With a sense of humor and creative abandon, renowned mixed-media artist Beryl Taylor shows you how surprisingly easy it is to turn fabric, stitch, and embellishment into artistic treasures to keep and share. Using her own art as examples, Beryl gives step-by-step instructions for making projects like greeting cards, wall hangings, and books using the latest mixed-media techniques, all the while encouraging readers to follow their own instincts and experiment. In Mixed-Media Explorations you'll learn how apply basic design principles like layering, highlighting motifs, and creating grids to give your art depth and meaning; use six simple embroidery stitches to add interest and texture; turn favorite papers into fabrics that can then be stitched or quilted; "age" your art by etching, burning, and tearing; create richness with metallic threads, paint, and rub-ons; "embed" fibers and found objects; use everyday items like brown grocery bags, wallpaper scraps, and bleach to create texture; stitch through metal.
I enjoyed reading this book I would not do a lot of the art she did but I did like the way she did some of the steps in her art. I felt that I would be able to use some of her ideas with my card making. The pictures are very nice to look at, so that makes is a plus. Good ideas to use and interesting how she got to the place she got in her art. Well worth a look or two. I could find a spot on my bookshelf for this book to use as a reference again and again.
Interesting and Inspiring book for anyone remotely interested in Mixed Media art. Although mostly with fabric or paper-fabric fusions it provides many great ideas which could springboard to other things. (Particularly love the paper corset!)
This book stands out as one of the top books I return to again and again for wonderful ideas in mixed media. The "eye candy" here is just the yummiest... most all the projects are very doable. Love love love this one!
Her work is simply stunning! The things she can do with fabric, candy wrappers, tissue paper, buttons, thread and a sewing machine are just beautiful. Very inspiring read and I will be trying some of her techniques.
