When Simon immerses himself in the game world of Apex as Arheis the Guardian, he finds a living, breathing ecosystem that feels more real than anything he’s ever experienced before. The creatures that inhabit Apex are cunning, ferocious, and a massive challenge for even the most experienced hunter.
In order to rank up in the Hunters’ Guild and participate in the most prestigious hunts, Simon will have to slay increasingly more threatening creatures and use what he gathers to craft powerful armor and weapons.
But a fearsome beast stalks the jungle, untouchable even by the Guild. To have any hope of stopping her, Simon won’t just have to level up and hone his skills--he’ll have to put his trust in his fellow hunters.
Solid book. I have never played monster Hunter and didn't know until the end of the book that it was based on those games. That being said it was a fun read. I'd like to have the whole Mana situation explained more since at the end the mc just gained a Mana dependent ability without a real explanation but maybe he doesn't really understand it either. I think the author did a great job getting my attention, that being said, to me it was like I was reading a manga that was missing the pictures. What I mean by that was the author did a great job in coming up with a unique take on the Litrpg genre, I just feel like it could use some more detail and more character building than we have seen so far.
I was waffling between 3 and 4 starts on this book. While the story is very well written and executed, I tend to grade based on entertainment and I while I appreciate the "mechanics" it is not something that really gets utilized much since it's still early in the story and the access to augments is sparse. This is turn feels like a story with gamelit elements attached to it.
I will most likely be picking up the next one and making a decision on continuing the series or not after then.
A well-written GameLit story. Good characters, and a very interesting “hunting” aspect that hasn’t been used before. The world is interesting too, in that magic is present, but not prominent. The characters and story presented here are fairly straightforward (but not simple), which helps us move through book #1 better. Everything is well staged to let book #2 and beyond take us anywhere. Nice. Recommended.
5 stars means this is a good that I really liked and will be reading over and over again in the years to come.
Overall I really liked story. This is a monster hunter litrpg flavored book. The characters are interesting and the story builds over time. The MC isn't all powerful right from the beginning and you have a good sense of progress over time with the story.
I am looking forward to reading more not only of the Apex Chronicles but also more from the author in general.
I genuinely enjoyed this book. Simon is an interesting main character and I enjoyed watching him come into his own. The characters felt multifaceted and their storylines felt honest. I look forward to the next book.
A strange love story that happen to in a RPG it's really how everything worked out in this with lots of action and other activities #2 will break or make this Story
