The story of the life of Paul, made unfamiliar and new to those versed in it and simply compelling to those learning it for the first time. Picking up from where his highly praised (and receiving national press attention) graphic novel Marked left off, Blinded follows the apostle Paul from persecutor of the early church, to believer and missionary, to his death in Rome.
Theologically sound and with startling imagery, Blinded is a potent and accessible story powerfully told.
In this narrative, Paul is dark and surreal comic book character, beset by his own struggles for and against power, and ultimately caught up in the tide of something much larger than him. Set in a dystopian future, the story loosely follows Paul's life.
If I had read this at 16, I'd have been interested in reading more about the life of Paul. As is, it's totally inaccurate in spirit and in truth, but it was fun to read and revealed more about the author's perception of Paul and Christianity than about Paul himself.
The author Steve Ross successfully does it again bringing the bible into modern context. This time the graphic novel is about Paul the apostle and his travels. Now with any interpretation some might find this offensive but Paul's basic teachings are still at the core of this book.
