Tired of being under the rule of her powerful father, Leah escapes across the country to her mother’s house for a summer of adventure before her senior year of college. Armed with a to-do list and an open mind, she’s ready for anything. But the reunion with her mother doesn’t exactly go as planned, and to make matters even worse, her father sends one of his security team to bring her back home. Is her quest for adventure already over, or is it just getting started?
Dominic left a rough life in Chicago to enter the world of private security, and agreeing to go after the boss’s runaway daughter is a risky move. With one misstep, his fast track career could hit a dead end, and the headstrong rich girl isn’t making things easy. But as he reluctantly assumes the role of her new bodyguard for the summer, he learns there’s a little more to her than he expected. And though she’s completely off-limits, he finds that he doesn’t want to stand back and watch her chase forbidden thrills. He wants to be the one who gives them to her.
Through tattoo parlors, hotel rooms, and a three day music festival, Leah and Dominic both have to decide whether the road to freedom – and to each other – is truly worth risking it all.
K. B. Rose is the author of contemporary fiction and romance. Favorite things include books that make her feel, movies that surprise her, hula hoop dancing, roller skating, summertime, and daydreaming (she sometimes refers to this as “plotting,” but let’s be honest here). Among the things she doesn’t like so much: winter, insta-love, and Thursdays. She lives in Kansas City, MO with her husband, daughter, two guinea pigs, and an unruly cat they keep around only for the cuteness.
I can't even bother to rate let alone feel the need to point out true feelings for this novel.
Where do I start even?
Let's see, we first see our main hero, a bodyguard hired by the heroine's father to basically get her back from her "unstable" mother. He agrees and sets off. Next scene we see is the heroine at her mother's house, sneaking out and making negotiations with her father about when she comes back, and heartfelt confessions about why her father treats her mother like garbage. Another scene later, we see the girl reach her mother's house and basically spend time with her and her young boyfrend who is not afraid of showing some interest in the girl herself despite being the boyfriend of someone else.
Talk about a scumbag sucking up the girl's mother's love for him. Not the weird thing only though as we also meet another character, a weird girl who spends time with the girl's mother but around the girl's age.
Next thing I know there's a total 180-360 change as her mother reveals her true nature exactly what her father said in mere words when asked about his wife and her mother.
Talk about a dysfunctional family here.
The bodyguard aka the main hero then comes dashing in, like the ever loving, true prince charming ready to rescue his damsel in distress.
Now that is complete garbage as compared to what actually happened.
After the girl's mother reveals of being a relative of Maleficent's (Reference to beauty sleeping, if anyone caught it), the body guard realises that it's not a safe place for the girl and perfect timing to take the girl home.
But guess what!
She doesn't leave, rather she believes it's all bullshit and thinks it a dream.
IS SHE BLIND? IN ANOTHER ALTERNATE UNIVERSE? I think yes. YES SHE IS DELUSIONAL AND MENTAL.
Aren't I so polite?
I mean cmon woman, you did not just witness how selfish and cruel your mother is and you still believe it's all a lie.
I get it, it's a shock to receive such horrible news. But then her brain should come back online and then realise her situation and just leave the house instead of convincing herself that it's all crap.
My patience just ended there, literally. I did not have enough strength nor enough digestive fluids to tolerate the book or to be able to tolerate it.
I am sorry but gosh people, common sense is not that far away.
I don't read a whole lot of bodyguard romances because I feel like they all have the same basis of the bodyguard coming from a rough childhood and they guard rich brats that actually turn out to be deep individuals. This was sweet story none the less! I liked how there was a slow love that built from hate (or misconceptions) on both sides. I like how they both acknowledged that they were both hot but didn't have an insta-love. I didn't give it 5 stars because it did not have enough uniqueness that I like in a lot of love stories. It kind of touched on Dom's past but it didn't dive in deep enough in my opinion. I did like how you got a lot of Leah's backstory but there needed to be a deeper backstory on Dominic.
I actually really enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read and I thought it was good that I got to read from both Leah and Dominic’s POV. I really liked how the romance was a slow build up between the two main characters. Dom was sexy af and damnnnnnn those sex scenes were great One thing I thought could’ve been improved was that the book needed a touch more drama. It all sort of fell together too easily and I was waiting for somebody to throw a spanner in the works but it never happened. Overall an enjoyable, lighthearted read with lots of chemistry. Give it a go!
I like bodyguard romances, I don’t know why, I think I just like the idea of a hot guy jumping in to literally save you from danger. I also liked that in this book the romance wasn’t just forbidden because the guy was her bodyguard but also because her dad was his boss. One of my biggest complaints about romances like these are when the heroine is basically TSTL, thankfully Leah did not suffer from this unforgivable condition. She was certainly sheltered, and a little naive if only because she has really gone out of her way not experience the things other people her age have. But there’s a reason for it, there was a kidnapping attempt on her when she was much younger so it makes sense that she would be pretty closed off from others and new experiences. The thing I did like about her was that she was trying to come out of her shell, all she really wants is to be a normal 21 year old, only her dad isn’t on board with this idea. She really does let him control every aspect of her life and honestly that was a little bit hard for me to reconcile with. Dom as the hero was good, he’s what brought this book from a 3 Star to a 4. Sure he’s a good looking guy who is good at his job, but there is way more to him then that. He is trying to do the best he can to be their for his younger siblings because his mom is just well not good at being a mom. He’s also just a good guy in general. He is honest almost to a fault. I think he’s good for Leah. I liked seeing their evolution. And honestly there is no scenario in this book where he really ever comes out as the bad guy. He’s always just trying to do his best no matter the circumstance. That being said the biggest thing missing from this bodyguard romance was the danger. I mean if you are going to have a bodyguard in a book he has to at least have one or two moments to shine, the most he did in this book was tell someone to stop touching her. It was a bit of a let down. I thought the pacing was pretty okay, the book was a quick read for me. I do with things hadn’t wrapped up so quickly and in such a neat bow, the ending definitely felt a little bit rushed. I would definitely be willing to read another book by this author.
I enjoyed reading this book, although I felt like some things could have been a lot different and interesting.
It was way less dramatic than I was anticipating and expecting which, for me personally can be both good and bad. On one hand, I don’t particularly like it when stories are jam packed with drama to the point it’s uncomfortable to read, but on the other hand, I dislike it when there is very little or no drama.
This book did hold my attention however, but unfortunately it was bordering on dull, especially during the first half of the book. There were certain moments when I felt like the author could have done a lot more with some situations to liven up the story and strengthen the bond and connection between the two characters. It lacked action for me, unless you’re counting the romance. It was quite pointless for the main character to have a bodyguard because she was never in a dangerous situation nor were there ever any threats, apart from an horrific incident from her past, which was the main reason her father originally hired protection for her in the first place.
I very much liked the two main characters, and their banter and interplay. Their obvious connection was the best part of the book, I just wasn’t keen on how long it took for them to get together! But, once they did it was explosive. The story ended beautifully in a very satisfying conclusion.
All in all, this was a cute and fun read about a girl finding herself.
Leah is a sheltered girl looking to escape the watchful eye of her father and the multiple bodyguards working for him. She manages to succeed by flying across the country to visit her estranged mother in California. Leah is an exact combination of sassy and sweet…Dom describes her perfectly.
“She was a cute, awkward smart ass who was too sweet and friendly for her own good.”
Dom has moved away from his broken family in Chicago to work his way up in the security world. He was assigned to fly to California to track down Leah and bring her back to the East Coast.
As the two spend more time together, the sexual tension is undeniable and finally comes to a head. Dom needs to decide if Leah is worth ending the career he has based his entire future on.
“I’m not thinking about the ramifications of this tonight. We’ll deal with all that when we go back.”
Overall, I would rate this book 3 stars. It was a little too predictable for me when it comes to a bodyguard / daddy’s girl romance.
I received a copy for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I really enjoyed this romantic and well written story of Leah and Dominic getting to know each other and ultimately falling in love. Leah is the daughter of a wealthy man who loves her but is overly protective of her. She is under the constant watch of her bodyguard. Determined to have a life of her own, she escapes her bodyguard and goes to California to see her mother. This trip turns out to be a huge disappointment and Leah reluctantly leaves when her new (and totally hot!) bodyguard Dominic turns up to take her home. After Leah gets back home she is determined to continue pursuing her own life and Dom is always along. I loved seeing Leah and Dom's feelings grow from mutual mistrust to love. Falling in love a big risk for Dom who is employed by Leah's father and is not paid to fall in love with his daughter.
Leah💃💋, pampered daughter of a wealthy man is feeling smothered. She leaves home and goes to California, as far away from her father as she can get. She makes a list of things she wants to do with her new freedom. She wants to be on her own. Leah's mother lives in California and she goes to see Her but finds out Her mother is into snorting coke and young boyfriends. What a letdown! Her father sends Dominic🐺🍆🌋🔫🔪, a private security man, to protect her from herself. Daddy doesn't realize he should send someone else to protect her from Dminic!🐺🍆🌋🔫🔪 Leah and Dominic begin a slow burn🔥 affair.......Could it be 💘love?
ARC Received from HG, I also got the book with KU.
Leah risk everything to get away from her overprotective father. She want to visit her mom who turn out to be a awful person. Leah’s father sent Dominic who is a security. When Leah was younger she had a stalker who was a ex employee of her dad who almost kidnapped her. Leah wants to have freedom and not have a body guard with her everywhere she goes. Leah and her friend Aubrey go to a festival. Dominic and Davies goes with them. Leah and Dominic hooked up and they are perfect for each other. Dominic tells her dad that he’s fallen in love with his daughter and he gets fired but still ends up with Leah. Her dad gave them his blessing and her dad are in a better place now.
I really enjoyed this book! Very well written.. I did find that somethings could have played out differently and made it more exciting but none the less still good!
Characters were great! Felt a bit sorry for Leah at times, I know her dad cares and wants the best for her.. but he just seemed like an arse most of the time! Let the girl live a little!
I didn’t understand why the girls had body guards as there wasn’t any drama actually happening, I thought maybe some actual threat could have been thrown in there but still.
But taking everything into account it was a good book and a very easy romantic read!
I absolutely LOVED this book! Once I started Risk, I literally could not put it down until I finished. Not only is it a hot and steamy romance, but the author, K.B. Rose had me howling with laughter throughout the story with comedic anecdotes. Leah, an affluent young woman, ditches her life in New York in order to take “risks” with her mom in Los Angeles. When her dictator of a dad finds out she is missing he sends one of his security personnel, Dominic, to go out and bring her back. After they meet, they cannot deny the electric charge between them. It’s a new age Romeo and Juliet story and I highly suggest everyone read this book today!
This is a bodyguard romance with good characters and a smoothly flowing storyline. Dominic climbed the ladder on his own; Leah is from a wealthy family and has been sheltered. I did want to punch Leah’s dad a lot but liked the others.
My only real issue with this book was the editing. There are several errors with words left out of sentences, extra words put in, or the wrong word used. It is easily readable so I did not knock off a star. Hopefully this author will get a better editor.
An amazing book. Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wow wow wow!!!! 🔥Completely loved this book & reading how Dom & Leah’s story played out. I feel there could be more to come as other characters were introduced, I’d love to read more....!!
