The "Open Doors Series" is several series of short stories by various Irish authors. There is six books per series and there are currently five series.
This is my third read of the ODS but by a different author this time. It was about a tight-fisted guy who does not treat his wife very well, cheats on her and is generally not a nice person. I felt for his daughter as she was neglected by both her parents. a twat of a father and a mother who wants to be young at heart and go out chasing men.
I was hoping for a happy ending, but it was all gloomy. The pace was sluggish, and this prevented me from feeling absorbed so only a 2-star read for me.
A quick, easy read. For the most part, I liked Meany and enjoyed the story up until the end. I felt Julie was selfish and if she truly loved Meany she would have tried to compromise with him about spending money. I was really confused with the ending. I don't know if it's because I'm American and this was Irish, and maybe something was lost in translation? I just didn't get it.
Part of the Open Door Series - a program of original works by beloved authors, originally designed in Ireland to promote adult literacy.
Anne was a Dublin lady who donated this book as a resource to encourage adult literacy. The story is quite light and readable, a short read as all in this series were. Anne wrote a few other fiction books as well.
