THOUGHTS
The subtitle couldn’t be more fitting for this story, not all that glitters is gold. I love this story and the message it portrayed. Watching Nala transform and become someone other than herself was exciting and sad to see. Nala lived a normal ordinary life until the night she met Zaire. Zaire was definitely mysterious and seems to have it all, the car, money, and a condo. The more Nala got to know Zaire; she was slowly drawn into his world not realizing what’s going on outside her bubble with him. As crazy as this sound, I loved their love, but there was too much going on too fast as well as the unspeakable thing Zaire did. I would have liked it to end differently, however, I understood why it ended the way it did. I also enjoyed Nala’s poetry throughout the book.
The other main characters were jealously, envy, lies, boasting and money. It was definitely the ingredients that stir the pot in this story. There was also Rowland, the stalker ex, Demetria, the best friend, and Zaire’s possess Baldy and DJ.
As much as I loved this story, I think the conclusion could have come better than that. Although it ended the way it did with a lesson learn, the author should have stated who Zaires’s eyes and ears were who kept twisting stories about Nala. Of course, I know it was Tamalaa, rat. Also, the forgiveness happens a little too quickly. Although the story was written in 2005, I think it needs a sequel. Either way, it was an enjoyable read.
