With a twelve million dollar debt, there's no escaping the mafia.
When Jenna Masters embarks on a vacation to Antigua, she anticipates leaving behind her hectic job in the intensive care unit but doesn’t anticipate meeting an attractive stranger, Ryan Walsh, with a dark past. She turns down a romantic encounter not wanting to invite danger into her life. When Jenna is kidnapped, she discovers her own past has resurfaced to claim her and she turns to the one man she knows can help her—Ryan Walsh.
Jenna and Ryan plummet into danger that threatens both of their lives. Can they free themselves from the wrath of a killer or will they find their lives cut short by those that seek to destroy them?
I enjoy writing and reading action/adventure, thrillers, romantic suspense, and fantasy.
I grew up reading Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton, and the Bourne books. I write seeking to create that level of action and intrigue but with female heroines. The love the quote, ‘She needed a hero. So she became one.’ My novels have empowered women overcoming powerful obstacles and the strong men who support them.
C. B. Samet is becoming my go-to for romantic suspense when I want a heavier emphasis on the action, suspense, & thrills with strong female characters. I also enjoy that Ryan and Jenna get to really know each other, yes it's insta-attraction but by the time the "I love yous" are shared I felt it a true reflection of their relationship. In typical Samet style all romantic scenes are closed door. While each Rider Files book is a stand alone with a complete story, there are secondary character arcs that run through and these are best read/listened to in order.
Jenna is a Critical Care doctor with a teenage son and an ex-husband with a gambling addiction. She meets Ryan while taking some time off at her parent's Antiguan resort and he is on a low-key reconnaissance job. While things don't work out for them there, they are later thrust into each other's lives when Jenna's ex offers her up as payment for his gambling debts. Neither has stopped thinking of the other in the interim.
I don't want to spoil the plot points - but I really appreciated the numerous action scenes in this one spaced out with intermissions of calm where we get to know Jenna, Ryan, as well as their friends and coworkers better. It never feels like there is too much angst or drama, yet the story is still captivating. (so much so that I listened to it in one day!)
Samet is also building future story lines for Maxine & her son as well as the spunky blue-haired tech genius Claire. Less prominent and I don't see any books for him yet - but I do hope Reece will get his own HEA. I'm eager to jump into the next book, McMillan File.
Tim Shafer's narration was good. He gives all the characters their own voices, accents, and personalities. I always knew exactly who was talking.
After listening to Meridian File, I immediately purchased all four available Rider Files ebooks. However, I did receive a free copy of the audiobook from Story Origin and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book has it all: romance, suspense, action, humour and warmth.
When bar tender, Jenna, saves a life on the beach in Antigua, Ryan Walsh a brooding guest at the resorts more than impressed. Of course he was impressed before but this seals the deal.
In fact, Jenna is helping her parents who own the resort out. She is actually an ICU doctor in Chicago and Ryan is not just a guest, he is a security agent for Rider SI. Both have issues from their past that they must deal with. Their one date sizzles but Jenna afraid to get involved, pushes a reluctant Ryan away. He leaves her his card, hoping she will contact him.
Neither can forget the other but life conspires until Jenna, in real danger contacts him. Ryan’s response is immediate and as one of the close knit Rider S.I. team gets full back up.
Although this can be read as a stand alone we not only meet new characters but also those we know and love from the first book in the series - Meridian File.
Apart from the reluctant romance I loved the Walsh/Reece partnership. “Walsh is in love,’ was one of my favourite lines. There is much wry humour in this book to alleviate the tension and suspense. Max and her team are all very human and they go to the wall for each other. Each has their secrets and it’s great to get tantalising glimpses of what they might be. Another great character is Russian mafia boss Vladimir Pronin - but no spoilers there.
This is a real page turner as it races to its conclusion. It’s one of those books you can’t wait to finish but at the same time don’t want it to. I loved it.
Romantic suspense is just so much fun to listen to. You get the thrilling action with a side of romance to make a wonderful story! CM Samet is fantastic at writing just this kind of book, and this second book in her Rider Files series is amazing. Jenna is a critical care doctor, divorced and finds herself as the payment for her ex-husband gambling debts. Who better to come to her aid but a man she met at her parents' resort in Antigua. There was definite chemistry then, but not with Ryan employed by Rider's Security, the two have a slow burn that ignites to full on passion. High suspense, thrilling action and a plot that is not only believable but kept my interest straight through. I love this series and will be watching for the next release.
Tim Shafer narrates this book. The level of his voice for me at times was hard to hear. I am not sure if it is the recording or the decibel that my ear just has difficulty with. He has a good pace and his voices are easy to distinguish from male to female.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review
4.8 🌟’s Rounded UP!
What a great story! A fast paced roller coaster from start to finish! That first chapter really got things started and I knew right then it would be great! Ryan’s team is well rounded with great chemistry, and a believable skill set. Jenna and her colleagues shined, realistically, which made them relatable also. I love that the author made them human, with flaws. Ryan and Jenna’s relationship was great from start to finish. I was pulled in and felt the connection. My only complaint was the final climax of the story felt too quick. Maybe I just didn’t want it to end! I really enjoyed this story, and recommend diving into it and others by this author!!
As a side note, because it’s important in reality (but didn’t make me love the story any less). Snakes aren’t poisonous. They’re venomous. It’s a big distinction for safety. Something that’s poisonous will potentially kill you if you EAT it, something venomous will potentially kill you if it BITES you. 😁
2nd book in series. This is Jenna and Ryan's story. Jenna is an ICU Dr. with a ex-husband from hell. He had a gambling problem and was a cheater. Jenna stayed with him so their son wouldn't have a broken home. Big mistake!!! She's finally rid of him and spends 3 months a year at her parents resort in Antigua. There she meets Ryan on assignment for Rider SI. They spent some time together getting to know each other. Ryan wants to grow the relationship but Jenna is too afraid to take the chance. So he leaves her his business card and tells her to call when she's ready. Meanwhile good old Brad (ex-husband) has gotten into a mess with the cuban mafia. And he brings her into the mess. Ryan of course comes to the rescue when she calls him as she's being kidnapped.
I received a copy of this book from the author for a review and I have to tell you, I LOVE this author!!! The writing is an absolute delight! I absolutely LOVE auto read but I am extremely choosy on the books that I invest my time in. CB SAMET NEVER fails to deliver. She kept me guessing to the end, the writing was consistent and the story never felt like it was droning on! I have already gone through the first 2 books in The Rider Files series, and I fully intend to read the rest of them! Then I will start on the other books from CB SAMET!!!
This book started out great, loved the characters and where this story was going and than the story was beginning to get too boring with the continued medical explanations and other things that I even began skipping pages. I believe this is a great read like everyone states but for me I had to stop reading half way through. Maybe another book in the series will be better.🤞 Of course this is just my opinion 🙄. We all have different expectations when reading a story.
The Masters File continues the Rider SI series of romantic suspense. With tight pacing, the second book is a fast read. The protagonists have a bit of insta-love, but it doesn’t diminish the relationship. Even though it works as a stand alone novel, I was glad I read book 1 first (and now I’m ready for the next in the series!)
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in The Rider Files Series, a Romantic Suspense. Jenna and Ryan’s story is highly suspenseful, intricate, and action packed. The plot is intriguing and captivating. Tim Shafer did a good job with the narration. Looking forward to listening to McMillan Files, the next book in the Series.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of The Masters File . This is the second story in the Sensational Rider Files Series . Such a well written and Wonderful Suspense Romance. I really enjoyed reading this story. A must read in my opinion . It's definitely full of suspense and intrigue, action and romance . I highly recommend taking the time to read.
A well written clean romance that has me captivated from start to finish. Likeable characters with a nice chemistry. They are well described and develops nicely through the story. A story filled with adventure, action, mystery, twists and emotional ups and down.
This is the second book I have read in this series. Upon finishing , I ordered the third. The series has great character development. The story holds your interest throughout each book. Believable story lines.
A little adrenalin and romance to get your heart going. An excellent story, and great characters. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A rare military-romance where there is an actual story with substance and not just a bunch of f-words and sex. Will have to check out more of this author.
I really loved reading this book the story is gripping all the way though. It constantly makes you want to read more. There is so much suspense, action and romance. This is a must read.
This is a my second book by this author and second from this seres and I wasn't disappointed it more than lived up to the first book the Meridian File.
Jenna Masters needs a break from her job as a Icu doctor and single mother to a 15 year old so she goes to visit her parents in Antigua, there she meets Ryan Walsh a ex army ranger who now works for Rider Security she decides not to take things further as she really doesn't need any complications in her already crowded life. Now her ex husband has brought more complications than she can ever expect with the russian mafia and the cuban mob after her, Will Ryan and the members of Rider security be able to keep her safe and hat is this that is growing between her and Ryan. Will he not only save her life but her heart as well
i was given a copy of this book but this is a true and honest review
Ooh! Insanely suspenseful and cleanly romantic, Master's File details a private security agency's pro-bono efforts on behalf of a wronged ex-wife and her son. Mix high-level medical skills, high-level retrired Army Ranger skills, high-level tech/hacker skills, the Russian mafia, the Cuban mafia, a loser ex-husband with gambling debts and unlimited gall - the result is explosive! Explosive action. Explosive personal chemistry. And just plain explosives! Woo-eee, you are gonna love this book! It's part of a series, but works perfectly as a stand-alone, except that once you've read it, you'll want to read all the series... Thanks to Hidden Gem for the ARC, the thrills and the romance - this review is my personal, voluntary, and uncompensated recommendation: GET THIS BOOK!
Thank you C.B. Samet and thank you Hidden Gems! I did not read book 1, but I surely will. I will also go find every book this author has written and read it. I loved this book. It was a classy well done romantic suspense! If you like the erotic - spell it all out sex scenes, this is not the book for you, and it will be your loss. I felt the love, I enjoyed the suspense and I am hooked on following The Rider S.I> through all its up coming dilemmas. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Ryan and a strong competent Dr Jenna :) . I hate Lucas, probably more than Ryder and Maxine. And whoa, hey Vladimir.... um not sure how your going to achieve your desire. Read the books, come get to know them.
This fast paced suspense romance also packs a humorous tongue in cheek smirk-a-thon. Yes, I found myself smirking and giggling as much as reading as fast as I could to find out what was next. Ryan and Jenna both had baggage but both were also so rational, not prone to overreact and I think very realistic for an ex-Army Ranger and a critical care doctor. The romance was sweet and makes your heart happy, but be aware the sex is not included. If you're a fan of light suspense, romance, and humor don't miss this wonderful tale.
I really liked this story. It sucked me in and I had to finish it in one sitting just to see how it ended. And I was not disappointed. It had adventure, criminals, idiots, a security company on the side of angels and a cast of characters that I quickly fell in love with. The story made me laugh and groan and root for Ryan and Jenna. And I loved the series setup. I thought the story had the perfect mix that makes it a great romantic suspense story and series I will have to keep reading. I really really liked the writing and story.
This is an action packed storyline that will keep you turning the pages. Jenna is a single mother of a teenage son and an ICU doctor. Ryan works for Rider SI a security company. They meet in Antigua while Jenna is staying at her parents resort. You have the Cuban mob, Russian mob and kidnapping in this book. You will be on the edge of your seat trying to find out what will happen next for Jenna and Ryan. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is one of those books that you will fall in love with as it is such a great read you will not be able to put it down. This book is filled with adventure, action, mystery, criminals and the characters you will fall in love with. There is great homour and you will find yourself really rooting for Jenna and Ryan. I can’t wait for more form this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
she is going to have a well deserved break but things don't go the way she thought it would. she meets a man with a dark past but her past also comes out. they have to travel around while trying to stay one step ahead o the bad guys
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It didn't end up being as sizzling as I thought it would be for the romantic suspense. It was a good read and I enjoyed getting to learn more about the characters. This is where the author shines in how they are described. But it seems to lack in the suspense department.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a fun read. I like it because... This was welled thought out plain to reuse Janna from the evil people. From the time Ryan and Reese got back from Antigua He wanted to reach out to Jenna. This was a much tense read couldn't put down, Intruding. I received an advanced copy in exchanged for an honest review.
