I can see why this novel series keeps topping the Japanese sales sale charts. I rarely read two books in the same series in a row, I tend to feel like I have to take a break with another book or two before continuing with a series. Yet with this one, I jumped straight to the second book and would have picked up the third one if it had been translated. So please Bookwalker, hurry up!
I think there’s one moment in each volume that will hype you up no matter what. This volume’s big moment for me was the battle between ai hinatsuru and ai yashajin. It works well since you get both of their training arcs across this vol. 2 and vol. 1 and you get to compare each of their strengths. Ai yashajin’s training arc was also fun becsuse the seedy underbelly of underground shogi reminded me a bit of watching Kaiji with its gambling aspect.
Fun volume overall, looking forward to the next one.
