Provides discussions by victims and professional counselors on teenage dating violence, and also lists a variety of successful programs that have been established around the country to cope with violent relationships
I first read the first edition of this book and then reread it when the second edition came out. This book is an anthology mixing personal essays by women who survived teen dating violence with theoretical/analytical essays by psychologists and others on issues around teen dating violence and ways to help prevent it/stop it and so on. I was a victim of teen dating violence at a time when it was not much discussed, and this book was the first thing I read that really made me feel like my past experiences hadn't been mine alone and helped me contextualize my experiences into a broader whole of my culture and my life. My only tiny quibble is that it is written in a style of specifically addressing female victims of male violence, when teens can also experience violence from female abusers.
I would highly recommend this book to people who work with teens professionally and to people who want to understand more about teen dating violence.
