Violet Blue has authored and edited over 40 books, including five (Bronze, Silver and Gold) IPPY award-winners, some of which are now in eight translations. Violet was a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show, when Ms. Winfrey featured Violet's book on women and pornography (11/17/09). That book is also excerpted and featured on Oprah Winfrey's website, as well as in O, The Oprah Magazine.
Violet owns and operates Digita Publications (digitapub.com), an indie digital publisher of e-books and audio books. Rather than a royalty system, Digita books share all sales with the authors fairly and transparently, featuring books in both DRM-free versions and for Kindle on Amazon.
Her online sexuality blog, Tiny Nibbles, is one of the Internet's longest-running sex blogs, and has won many accolades and awards. For her day job, Ms. Blue is a journalist on hacking, crime, cybersecurity, privacy, and at-risk populations for outlets ranging from Engadget to CNET, and occasionally outlets like CBS News, CNN and O the Oprah Magazine.
By the way, which is better--exquisite or mind-blowing?
The foreword by Margaret Cho begins with "Pussy is a wondrous mystery." Vaginas and vulvas are a mystery, but Violet Blue does her best to educate the carpet-licking public. Her introduction is as enlightening as her men's guide intro was. It's sad in a way that years after the first production of The Vagina Monologues, we're still living in a "pussyphobic" culture, but Blue is right.
As in the guide to men's pleasure, there are line drawings. They're fun, though they neglect genital piercings, unlike the male-centered guide. Neither illustrations nor text are heterosexist, so lesbian and bisexual women can enjoy it just as much as straight women. There is also a chapter for women with disabilities. Sidebars on how not to muss your lipstick and what to do with a tongue piercing are fun, and again, Alison Tyler contributes short erotic fantasies to the nonfiction.
The chapters are yummy and informative, but the best part may be the resource guide at the end, updated for the second edition. It tells you where to buy woman-positive and sex-friendly supplies in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
If you're a woman with a partner who's reluctant to go down on you, buy your boyfriend/girlfriend this little volume. It'll open up her/his eyes to the possibilities and deal with all the concerns people usually have about "going down there."
No seriously, if you're thinking about reading this book...read this book. There are diagrams, artists pictures, sexual negotiation skills, erotic stories, personal experiences, and is not exclusively talking to heterosexual couples.
I finally ordered this from Amazon just because I want to see how their preference-predicting algorithm handles this. Recommend another purchase for me now, bitches.
Also, I love looking at the people who gave this book five stars. Seriously. It's better than the zoo.
I particularly like the section on inhibitors, and the author's obvious enthusiasm. There are short erotica ficlets at the end of each chapter (by Alison Tyler). And I particularly appreciated the passage in which the author lets us know that upcoming material on golden showers might be squicky: she recommended that if it wasn't the reader's thing, they could skip to the story at the end of the chapter.
A great book and a must-read for everyone! It really gave me tons of great solid information about not only cunnilingus but on the vagina itself. I think I bookmarked and highlighted so much of this book that it's basically a rainbow at this point. I can't wait to read Blue's book on Fellatio.
There are many books out there on cunnylingus and most of them only revolves around the come hither motion with fingers while licking the clit. This is not that book.
This book is really good and covers pretty much everything a beginner to experienced cunnylingus sharer would need. From concrete techniques to health concerns and even inclusion of sex with disabilities. This book is so inclusive and nonjudgmental and that is awesome!
I didn’t care personally for the erotic short stories but I could just skip them. If you love oral sex with women this is a fantastic book!
Okay- so this wasn't a book purchase that I made, but it was there and I read some just to check it out and make sure that it didn't say anything like "Go down on a woman and then try repeatedly poking your fingers in her eyeballs- she'll think it exquisite!" It didn't.
I really liked this book, not only with how detailed it is on how to give good, safe oral sex to a woman but it can be very enjoyable for both parties. The author does a really thorough job of explaining certain methods of oral (like analingus), the toys you can use, and how to practice safety while doing this action like using dental dams or other alternatives.
She also details how to have oral sex properly when either the giver or taker are injured, disabled; the tastes, tricks, and how to use the g-spot.
If your interested in being an expert in one way to pleasure women, pick up this book.
The most no-bullshit guide to the subject that you will ever read. To old hands at/enthusiasts for the art, this probably won't provide you with any new info, but it's good to know that such a time exists to provide much-needed reference for this all-too-often neglected aspect of lovemaking. If I were to recommend only one book on the subject to those who truly need its help and advice, this is the one I would cite.
Solid, well written book which I would recommend to counter She Comes First. The Ultimate Guide is just as sex positive - if not more so - with greater diversity of topics covered (disability and S/M sections come to mind) and less heteronormativity.
A useful guide for guys. Gals should slide this book under the pillow of their partners. Lots of good suggestions here. Recommended for all men trying to improve their bed performances.
A comprehensive guide to cunnilingus with coverage of male-female and female female techniques. Lot's of emphasis safe sex practices which take about about 20% of the book. Well worth reading.
Очень поверхностно. Т.е.
Pretty superficial. That is, it is another analog of journal articles collected under one cover. Well, or a series of podcasts/videos from YouTube. The book can successfully replace glossy magazines and blogs/podcasts/videos on this topic, but for something more it is worth looking at more serious literature.
Must read for anyone who wants to make their female partner happy and healthy. Took me two and a half decades to realize that sex in porn isn’t aspirational. The special thing we have is what we deserve. We can make it better, not by demanding, but by giving.
This book helps me give better providing context, do’s and don’ts, a much needed sex ed biology primer, with instructions and an acute instruction to listening closely to your partner.
May present this to the partner of my daughter once they seal the deal in the future.
From the practical anatomy lessons to the saucy little stories, there is plenty to get from this very helpful book. Written and published before the gender diversity movement really took hold, this could use some updating regarding the gender binary, and possibly some intersex info. Violet is a persuasive writer, and it's always a pleasure to read anything she pens.
Does what it says on the cover: delivers a fine guide to oral sex. Surprisingly well written, plenty of good advice not offered in other books on the same topic.
How I wish this book had existed when I was a teenager. It would have saved me a rap sheet of frustrated lovers and broken relationships as long as a porn star’s pork sword with a pommel on the end. Men, if you’re really serious about being a good lover, go out and buy this book. It will be the best fiver you ever spent. In fact, I’m thinking of buying my girlfriend the author’s companion volume, The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio, next Christmas. Not that she needs it, you understand.
Great, practical if not super deep; love the disabled section - hadn't seen a sex ed book talk about how to manage stuff if you or yours have different capabilities.
