It's true that this book is ideal for freelancers-beginners. I worked for quite a long time and successfully in different companies, with different approaches to management, communications and business processes. One day, I said to myself: "Enough!" and decided to start a new life.
I was very self-assured, because I have experience as a manager in different industries and roles. I thought that it was very easy for me to managed my time, to find clients, to conduct successful communication. How naive I was! I came across a lot of problems and that the best solution and gift of destiny was this book.
Do you know how people like to write success stories? Nobody likes to write history of mistakes, although the latter is much more useful. I read "The 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Freelancing" in few days and still use it as a textbook. This book helped me to escape big mistakes. Moreover, it helped me not to be disappointed in my choice and practically saved me from depression. Now "The 10 Things" by David R. Rodriguez is on my desk, like textbook, desk book and talisman).

"The 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Freelancing" is a practical and insightful guide for anyone considering embarking on a freelance career. The author shares valuable lessons and advice based on their own experiences, providing readers with a realistic perspective on the challenges and rewards of freelancing.

One of the book's strengths is its ability to cover a wide range of topics, from managing finances and setting rates to building a strong client base and maintaining work-life balance. The author's candid and relatable writing style makes it easy for readers to connect with the content, while the actionable tips provided throughout the book can be readily applied to real-life situations.

Despite its many strong points, the book occasionally falls short in providing in-depth information on specific aspects of freelancing, such as marketing strategies or dealing with difficult clients. Additionally, some readers may find that the book's scope is somewhat limited, focusing primarily on the author's personal experiences rather than drawing on a wider range of perspectives.

Overall, "The 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Freelancing" earns a solid 4-star rating for its practical advice and relatable insights. While it could benefit from a more comprehensive exploration of certain topics, the book offers an invaluable resource for anyone considering a freelance career or looking to improve their current freelance business.

This book is an eye-opening and candid guide that offers real-world insights into the freelancing life—insights that are often left out of traditional advice. For anyone considering jumping into freelancing or struggling with the early stages, this book provides invaluable lessons that go beyond the surface-level tips you find elsewhere.

Rodriguez’s writing is straightforward and relatable, making it feel like you’re getting advice from a seasoned mentor. He dives into the practical challenges freelancers face, from managing inconsistent income to finding clients, and even the mental hurdles of staying motivated and disciplined when working on your own. His ability to anticipate common pitfalls and offer actionable advice makes this a standout read.

What I particularly appreciated is how Rodriguez emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries, knowing your worth, and developing a solid business mindset early on. He doesn’t sugarcoat the realities of freelancing, which gives the book an authentic and trustworthy tone.

While the book covers a lot of ground, it sometimes feels like it could go deeper into strategies for finding clients or negotiating rates. However, for someone starting out, the advice is exactly what you need to avoid the common mistakes and prepare for the less glamorous side of freelancing.

A very short book with 110 pages. This book informs the readers of opportunities and challenges that a beginner freelancer will face when starting. I find the book helpful and articulate. Essentially, freelancing is very similar to running and maintaining a small business. Nowadays it's equivalent to solopreneurship. I'd recommend this book for those who want to start freelancing. Getting informed will save you lots of time and money down the road.
