This collection of short stories tends toward the experimental, especially the first story, which strayed far from straight forward fiction. I might have given up on the book but for the obvious skill of the writer with description. This is the type of collection I would say a poet is responsible for, as the plot of each piece is less important than the words. And sometimes I agree, those words are sweet in and of themselves. Ultimately, I prefer a greater attention to story so I found myself just turning pages. There is one story in here that reads like straight childhood memoir, and it is the only one told with a straight face.
