While I love the artwork of the book I'm not a fan of the message in this story, I think it sends the wrong message to kids. I remember having fun and games with my friends put an end to because teachers wouldn't let us have clubs probably because they read this book. I totally reject this idea that everyone needs to be included all the time, sometimes there are good reasons why some people don't like or get along with other people and there's nothing wrong with choosing who you want to spend your time and friendship on. Sometimes kids especially have very..very good reasons for not wanting to be around certain other kids and can't always articulate why. However that's also not what was going on, nobody meant to exclude anyone, the only reason they kept the club small was because the clubhouse was small, that's reasonable. As a kid and as an adult you have to get used to the idea that not everything is going to include you, sometimes your friends will do things without you and sometimes you will do things without other friends.
That being said I do agree that kids should be made more aware of not leaving out their friends unintentionally.
Franklin started a Secret Club and found a very small club house and only invited three of his friends. When other friends wanted to join he told them he was sorry so they started the Adventure Club. When the Adventure Club started to have fun, Fanaklin and his club wanted to join the Adventure Club.
The children decided to combined the two clubs and renamed it the Secret Adventure Club with everyon welcome. This is a great short story to teach about sharing and including everyone.
I kept a copy of Franklin's Secret Club in my classroom library.
This story is about Franklin and his friends creating a club and some of their other friends are left out. Later on, Franklin and his friends become jealous of what they're being left out on. Together, the group of friends work together so they can all be in a club. They also give each other apologies. This book serves a good lesson about including others and compromising so everyone can enjoy the fun.
Franklin starts a club but only invites 3 friends because the tree they meet in isn't big enough for more. When Beaver asks to join the club, Franklin has to say no which causes Beaver to create her own club. This book could be used in the classroom to teach children about leaving others out and how it isn't a nice feeling.
"Franklin's Secret Club" is a children's book by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark. In this story, Franklin the turtle and his friends decide to form a secret club. However, Franklin soon realizes that keeping secrets and excluding others can lead to hurt feelings. As the story unfolds, Franklin learns about the importance of inclusivity, fairness, and kindness.
This is a nice story with a lesson. Franklin has a secret club, but he excludes a friend. She starts her own club and Franklin learns what it is like to be excluded. They end up combining their two clubs into one big club.
My 4-year-old loves reading about Franklin. As a parent, I like that the stories have a good moral to them. This one taught Franklin to be kind to everyone so he wouldn't hurt their feelings and in turn, they were kind to him.
In this Franklin book it helps teach children how it feels to be 'left out' or if you are left out how sad you can be. How important it is to include all your friends when you are doing stuff.
