‘One person on their own may be able to save the world. But a team of friends, all working together, have a much greater chance of succeeding…providing that no-one succumbs to evil.’

There are three things about me that you should know by now. The first…that I prefer to be called Alex. The second…that I can control the element of water. The third…that I have nearly committed manslaughter…twice. Go me!

Since becoming a full-time student at Vladimir’s academy for gifted students - students who aren’t necessarily gifted in terms of academia (although most of them do have a brain) Alex has had a lot to cope with. This long list includes: boys, bullies and beasts. Now, on top of these reoccurring problems, Alex is about to encounter even more drama. Her enemy has a deadly advantage. It is an advantage that will spell disastrous consequences for all. It is an advantage that will consume Alex whole. It is an advantage that will involve a particular power – the power of ‘POSSESSION’...

DIVE INTO A WORLD FULL OF FRIENDSHIP, DANGER, LOVE AND BETRAYAL...

Adele Rose lives in the UK.

Technically, she is an adult. However, Adele likes to think that she is a child who is refusing to grow-up and always loves writing fiction in her “free-time.”

Adele Rose writes books that she loves to read. Bring on fantasy worlds and tyrannical leadership. She's got her frying pan at the ready!

Her interests outside of writing include Music (she sings, plays the flute and attempts to play the piano), watching TV (she has an unhealthy obsession - Die Hard is a Christmas movie!) and exploring nature with her husband and children.

Adele holds her family at the centre of all she does and would love to meet as many readers as possible.

Do hell with the books where the MC wins the battle and effortlessly saves the world only because he/she has to; where the protagonist is thoroughly predictable and born with the tag ‘the chosen one’. It's about time to break the cliche plot. I have been waiting for stories where the main character is dull in the beginning, a commoner, a no-one in the nearby locality and grows up slowly, taking one step at a time carrying this aim to prove worthwhile and finally become the star of the show. This story, Possession lives up to the expectation, the hype created in the first book of the series. The author of the story is not in a hurry to make her protagonist Alexandra Raven all strong and powerful. While in the first book Alex is confused and struggles with her needs as a teenager, in Possession, she wholeheartedly manages to suck up the reality that due to this connection (author is very particular to not to reveal what this connection really is) she has to stop Mortimer’s intentions to avenge his previous defeat.

With Vladimir determination and Hecate’s support, Alex sets out to learn and master her gifted powers. She faces numerous struggles in the process. Besides Mortimer, her personal life is a mess. The one person she fancies, Raphael is not acting himself. He is rude and in a verge of making Alex jealous by going out with Vanessa. She is having these dreams, extremely haunting and filled with grisly details enough to have gooseflesh all over a reader’s skin.

Unlike Awakening, in this sequel, there is depth in the story. Each and every professor has a backstory, that somehow, may or may not be related to Alex. Author has made sure that all the characters are having a purpose to really exist in the story. One such professor is Hecate. She has a dark past that is believed to have happened, but Vladimir is the one to believe otherwise. I, as a reader, wanted to know more about what might have actually happened to her but unfortunately, the author is hinting there that is carried a big revelation and the readers have to wait.

Another plot hole or I might as well call its cliffhanger, is that the theory behind Raphael’s mysterious behavior? Why has Alex not been trying to find out what is actually bothering him? It is understandable that she has her own problem, but as a reader I want to have a glimpse, a reason for why he is behaving as such, or why Mortimer is after him.

The last few chapters are the heart and soul of the story. In the first book we were made aware that Alex is also suffering from an alternate personality, but in this sequel, we actually come to know why this book is named “Possession”. Her so-called connection with Mortimer is perhaps far more than just being controlled by him. Alexandra Raven is, after all, not just a pretty-looking, boyfriend-seeking, idealistic protagonist. She is something indescribably more.

There are many more questions raised that are needed to be answered (For instance, why the author has specifically introduced Vladimir’s father). This is one such author that likes to keep her readers guessing and leaves a meaningful cliffhanger where one wants to come back and read the sequel. I am thoroughly enjoying this journey of Alexandra Raven and I can't wait for “Shattered” to be released.
