Uniworld Online #2

The Song Mistress

Rate this book
After the events which caused Cadence to lose consciousness within Uniworld Online, she was now being monitored by the company in charge of the game – Unitech. This surveillance meant that the fledgling Song Maiden had to watch what abilities she used within the game, otherwise she might attract the wrong kind of attention and be accused of cheating or hacking.

Despite these setbacks, Cadence is joined once again by her friends Brendare and Wengla, as well as Mera – the grateful young woman they had narrowly saved from being sacrificed by Corrupted Druids. With new gear and a renewed drive to find and punish the player-killers who had killed Cadence, they journeyed onward, getting stronger and picking up allies along the way.

But danger is just around the corner as they learn that Brendare and the “mysterious Bard” are being hunted by guilds wanting to know the secret behind their winning dungeon run. And, when Cadence and her party are forced to quickly make their way toward Lightforge – the Human capital city – they are presented with a whole new challenge: crafting.

With everything going on within the game, Cadence is ecstatic because her body in the real world is also healing faster than her doctor had expected. In addition to her limbs recovering from the abuse they suffered at the hands of her attackers, something else is starting to heal which will change her life forever…

Why, yes... I often randomly burst out in song. This bard series makes me want the power that Cadence has heheh.

It’ll be interesting to see to see how others react now that she's found a way to communicate in the real world. And if the caricature characters calm down.

I don't have problems with the RPG story.
I have problems with the character pairings or relationships. I say "Inconsistent relationships, kind of dump it in the story"

Disappointing sequel.

Great LitRPG fantasy fun! This book was so much fun to read. The saga continues with Cadence and her friends in Uniworld. Now being monitored by the corporation, she is hesitant about showing off her specialized abilities. However, the AI in the game apparently has a lot more control than the corporation expected. The ways that Cadence solves her problems are quite amazing (along with the amount of trouble she gets into)! The ongoing intertwined story between the real world and the game world adds more to the entertainment. If you like fantasy and LitRPG, give this series a chance. I'll continue to read the series and keep Jonathan Brooks on my to-read list. Audible version with excellent narration by Anneliese Rennie.

Annoying read.

The reason I find books like this so frustrating is that they COULD be so good, but there are common problems that repeatedly show themselves.

1) Over powered main character
2) Stupid main character even after trying to represent them as intelligent.
3) Relying on coincidences instead of thinking of a decent storyline. This book is worse than most for this.
4) Plot holes, plot holes everywhere!
5) inconsistencies, this overlaps some of the other points but is also a problem in itself.
6) Poor editing, this book isn't actually too bad for this.

All of these points can be summed up to lack of planning and laziness. I've read so much recently that has several of these flaws that I'm going to start copying and pasting this.

In this book it covers 1 to 5 in heaps with the bigest flaw is probably being the evil bad guy and other coincidences. Such a stupid story line. Also not sure what is more annoying, the main character being so over powered or the fact she doesn't come close to using abilities to the fullest.

DNF at 80% I just couldn't pretend I cared anymore
I found book 1 to be so charming 3 years ago, But I've just reread it prior to starting this and it is way dumber than I remember.
The very sad thing is that book two gets dumber still.
There is a term in Romance books: Too Stupid To Live. The main character here fits that description. Spoiler alert She freezes up and then forgets the one job she has -over and over and over. Oh sure she comes up with some wacky hare brained scheme to get them all out of this mess, but when the book is telling you here internal monologue she is never once shown to have thoughts of that complexity.
This is my number one gripe with this book. the intellectual and emotional development of the MC is at an elementary school level, maybe junior high. and yet she is supposed to be a college freshman.
As this book got dumber and I cared less and less how it ended I made myself a deal. I'd give it 3 more strikes. If the MC girl forgot her friends were in danger because she saw a spider or something idiotic like that, it's a strike.
Well, this book did disappoint. moving on with my life.

Okay, I get it. Cadence is an absolutely amazing person. Can she have some real difficulties that she has to actually struggle to overcome?

Cadence was given a special skill that neutralized all damage around her because she was such a great person. I had to fight really hard to not roll my eyes. That skill was game breaking. She was able to capture a corrupted Death Faerie Lord who was so powerful he could have slaughtered her easily. But no, she was able to capture him, and the corruption was cleansed from him. Then he saved her and her team soon after. And apparently he is another love interest for the main character? I don’t know. I feel like the author should have just left out the attempts at romance.

This book had a lot of summarizing. Telling and not showing. It was annoying.

A fun addition

Still with the ridiculously overpowered MC but also still entertaining. Felt like a very fast read, maybe a little short for my tastes, another sign of a good story. I am looking forward to the next book.

Another cracker!

Accepting that reviews are totally personal, I loved this book. Okay, the MC is fast becoming OP, if not already, but the premis is new enough for it to be more than acceptable. I’m still rooting for Cadence and looking forward to her continued adventures.

The second book in this series.
Not as good as the first one. way to much overpower thrown into the MCs direction and the social interaction in the group does not feel as "natural" as in the first one.
It was still fun and i read the last book too of course.

The story unfolds with the Dwarf Bard gaining more adventures and building more skills. There are some rather contrived situations, which is after all consistent with RPGs, so these must fall under 'Narrative Imperative' to progress the story. All in all a good read!

Not a bad second installment in the series. I liked it. Not quite as good as the first one, but that's to be expected in general. I'll be keeping an eye on this series, as I really like how this one is shaping up.
