From Hugo and Dragon Award finalist David VanDyke, and millions-selling science-fiction legend and Dragon finalist B.V. Larson, comes book four in the epic military space opera adventure saga! The Republic, the Opters and a strange Crystalline race of unknown origin all meet in a series of titanic battles. Commodore Straker summons thousands of ships, but he soon learns he’s technologically out-classed by the enemy. With traditional victory impossible, the race is on for each side to destroy the key worlds of the other. Billions die, entire planets are destroyed. Even while the war rages, dark suspicions grow. There are traitors in the midst of the chaos. Straker realizes the worst enemy is the one you believed to be your ally… HIVE WAR is a thrilling tale of warfare and adventure among the stars. This is the fourth book in the Galactic Liberation series. Look for book #1, STARSHIP LIBERATOR if you’re new to this expanding universe.
David VanDyke is a former Army Airborne soldier and later, an Air Force officer. He lives in the Tucson area with his wife and three dogs. Look him up at davidvandykeauthor.com
I don’t know how he did it because he’d been outdoing himself over and over again. But this one raises several notches up that I’ve added made so many highlights like never before, though not necessarily agree with some of them. The quality in his researches and careful crafting of the plots shows that he’d put up some real time in this story.
Never before in his books so many good guys perish. Especially in the early part of the game, a real shell shock. But that adds a lot of dynamics in the story especially when the new enemy outclass the coalition in each and every way.
Yet again Larson proves that people management is his strongest department, always earn trusts and loyalty through actions, not mere words and you gain strong alliances and super sidekicks to have your back and sides covered. In contrast, the villains always lose because they are selfish and don’t get the much needed support when they are most needed.
Despite some flaws (Vic was way to easy to put down, Murdock and Zaxby were so prepared it all seemed so magical), which is becoming Larson’s MO to quickly finish off the endings, this is a damn hard to put down book. Yes more deprivation of sleep but this this totally worth it. Will I recommend this book? You bet!
In a series the main character and the supporting characters around him or her make or break the desire to keep on reading or not. naturally the storyline is crucial but if you don't like the characters if you don't empathize with them if they don't live as you read it is not very satisfying. With Strayker and the rest of this cast Larson's done just that. Another great read looking for the next one and really upset I can't download it right now!
The Invasion of humanity is beginning, the Opters with their new allied force of the Crystals. But it is not going as planned for Straker as he leads the first assault. In this war, nothing goes as planned for his forces the Crystals have stronger weapons they seen before. It is another action packed adventure, and I am sure that fans of the series will love it.
This book had both mech and space battles galore. Definitely better than the last book in this series. Plenty of fun twists and novel science ideas that at times suspend some physical laws of nature , but heck that’s what makes it a fun read.
Nothing sophisticated, just an interesting, imaginative space adventure with intriguing characters. Escapist Sci-fi that doesn't strain the brain but also doesn't insult your intelligence. I'm reading all of his series of books.
I have really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend others to do the same. Just keep the hits coming,I can hardly wait until the next great adventure.
