Chubby freshman and hot football player fall for each other in an online video game, meet IRL, and kiss.

This story is very short and utterly uninspired with an abrupt, unsatisfying ending.

What made these guys tick? If the hot footballer was demi, why was he having random hookups? (The author may have gotten demi mixed up with pan.)

I liked the IDEA of the story, but not the surface execution.

As this story shows, gaming and meeting people online has its advantages. This is especially true for Wyatt who is a student and on the shy side in real life. He is on the chubby side and saying that he is lacking in self-confidence is putting it mildly. He has two crushes – one on Austin, a fellow student, and one on an online character who is part of a gam he has been playing for a while. Not knowing who wither of them really are is a problem, not that Wyatt is willing to do anything about it until he has no other choice.

While both characters are on the stereotypical side (nerd-meets-jock) and the plot is utterly predictable, Wyatt and Austin tell the story in alternating point of view and some of what they think and say is amusing. Like when Austin self-deprecatingly comments “The mega-jock plays an elven warrior in a fantasy video game and is secretly into somebody he’s never met. It’s like the script of a romcom, and the guys on the team would give me so much shit for it.” I am sure they would – and I’d support them all the way.

However, the picture the author paints here, of two young men not quite knowing how to deal with real life and preferring the online version to reality, is also very true. Their thoughts and feelings are realistic, and if you want to find out more about “new adults who like to play fantasy games online”, this story paints an accurate, if somewhat simplified, picture for you. The fact that I have read more than one story like this before is not the author’s fault, but I do wish there’d been some sort of original twist in what happens.

Overall this is a fun story if you’re not expecting the great American romance, and if you’re looking for something with a touch of angst and very little drama, this short, free read may just be your thing.

Loved this short story! The two characters form a relationship first online, but not in a weird way or any creepy catfish sort of thing. They are both on the online community exclusive to their college, so they know that they are each students. When they game together they end up being in the same role for their team and then start to talk more to each other and create a connection. The part of the story we see is taking the next step, which they are both nervous about for different reasons (one for the fear of making that move, the other for the fear of his won looks and personality). It works through different sexualities, and the idea of whether or not there are actually 'leagues' when there is attraction on both sides. It was very sweet and extremely enjoyable as they worked past their fears and made an IRL connection.

Loved this brief short MM romance. I coukd definitely read more about thu couple. It was so sweet and I loved the "meet cute." I was a bit put off at the beginning as I know Nothing about video games and the story started out with all the gamer language; that being said, the story was awsome.

I hope there is more of this couple in the new series the author is writing! The story was a great inintroduction to something new and exciting. If you get the chance to read this do it!

This is a gamer guys short story. It was a nice little introduction to the gaming world and how you can make a virtual connection with someone. I really wanted a few more chapters to give me a HEA, this ending felt very HFN which isn't as satisfying for me.

It says that this book ties into the gamer guys book 1, so we will see if we get more closure on this couple.

I wish this was a wee bit longer. Idk.. There was just something lacking in the end.. And if Austin was demi, why did he have Grindr and hooked up with people he didn’t have feelings for? 😒 That part really niggled at me, like it was just thrown out there to be ~*different*~ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It was okay. A sweet story, and I liked the gaming aspects, but frankly I just didn't buy the connection, and Austin came across as WAY too perfect in a way that didn't ring believable.
