The road to self-discovery leads Maverick Kensington deep into the heart of New Orleans. The colorful characters, beautiful scenery and a hot mess of a woman he finds along the way offer him the perfect place to reinvent himself. The French Quarter and Blue Bayou are exactly the change of pace he’s looking for, helping him escape the soul-sucking work he does for his father’s company. Carys Matthews is young and inexperienced. Having her family’s hotel dropped in her lap after her mother’s untimely death, she’s struggling to keep her head above water and keep the hotel’s doors open. She doesn’t have time for relationships, but Maverick Kensington is worth an exception. Besides, his stay is temporary and a fling never hurt anyone, right? His passion and business know-how is exactly what she needs. Her carefree spirit is what he wants. Their whirlwind relationship is one for the books until truths are untold and assumptions are made. Everything comes to a screeching halt just when they were getting to the good part. There’s always been a saying around the eventually, everyone comes back to the Blue Bayou. Will Maverick be the exception?
Jiffy Kate is the joint pen name for Jiff Simpson and Jenny Kate Altman. They're co-writing besties who share a brain and a love of cute boys, good coffee, and fun times.
The idea of the story is promising. A rich hero, on so much needed vacation, meets with damsel in distress. Plus with the background of New Orleans, it seems a sure thing. The beginning of the story is really promising. The hero desperate for his father approval. His father treating him like any other employee. Then when the story progress, it becomes downhill.
The conversations on this book is looks like being cut and paste from other books so making this book lack of originality. The character development also feel like being cut and paste. The layers, the plot and the climax is weak. The insta lust is not convincing.
Who doesn't love a book set in New Orleans with all its colorful ambience? New to me authors offering a "hot mess express" and one that took me on a wonderful ride through a story full of new and sizzling romance and a cast of characters guaranteed to steal you heart.
Carys and Maverick had chemistry in spades. And I loved the strength and character each upheld. The "family" ties and the old Blue Bayou hotel were such a nice addition to this story as well.
My only complaint is that the ending left some loose ends that I really felt needed some extra attention. It makes me wonder if there isn't more to this story that we'll see someday soon. If not, then pooh on these authors for not adding a more generous Epilogue that answered the questions you're sure to ask at the end. There is a happy ending -- no problem there. Just unfinished business that really needs to be finished.
My first Jiffy Kate experience and it was lovely! Loved the New Orleans location and attention to history. Great writing and enjoyable main (and secondary--Jules was hilarious!) characters.
WOW! This book! I am going to cut to the chase and just tell you, YOU MUST READ IT! This story not only takes place in New Orleans, but the characters are just perfect!
Maverick Kensington comes to New Orleans to escape his everyday life. He needs to get away from his job, his father and figure himself out. When he stumbles upon a quaint, historic hotel he has no idea that it will completely change his life. Maverick meets the hotel owner, Carys Matthews and is totally thrown for a loop.
Maverick is everything you want in a male lead character and I was smitten in the first chapter! Carys carries traits that all of us have and you become bonded with her immediately. Their lives may be different but they share many similarities on what they want out of life.
I have to say, there is one scene in this book that had me grabbing a cold glass of water and taking a breather. Good grief it was so hot! You will know when you get to it. Trust me!
The side characters are perfectly placed and I fell in love with Jules. Seriously, I want to hang out with this guy. Get into trouble and make memories. Jules could definitely deliver all of that! He seriously had me in stitches I was laughing so hard!! Just wait, you will agree with me on this and will want to hang with him too.
I absolutely loved this story. I want to visit New Orleans, find a quaint hotel and just experience. Jiffy Kate had a way of carrying you there with them throughout the entire book. I could taste the macarons, I could smell the food, I could hear the music.
Blue Bayou is a wonderful HEA with a great story line and amazing characters. I have a new book boyfriend handyman and his name is Maverick Kensington!
Carys Matthews & Maverick Kensington are a match made in heaven!
Mav needs a break from his overbearing, heartless father so he escapes to New Orleans. Forgoing his normal routine of 5 Star ritz, he stumbles into the lobby and the owner of the Blue Bayou. A quaint little hotel on the brink of closure, being run by Carys now, since her mother and grandfather are no longer living.
Obviously, the sparks start flying. The UST (unresolved sexual tension) is palpable between the inevitable lovers.
Jiffy Kate were on point with every detail of my hometown, you can tell the did their research, wanting to be authentic.
The development of the story and the secondary characters had me so enthralled I couldn’t put it down! I was sucked in from page one!
First off let me get this off my chest. I’ve been singing this song since I picked up this book.
Ok now let me get this off my chest as well. Tom Cruise isn’t my favorite, but this is an iconic movie.
Maverick Kensington wandered into Blue Bayou when he decided he needed a break from his life with his overbearing greedy father. He was drawn to the building and once he was inside he was drawn to the charismatic owner. He knew she was flustered but he had this genuine need to help her. Fixing things is what Maverick does and he sets out to fix Blue Bayou for Carys. He didn’t intend on feelings getting involved and he didn’t intend on falling in love with the city of New Orleans.
Carys Matthews is the owner of Blue Bayou. It’s a family owned hotel in the heart of the French Quarter. She grew up in these walls and has made this group her family. She is now running the business even though she has no idea how. She’s struggling to make the payments and keep the patrons coming to her hotel. When a handsome stranger blows into her lobby she feels the shift. She slowly starts to let Maverick in and he inspires her to make the hotel better and find that courage inside she knows is there.
Granted I seen the drama coming but it didn’t make me want to hurry and breeze through the story of Maverick and Carys. In fact, it made me want to savor it even more. I loved these two together they just made sense. They slow burned and when they came together woo sparks baby sparks.
I am from New Orleans myself and Jiffy Kate did an amazing job describing such a vibrant city. When that oppressive heat smacked Maverick and Shep in the face I was like ahhh yep it’s brutal but we oddly love it. I would let Jules take me to see drag queens and sing Elton John songs any day of the week. I loved George and Mary as well and the rest of the characters except his dad. That man can go kick rocks. This was a fun story with a sweet epilogue to tie it all up. I can’t wait to read more from Jiffy Kate!!
After her mother passed away, Carys Matthews inherits her family’s hotel in New Orleans, the Blue Bayou. Knowing nothing about finances & running a hotel, Carys wings it, with the help of the hotel’s two best employees, George & Mary, who have worked there from the start. But now a couple years later, Carys’ lack of business knowledge is starting to catch up to her, especially now that the hotel needs updating and is losing business due to lack of marketing. Then in walks Maverick Kensington, who seems to be the answer to all Carys’ prayers.
Maverick works for his father who owns a cutthroat real estate business. He isn’t sure if he wants to follow in his father’s footsteps so he picks up his life one day and travels to New Orleans for an extended vacation. And that’s how he meets the owner of the Blue Bayou hotel, Carys. Maverick is able to help Carys with problems around the hotel, despite her pushing off his help at first, and he gets free room & board along with feeling productive.
Somewhere along the way, Carys and Maverick start developing real feelings for each other. But Maverick’s time in the French Quarter is coming to a close and with Maverick leading a completely different life, neither of them are sure they can make it work past a short vacation fling.
Blue Bayou by Jiffy Kate is book 1 in the French Quarter Collection. This was a cute romance that’ll be sure to put a smile on your face, especially with the quirky & fun side characters. There was nothing especially memorable that’ll leave a lasting impression on me, but sometimes I like reading romances that are just quick & a good time. I would’ve liked this to dive a little deeper emotions wise, but I still enjoyed my time reading it. 3/5 stars.
Jiffy Kate had another winner on their hands. Blue Bayou was nothing but perfection. Seriously soon as I started I couldn't put it down. When I was finished I almost wanted to start it over again cause it was just that good. Its like if Hallmark movie was book it would be the Blue Bayou. So many feels while reading this book. Carys Matthews is doing her best with what she has even though her best really isn't that great. After her mom untimely death she is left to take over the family business The Blue Bayou Hotel. With so much on her plate a boyfriend is the last thing on her mind.
Enters tall, dark, and handsome Maverick Kensington. Running away from his life in Dallas; Maverick is looking for a way to escape living in his father's shadow but when he walks into the Blue Bayou he gets so much more then what he could dream up in the form of Carys Matthews. This two are just perfect for each other. The sexual tension between these two is off the charts. When they finally get together.....time for a panty change. An amazing love story full of excepted lessons of love, life and being happy.
Jiffy Kate do an amazing job with all their attention to the details for the city in this book that is New Orleans. I could almost feel the humidity coming off the screen as I read about how hot and humid it was. It is like they are painting a picture with their words. I am hoping their is another book to this series cause I would love to read more about these characters. Be sure to get you hands on a copy of this book when I comes out on August 30. You will not be disappointed.
Oh so good! I loved this book the banter of Carys Mathews and Maverick Kensington is delightful, charismatic, smooth, care free. I received this book as an ARC for my review. The characters feel all realistic and relatable. This book wants me to go back to the Nola and to feel the family closeness and carefree attitude. My mouth is drooling for the beignets. I digress, I love the dialog banter between Carys and Maverick. The chemistry is off the charts between this two, I had to fan myself or just drink a lot of cold water. I can't recommend this book high enough.
This is a charming visit to New Orleans all wrapped up in a wonderful story of two souls in need of each other
Maverick is dying inside working in his father’s cut throat world and runs off to New Orleans and smack dab into Carys who is just trying to keep her family dream alive
Full of awesome UST (that even explains UST) and plenty of colorful character that bring you all the way to the Quarter from your favorite reading nook
The book feels like a light, quick read but the story is deep and powerful - I loved it and I hope the girls revisit this world again!!
First of all... I finished this book a day ago and I’m still singing the song today! A plus for this is because the ‘setting place’ is on my bucket list to visit.
If anyone wants a sweet romance story, then this is for you. You know in every romance there’s bound to be something happening that makes you question your feelings. It wasn’t over the top drama but believable. Get to know Maverick the handyman sweetheart. And witness the progress of Carys’ character.
I’m a reader who loves the supporting acts of a romance novel. I enjoyed this because it was definitely more than romance. There was culture and family love, the feel of this vibrant city... it’s surroundings. Written beautifully in a way that makes you feel like you’re there yourself. I definitely felt like I was in the French Quarter while reading this.
Thank you Jiffy Kate for the arc. I enjoyed this sweet story, as you can see from the glimpse of the video I sent you guys 😊. Can’t wait for more ❤️
I have seriously enjoyed every Jiffy Kate book I have read, and Blue Bayou was no exception. I absolutely loved Carys' strength and determination, even in the midst of everything falling apart around her.
Carys and Maverick had that instant spark and attraction, and their chemistry was palpable throughout every page of this book. The authors wrote with such description I felt as though I were in New Orleans myself. Another very enjoyable read from Jiffy Kate!
JiffyKate weaves descriptive magic that puts the readers right in the middle of the settings in their stories. This particular ride delivered me directly to New Orleans. The colorful buildings, sounds of music in the air, scents (both good, and bad) were all written in a way which made me feel like I was visiting the area. I literally felt like a guest at the Blue Bayou. And yes- I will come back to visit again.
Right from the start this books captures your attention. I honestly accomplished NOTHING the day I read this because I didn’t want to put it down. You’ll instantly fall in love with Carys and Maverick and all the Chaos Of their story. It’s beautiful, realistic and makes you want to visit New Orleans! I love that you see the Landry family and I’m all about a Shep book now!
I could not put this book down! So well written - can easily picture the city, the Blue Bayou, and smelling the food.
I could picture myself in New Orleans which made me miss the city and all it has to offer...including beignets. Like every couple Maverick and Carys have their ups and downs, but they are perfect for one another. It’s hard not to see yourself in some of the situations Carys finds herself. Bth she and Maverick are relatable. Also love the cameos from the Landry’s.
Love this cover!!! Love the name of the book!!! Love the story!!! Love Jiffy Kate's writing!!!! And Love saying the title, it just makes me want to sing Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt...actually I really want to belt it out!!! lol
"I feel so bad I've got a word in mind, I'm so lonesome all the time Since I've left my baby behind on Blue Bayou. Saving nickels, saving dimes, Working 'till the sun don't shine Looking forward happy times on Blue Bayou
I'm going back someday, 'to Blue Bayou! Where we sleep all day and the coffee is.. Blue Bayou! Where the' if I could only see, That familiar sunrise, sleeping eyes, how happy I would be!"
Okay, I am done...lol When you open this book, Jiffy Kate will to take you on a wonderful ride through New Orleans and fall in love with everything about it!!!
Sighhhs. I felt like I was watching a movie while reading, the descriptions the Author's give are sooo freaking good that half the time I forgot I was reading..lol Now I definitely want to go to New Orleans and stay at Blue Bayou!!
This is where Carys Matthews has taken over running this cute little quaint hotel~Blue Bayou. The only thing is that the Hotel has lost it's mojo. It's not as hoppen and happenen as it use to be back in the day. Carys grew up with her family running the place but they have since passed away leaving her left behind to take over and truthfully she is overwhelmed with all the responsibilities, lack of money and she really needs to hire a marketing firm to help her out.
Welll then walks in Mr. Maverick Kensington. Carys doesn't know it yet, but Mav is about to be her knight in shining armor!!! Maverick is visiting New Orleans for a few days to get away from it all. Mav didn't want to be found and he loved going to New Orleans but everybody knew his dad and he was the main person he wanted to get away from, soo he went off the beaten path from his normal hotel until he happens upon Blue Bayou. And here is where all my love is comen from!!!!
Y'all, I have been seeing Blue Bayou all over social media and I could not wait to get my hot little hands on it!!! I gave Blue Bayou 5 "I fell head over heals in love with Mav and Carys" Stars!!!
Make sure you go one click today and find out just how well Mav ends up taking care of Carys!!! *wink..wink*
Completely adorable book about one of my favorite places, New Orleans! Jiffy Kate does an awesome job of drawing you in to the story, characters, the amazing life of New Orleans and Blue Bayou. I feel like I went for a visit! (Minus all the calories!)
Maverick Kensington needs a break, a break from his life - a life he didn't choose - but mostly he needs a break from his bully of a father. As a Kensington, it's a foregone conclusion that he'd go into the family business but Mav would rather do it his grandfather's way than his father's. The original Maverick was a builder of dreams, he helped people and that's one of the things Mav has always loved about him. His father is the opposite, he destroys dreams, buying up people's hard work and selling it to the highest bidder. (Think Edward Lewis before meeting Vivian in Pretty Woman). Escaping to New Orleans is just the thing to do to hide out and get his head on straight but even after arriving 500 miles from home, he's plagued by the Kensington name. Deciding to forego the normal glitz of the 5 star hotel where everyone knows his name, he happens upon the Blue Bayou. It's a charming, eclectic throwback boutique hotel and just like it's owner, they've got him hooked from the moment he walks in.
Carys Mathews' world is falling apart. Literally. The hotel she owns is falling apart, leaks and clogs and computers that double as very expensive paper weights. When her grandfather and mother were alive this was all theirs and Carys grew up loving life in the world they created at the Blue Bayou, a place where everyone wants to come again. When her grandfather passes, it was sad but she still had her mother to help get through but now she's gone too and Carys is trying desperately to hold it all together. With Murphy's Law always working against her, she's on her knees soaking wet when the most gorgeous man she's ever met walks into her hotel. Such is life, right?
This is an utterly adorable meet cute for our couple and sets the stage for the fun, and the heat, for the rest of the story. Maverick can't help but fall hopelessly for this hot mess of a female and Carys might've found the best guest ever! This story is completed with a truly awesome cast of characters (Jules is a riot!) and the author does a great job of creating a family you want to join and a world you want to visit. It's a tad predictable but it's a pattern that works for a reason! Loved Blue Bayou and it's definitely a place I want to visit again! Great read!

A place I definitely want to visit... and revisit!
Short review: I loved it. It’s awesome. Mav is swoony, and Carys is the best hot mess ever. I think I’d like to adopt Jules...And move into the Blue Bayou. Longer review: so, yeah... the thing I loved best about this book is the way it made me feel. I could feel the nostalgia and the history of happiness that was such an essential part of the BB, and that, more than anything else, made me want to root for it. The story is sweet and simple, but has a lot of emotions woven through. The way maverick and carys interact was a delight to read. The supporting characters added so much to the reading experience as well, from Mary and George and of course Jules, to Shep, and Shaw, whose presence is just a few lines long, but oh so intriguing. I also loved seeing my favs from the finding focus series :) The writing is great as usual, lots of funny bits and hot stuff, perfectly balanced. This book has such a lovely description of the area, it makes me want to go visit right away. The people, the sights, the vibe of the place are so enticing! And let’s not forget about food. More specifically, macarons. No way to read this and not crave some! The Blue Bayou is very different from their last release earlier this year, but just as engaging. I’m going to be waiting very impatiently for whatever they write next.
Blue Bayou by Jiffy Kate!! This is the first book I’ve read by this great duo and I have completely fallen in love! I’m a Louisiana girl so reading this story and having the feels of NOLA really drew me in. Not only did they nail the feels but the story line was fun and inviting!
Carys, that girl made my heart hurt. She’s so young with so much responsibility because of all the loss in her life. She’s inherited this sweet historic hotel in the heart of New Orleans called the Blue Bayou! With determination and longing to keep her family's legacy in tact she works hard to keep the hotel afloat.
Maverick, our lead man was everything you could ask for in a male character. He’s had enough of the world he’s living , working for his father is not what he wants for his life. So with a much needed vacation he takes off to NOLA for some R&R!
When Maverick finds himself at the Blue Bayou for the duration of his trip, he meets Carys! Their connection is undeniable and sparks fly but with all that she has on her plate and Maverick trying to figure out the next steps in his life will they be able to find happiness?
This is a sweet and fun MUST READ!! Congratulations ladies on a wonderful story!!
The dynamic duo that makes up Jiffy Kate has penned another great story in Blue Bayou. The story starts out with Maverick Kensington becoming fed up with his overbearing father, and taking off for time away, when he lands in New Orleans at the Blue Bayou. It's a small hotel, not his normal 5 star digs, and it's where he meets Carys Matthews, who throws his world in a tailspin. Carys is trying to keep the family business running, but she's in over her head. She doesn't have time for relationships, but fate drops Maverick in her life, and the connection won't be denied. This story was a slow burn of the highest order as it seemed like it took forever for Maverick & Carys to let those sparks to fully ignite, and when they did, they lit the sheets on FIRE! But I think my favorite thing about this story was the secondaries, as they were so colorful, especially Jules, that I stayed laughing cover to cover, until my stomach muscles were screaming in protest. There was an f-bombs worthy twist thrown in, the I definitely LOVED feeling the history of The French Quarter throughout the pages. This was a fantastic story that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Blue Bayou is Maverick and Carys story. Maverick is struggling with his father and the ethics behind the work they do. So he takes a vacation to escape. Carys is struggling and stressing about keeping the Blue Bayou afloat the only thing of her family she has left. They meet by chance and there's instant chemistry. Maverick wants to help her, but she's a little cautious. But then their Journey Begins and it's a beautiful story. I love Maverick he's so charming and sweet. Carys she's beautiful inside and out. All the secondary characters were awesome. I want to know more about the broody Shaw. He most definitely caught my attention. Also hoping Shep, Cece, and Jules get their own stories. I definitely recommend Blue Bayou. It's a great read.
I recieved a Advanced Readers Copy and I'm leaving a Voluntary Review
Once I realized this book was set in my all time favorite city of New Orleans, it easily sucked me in. This was a sweet story of two lost people trying to navigate their way in life. Carys was a hot mess that was much stronger than she gave herself credit for. Maverick was a man with a heart of gold trying to break free of his tyrant father. The two of them together help each other to be their best selves. Enjoyed this Jiffy Kate story.
I enjoyed this taste of love "on the bayou." It reminded me pleasantly of time spent in New Orleans. The setting aside, the story didn't draw me in as much as I would have liked. The heroine is a hot mess (by her own admission). I had trouble sympathising with her and didn't like that the hero had to "save her" from her own lack of competence. There was real chemistry between the hero and heroine but it got buried in the constant observations of how hot they were. I'd much rather feel the heat than be told about it. The conflict between the hero and heroine was so obvious I felt slapped over the head with it from the beginning and wished heartily for a more subtle plot. The HEA was satisfying, but overall the story left me lukewarm.
This was a good read. Maverick hates working for his dad. He is visiting New Orleans and meets Carys. They hit it off right away and things are going great. Until she sees something and gets mad. Of course it's not what she thinks and things get messy. Thankfully in the end it all works out and they get their happy ending.
Another Jiffy Kate book full of southern roots - I adore the characters they write, they are flawed, yet kind and well-rounded. The stand out character to me in this book wasn't even the main characters - it was Jules, the part time Blue Bayou employee! He stole this book for me! I need a Jules in my life!
Maverick and Carys are strangers who had an immediate connection - he's running from the life he's been forced to live and she's running herself ragged with the hotel she inherited. It's a beautiful story of chance meetings, homemade macrons, and allowing yourself to be open to love - just in case it walks in the door.
First time for this author team with the title and the story drawing me into it. I do so love reading those that are in NOLA thanks to the magic and the history. In this Maverick takes us there after being fed up. Thank goodness he did because we then meet Carys and then we go from there with their story. You see the chemistry also slowly build as they interact. You also though have a sneaking suspicion that as events begin to occur you have to see if you are right. The characters that are in here are entertaining with you enjoying the day to day. When things go south you have to see it through to see where it all goes from there.
