Liam I was kicked out at sixteen for being transgender, but it turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to me. At twenty-one, I have a fantastic new family made up of my brother and a handful of wonderful friends, I own my own photography business, and I’m happier than I imagined possible. There’s just one thing missing… Okay, maybe two…
Wyatt When I took the position volunteering as a therapist at Rainbow House, I knew I’d found my place in the world: helping teens who had been rejected by their families. What I didn’t expect was the friendship I formed with Liam or how it would grow over the years into a crush I just couldn’t shake. I’m happy to see him finally opening himself up to dating with someone he trusts like Owen. But when he comes to me and asks if I can help his boyfriend, I feel like there’s more to the request than just a few therapy sessions. The more I get to know Owen, the more I like him, too.
Owen I’m not sure why I believe so much in fate when she’s dealt me nothing but crappy hands—a stint in prison and enough childhood horrors to fuel all my adult nightmares. But I still hold on to the idea that everything happens for a reason. What I can’t figure out is why fate would plop me naked into Liam’s bed under the pretext of helping him with a photo series for a gallery showing. Or why my stomach goes funny every time he smiles at me. Liam is too sweet to be exposed to my demons, but I don’t know how to protect him…Maybe that’s why fate gave us Wyatt.
***This is the seventh book in the Heathens Ink series. Each book in the series CAN be read as a stand-alone, but characters do re-occur so it’s more fun to read them all!
K.M.Neuhold has long since been a romance junkie. When she’s not writing she’s reading or spending time snuggling with her husky or her husband. She fell in love with M/M romance last year and hasn’t been able to turn back. There’s nothing she loves more than love in all its forms.
I thought this was a superb addition to the Heathens Ink series and a well executed narrative which showed exactly how a polygamous relationship can work perfectly.
Liam's romance is one I've been looking forward to since he first arrived on the scene in Royal's book but I hadn't expected him to follow in his big brother's footsteps and into a triad.
But it absolutely worked and you can see there's been plenty of research done into how a FtM transgender character might feel about their body and their sexual identity and I think this book explores that in an honest and open way.
I loved the emotions between the three men and how each brought their own unique strengths to the other two. This is a great MMM romance with no hint of dramady surrounding the relationship.
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
**** M + M + M = a triad or threesome or menage, an awesome journey ! We are given a magnificent lesson about transgender men and what they face. It's fascinating and I googled "packer" and I have much more information than I used to. Our hopeful imminent threesome are; * Liam, 21, a trans man, successful photographer hoping for his two loves to be on board;
* Wyatt 30, a therapist who works free time at Rainbow House, and
* Owen, 30, a tattoo artist at Heathens Ink, has PTSD and horrific nightmares from his past.
The characters are thoroughly explained and we are with them on this journey. I like the even pace, the many inner thoughts, their deep emotions, and heartbreaking pasts.
We gather a few tears along the way. We see their ups and downs, the crappy families they came from, fumbles, firsts and very hot sex scenes.
3.5 I think this is officially the first MM romance I've read with a trans MC! <3 I loved learning about Liam, and I truly appreciate the amount of research it must have taken to do him justice - not to mention the men who contributed their own personal experiences so Neuhold could write this.
I was so intrigued by this MMM because Liam, one of the MCs, is a trans guy. I'd never read an MMM story with a trans guy before and am a huge fan of transgender gay romances, so this was a no-brainer for me.
I wasn't disappointed. You could tell that Neuhold did a lot of research about what being trans is like and portrayed it sensitively, because it had a very similar feel to the books I've read by own-voices trans authors. I love that Liam, while not very confident in his sexual experience or in his body, knows exactly what he wants, has known it for a while, and sets out to get it. I love that he's known both of these guys for years and is able to trust them to love him for who he is, and I love that even after they've had (super super hot) threesome sex together, doubt still creeps back in. The story never feels rushed and you really get to sink into the budding relationships that blossom between Liam, Wyatt, and Owen, separately as couples and together as a triad.
Wyatt and Owen's backstories also contributed some drama and mystery to the story which really complemented their romance arcs and didn't feel like a side dressing. My heart broke for Owen and Wyatt, and I love that these three men, who are in so many ways able to sympathize with each other's pasts, finally found one another.
KM Neuhold excels at writing adorably sexy MMM romances that make you go "awww" and fan yourself all at once. This is by far the sexiest of the bunch. I mean, omg. Seriously, go read this~
I received an ARC and am voluntarily posting a review being this is awesome-sauce.
Edited review after getting more information, 3/18.
Note: The blurb inside the book implies that this is a romance between a trans guy, his boyfriend who has PTSD & the therapist who worked with the trans MC as a kid & is providing therapy to him & his boyfriend. However, I have just learned from a reader that this is not the case; the therapist character never did therapy with either of the other MCs in the polyamorous relationship, and the trans MC was not a client at the place where he provided therapy, but a volunteer. (see full description from the reader below in a comment, should you want more info.)
Given this new clarifying information, I am going to think about whether this book might be for me.
Maybe with a different narrator, I would have enjoyed this. This narrator only has two voices. A twink and a bear. And this is a MMM story where every character from previous novels and other novels play a big rol. All read in two voices. I just let it wash over me and stopped trying to find a cohesive plotline.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Owen, Wyatt and Liam. I thought the author did a great job with Liam, which is a trans man. Even though I’ve read hundreds of LGBT romance books, I’ve only seen five trans characters represented and that’s sad. Even though Liam was quite young compared to his boyfriends, I like he was sure in his desires with his partners. I like (maybe bad phrasing) how their crappy upbringings brought them closer. The only issue I had was the lack of angst. Sure, the issue with Owen’s PTSD and his father dying were angst ridden moments but it seems like the characters breezed pass those issues quickly.
I really loved this Heathens book best of all. Owen, Wyatt and Liam are very well put together characters and K.M. Neuhold did Liam's character justice. Very tastefully done.
2.5 stars I'm conflicted because I really, really hate the way this author writes, but I like her characters. As such this was a sweet, relatively low angst read that irritated the fucking shit out of me every few pages.
I haven't read the last couple books in this series. After the first four I said I was done. Done with the cliches, the awkward present tense, the overly pc way the author explains every little joke or action a character makes that might be construed as potentially offensive, the way the drama always gets resolved off page...
But Liam. He was a special character introduced in Going Commando and I wanted to see him get his HEA.
I was so excited to get Liam's book in FLASH ME because we've watched him grow up and find his true family through the whole of the HEATHENS INK series. He first shows up in book 2 after being kicked out by his father but he's quickly taken in by his half-brother Royal and this is where Liam's family truly begins. I've loved watching Liam grow confident in himself and develop a career as a photographer. Readers of the whole series knew early on that Owen would be his love interest because Liam has had a huge crush from the moment he lays eyes on Owen. I'm glad that K.M. Neuhold gave Liam the time to grow up and waited to write his story until Liam was 21. He's definitely mature for his age but still has that boundless energy and optimism of youth. Making things even better, Liam meets Wyatt, a therapist at Rainbow House and their friendship becomes an important part of Liam's life. (Wyatt does not act as a therapist to either Owen or Liam)
While Liam already knows both Owen and Wyatt it was nice to see things change from friendship to lovers. I've always liked Owen's character, though we haven't known much about him since he's pretty reserved. Owen might be quiet but once he begins to see Liam as a potential lover he goes all in. I love how devoted Owen is to Liam and they're really sweet together. Owen is a born protector but the abuse his father put him through as a child has left mental scars that have eroded Owen's self worth.
Wyatt is a newer character that hasn't appeared in previous books but he's become close friends with Liam. Wyatt is so compassionate, gives freely of his time, and is a loyal friend. By the time he realizes he might be interested in a relationship, Liam is already dating Owen and Wyatt thinks he's missed his opportunity. Little does he know! Even though Liam is the one that brings the three together I liked that we also saw a one-on-one relationship developing between Wyatt and Owen and it's clear that they like each other too and aren't just in this triad for Liam.
Things move slowly at first since Liam has never really dated and is still struggling with body confidence around other people. As a trans man Liam just wants to be himself and feel comfortable in his own body without being judged or found lacking. The ways Owen and Wyatt support and care for Liam were really beautiful. There's also a lot of positive portrayals of therapy in FLASH ME and I enjoyed the scenes with Liam and his therapist, Alex.
Was this book sugary sweet and low angst? Absolutely yes and I loved it because of that. Sometimes I just want to watch people fall in love and work things out easily; I'm a sucker for soft and sweet romances that are also super sexy and FLASH ME hits that spot.
Content Warning: past childhood abuse and on page nightmares and PTSD; on page discussion of body dysphoria; past transphobia from family
Alright.... sooooo, again... I am not a fan of m/m/m... I am far too psycho to share. I know this about myself, and I don't ever understand how there can be no jealousy and whatnot... In saying that... I adored both triad's in this series, and i have been looking forward to Owen and Liam for what feels like, so long! I didn't feel like they were missing anything together until I met Wyatt. He fit with them perfectly, and my heart hurt for him so bad when he was on the outside looking in, crushing on them both, but being too good of a friend to do anything about it. I loved Wyatt, plain and simple. I was so glad he got his HEA.
With Liam, I was so incredibly impressed with the way he was handled. While I can think of the obvious ways in which a trans man or woman would feel, or think... I was so clueless about so much. I loved the realness of him and his insecurities. I loved the way he viewed himself and the way he let the guys in. It was a little exhausting in the beginning, jumping from POV to POV to POV... and I thought it took them all a while to get "there"..... but it was so worth it, once they did.
Owen... broody at first, secretive, hardend, convict, Owen... you wouldn't believe his transformation in this story. He's like a different person than he was in the beginning, but in the best way, because he's accepted the fact that he has feelings for Royal's little brother....who he suddenly stopped seeing as Royal's little brother and the confident, flirty and sometimes shy and vulnerable man that he is. .... I loved his progression and the person he came to be with the help of his men. Knowing what he'd been through was tough... especially not getting justice for what he was imprisioned for and why.... that gutted. I hate when people get away with being terrible, especially to their family.... in Owen's case, it was his dad. I hated that he got away with what he did and Owen paid for it, and he got no consequenses. That isn't fair and it makes me a little sick to think about. That's really the only problem I had with this one....it might even be one of my favorites of the series. I'm really hoping to see Kyle next!!
And lastly... the growing of everyone's family. Madden and Thane and their babies, Gage and Adam getting a piece of preciousness.... I'm just loving it all over. I really hope this isn't the end for these guys. I could read about them forever! 5 stars from me!
Let me just preface by saying that I normally enjoy KM Neuhold's books and writing style, but this one didn't really work for me. It seemed like it was mostly about sex in place of a good story line which is weird because there was less sex than in a lot of other books. Also, I just haven't had good luck with throuples in books. Most of the time it feels like there's not a good balance in the relationship and in this one it felt as if Liam was the center and most important. The other two were (rightly) so careful with him because of his dysphoria that he unwittingly was in control. Also, it doesn't go into their backgrounds as much as it should have because there was some really important aspects that affected them as people.
It truly could have been a "it's me not you situation" because most people seemed to love this one.
On a wholly different note, I just want to say that my heart goes out to trans people because it can't be easy for them and I support them wholeheartedly.
I thought Liam's story (back from when we met him in Going Commando) to now was inspiring and informative regarding FTM transition. I loved that he has come into his own and knows just what he wants. And that happens to be his longtime crush, Owen, even if Owen does has some issues. But he has also has feelings for his good friend, Wyatt.
What is a young man to do when he is in love with two? Liam has lived with his brother's triad since he was a teen, so he knows just what he hopes he can make happen for himself. And he also hopes that he will be accepted for the man he has worked hard to become.
When I first met Liam, he was a scared boy. Throughout the Heathen’s Ink series, I have watched him grow and fall in love. Being able to finally see him with his truly HEA, makes me happy. It’s awesome to know that when you find an author that speaks to you, that you can trust that you will not be let down. K.M. Has held up her end of the bargain and has written another beautiful story. Thank You, M’dear❤️
Really enjoyed Liam, Wyatt, and Owen’s story. I thought the aspect of a polygamous relationship was handled well, as was one being transgender and one dealing with past trauma.
Another great book added to this series. I love this patched together family, and everyone we have met along the way so far.
We finally learn what Liam’s Owl tattoo represents, and its super cute.
I love that Liam got his own book after meeting him in Book 2, Going Commando. And I loved that he ended up being Polyamorous and got his own happy ending with Owen and Wyatt. From the previous books, we get to see Liam growing up and transitioning in more ways than one. I don’t really know a whole lot of details regarding trans people and their community in real life and the daily struggles they face, I just know some of the basics, but it seemed to me that the author really did a significant amount of homework and research to make sure that everything was written well and not offensive to anyone. I think this part of his story was written really well. We get to see him finding his place and falling in love with both men, separately but at the same time. Watching him navigate past all the layers of the insecurities he still carries around was interesting to see, made us feel everything right along with him. I really appreciated that added depth to the storyline.
Owen’s family drama was an interesting twist. Right from the start when we met Owen, we got hints that something deep was going on, so it was nice to finally get the background details on that explained as well. I hate that he had to go through all that and endure what he did, but think that his character was made stronger for it.
Wyatt... I just loved Wyatt, what a fun character he was. Super nerdy with his bowties, but still playful and smart, he was really the glue that brought and kept them all together and on the right path. Wyatt was given a really interesting past, which I believe made their ménage and his aversion to it at the beginning more believable, we can totally see where he is coming from and why he didn’t like the thought of it before they meshed out the details.
I really do like MMM/Ménage books, but, sometimes the writing and the relationship between three men can be off balance and not come across very well on page. And this was not the case here. I really liked that they all agreed on the terms of their relationship and expectations without a lot of fuss, *sex only when the three are together* (even though personally that would not have been my choice, I don’t mind a free for all between three people together and separately) They were really all on the same page right from the start, making a great foundation for a sturdy and long-term relationship together. This book was great all around. And I really want to see Kyle’s HEA up next.

Another win for K.M. Neuhold!! While I have loved all of her Heathens Ink series I must admit this book was a first for me. I’ve tried before and never been able to get into a book who’s MC is transgender, even if they had been a character in other books of a well loved series. But Liam is something else, we’ve all loved him since his appearance in Going Commando and in this book we fall completely in love with him and his men. I felt his pain, his struggle and his joy. The same with Owen, we all knew he had a past, but reading about it brings tears to your eyes and makes you want to hunt down the people who hurt him! With Wyatt you feel his heartache at wanting to be happy for Liam and depressed that he (feels) he missed his chance. When they all come together it’s explosive!
K.M. has a way of writing that pulls you in so you feel as though you know the characters, that you are reading about friends, family. With her books I don’t read, I devour them. And then they become an old friend that I read over and over. This book also taught me something, something I would never have even thought of. And because of that I now identify myself as a heterosexual Cis woman. So thank you K.M. not only for another amazing book, but for the knowledge of Cis-gender
This book is amazing!! I’ve been looking forward to Liam’s book since reading about him in Going Commando and it was so worth the wait, it was great to see him grown up and finding confidence and acceptance in himself. I loved getting to know Owen better as he’s always been a bit mysterious, though I expected him to have a dark background I didn’t think it would be so intense and I have to admit my heart broke for him. Wyatt is the perfect third for them and I love the relationship between each of them in pairs and together. This book is filled with moments of emotional pain, struggle, acceptance, love, family, strength, laughter and sexy times and I loved every minute of it 😁
This is a sweet, beautiful story about three men’s journey towards each other. Liam, Wyatt and Owen have been in each other’s orbit for years. Owen and Wyatt are several years older. Causing them to have issues were Liam is concerned, but wanting him nonetheless. Both men worried that a triad won’t work.
Liam decided that when he turned twenty-one he was old enough to go for what he wanted. He is transgender, not fully comfortable with his body, unsure of how the men will react to him but knowing he needs both men in his life and bed.
I’ve been waiting for their story for a while. It was worth the wait. The insecurities all three men deal with seems to be realistic. The story telling is good, giving each man a strong voice. I enjoyed it.
Flash Me is the seventh book in the A Heathens Ink series! It's a MMM story, and we finally get Liam's story! And of course his men, Wyatt and Owen!
-"...You should never wait to tell someone how you feel. It might be too late before you get around to it. It might not be as extreme as death, but that doesn't mean it can't end up being too late."
All the feels that's in this book! The chemistry between the men is so perfect!
-"Dear god, please give me the strength not to murder. Love, Royal, Amen," my brother mutters, looking at the ceiling."
It was so great "meeting" the previous characters, knowing they still had their happily ever after! And then some!
"This is really happening. I'm about to walk out of my bedroom and go on a date with the man I've been crushing on since I was sixteen."
I really didn't want this story to end. I was teary eyed when I got to "the end". As usually, the author knows how to keep you from closing the book and make you feel it all!
-"Going to therapy doesn't make you weak. Asking for help is the strongest thing you can do."
Like all the books in this series, this one is a touch heavy on the angst for me -- but the relationship works, and it's the first time I have EVER read a romance/erotica book in which a major character is a trans man. It's respectful, thoughtful, and detailed -- both physically and emotionally -- and I loved seeing that representation. I can't speak 100% for it being perfect, but it felt right, and the author credits friends who helped with the details, which I suspect were trans men as well. Five stars for a much-needed realistic story about a trans man's love and sexual relationship with his partners.
I have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever!
You know the moment when you connect with a character, the moment when you just know that their journey is going to break you in the most beautiful way.. that was the moment I first read Lia. I’ve never felt more connected to a character than I do Liam! I’m so happy that he got his happily ever after and I’m beyond thrilled that it was with Owen and Wyatt! I can not wait to see what comes next for this family down at Heathens Ink because I know it is going to be amazing!
I wasn't super impressed with this, even though I've liked the rest of the Heathen's Ink series.
I felt the story was superficial as most of it focused on the triad getting together on a practical level and not their connection. Furthermore, all MCs have interesting back stories and issues that could have been super interesting to focus more on, but again, I found it lacking.
I think it was partially because of the very frequent change of storyteller that I never really got to know the characters and therefore had a hard time feeling them as a unit.
Yes we have Liam's story and OMG it is amazing!! I love see as Liam grows as a person and gain confidence. Then we have Owen which is great to learn more about him and K.M. Neuhold doesn't disappointed. And lastly Wyatt is just prefect for these two and the prefect third in this relationship. They just all work together and I just love how K.M. Neuhold bring so much emotion into this story. I laugh, I cry and I just fall in love with this whole book. A prefect addition in this series!
What a sweet installment this was! And that cover is perfect! Wyatt with his beanie and bowtie, Owen with his beard and tattoos, and then Liam, front and center, exactly as I pictured him. Liam is so confident about the things he wants and about many aspects of his life, yet completely vulnerable at the same time about others.
Liam knows he wants a poly relationship, just like his brother, Royal and his two men. He has always had a crush on tattoo artist, Owen, who works at Heathen’s Ink with Royal. But now he is also crushing on his friend Wyatt. He finally gets the nerve to go out with Owen, who takes a tiny bit of convincing giving their almost 10 year age gap and Owen’s nightmare issues. Owen knows all about Liam which definitely makes things easier. They start dating, and before long, Liam is comfortable enough to bring up the topic of a poly relationship which it turns out Owen isn’t completely opposed to – it would just have to be the right guy.
Meanwhile, Liam has been subtly encouraging Wyatt and Owen to get to know one another. Wyatt was just about at the point where he realized he wanted to be more than friends with Liam when Liam told him he was dating Owen. So, he carried on with being the best friend. Everything works out exactly as Liam had hoped though, and Wyatt and Owen got along really well. Having been brought up by a polygamist Mormon father with like 5 wives has left a really bad taste in Wyatt’s mouth, so needless to say, he takes a bit more convincing to enter a relationship with two guys.
I really liked how this all played out, from the menage aspect to the trans issues Liam faced. I had no trouble understanding where each guy was coming from and the issues they faced. This is clearly a case where you are better off without the family you were given and much better off with the family you make. These guys are surrounded by people who love and support them, and they become everything each other needs. Clearly, this threesome is perfect for each other, and I hope we get to see more of them in the future.
Liam is the younger brother of Royal, born “female” and has undergone the grueling, lengthy process of physically becoming a man. He knows he’s polyamorous, too, and has his sights set on two very specific men. Wyatt is a therapist at Rainbow House and has known Liam since he first showed up at RH looking for Royal. They’d become fast friends after passing Liam off to a fellow therapist. Owen’s been an artist at Heathen’s for about 5 years. He’s the quietest of the group and is battling some mean demons. Fate and a birthday begin to lay the groundwork for these three guys as they slowly (excruciatingly) open their eyes and see one another and acknowledge their attractions. While the writing is always smooth and the cast enjoyable, this one felt like it took a very long time to get off the ground. There were a handful of notable errors, making me think the author’s proofreader(s) and/or editor was/were not paying close attention to this one – unfortunately. The secondary cast was fun and lent a suitable supporting hand to the plot. Predictability was low. The conclusion is satisfying enough as is, but it was not a truly “SOLID” HEA. More like an HFN that may continue in the background of future books in the series. . This is a series I’ve really enjoyed and I’ve been itching to read Liam’s story. I really wanted him to find someone worthy of him, as he deserved the world, but he ended up finding two perfect partners. One of the most amazing things about this relationship is that he was close with Wyatt and Owen long before anything happened between them, they were good, solid friends and part of the Heathens/Rainbow House family.
When Liam and Owen got together, it was the culmination of an attraction that had been building for a while and I thought the way Wyatt was brought into the fold happened so naturally and you could just see how he belonged and just plain fit. Liam knew that he wanted what his brother, Royal and Zade and Nash have.
I thought Liam’s introspection before being intimate with his men was done sensitively and you can tell the author has researched this extensively. I’ve loved watching Liam grow from being a scared teenager into this handsome and confident man. My heart broke for Wyatt and his past and that he found his salvation in Liam and Wyatt. It’s credit to the author how they manage to blend the heart breaking and terrible pasts of her characters and give them a sense of belonging in the world, ultimately finding acceptance and brotherhood and so much love.
I honestly couldn’t have dreamt of a better coming together for these three deserving men, the story was everything I’d hoped for and a hell of a lot more.

Liam has been in love with Owen for how many books? Like, all of them. Pretty sure I’ve never been happier for a characters HEA. Like… ever.
His journey from when he showed up on Royals doorstep kicked out for telling his father he was trans, to the present, is amazing. He went from the darker pits of depression from circumstances where he had no support or acceptance, to being surrounded by his found fam & having unwavering support & unconditional love & acceptance, helping him get what he needs (don’t want to give to much away). Owen, Wyatt, & Liam are all carrying their own internal demons, obvs, but seeing Liam thrive and find his place in adulthood, knowing what he faced as a teen, had me giddy.
Also, glimpses of Zade/Royal shenanigans & Nash being caught in the middle will never get old. They’re the best.
