At the age of 15, He Jin found himself a “husband” in an online game, their love was filled with loving affection and sweetness. However, because his study was being interfered with, his parent cut off the internet, he didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye and had to disappear from the game.
8 years later, the online game in the past was about to come out with a revised edition and turned into a virtual reality game. He Jin decided to login again and unexpectedly discovered that his “husband” had become a powerful player and ranked number one in the whole server, moreover, he had not divorced him!
However, the husband that was abandoned by He Jin for eight years, his initial impression of him was that of a pure boy, but now he seemed to somehow have become…….a little evil?
Sweet reunion college romance with fluff and also substance. Fun online games courtship with real-life romancing.
Fluffy and cute in the beginning, but unexpectedly the tone gets heavy and serious as the story progresses. I even teared up in one of those touching moments. Nevertheless, there are quite a bit of comedic reliefs since this is supposed to be a rom-com. The romance is sweet, fun and uhmm... borderline stalkerish. The ML had an overwhelming obsession over the MC even when the MC was just a stranger to him back then when they met in an online game. That fellow actually waited for 8 freaking years for the MC to return to the game since his sudden disappearance. He then proceeded to cling to him and even try to pry into the MC's life and his personal information behind his back. The alert alarm is totally blaring here. Thank god, this is just a fiction. Phew!
This is the lovely couple and they are pretty sweet together. The ML is most doting, although rather domineering.
The MC gets tons of character development, and the ML has some as well. I didn't expect this supposedly rom-com to turn so heavy and poignant halfway. Especially when the author introduces serious topics such as the harsh stigma of homosexuality, especially in Asian society. And the struggle of youngsters in most Chinese society strict upbringing that usually disregards individualism in favour of the authoritarian parenting approach. The latter is especially relatable to me.
I find the story engaging and actually appreciates the last half of it more. This is an MMORPG genre story, so be ready for lots of gameplay scenes. Some might not like it, but it was okay for me as I could still enjoy this part even I am not a gamer. The author handles the sensitive topics well, and the emotional scenes are well written. The book is good enough that I might re-read it again in future as I often do with books I like.
Time to show some love to the pretty book covers:
This is them in the game.
Yes, they had a baby! Mpreg! Whoohoo!
This is them, in the game as well as in real life. It's not easy for the ML to win the MC's heart and not easy for them to be together. They have gone through lots of hardships to get that hard-earned HEA.

This is not the first time I’ve picked this up, but I always end up bored midway through. I adore Assistant Architect by the same author, so I don’t understand why this one doesn’t hit the same. Anyway, I’m dropping it at 15% in (chapter 21).
The book is danmei, kind of e-sports themed—mainly gaming, college students, and a reunion of friends/lovers. So if you’re interested, definitely pick it up. Or better yet, pick up my all-time favorite, Assistant Architect, by the same author.
