Rocky Mountain Saint #6

Pathfinder Peril

Rate this book
If the man of the mountains, Tate Saint, had a fault, it was that he had a hard time saying no whenever someone needed his help. But now he has a family and the wilderness makes many demands on anyone that tries to master the mountains. And if a redheaded Irish wife, a curios toddler for a son, a wolf for a hunting companion and a bear cub for a playmate for his son wasn't enough, a legendary mountain man, Old Bill Williams, recruits him to help John C. Fremont on his expedition to find a route through the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan mountains in the middle of winter. When the elder statesman of the mountains, Williams, tells Fremont it can't be done, the Pathfinder expects Tate Saint to get them through. But this venture soon becomes one of the most treacherous and deadly expeditions of the times. Facing the full onslaught of a Rocky Mountain winter with twenty-foot snowdrifts, below zero temperatures, and every other hazard that could be brought to bear, the challenges must be met and conquered. But the things that must be done and the sacrifices that must be made become more than anyone expected or wants to remember. One of the greatest challenges of the young mountain man's life must be met and conquered, or he and many others will die.

I have been fortunate enough to read all the books of the Rocky Mountain Saint, and as usual, this one I superb, as well as the previous five. There is very little time between each excursion in this one, so set aside any other jobs demanding you attention, as the many trials and tribulations will demand your immediate attention. There is some heartbreaking episodes, but romance, camaraderie, and the desire to live is instilled throughout it all. I was definitely touched, and, at times mesmerized, by the author's apparent knowledge of his descriptive subject matter. Very touching!

What can I say, except, as always, five stars and more! This is one of the most heartwarming adventures I have ever had the opportunity to follow, and the story is so compelling that I could not put it aside until I competed it in detail.
There had to be many hours of research before penning the first word, as there are so many adventures, and misadventures, that Mr. Rundell had to spend many restless hours before he could compile a masterpiece of this magnitude.
The characters were perfectly selected and those who played the bad guys effectively initiated their actions appropriately. There is more sadness involved this time around, but the ending will certainly provide family-friendly entertainment for you to want Book Seven, when it will be released in November/2018.
Most definitely recommend this book, and series to all readers seeking excitement and a lot of dramatic experiences! I have never read a bad release by Mr. Rundell and this series is unsurpassed in action, romance and never ending adventures of somewhat true to life daily episodes!

Pathfinder Peril

It tis' nary but twenty quick words to be found here, nor anywhere, at the ending of any of B.N.'s books to describe said book!

Like this one or any of the other previously written, five books, has these stories been easily set aside..

Each have their lives based around the singular motions of one mountain man, and that which he endeavours to help those who seek his help in order to survive their ordeals, and push their lives onto the next stage!

They need Tatum Saint!
Tate Saint does not need them!
Yet he is bound by the creed of "The Good Mountain Man" to do his Best!
To perform his Best, to help them, through their perilous Journies, each time "Raising the Bar, just another notch higher!"

Thank you,
Thank you, the Rocky Mountain Saint!

I loved the story of the characters were believable. I didn’t like that he left his family to go on this wild trip that left people dead. I was going to rate it a 4 but I started at the first star and it wouldn’t let me go an farther. I couldn’t correct it so I’m very sorry. I did NOT want to rTe one Atari wanted to give the book a 4 star rating. Thank you for Torrington this book I really enjoyed reading it. I have read a lot of your books. Linda Mitchell

Another great book

It was very interesting to read about snow, blizzard, and cold. I lived in the Chicago area to understand what they mean. The story hinted about starvation and some cannibalism for desperate men without the gory details. The book is interesting more than 75 percent in snow, cold, hunger, and stubborn leader that sacrificed his men out of ignorance and stubbornness.

I’ve now read the 1st five books in this series. Three have been good, one was marginal, and this one was the worst of the bunch. Long winded, ‘cutesy’, and lame sum it up nicely. Here’s a summary: snow, marching through the snow, climbing in the snow, more marching in the snow, falling down in the snow, frozen body parts, more snow, new babies, etc.
I think I may be done with these books.

This story was a good read. The saint crew gained another, and the adventure of the head of the clan almost lost him. A great series and look foreward to more of the same.

Good story

I'm reading all of this series because they are well written. You don't add an M-1 Garand to the story, but stay period correct. What would M-1s , carbines, and Thompsons do back in 1850?

Weaker than the other books. It's like the author had some facts from real expeditions and had to fit them into the narrative for this story.

Another excellent addition to this series. This book is disturbing because of the fierce journey in the mountains during winter.
