In this first book, kids will learn all about trees and the vital role that they play for people and animals. This introduction to the topic covers the different kinds of trees, how they grow and change through the seasons, and how they provide a home to a variety of animals. Readers will get to know the trees in their neighbourhoods with the help of a tree-watching Q & A, an illustrated page to help identify leaves, and a full-spread map of different tree species across North America. End matter includes information about endangered trees, a "Grow a Tree" activity, a glossary, and an index.

Sure, this is a little dated (1999) in terms of illustration style (think the clothing and hairstyles of the children) but the trees and leaves are presented in a realistic fashion that is timeless and most of the information remains relevant. The books was updated in 2019 as Nature All Around: Trees -- the new art is lovely and the newer edition contains more information. I wouldn't necessarily pass up the 1999 edition but I would also look for the 2019 if you can.

I read this to stretch my French vocabulary. It is about trees of Canada and the US. The abundance of illustrations helped me understand the context of some scientific terms, although it is a kid’s book.
