I had an inkling I’d enjoy this book when there were homages to various Sci Fi shows in the first few pages (including Stargate and BSG, my two favorites!) and I was right: this was an enjoyable read.

The setting is quite easy to picture (although the premise left me both amused and uncomfortable with how much it resembled a certain Stargate SG-1 episode) and the situation was easy to grasp. It was a fairly straightforward plot that moved at a steady pace and had no real unexpected twists.

The characters were enjoyable but one thing that distracted me was the repeated notion that Caitlin had committed some horrendous action against Nick eight years ago and I was a little disappointed in what that turned out to be. To me, it didn’t seem to warrant the reactions from the two of them and I was expecting something far worse.

Michael is just a marshmallow and I really enjoyed seeing the world through his eyes and reading about him experiencing new things. I hope that continues throughout the rest of the series.

The ending was good, plausible, and left a clear path for at least two of the characters’ storyline in the next book which I most definitely plan to read.

All in all a good, easy, and solid Sci Fi I’d recommend for the readers who enjoy Sci Fi TV shows and/or no in-depth paragraph-length science explanations on every page.

I laughed. I cried. I gasped. I melted. This book had it all.

What a wonderful opener to The Phoenix Rebellion series! Gail Delaney paints the most beautiful scenes of a futuristic world not quite keen on how things are. Secrets are starting to come out, and not everyone is happy with what is discovered.

She elegantly weaves together beautifully intricate story lines that have you cheering for and groaning at choices being made.

Her characters are relatable, lovable, and well-developed. Watching CJ and Nick’s relationship was a roller coaster! Though, Lily and Jace are also in serious contention for being my favorite.

Each chapter had me spellbound and I couldn’t put down the book.

I NEED to know what happens next! Will families be reunited? Will missions be successful? Will maddening questions finally be answered? Will the risks be worth it?

Absolutely Loved

This book was amazing!!! I could not put it down. You have two lovers reunited. A thought to be dead loved one rescued. Aliens who are just horrible. I loved that they are described to have no junk. It reminded me of the strain by guillermo del toro because the vamps have no junk lol. I loved how Nick and Michael started forming a bond. The amount of love Nick has for his son is just relatable. Caitlin and Nick's romance being renewed was amazing. They both still loved each other and were apprehensive about getting back together. I love getting multi povs in a book. Every character just about has their own pov you get to see. I loved that Beverly is deaf and her broach talks for her. She is also is an empath. The diversity in this book is great. I cant wait to read whats next!!!!

I started this book with trepidation because it was outside of my typical genre but I will tell you, this book grabs hold of you and reels you in!
So beautifully written, the characters are wonderful and you absolutely fall in love with them (minus one - you'll see).
I love the way Gail writes, the ebb and flow of her words just drew me in and kept my interest from the start.
SPOILER: this book ends on the biggest cliff hanger and has me scrambling to start the second book.
