Before Arthur, before Alfred, England was born in blood and fire...

This is the complete saga of Hengest and Horsa; brothers, exiles and adventurers who spearheaded the Anglo-Saxon migrations to Britain and lay the foundations of the land that would one day be called England.

Exiled from their homeland, the cool and calculating Hengest and the intrepid but headstrong Horsa brave the stormy northern seas in search of a new home, defying warlords, pirates and the very gods themselves. Their adventures lead them to post-Roman Britain where they find unexpected allies and enemies in equal measure. Promised land in exchange for fighting the dreaded Picts beyond the Wall, Hengest and Horsa enter a bargain bound by blood and are sucked into a maelstrom of lust, betrayal and political powerplay that will have earth-shattering consequences for the struggling island of Britain.

Journey back to the 5th century and experience the untold story of England's beginning!

- "A great tale of swashbuckling in pagan times when monsters of Grendel’s ilk howled at night outside the mead halls." - Scott Skipper

I loved this book (Book 2) and look forward to the last book in the trilogy. I have been interested in this time period between the Roman departure and King Alfred. The Jutish brothers continue their brutal existence and travel to Britain. They settle on the southeast coast and battle to establish themselves. Hengest forms an alliance with the head of the Council of Britain, Lord Vertigernus, in hopes of securing a permanent home. Hengst and Horsa follow Ambrosius Aurelianus beyond Hadran's Wall . Aurelianus is the military genius thought by some to be the inspiration for King Arthur of Camelot. The narration was excellent as well.
