，这篇文的主角性格比较接近破云/吞海，没有早期提灯看刺刀（楚慈我的白月光）那么虐，可是熟悉淮上的文都知道小受的性格就是美强惨哈哈哈。这篇小说我熬夜读完了因为剧情真的不脱水，总体来说是一篇较好看的末世丧尸文。我只想问一句：答应写的番外呢？ 全程打怪到了最后也没给一个幸福快乐撒狗粮的番外，心塞哈哈哈

Po raz pierwszy przeczytałam współczesną (a raczej postapokaliptyczną) książkę chińskiego autora i wreszcie się nie pogubiłam :D Było po prostu normalnie, bez nieznanych i dziwnych zasad, zwrotów i nazw tysięcy miast i rodów, uff 😉
Bardzo lubię uniwersum ABO, więc z tym większą ciekawością po nią sięgnęłam i nie zawiodłam się. Si Nan to chyba najlepsza omega z jaką się spotkałam. Wychowany przez naukowców usiłujących stworzyć szczepionkę długowieczności, zmuszony do bycia eksperymentem, stał się odpowiedzią na problem ginącej ludzkości. Od dziecka zmuszony do walki z zombie, stał się zabójcą, którego boją się nawet alfy. Kiedy ucieka do Chin, wszystko się dla niego zmienia. Jego dołączenie do elitarnego zespołu wojskowego Zhou Ronga, było najlepszą rzeczą w jego życiu. Działając w ukryciu, biorąc tłumiki i udając betę, doskonale wpasowuje się w tę doborową kompanię. Nikt nawet nie przypuszcza, że ten niepozorny, ale zabójczy dodatek do drużyny, jest omegą poszukiwanym na całym świecie.
Wojsko… cóż było świetne, troskliwe, zmobilizowane, honorowe i odważne. Dla obrony cywili poświęciliby własne życie bez mrugnięcia okiem. Nawet przełożeni potrafili odwrócić wzrok, gdy czasami złamano zasady w imię wyższego dobra. Miła odmiana, bardzo mi się podobało to podejście, dobro cywili ponad wszystko z zachowaniem trzeźwości umysłu i solidnej oceny sytuacji. Przebija tu pewien sposób myślenia, do którego my Europejczycy raczej nie jesteśmy przyzwyczajeni. Przyznam, że słowo „towarzyszu” sprawiało mi pewien dyskomfort. Cóż, pamiętam czasy „towarzyszy” i nie byli tak mili, jak nasi bohaterowie 😊. Niemniej drużyna 118 była świetna, zżyta ze sobą, robiąca sobie z siebie żarty, ale też pełna szacunku dla drugiej osoby, odważna i zahartowana w boju. Do końca trzymałam kciuki za każdego i każdą z nich, aby dotarli do celu cali i zdrowi.
Naukowcy to inna bajka. Ich zdecydowanie nie polubiłam. Ich dążenie do zdobycia cudownej szczepionki spowodowało śmierć miliardów. Miałam wrażenie prawie całkowitego braku sumienia. Cieszę się, że zarówno eksperymenty na ludziach, jak i szkolenie Si Nana, tortury psychiczne i fizyczne, są raczej jego wspomnieniami niż faktycznymi opisami, brrr. Ciekawą i kontrowersyjną postacią jest główny naukowiec. Z jednej strony potrafiący bez mrugnięcia okiem poświęcić każdego, aby znaleźć szczepionkę przeciwko zombie, z drugiej… cała jego historia była raczej zaskakująca i pozostawiała mieszane uczucia przekraczające granicę szarości.
Romans między Si Nanem a… no właśnie :D Do pewnego momentu nie wiadomo kto w nim wzbudził uczucie i może niech tak zostanie 😉 W każdym razie było naprawdę słodko, ale też niebezpiecznie i nie zaskoczyło to od razu. Zwłaszcza, że sytuacja w jakiej się znaleźli nie stwarzała romantycznego nastroju. Świetny alfa i super omega, tworzyli razem niepowtarzalny duet. Naprawdę widzę ich cały czas w mundurach taktycznych z bronią w ręku 😊
Podobało mi się, polecam jeżeli ktoś lubi klimat ABO i postapokalipsy zombie.

Sem condições a Huai Shang é minha autora do ano, com toda a certeza. Ela consegue entregar desenvolvimento, romance, comédia e muita desgraça com toda a facilidade do mundo.
Adorei o MC, adorei o ML e amei os secundários. Além disso, adoro histórias de apocalipse zumbi e, combinado com o ABO, tudo ficou ainda melhor.
Apesar de tudo, eu fiquei triste com o final do Ning Yu, estava torcendo que ele entrasse para a família se casando com o Yan Hao!!!
E nem falo do smut porque não tem muitos (dois, até onde sei, e um deles não pude ler porque a tradução que eu tenho está censurada, mas o outro simplesmente masterpiece), mas a tensão entre o Zhou Rong e o Si Nan simplesmente 10/10.
Não vou me adentrar muito no vilão, até porque ele é uma mistura do Wen Shao (Poyun) e do Shark (Tunhai) que é explicitamente apaixonado pelo Si Nan (mais um brocon e pseudo-incesto da Huai Shang).
Enfim, maravilhoso, como sempre.

Apocalypse with omegaverse (ABO) and world with normative ideology that Omega are for reproduction!
Fun! OP MC and a lot of zombie escaping shenanigans with a well thought plot and nice closure with the ending!

I really enjoyed it though, the main characters were a little OP! MC was really fun reclusive and strong Omega different from others (I knowww it's not that likable, but it was done well enough that I enjoyed it!)
ML was sweet, considerate and caring though he was quite typical, but heyy! MC & ML's relationship was super cute and loved how their relationship developed! ❤️

I was artbaited into reading this and it truly didn’t disappoint. more than anything I just loved the characters, especially Si Nan. everything about him made me enjoy reading his story, and also how he interacted with others, especially his Rong-ge. but also the plot itself! there was just constant action, constant surprises, constantly keeping me on my toes, which was perfect for a zombie apocalypse setting. the way it slowed down near the end then suddenly everything was getting insane in the last couple chapters gave me so much stress LOL. I really enjoyed this so so much!

Eu gostei muito dessa novel, mas acredito que uma tradução melhor a tornaria impecável. A história aborda um tema extremamente interessante e conseguiu me cativar completamente. No entanto, foi um verdadeiro desafio ler em inglês, exigindo todo o meu conhecimento da língua, porque era uma tradução muito literal e bruta, o que fez com quem frequentemente me perdesse na trama.

I'm not a fan of zombie apocalypse stories but I liked this one. Si Nan was a badass fighter, as was the whole Team 18. I sure hope one day it will be picked up to publish and I can put it on the shelf with other stories I liked.

Honestly, I started reading this as a joke because I knew from the synopsis I wouldn't like it. Like zombie apocalypse??? be so for real.

淮上大大的选题能力真的没得说～人性对自身和所爱之人能够存续和永生的贪婪追求，末世之下权贵通过资源掌控以求自身利益最大化和末世丧尸“冲关”的架构都好有意思，人会消亡，但总有“不死者”带着“火种”前行～但这篇文里的攻受塑造总感觉差点意思，故事情节读起来的感受就是还行，但也没有特别让人有想一直读下去的感受。整体的话三颗星。
