Evie Black returns in a thrilling spin-off from the bestselling Mason Black series.
After discovering her brother’s crimes, Evie Black flees to New York in search of a better life. Desperate, lonely, and strapped for cash, she lands the role of coffee girl at Vision Magazine. It’s not perfect, but at least she can be close to her one true love: journalism.
When a reporter position opens, she demands the opportunity to prove herself, and what better way than to interview a man on trial for murdering his family? It sounds easy at first, but when the killer pleads innocent, Evie embarks on a desperate search for answers before a man is locked up for a crime he didn’t commit.
With three stories to enjoy, readers can get caught up in Evie’s world of trauma whether they’ve read her origins or not. Every step of her journey is riveting, which makes this the perfect book for Mason Black fans and newcomers alike.
*Previously published as individual titles, ‘Hard Press’ has been heavily edited to bring the reader a fresh new experience.

What did I like? This was one of the most interesting reads that I have read in a while. Evie Black has the tenacity of a person 10 times her size and doesn’t back down when things go wrong. She feels what she writes and researches until she finds what she believes is the truth. Each of the three stories will have you on the edge of your seat and hold your breath. Remember to breath!!
What will you like? Exhilarating actions, Stimulating characters, and breathtaking storylines! The characters will capture you and hold you as each story unfolds. You can see the research that the author did to make this amazing book come to life. I have read every book that I can get my hands on from this author and have enjoyed every single one of them. This book did not let me down and in fact, it just keeps getting better with each new book that I read. Don’t miss out on any of the others that this author has written you won’t be sorry. I received this from the author as a member of the beta team for an honest review with no other compensation.
It can often take a decade or more for an author to find the right formula for their first best seller. Adam Nicholls has burst onto the scene in less than twelve months. What's his secret? He's been writing for years in preparation for this apparent sudden onslaught. The world changes at a more rapid rate than it used to in the pre-indie days. The modern reader lives life at such a pace that 'rapid release' of a series is now prevalent. Who gorged on box sets from Netflix when the silver screen was churning out Fleming's Bond series? Nobody, of course, but today it's common practice. When people want a popular series - they want it now! It's fast food for the masses, which doesn't mean it hasn't got merit. Nicholls is an accomplished writer whose characters reflect all the traits that are currently on trend. These three stories featuring Evie Black are a terrific read. It will be interesting to note having laid these firm foundations whether it's possible to keep feeding the public at such breakneck speed?
These are the Evie Black case files. Evie Black was the sister of hardcore P.I. Mason Black. Case 1: Black Out= Evie Black was back on the journalism gig, if she could prove herself. Her first story is of a man suspected of murdering his wife and kid, but he swore that he blacked out. Could he have done it? It was up to Evie to prove his innocence for the story. Case 2: Black Widow= Hunting down the story of the Black Widow Killer with a handsome stranger she dubbed Cocky McCharming. Turns out the string of deaths were part of a larger crime syndicate. Case 3: Black Magic= A case at the circus. This one was a little slow to begin with. It takes several chapters for Evie to witness a tragic accident in a circus act. But Evie doesn’t really think much of it. Instead, she focuses on the rude gypsy witch that almost tried to kill her. This one clearly wasn’t that great. I mean, putting Evie in the circus act? Kind of dumb and boring. The best one in this collection was Black Widow. With the exception of the last story, these were pretty interesting mystery thrillers.
Loved it.. I liked the idea of different stories.. breaks the book up lovely.. Evie gets herself into some scraps. She has a lot to learn and is not completely street wise. Loved loved loved the ending! I look forward to the next one@ well done Adam!
Evie Black is a writer with an awesome talent to see below the surface. She sees something ordinary and is able to tell that there is something wrong. The plot twists and turns will make you not want to put the book down.
Great trilogy of a journalist turned editor who gets herself in life changing situations just to get a story. This was great fun ! Intriguing cast of characters, lots of fun and three very well written story lines.
I really enjoyed these stories. There was a lot of action and twists and turns. I really love the main character Evie. I would like to see more books with her.
Whether or not you are familiar with Evie Black from the Mason Black series, you WILL NOT be disappointed with these three stories. Evie Black is funny, intelligent and this book captivates readers until the very end.
After a falling out with her brother, Detective Mason Black, Evie sets off on her own. Starting out as a gopher sat a news magazine, Evie Black quickly inserts herself into the journalistic flow. "The Evie Black Files" contains three separate stories she pursues.
Nicholls, in his own twisted way creates wonderful mysterious cases while providing character development which quickly sets up Evie as her own person, worthy if many future books.
