Having now read the whole series back-to-back the similarities between the books are many and obvious. In fact, I think copy-and-paste must have been a frequently used tool during the writing. The general plot, of this book and indeed the whole series, all follow and share the same structure which isn't a problem, except you know how the book will evolve. However, the dialogue and description in the courtroom, the interaction between Harvey and the always-so-sexy prosecutor, the theatrics in the court room, they're very close to identical from book to book; to the point you can predict the next sentence. Characters are so alike they blend into one....one prosecutor, one judge, one detective. You don't have to be an attorney to recognise all the court cases are strong for the defence, with only some circumstantial evidence requiring explaining away. However, to strengthen the plot you're told repeatedly the case looks lost. Really? Every case this attorney handles is a result of the LAPD, who Harvey has supposedly the utmost respect for, arresting the wrong person out of expediency, laziness or stupidity, even when the murdered child is "one of their own". The reader can't be fooled so easy.
It's not difficult to pick holes in both this book and the series although I still describe them as very satisfying reads. I mostly enjoyed them for what they are: short, undemanding, feel-good reads, However, I'm glad Bill Harvey is retiring

I enjoyed the quick read, although I wish Mr. O'Mahoney would hire an American proof reader. This is not meant to be a jingoistic comment, but rather an objective observation focusing on the differences and meanings of words in English speaking countries. We don't have "football matches"in the United States, but "games". Yes soccer "matches" are universal but not when referring to American football. In baseball we "hit" the ball not "strike it" as the author references in an observation regarding Connor's baseball skills. Lastly, although all five books have similar issues, we have "elevators" not "lifts". The books are set in the United States, all characters are Americans, the use of English/British words/phrases takes away from the books authenticity. Sorry, I can't help myself, no murder trial is schedule for three days, weeks or months, but never days.

Enjoyable read

If like a good who done it, then I think you'll like this book. It's a quick read while the author develops the characters and provides a plot. I love criminal legal thrillers and this didn't diappoint.

I give this a 4 because by the time you get to the end you forget who the character was.

Fooled me

This is a casa where all the evidence points to the suspect which is Harvey's client. Along the way Harvey investigates and tries to find another suspect but you will be surprised at the outcome.

Not a thriller

There is nothing thrilling about this book. It has average writing and a predictable plot. And characterizing the writing as average is being generous. Not recommended.

Confusion in Court

Clearly, this is a who done it type of novel. Lots of folks are interviewed, with each denying commission.
The court scenes do appear to be authentic. However,
much of the dialogue is confusing and contains written
errors.
