Do you believe in fate? I didn’t. I’d worked since childhood to become an NFL starting quarterback. All the blood, sweat, and tears were about to pay off with my name in the record books. Setting an NFL record was going to be the crowning achievement of my career. Hell, of my life. But then fate, the cagey bitch, threw me a curveball I never saw coming. I ended up trapped in a doomsday bunker with four strangers, my chances at that record slipping away as days turned into months. I never would’ve given Erin a second look. She was gorgeous, sure, but not my type. I liked women who were strong. Fearless. Resilient. Not to mention that she hated me. But I was so wrong about her. And in that bunker, I fell in crazy, stupid love. I thought a record would be my greatest triumph. But now, all I want is a shot with Erin. I’ve faced down massive linebackers intent on ending me. For her, I’ll go toe-to-toe with fate.

I actually started this while I was at work, and when I got home, I intended to only read for a short time before bed…yeah, that didn’t happen. That “short time” turned into reading until the end of the book. My bad?
Anyway, I was hooked from the first page. I loved the story of Derek and Erin. I loved watching them become friends and then start to fall for each other.
The author did a great job of making the story, and situation come alive. I can’t imagine being trapped for a day, let alone for the length of them they were in the bunker. And I’m not even claustrophobic. But I would have gone crazy. Granted, I would have had my kindle (because let’s be real…I carry it with me at all times)…and they had power so I guess I’d still be able to read. So that’s something. But I digress.
I thought the author did a great job representing the different types of personalities of the people that were in the bunker together. Each of them handled being trapped differently.
Honestly, I’d love to say more, but to say more, and talk about it in depth would give spoilers away and the book is one that needs to be enjoyed, start to finish with no spoiling.
I’ll just leave you with this…The author knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, and she knows how to keep the pages turning. This is a book that I definitely recommend!
So this review is more of a note to the author in case she reads them ( or a member of her team does). At the end of this book she asks for readers to leave reviews but not to post spoilers. I had to respond to that. My first thought was that it is a rude to try to dictate what a reader may post on their review; I’m not going to let that prejudice me however because it didn’t seem to be said with ill intent. The second thing is that authors need to stop being offended by spoilers. Anyone who doesn’t want to know can choose not to read them, and for some people spoilers are a necessity. I would not have read this book if not for the spoilers left in the review of another book I read by this author. For some of us, reading a book isn’t just the idea that’s projected in movies or TV (something we do in our free time to relax or while on a cruise to the Bahamas). For some of us reading is cathartic and helps proved a desperately needed escape. For myself, I have massive anxiety and sometimes loosing myself in a book is the only non ER visit to head off a panic attack. Sounds dramatic and a touch whiny, I get itC but it’s the nature of the beast unfortunately. Add in that I have an exceptional level of trauma in my background and know that spoilers are required for me. I read them so that I know what I’m getting. A books blurb isn’t enough. Because honestly, how many times does an author sell up certain aspects to get readers, when it may encompass 10% of the plot. I need to know things about the books I’m self medicating with. Is the book going to provide my escape or trigger my issues? Is it going to relax me or send me into a panicked spiral? So onto the actual review. This is an awesome story, it is completely original and non-“tropey” (which I absolutely adore). This isn’t just another indie writer trying her hand at a self published book on Amazon. This is an author, with magnificent talent. So why the 1 - star review you ask? Because among my quirks is the fact that I don’t read 5 star reviews. To many times they are from Facebook club members, ARC receivers, or just random fans too afraid of hurting their fave authors feelings to leave constructive criticism. To be honest, before I stopped reading them, I realized some of them are so full of crap they have to be written by the authors mother. I have learned far more by reading 1 star reviews than I ever have with 5-stars. That being said, yes I do write 5-star reviews when warranted. But for this particular review? I wanted to do my best to ensure that someone reads it ;)
Where do I start? This book blew my mind clean away. Brenda Rothert had me hooked from chapter one and I was riveted until the very end. I just could not put this book down.
This will be one of my shortest reviews ever, as I fear I might accidentally let out a spoiler and I want you all to enjoy the magic that Buried by Brenda Rothert truly is.
This was such an unusual story line; I mean people trapped in a bunker? How did they get there?
Brenda Rothert’s writing is strong and her characters are so well developed that at times they felt “real”. Every time I thought I knew where the book was heading, I was proven wrong, such was the complexity of the story that Ms.Rothert wove.
This has to be one of the best books I have read this year. One click Buried, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
The first 60% of this book was riveting. I read late into the night and was unable to put it down. Sadly, the last 40% felt rushed and needed more character and plot development. I enjoyed the unique storyline and don't regret reading it, but wish the ending had been as entertaining as the beginning.
Erin is out doing a delivery errand for the family business when she finds herself living her worst nightmare. She is trapped in a bunker with no way out.
As she struggles to deal with the situation she finds herself in she eventually adjusts and begins to accept that she may never make it out. Fortunately, she is not alone in her captivity. There are four other people with her. All very different people and they rely on each other to keep their spirits up when some days it feels like there is no hope.
It was like a reality show, being put in a house with strangers and left to your own devices. Each person in the bunker has their own story and the longer they spend together the closer the connection between them all gets. None moreso than Erin and the owner of the bunker, NFL star Derek Heaton.
Erin is not the sort of girl that Derek would ever take a second glance at. After spending so much together in such an emotionally charged situation, he is experiencing a connection with a woman that he is not familiar with. There is so much more to Erin than he first thought and he finds himself falling fast for this incredible woman.
This situation they are all in has secrets and confessions spilling from their hearts and mouths as they slowly accept that they may never make it out. It also is a time to reflect back on their lives so far and they paths they have taken which has led them to where they are now. Whether they make it out alive or not, they will forever be changed by this experience.
This was a really unique plot and I made the mistake of starting to read this at 10.30pm at night and could not put this down until I had finished around 1am. Such a fantastic addictive read!
This was an amazing book based on a unique premise, exploring human strength in the face of adversity, and relationships at close quarters.
"With Derek, I laughed until I snorted, cried, and shared my deepest anxieties. He saw me - and liked me - in all my completely unshaven glory."
Erin Morrison works for her beloved uncle's farm and she's been tasked to make a huge delivery to a lucrative customer. She never expects the events that follow. Events that will test her strength, her fears, and her heart.
"Erin is the woman I never expected to find and never plan to let go."
Derek Heaton has a surprise for his father, however, the last thing he expects is to be trapped in a gift of his own making. What follows makes him question his life, his goals and his priorities.
This was a SUCH a fabulous and unique story. It was filled with tension, heartbreak and self-discovery. It explored human relationships when five people are forced into each other's company at close quarters. It also tests human will and strength in an unchanging environment and when hope begins to wither.
This story was so compelling, sexy, heartfelt and life-affirming. I can't recommend it enough!
I didn't feel anything for any of the characters. The Hero and Heroine felt flat. Both first POV's read and felt the same. There wasn't any distinction between them. Neither one had character. There was no chemistry between the Hero and Heroine. All the interesting parts in the story were told in such a way, that it was impossible for me to form a connection to anything.
Their "rescue" was so sudden and under-emotional. "Hey look guys, we're rescued after 3+ months in the bunker, isn't that great!". It felt very unreal.
And the ending was a huge let down. Why the twist with the "bad guy"? I thought this was unnecessary and didn't do anything good for the story.
The epilogue was also a let down. We're told that they're engaged and that's it. There's not even a bit of space left for Matias. Again we're "told" about him, but that's just not the same.
On a final note: I could've survived this book without the "other female" who was "vain, not nice, a gold-digger, clingy, without any self-worth and at the end a media-grabber". She's the only female character under the age of 50 in this whole book. And she's the reason for the OW-drama (it was a itty bitty drama, not worth mentioning). I hate when the only other female (apart from the heroine) is portrayed as bad and slutty and not worthy of the Hero. This doesn't make the Heroine better! Why couldn't the OW be a confident and capable assistant who doesn't want in the Heroes's pants?

I have so much to say about this book, and I will do my very best to keep it spoiler free. Without a doubt this book is by far my very favorite book. Not only was this a great love story, but it also spoke of 2 things that are very near too me. Kidney failure and child abuse. Derek Heaton is now my all time favorite male character. He may be an NFL star quarter back, but in this story his status wasn't a huge high point and I truly loved that. The man has a ton of money and to be honest the characters in this story didn't treat him like he was a big thing. He was just another man in the book. Erin Morrison she's another story. As I read this book I saw myself as her. Brave, compassionate and sassy when it was called for. Then at other times she folded in on herself. She had it rough, but it never took away her shine. But in my opinion the real star of this story was Matis. Why you ask? Read this book. I can promise no one will be disappointed
WOW!!! BURIED by Brenda Rothert was that in one word. This story is utterly fantastic, and unique. I've been a huge fan of Ms Rothert's for awhile now.
I went into Buried blind, and I'm sooooo glad I read it. I don't want to give away anything, as this book is a must read to be savored and enjoyed by the reader. But I will say you'll be HOOKED by the unique storyline. 5 stars!!!
*i voluntarily read an advance copy. This is my honest review.*
This book was effing amazing! Brenda has brought it and brought it strong. I was hooked right from page one thinking to myself where is this going because I had no idea. It reminded me of the end times because people are stuck in a doomsday bunker.
Derek has it all, he is a star quarterback for the NFL and has his career taking off. He is on top of the world and trying to set a record but then something happens and he ends up in this doomsday bunker with people and he is seriously freaking out. He has things to do and places to be so he does not want to be stuck in this bunker.
While stuck in the bunker he is with a gorgeous woman who he would like to get to know but she hates him and wants nothing to do with him. But as days turns into months Erin breaks down and talks to Derek. Derek is excited because as the days turned into months he fell in love with her.
Will they make it out alive? Will they be able to have a relationship? Or when they get out if they get out can than be with each other and have a happy life? Want the answers to these questions then go one click Buried and get to reading and you will find out! I promise you will.
Buried by Brenda Rothert is a rare gem. It’s one of those books that as soon as you open the first page, you are completely and utterly hooked.
And it’s not just the storyline, but the depth of the characters and the way the book effortlessly unfolds to hold you completely captivated.
Rothert has always been one of my favorite authors, and with this book she cemented her place in my top five!
I loved this book so much, that I telling all my friends to grab it immediately. It is worth every second of feels. You will devour it and love it and find yourself wanting to read it all over again.
This is one of those books that I kept saying one more chapter until the next thing I knew I was done. It kept me wanting to find out what was going to happen next until the very end.
The backstory of the characters and the interactions between all of them just had me falling in love with a couple of them. I couldn't read the story fast enough because I was so engrossed with it. It truly is a book that I enjoyed and I love the way the author tells a story.
4.5 stars. I absolutely loved and devoured this book but my review is going to be short and sweet because I’m so scared of spoiling any of the plot points! So I’ll just say I couldn’t put it down and the storyline was unique and something I haven’t read before! Loved it.
Wow! What a roller coaster ride. Prepare to have your mind blown! Hooked from the beginning to end. Loved Derek and Erin and their unique story. A must read.
This book is incredible. I could not put it down and didn’t. Fast paced, strong writing and characters and a very interesting storyline makes this a must read. One of my favorite books of this year. Grab it you won’t be disappointed
Upon review of excerpts from the book - I do not like how the hero states he doesn’t feel the urge to fuck the heroine’s out like he does with other women and also the fact that other women may have naked pictures of him. That is ridiculous and not my kind of a hero.

With Buried, Brenda Rothert has crafted a tale that is unique and intriguing and will keep you captivated and turning pages until the very end.
I wasn't sure what to think when I read the synopsis for this book, but I was completely surprised by the plot, the characters and the twists and turns that just kept coming.
This review is intentionally vague, as you need to go into this book with no preconceived notions.
I received a free copy through InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.
4.5 stars — FUCK that was good. I’ve only read two books by Ms. Rothert so far, and I LOVED Hooked, so I wanted to try another one. And wow. I started this at 11pm in bed, and I was up until 2:30, almost reading the whole thing in one sitting. (and honestly, the only reason I didn’t is because, well…let’s just say it inspired me in other ways. *wink*)
I’m not sure what I expected from this story. I really don’t. I had vague ideas, but I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. I didn’t reread the blurb before diving in, so I went in with only the broad strokes in my mind. And I kind of liked that. I knew it was going to be different, and I LOVED the mystery aspect, and almost suspense of the beginning. I appreciated that the story had a lot of balance in the storytelling. There were moments that got my mind racing, and then things would settle down so I could get to know Derek and Erin and fall in love with them.
I loved that both characters started off a little flawed, but they both grew and changed as the story went on. Erin had such a heartbreaking story, and I loved the things she learned about herself…how her perspective was changed, and she finally understood how strong she really was. She was such a sensitive soul, and it was easy to connect with her.
Derek was just a solid, good guy. I love good guy heroes. He had his own issues driving him to succeed, and it was interesting to see how the time “buried” affected him and his priorities.
And I LOVED the way the relationship developed between the two of them. I truly felt their chemistry, from the slowly developing friendship to more. It felt authentic, and it had me invested in the two of them. They also made me laugh so much with their easy bantering…I loved that Erin didn’t give Derek an easy pass. I also loved the way things played out in the 2nd “half”, and how they handled the new challenges. Their romance made me so happy, and was the highlight of the story for me (even though it truly had a lot of great things going for it).
I can’t finish this review without mentioning Matias. What a strong secondary character. I loved the relationship he had with both Erin and Derek. Through their friendship with him, I learned even more about them as individuals.
So yeah. Loved it. Such a compelling story that had me not wanting to put it down, and definitely kept me on my toes with a few surprises.
I’ll say from the outset that ‘Buried’ rubbed me the wrong way. I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but putting people in a forced underground bunker albeit by accident wasn’t the scenario I’d envisioned at all. Being stuck in close quarters or rather, cabin fever does make people do things they normally wouldn’t—including hooking up with other people who don’t normally cross their radar.
The life-changing event took place long enough to get everyone’s priorities rearranged while showing up the good, bad and the ugly. But that this was the basis of Erin’s and Derek’s relationship bothered me more than it should, because I wasn’t convinced that he would have spared her a second glance otherwise, nor chosen a woman like her to fit that smarmy playboy athlete lifestyle. How often has the excuse of sports taking up so much time that it becomes a valid reason to become a player on and off the field?
That he also had the urge not to ‘fuck’ her as he did with other women (as usual, she made him want more when he never wanted before, though I’d question if this was just prolonged cabin fever talking)…was a comparison that proved the last straw and an absolute put-off.
It was far easier to like Erin’s more even keel and compassion, and her matter-of-fact view of the player lifestyle not meshing with hers, and how she didn’t turn hysterical when it was clear that their time together was up.
The twist at the end felt more like something done for shock value (things just didn’t really add up satisfactorily as well), after which we were skipped straight to the epilogue. It didn’t seem to do much more other than add an unfinished touch to the entire story, instead worsening what already was a middling read for me.
This book is different, but a good different. It is refreshing to read a story that is not like a lot of other stories. I have never thought what it would be like to have to live in a survival bunker, especially with four strangers and locked in. Derek is a winning pro quarterback. He has lived his life for football. Can you imagine what that would be like not to be training, playing ball with his teammates, not being in the spotlight? Erin had a hard time as she is claustrophobic because of something terrible that happened to her when she was a toddler. Matias is a sweet college student that has the whole world in front of him, but has a kidney problem and needs dialysis and a transplant. Erin is so busy being such a good person taking care of Matias, this helps getting her mind being locked in the doomsday bunker. Kendra is a piece of work who is Derek’s assistant. She thinks she is irresistible and Derek should be all over her. Boyce is the last person in there that is a worker there to pull cables. They hope someone will come rescue them soon, but the days keep going by. There is a lot of time for Derek and Erin to do some thinking on what is important in life and what each would do if they ever get out. You need to read the book to get the full experience. It is a book you will not what to put down! I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
Buried was one of those books that kept me guessing until the end. It had more suspense than I anticipated which definitely added to the flavor of the story. The premise is that Derek, a successful NFL quarterback has built a survival bunker for his father on his property and is stocking it. He and several other people, including Erin, are accidentally trapped in the bunker with no way to communicate with the outside world. They have to hope that someone will eventually be able to find the bunker, even though it's very well camouflaged. When people are placed in close quarters in a survival type situation like that, their true colors definitely shine through and you see both the good and bad in them. Derek and Erin find out a lot about themselves and also end up falling in love with one another. However, they both wonder what will happen when they get out. If they get out. Can their relationship work in the real world ? What will happen when Derek goes back to playing football and resumes his celebrity status and Erin goes back to leading hikes for a local camp? Will love be enough?
Ms. Rothert did a really nice job with the elements of this story. I loved how the title referred to several things in the book. You initially will think it purely represents the fact that they are "buried" because they're trapped in the bunker, but there are some other tie-ins as well. You'll understand it as you read the book.
Um... this book deserves more then 5 stars!!! I'm just saying!
I have read most books by Brenda and have loved almost all of them, but this one (THIS ONE) outshines them all! I cannot give this book enough praise. If you are expecting a usual love story, this isn't it. This one is about 5 people trapped in a bunker. Yes, they have clean air, food, water and electricity... but just imagine being stuck somewhere for any length of time and imagine how you would feel. No sunlight, no rain, no sky.... Ya, I wouldn't like it. But thats the setting of the book.
Now I am hoping you are wondering how they got down there? Were they locked in? Did they willingly get locked it? How long are they down there for? Does anything happen to them? Is this like the Hunger Games - survival of the fittest?
Are you intrigued? If yes, one click this book and enjoy!
I read this book in two sittings over one day. I could not get enough. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Ohh I love when an author blows my mind in a book. Like I couldn’t put the book down or I couldn’t believe what I was reading and sooo many surprises that kept me guessing and turning those pages.
Buried by Brenda Rothert is just one of those books. I have never read a book like this before and I love that. I read soo many books now and I love them all the same, but then there is a book like this one that will knock your socks off!!
I had no idea what Buried was about. I just love Rothert's writing and I was like sure, sign me up. I would love to read!! As always, I feel that is the way to go in, BLIND!!! Don’t read reviews..lol Don’t spoil if for yourself. This will be the best advice you are given. Just know you definitely need to one click on release day and lock yourself up in a room and get lost in this 5 Star read!!!
Sorry about the vague review..but really, you will appreciate it after you read for yourself...eeepppp it is sooo freaking good!!
PS. I love this cover…Great job Brenda Rothert…another wonderful, suck you in from the first chapter kinda read!!!
How do you write a review about this story without any spoilers. So I won’t say too much because you just gotta experience every moment of this book yourself. I can say this much, it is like none other I read before. The storyline so unique, captivating you from the moment you start to the moment you finish. I know the hard work Brenda put into this book and all I can say is it was worth it. Every second of it. Absolutely amazing, brilliantly written....a definite recommend, a not to be missed read and a definite 5 star read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
